I didnt see anything regarding this and i have been searching and searching how to get this done. Some might say turning 4g off on this phone ruins it. Personally I only use 4G when i need it. Otherwise i want to be on 3G to save battery and data usage.

Once app is installed, open app.

-For 4g select LTE/cdma/EvDo
(Doing this from phone so please let me know if link doesnt work)

I searched and i asked a couple times in the forum with no answers or guidance to answers. So if the other options work for you then by all means go for it. This app is very much like the lte onoff i was using on my tbolt so im familiar with the process. Easy and simply IMO. Hope it helps anyone else that may have been looking for this option.

in the whole XDA network there is nobody knowing anything about a simple an efficient way to title between 3g 4g IN i530? The way discribed on first post kind of leashes...

btw it doesn't support 4G/LTE as far as I remember.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think there is yet a widget that will toggle LTE on and off with one click. I'm not asking for one, I'm curious about what makes this difficult to do. I'm sure if it were a simple thing someone would have done it already.
There is one already. Don't know where it's at.

I was wondering this too. Is there some limitation to it? Did htc not include an api to switch 4G on and off? I believe there's WIMAX 4G widgets and tasker can turn WIMAX 4G on and off, what's different about LTE? The fact that WIMAX is a wifi standard while LTE is is GSM and verizon 3G is cdma?

No they did not because there is no reason to.
Sprint uses 4G more like a hotspot. You enable it, it searches for a 4G signal then connects you to one. If it doesn't find one it gets re disabled.
On our phones, the phone is constantly searching for a 4G signal so when you go to a 3G zone from 4G it automatically switches. I understand you guys are probably worried about battery life which does take a hit from using this in that case you are kind of SOL until someone finds something.
Set your phone to CDMA Auto (PRL) seems to use less battery, and connects to LTE when available with no issues. Found that tip here in one of the forum posts. I'm rooted, but still running stock. Waiting for Inherits from Chingy.

I'm working on a widget for it. I found the file/java class it calls to you when switch between lte/auto (inside settings.apk after you decompile it). Just need to code a simple widget interface button for it and toggle between LTE and EVDO. I have finals this week, but at worse, I'll have time this weekend.
I've never made a widget before, but it gives me a chance to learn by making one that's useful. Learn by experience is the best kind of learning imho

I am always on wifi so I don't need LTE, 4G, HSPA or 3G.... is there any way I can force 2G or edge only on an AT&T locked Galaxy Note i717? I've looked all over the forums and people say go into the menu and select that option, but it doesn't work. Same with apps, don't work. I've read flashing a different modem will enable that option to work, but won't I need an unlocked phone to do so?

Well like I said I'm on wifi all day and don't need LTE killing my battery for no reason. And, so I can still send or receive pictures.
LTE/Data is automatically disabled when you connect to wifi. No need to do anything. It will turn itself on automatically to receive/send mms.

That is Apple's "innovation" for you right there. This is Android. Android turns off cellular data when on wifi and only turns it on when needed for MMS.
You notice how when on wifi you don't see a 4g icon? Send an mms and you will see it pop up long enough for the message to be sent and then disappear.
That is your phone automatically enabling/disabling cellular data when needed/not needed.
Ok, well to get this back on track I'd like to force 2G or even 3G no matter what. Any solution for me?

Nope. Even on wifi, say If you're sending or receiving MMS it will use your data (4G or LTE). Also, unless you have it turned on while the phone is asleep, your phone will switch back to 4G for downloading or synchronize data. 2G takes longer to download information because of he slower speed which causes the phone to drain battery because the phone would still be downloading the data.

Question for the CDMA Verizon Wireless RAZR/Maxx
I side loaded the 211 ICS build just yesterday. Can anyone confirm if the official ota release to public today is the same build as 211? Or did they change anything?
And also does anybody know how to change to the 3G cdma only option? I've tried a few apps at the play store. While they did let me select a cdma only option, it wasn't showing as 3G but showing 1x?

My main reason for wanting just 3G was my cap data plan. I don't have Internet at home and being on 4G LTE kills data faster. Not too concerned about my battery life, I have a RAZR Maxx lol but 3G does make it better and my 3G speeds are not bad at all. Thanks again! Really appreciate it!

4G allows you to do both.

The modem is restricted so you can't change the bands. It's set to switch to the best signal.
The idea of using 2G to save battery consumption is a wives tale. There isn't any difference anymore.
I would hope that's the only reason to want to switch to 2G!
But yeah, with current technology 3G/4G is no longer a battery killer like it once was. Especially on our state of the art awesome Galaxy Notes!
I do not agree with this entirely, because at college I only get 2g all the time! ANd my battery never gets below 75% when I am home it bounces from 3g/4g and even sometimes to 2g I live in a weird area lol...And my battery gets down to 30-35% when I am home doing the same things.....
The modem in the phone is on or off, and it doesn't downshift if it has to run on a lower band. It's like a light bulb -- on or off.
Don't take my word for it, google the topic and you can read what the engineers say.
You can't do the same things with 2G and 4G networks (at least not without pulling your hair out).
I must disagree with you, 2G and 4G switch is available in international GNote. So there is a way to swtch it. And if i am in zone of low 3/4G signal zone, it always switch to 2-3-4 G, so it also make the battery drain faster. In HOX AT&T there is a command you can dial some code and get into menu for switching Bands. There should be somthing like this in Note also.
There is a dial code for this modem but it is a restricted menu. You can't make a selection on it.
