Want to do a major SDcard clean up - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I want to get rid off as many folders and files that I can, from the Internal SDcard, without damaging my device.
How can I know which folders and files can I delete? Would it help if I screen shot my SDcard folders and files and upload the photos here?
Thanks

Just format via CWM...

I know but I've open it in the wrong fourm.
I don't want to delete every thing! I just want to the delete all the junk and unnecessary folders... This way I said that I can upload screenshots of my SDcard so you could tell me which ones I can get rid off.

Make backup of your personal data, backup of apps data that you are using in titanium backup for example (and copy it to pc...). format your card. Restore it. Should be good, huh?

[Q] SD card

Hello, i have a question about the sd card of my x10. Its almost full with apps i dont use anymore and other stuf. I want go to a other rom but can i delete all thinks from my sd card? So what can I delete and what not.
(ps. sorry if my english is bad.)
I will ask the same question....
So many files and dont now ho to delete safely
If a folder reffers to an app u've uninstalled then its safe to delete it. Game files will be redownloaded but might be best to backup your save game files if you are likely to install it again. Most things you can delete worst is you'll lose app settings/game progress. Just back everything up just in case.

Yes, if you want to go to a new ROM, and not save any apps, its alright to even format it..
(but you probably want to save the photos you've taken, as well as the music stored on it. or am i wrong?)

[Q] ok guys a little help here please

i recently flashed rom to my 3d. i did a full wipe and everything but i was told my contacts wouldnt dissapear but theyre gone. also my sd card has 121 mb free but there is only 1 app on it? does that make any sense? thanks for your help.
Your contacts should have backed up to googles servers. Did you ever deselect that option on your previous ROM?
Can you explain the last part? What do you mean you have only one app?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

Your contacts should come back when you sign into your google account and let it sync. No idea about your sdcard.
i cant seem to find out why so much space is missing from my sd? could it be the actual rom itself? the only thing i have on there before using tb to get my apps back is adobe app.
and my contacts didnt come back even after sync.. is there anything i can do ?

I'm going to assume you are using the 8GB card. Umm, you don't have anything on it, like movies or music? Did you create a nand backup before flashing? Those can take up like 1GB of space. Do you use a lot of apps?
Appreciate my help? Thank me

nope nothing on it. and yes i did. about 3-4 times. no on the apps.
View the files on your SD card with a file manager. You should see what's on it.

Wait, what three or four times? Log onto your google account four times or make a nand backup four times?
Appreciate my help? Thank me
Let me get this straight...
Your taking about your micro sd card right? Is it the 8GB one, or did you swap it?
You say you have nothing on it, but the ROM you downloaded right? Also you say you only have one app also.
Can you view in what's in your sd card?
I'm really trying to understand.

You nand backed up four times? Then that can be the problem consuming all your space on the SD card. About the other one idk.
Did you ever uncheck the boxes in the privacy settings in your last ROM? If not, then I really don't have a sufficient answer for you.
I still can't see how nand backing up would take up all of the space, but with all the given information. Theres not much I can say.

You can delete them. Or move them all to your computer to be safe. Just keep one handy, and restore back to it. You'll probably get your contacts back doing that.
Appreciate my help? Thank me
When you have your contacts back. Go to your Peoples app. Press the menu button, select import/export. Then your going to select export to sd card. Select the export to phone and google options. So next time if they go missing, you just import them.

thanks you have been very helpful. one last thing please. lol. how do i go about deleting or moving some of them? =)

Do you know which folder they are in? If you do, then you just go to the folder and right click it. Select whatever option your going to do then voila! Your good to go.
Are you doing it by phone instead of using a computer? Just use astro file explorer and navigate to the folder. Long press it to bring up a list of options.
I assume you know how to move them to your pc right?

Try doing a full wipe (factory reset) before restoring the nandroid backup. If you're using the latest version of TWRP, go to the advanced settings menu, and then choose format menu. Wipe cache, data, system, and boot. DO NOT WIPE SD CARD. Then try restoring one of your backups. Make sure you have your phone unplugged when restoring and rebooting (sometimes it can be problematic when plugged in). If that doesn't work, then try flashing a new rom from scratch.
The easiest way to delete your nand backups, or store them to your computer, is to plug your phone into the computer, and choose mount as disk drive. Then navigate into your sd card, and find the TWRP folder, then choose backups, then navigate into the next folder (labeled as your phone's serial number), then you'll see your backups, which are labeled with the date and time they were created. Delete the ones you don't need, or move them to your computer for safe keeping. That should free up a good amount of space on your sd card, as each backup ends up between 800-1500mb.

