Do you get really annoying glitches with SwiftKey when you use Chrome?
Basically, when I'm typing something into a form, like just Googling something, I get these insane errors/predictions that I can only describe as repeated parts of words.
Example: if I'm trying to type "Plainfield public works" and I delete a letter or something, all of a sudden I have like "plaplaiplaiplaiplaiplaiplai" as a suggestion, and when I try to delete parts of it, it gets even LONGER of a word. Then when I delete the word, it always deletes more than just that stupid word so my whole sentence is messed up. I always have to switch back to HTC keyboard when using Google Chrome which stinks.
Again, this ONLY happens with Chrome, so it isn't a SwiftKey thing in general. I just typed all of this with no issues. I'll try to grab a screen shot of this issue...
Edit: I tried to type "this is so annoying" and didn't even try to backspace anything. This is what I got:

Ooooooh Man you get this to! I get it almost everytime and never thought to switch keyboards as I always just switch to the stock browser but I do indeed have that same exact issue.
Suuuuuuuuuuper annoying.

Yeah it drives me nuts. I love SwiftKey, and I love Chrome, so I hate choosing between the two. It's like choosing between Mountain Dew and Dr. Pepper...
I guess I love Chrome more because I've never considered using the stock browser. Since ICS makes switching keyboards so quick and easy, I just do that. I don't understand how a keyboard has issues with only one app though... This is way above my head. Would I report the bug to SwiftKey or Google?

Getting them here too. Annoying, I say.
It's the very reason I un installed chrome today.. Too much bull crap to worry about. Stock browser is just fine.

Yeah I get this too, if I had to guess it has something to do with the instant search feature used by Google conflicting with the prediction of SwiftKey.
Try turning off instant search with Google and see if that helps.

Haha what other bullcrap is there, if I may ask? I freaking love Chrome, personally!
Question to those who use stock browser: does SwiftKey still do this when typing in Google, or no? That would explain whether Google Instant is involved.

It's a known issue with Swiftkey, they are working on a fix.

Thanks for the idea! I never thought about that, but it makes sense that those two things would be fighting one another. Since it appears to work on the stock browser when Googling, it must be app related. I'm not sure how to turn off instant search though. I'm actually not even sure it uses instant search...

This is great news, I searched the SwiftKey forum and didn't find anything about this. It seems most threads about a repeated word glitch say it was already solved, and it most certainly hasn't been!

I use Thumb Keyboard and while I didn't have this exact problem it definitely didn't work right with chrome. I kept getting kicked out of the field I was typing in or suddenly my cursor would move to the middle of the sentence, etc. I spent 20 minutes trying to finish 3 sentences before giving up.

not saying Chrome is bull crap per say but the situation is bull crap and i dont see the need to deal with it in chrome when i can just use the stock browser.

I use Swype (the beta release) and I get this problem with chrome too. So it's probably not swiftkey's fault, might be a problem with chrome?

Now that is very interesting... how can SwiftKey offer a fix if the problem isn't on their end?? Or, coincidentally, both keyboards happen to have made the same mistake in their code or whatever. Weird.
Yeah I've had this back even with the 3D, hated the issue because I love both products. So what I do is keep a stock ICS keyboard installed and then upon launching Chrome, Tasker brings up the list of keyboards and I select it. A bit of an annoyance? Yes, but both of the apps are too useful to be without.
(Also, if you're wondering why I don't just have Tasker automatically switch the keyboards, its because it can't :/ It's a security feature within Android that prevents "malicious applications from switching the user to their own IME". More info here. Kind of a shame but I do understand why it was implemented.
Hopefully either Swiftkey or Chrome get it resolved, wherever the issue lies.
I get that bug occasionally, as well as the keyboard not responding at all. It comes up, i hit keys and they light up as if i hit them but they don't get inserted, basically the whole input service locks up as i can't even switch keyboards. None of the other replacement keyboards i've used do this.
Yeah, this is a constant issue and forced me to switch back to stock keyboard.

Now that we have our first ICS ROM, lets talk about what we like and dont like about the newest Android OS. I dont know about everyone else, but I have never touched Android 4.0 before our latest CM9 ROM. I have only seen videos on it. So my eagerness to play with it was very high. Now that I have it, I must say, overall, its really nice. I love the UI. Even the phone and contacts app, which I didnt even care about in Gingerbread. The Speech to Text is pretty cool. And when I get a phone call, it looks much better than GB.
So what else is there? Anyone find any cool stuff specific to ICS? Any cool ICS apps? Nifty little tips and tricks?

Have you noticed that the LED turns color when plugged in based on the battery percentage? Dont know if this is an ICS or CM9 feature. I like it but I kinda wish it would turn of when fully charged though.

