Hi
I accidentally did a system update on my razr that was given by verizon. Titanium backup is forcefully closed when I open it. But, superuser does not. It is open-able. I would like to re-root my device. Should I unroot it first and then root it again because apps like superuser are still present and open-able? Or is rooting just fine even if there seems to be some kind of problem with the root apps.
In general, is it fine to reroot though the device is already rooted? (I guess this is the general question.)
Yes, it's fine to re-root - in fact, you can't unroot without first rooting again, because the files you need to remove are now protected like all the other system files.
Use the new motofail exploit.

I have read though all topics for Prime and found that there is no way at the moment to root ICS .21 without unlocking bootloader. I have an idea below Is it possible or not guru?
Anyone who has installed and done backup root by using OTARootkeeper, pls locate its backup data (.zip or xml or whatsoever) then send to users who already upgraded to .21 to restore it. It maybe restores a root.
If you are able to locate and have backup file for OTARootkeeper pls send it to me I will give it a try and report.

I think the same way I previously wrote on this subject.

Hi all,
Prime Transformer using Asus for a month. Detail the issues which the forum for a while and looked, I tried some of the root methods. Authorities, however, and 9.4.2.21 update lost. I am writing this message I can think of something to consult.
Pending the development of a new method, like helping a friend with OTA Root Keeper backups can tell us where can we solve this problem?
For example, you share with us to take backups of AppBackup Rootkeeper OTA with the application?
Best regards from Türkiye.

No, it's not possible. If you think about this for a moment, if this were possible, it would be a most trivial way of distributing a root exploit - and would already be common knowledge.
Without root, only certain well controlled files can be executed. It's not possible to add files to this set on any device which is not rooted unless there is an alternative way of accessing the internal file system (bootloader, flash from PC or recovery mode).
OTA rootkeeper relies on being able to _use_ a backup copy of the files needed to gain root priviledges - this file must already be present on the device in the right place. You should change the title of your thread to clarify that it's not useful...
Hi, im on FW21, stock, rooted. i accidentally removed the asus reader app, ive tried extracting it from a few custom rom zips but it just says "not installed" ive tried copying back to /system/app along with the odex file but still wont work.
can anyone help? thanks
Only surefire way i know of is to reinstall everything...
Back up your info
Use wolf's guide to downgrade to .15
wipe data / reinstall .15
re root
ota rootkeeper
ota to .21
i had the same problem when i was .15 and wanted to upgrade.
what i did was i got the offical blob file from the asus website.
then i googled around on how to extract files from it.
i was then able to get my .apk and .odex file which i just placed in system/app using adb
reboot and all was fine.
Thanks guys, downgrading and n upgrading did it. I'll just rename them.in future to disable

If you have safestrap go into the app, select the uninstall feature and re try the install. No need to download anyones utility or no need to factory reset.
do you happen to know the download path of the ota? Due to safestrap mine failed.. hate to download it again..
Should be in setting/ about phone/ updates
yeah thats to download it again.. i was hoping it would just install it if the system saw the file there. oh well at 55% i can wait a little longer..
After the phone reboots, if the install takes really really slow then ur on the right path
What if I have installed BootStrap recovery????

Arrgh i swear i did.. While i was doing tb backups it slipped my mine i reckon.. really wish i could find the dl path for the update... hopefully third time will work!
Whether uninstalling the "Razr BootStrap" using "Managa Applications" is enough... Or I have to do some extra steps too????
Please help me... I don't care much about root, as the update usually unroots it and I can root again easily...
Bootstrap may be a dif problem. Like i said i used safestrap. I dunno what else you have done to urvphone. You might need the dev team to help you. I never used roms so i was stock i also never froze any bloatware.
Ummm. You're welcome....

I think i thanked you last night lol.
arrgh 3rd time failed no bloat removed just stock rooted.. temp unrooted safestrap uninstalled.. any ideas? guess i might need to restore back to stock..
Sounds like you have something breaking the install. I know ive done very little to my phone. Factory reset may be your option but i would get hold of a tech here b4 u do anything

You need to first uninstall the razr bootstrap app through "manage apps" (look under the all apps tab - clear data first while you're there).
Then, with root explorer or such, go to the /system/bin folder, mount r/w, and delete the following files:
hijack
logwrapper
Then, rename logwrapper.bin to simply logwrapper (just remove the .bin)...
Reboot, and it should be all cleaned out.
I would also recommend using voodoo ota rootkeeper to backup your root, then temporarily un-root (hide root) before doing the OTA install.
If you still get ota install errors, then you probably removed some system apps that are verified before installation... check /cache/recovery/last_log for errors.. then either replace those apk/odex files, or flash the fxz..

Thanks so much for the info. That logwrapper file was withholding me from updating.
I tried deleting and renaming the files with no success updating. I eventually just ended up doing a factory wipe and using Matt's Utility and flashing back to stock. It was a little frustrating, but the Verizon backup utility combined with Google services saved me. I guess i need to learn how to use Titanium backups. lol
this thread should be titled "How I got my Safestrapped RAZR to install ICS OTA successfully", as your issue was more to do with safestrap then specifically just being rooted.
I searched the forum but was not able to find this answer. Is there an .apk that can be renamed once rooted that will prevent OTAs from being downloaded?
I came from a Droid X and this is something that we had to do when we were rooted. On Verizon-Samsung devices.... does the OTA auto download and install? or do you have to accept it?
If you have Titanium Backup , you can just freeze "AT&T Software update" if I'm not mistaken that would do it.
That didn't work for me, at least on sprint. What DID work was letting it try to update and once it fails, it doesn't reappear for a long time (assuming you're on a custom recovery).

I'd like to know this as well...
I guess the biggest concern I have is being able to decline the OTA. Is this possible? I have rooted, loaded CWM, and I have removed some system .apk files that I had no use for (i backed them up to sdcard though).
If the OTA is automatically accepted... it would fail due to CWM, correct?