[Q] Troubles booting after installing BusyBox

I have a Wind Amaze with Ruby installed. S-Off, unlocked, the whole shabang. I have been trouble free for months with this install...
Until yesterday when I installed BusyBox to adjust some Facebook permissions using the Permissions App. All I wanted was the Permissions App, but I needed BB to install it, so I did it without knowing really what it was. What is it exactly?
Now my phone will boot but after I unlock the screen, it will just freeze and reboot like 10 mins later. Sometimes I can get further but within a minute or so, it freezes once again.
Yesterday, I also installed a new 32GB SD card but I don't think that's the problem, as I've tried my old card. I'm considering just reflashing the device with a new ROM but I don't want to have to go through the trouble of reconfiguring everything.
If anyone has a fix or suggestion, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have Titanium Backup installed on the phone and I'm fairly sure it was backing up regularly. But how would I use that when I can't even boot the phone? I tried booting into custom recovery and recovering but no files were present.

Lol accidentally given a thanks but eh, doesn't matter.
You'll need to reinstall, since you have no backup to work with and we don't have a flashable zip of the WIND system files for ya, sorry.

Titanium backup makes backups of apps/app data, a system backup via recovery makes a backup of the entire system including all files/apps, etc in the the system partition, that's why you should always make a backup in recovery and keep it on your sd card just in case this happens, busybox and the likes change system files/permissions etc, just in case it doesn't work well, you can use a system backup to restore the system files it modified.
Two totally backups, get the idea?
Ah ha, makes sense. I wish I had known this earlier but I suppose this is how you learn.
Could it be possible to grab the titanium backup files if I attach my phone to my computer in disk mode then transfer them when I install the new ROM?

Should be possible, if you can't get it done in the android interface, reboot into 4EXT recovery and choose the mount USB storage option, should make your memory card pop up like it would on the phone for you to copy your files to your pc.

Ouch, you might be out of luck man, might need to get a new phone as theres no real known "way" of restoring the backups of /efs folders or nvdata.bin etc on this phone yet , give this thread a read http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1753833 its a known issue that can occur after flashing a rom on this phone... good luck.
edit, usually to save this kind of stuff you need to backup your efs folder, meaning that a nandroid backup nor a tibu backup can't help you with this; it needs to be done separately.

If your rooted use a root enabled file explorer (I use Root Explorer) and open it up to /. There should be a folder called “efs". Simply copy that folder and place it on your internal or external sd, then for safe keeping place it on your laptop/computer

I've been nervous about flashing anything else since I've read about 4 cases like this. I'm so freakin happy I found this thread! I've found the efs folder your referring to, but I don't know if I should copy the efs folder to my external storage or open it & just copy the IMEI folder to my external storage? Your help would be so very much appreciated.
Maybe someone should put this in general and try to get it stickied, as it seems like a necessary preventive maintenance?
Edit: I just backed up the whole folder to be safe, and I'm going to make a general post referring to this problem.

[Q] Nandroid help

Hey guys. I need some help with a nandroid.
First of all, does a nandroid backup the data from the internal storage?
I made a nandroid a few days ago before switching from an aosp ROM to a touchwiz ROM. I wiped the data during the flash. Didn't really like it so I went back. Now I've lost all my ringtones and about 140 pictures. I've always wiped data during flashes and never had this happen. I have nandroid manager and I see there's a couple 1.5 gig folders and a few 500 meg ones as well. Is there a way to go through my nandroid and try to find my pictures? I mean if a nandroid really backs up everything then there's gotta be a way to get my stuff back, right?
Help please!

Aosp is 4.2.2 file system format which is in the /sdcard/0/ folder. TW is 4.1 which is in /sdcard/.... I've found that if you use ROM toolbox go into explorer, navigate to /data/media and move everything from the /data/media/0 back to /data/media except the TWRP file if you're using Team Win recovery.
This is covered pretty good in the Galaxy Nexus forums...

Weird, if I go to the /data folder on my computer, there's no media folder in it. But if I use root explorer, the media folder is there and all my pictures are too.
BUT, I copied all the pictures and pasted them in /storage/sdcard0/DCIM/camera thinking they'd show up in the folder, but it didn't work. I even tried booting into recovery and fixing permissions and wiping both caches, they still don't show up.
Am I doing it wrong?
Wow wtf?
I turned my phone off last night and turned it back on today, decided to check my gallery, and BAM!
All my pictures are back in the gallery!
Thanks guys!