So thats what the yellowish green light was indicating. Light is green @ 100%. Awesome!
I am really happy with the build, as I have only tested ICS on the Kindle Fire and other more fortunate phones. My app set though is so specific that the layout looks exactly the same regardless of android version. Thats fine, I just wanted my purchase to be worthwhile

No, it doesnt turn off for me. Stays on until you unplug the phone. I tried using LEDs Hack to turn the light off for when I go to sleep. It works but when I turn it back on, my lights on the buttons stay lit. I need to restart to turn them off.
I only ran it for weekend, but as others have pointed out, the speed and accuracy of the speech to text is impressive. Apex, while not native, is also a really nice addition in the launcher category. I really hope to see it reach the level of "daily driver" so I can mess with it more.
I don't know if you listen to a lot of music but try that Apollo music player I posted in the cm9 thread really nice ICS look and from what I read its what they have been putting in the "official" CM9

Agrees and in all honesty I don't see why they don't...maybe the thought is if they are going to offer it as a free service(not the purchases but the upload and storage) then they have a right to control how you use it...not that I agree but I assume that's the thought process

The stock messaging app lacks LED customization but is elegant and practical. I say the same about the contacts (People) app.
ICS Browser + is a really cool alternate browser that has some nice features. Id suggest it to anyone looking for a new browser.
Boid is a Twitter app optimized for ICS that features some very stylish layouts, navigation speed and simplicity making its ease of access level very high. Its Beta-ness shows in its lack of push notifications and semi frequent failure to retrieve new mentions and tweets.

Unfortunately, you guys don't have Chrome yet. But I love chrome. It is awesome on a tablet. It is like using a PC... And pretty good on a phone too. The best feature is to send tabs from PC to phone or browse open tabs on PC!!!
I like the launcher in general, nice little touches here and there... The nicer recent apps layout. The better and cooler looking lock screen and incoming phone call screen. iPhone, you can kiss my sweet ass! Awesomer Email app... For some reason, the Email app in GB had no search feature (what!? ) and was dark themed, while Gmail had both search and light themed... Nice to see consistency and a easier on the eyes theme...
OH! How did I forget! The Gmail and Email widgets! I LOVE them! I use them all the time and they are effing scrollable!! Lock screen music controls are more awesome than GB (I use Google Music)... The circlemod battery icon (I dunno if your CM9 has it) is very cool! Folders are nice too...
Overall, it is awesome as an OS! Best version of Android, so far!

Today, April 12th, 2013, Facebook Home was released into the play store for public use on a select few devices. However, many people are skeptical are wondering if this is going to be a worthwhile app to use to replace their home screen, and I’ll let you know right now.
The Good
- Interface: When scrolling through the pages and different pictures, the experience you get while using it is very good. If you’re looking for buttery smooth performance, this may be for you
- Chat Heads: Chat Heads are little bubbles that pop up whenever you receive a message (or SMS assuming you set it up in settings) through your Messenger app. You can move it all around your screen and they pop up no matter what screen you’re in. You can stack your messages together, or throw them all away. As well when you do click on the chat head, it comes up in a nice little pop up so you don’t have to leave the app you’re in. And of course, if you’re into emojis, facebook has most of them and they will pop up on your friends iPhone or your normal GO SMS/SMS app that also has the emoji codec.
The Bad
- No Dedicated Camera Button: You would think with Facebook relying very heavily on pictures it’d have a dedicated camera button in the corner of the screen or something, but no. You actually have to swipe up, go into apps, swipe right, then scroll and find the camera button and move it into your shortcuts. Kind of an annoying and unnecessary hassle.
- Better Search: So far, Facebook Home makes you have to keep scrolling and scrolling an endless amount of times until you may find content you are actually interested in. To find your friends you must go into the actually Facebook app itself to view specific people if you can find them on Facebook Home.
- More Features: I’m not too huge of a Facebook user. I reply more on Twitter, Google +, and Instagram. While the first two social networks are understandable not to have in Facebook Home, it’d be nice (since Facebook bought out Instagram) if you could make Facebook Home show your Instagram feed instead of your Facebook feed after going into the settings.
- Support: If you watched the event, Mark Zuckerberg mentioned he wanted this to be something everyone, on any phone, can use. But at the moment it’s only supported on the Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3, HTC One, One X, or One X +.
Final Verdict
While Facebook Home does a couple things right, it really needs to work on things still. At the moment, it’s more a beta than anything else. Hopefully in the coming months when Facebook does its scheduled updates, it’ll add more functionality and phone support so more people can actually use it. If you're really big on Facebook this is gonna be fore you. If you use Facebook to connect with a few people and the rest is a bunch of people you don't really care about then at the moment I'd probably steer towards sticking stock or using something like Nova or Action launcher Pro.
I tried this today.... i honestly felt it was a joke. That's my personal opinion. :/

Man i feel your pain , couldn't believe the trouble i was having with the HTC ONES Keyboard also , i really wanted to kee a complete stock look , but i just couldn't take it anymore , so i just downloaded swype from the playstore i've acyually been using it for quite awhile now , on my s3 , and man what a difference , i would highly reccomend it SWYPE , it used to be free now its 1 dollar .................
I have always liked SwiftKey keyboard. Now it has flow built in so you can swype or text. This keyboard allows you to type with a lot of mistakes and it does a really good job fixing it. The swype keyboard in the play store works really well for swyping but typing normal on it doesn't work near as good. Depends on how you like to text more. I switch between both of them all the time.

The htc keyboard is a ****.
i've been using my HTC One for over a month now.
it's great, but the keyboard shows with an increasing delay.
currently when i try to type something, it takes 1-2 seconds for the keyboard to show.
everything else is fast and responsive.
is it because it's loading some dictionary on every show?
is there a way to reset it ?
I haven't had that issue at all. Very fast for me. What see you trying to use it in? Was there a specific app this happens in?

The keyboard is not as good as the real Swype. It doesn't detect when your swiping is unintentionally off target. I had to download the real Swype keyboard to get comfortable again.

That stinks. I haven't had it for more than a month yet. I hope this doesn't happen to me.
Hope you don't have to reset either!

What I mean is, the stock keyboard also allows typing by simply sliding a finger from the first letter of a word to its last letter, just like Swype. But the stock keyboard is not as good in predicting the word you intend to type.

You could try the Swype off the Play Store, I believe it's on sale for $1.
Or swiftkey, both are great

So, this is day #2 using my sgs5 and I can't count how many times I clicked on the new "recent" button, hoping a menu will show up, just to return to the app and press again a long click. is very annoying!
Is there any app that can re-map that key? And change the long-press home button as it was before, showing "recent".
I'm rooted.
Thanks.

On the custom ROMs I have been using, by default if you long press the menu button, guess what, the menu button displays the menu
If you used the menu mainly to access the settings menu like I did, I just use the toolbox with the settings shortcut in it, and put it down in the button left corner. That way it's near the a same place as the menu key was and I can quickly access the settings menu. Just a thought that May help you.
No thanks! I Much prefer the recent apps button.

If you rooted your phone you can uze Xposed/Gravitybox to remap the hardware keys back to what they used to be. Works much better that way IMHO.

Did you try long pressing the menu button. At least with the Nova Prime launcher I prefer, it works as the old method and no remapping needed. This way you have best of both worlds. Short press recent apps and long press menu settings etc. Anyway, for me simple is best. This doesn't require anything on your part.
Yea kinda lazy. At first I hated menu leaving but now getting used to it. Just get used to it holding on to recent will do what you wanted.

Gravity box works great to change long-press actions. If it can change single-press actions also, then I haven't figured out how to do that yet.
To change single-press actions, I use Xposed Additions:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.spazedog.xposed.additionsgb
I use it on my S4 to do the opposite of what the OP wants.
It drives me nuts that half the new apps out there no longer use the "menu" button properly anymore. And so I've set my "menu" button to behave exactly as the S5.
I also use it to completely disable the home button while the screen is off. It was driving me nuts that the screen turned on every time I wiped my screen with a damp towel, because I'd accidentally touch the home button.
Thanks CZ Eddie,
I was about to try xposed but in other posts I've seen that this breaks some other functionality in the s5. I thought to wait a bit longer to make sure everything is sorted out with maybe an xposed update
How is your S health and private mode? Still working?

Dud you ever figure out what to do with this request? Did changing the settings mess other things up like you thought they would? As soon as I get an s5, this has to be the first thing I do. Really don't care for the events button as the primary.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

Did you have any issues with it breaking any other functionality? That's the main concern. Thanks.

Thanks - and this should be same procedure for the Verizon S5, right? I'm still trying to decide whether I want to upgrade from my Nexus, and this is one of the biggest things I need to work out before I commit. Thanks so much for your reply. If you do notice something screwy, please post back.

One last question about this (and only because I don't know how the button is actually physically built).
I'll still be dealing with the same recent apps visual display, right? I mean the button display won't automatically switch from the 2-box looking icon to the 3/4 lines/dots that represents menu?
I fully expect not, but just wasn't sure what magic causes that button to work.
Thanks.
No its not onscreen buttons it just changes your current action on the recents button u already have to menu so when u press that recents button it will actually be the menu button now.

Only issue on VERIZON is there is no root access yet. Unless you have the DEV edition.
