[Resolved] Bricked? HTC Rhyme - Please Help - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been trying everything I could find to root my wife's HTC Rhyme and nothing works. I tried flashing a custom RUU and now it won't boot. It just hangs at the white HTC screen. Now, I can only get to the bootloader.
The only thing that I've been able to do successfully is unlock/relock the bootloader. This is my wife's phone and I really want to root it so that she can have the benefit of being able to completely backup everything. However, at this point, I just want to get the damn phone to work again.
PLEASE... Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I'm still working on this. I'm finding a few hits on Google for this kind of issue but nothing seems to be working.
Please... anyone with any input at all would be helpful.
Thanks.

Boot into fastboot and run your device's RUU from your PC.

Hi... I tried to run the RUU application from my PC several time but it always fails with an error message saying that the "WRONG BOOTLOADER VERSION".
Thanks for your reply anyway.
********** UPDATE **********
I got it to boot-up normally.
I used the method explained here to extract the boot.img file and flashed it in fastboot.
I still have no recovery though. I really want to root this phone or at least get a recovery on it that I can create nandroid back-ups with.

If you have S-OFF, you should be able to flash CWM and root your device.

Problem fixed.
I was able to extract the stock recovery and boot image from the RUU application and flash them from fastboot.
Recovery is back and it's booting normally again.

Please Help with Soft Brick, no CWM

I recently unlocked the bootloader and rooted the HTC Jetstream. I wanted to change the apns.xml file in the framework-res.apk. It's been awhile since I've done anything with an android device and I forgot to install CWM. I was in a rush and had done this a few times so I didn't think anything about it.
Now the tablet is stuck in a bootloop. I can get to HBOOT and therefore Fastboot, factory reset, etc. I even ran the factory reset but I'm still stuck in the bootloop. I came across this link so I could download a "stock" ROM, but the instructions call for CWM which I don't have. I was hoping that I could flash this ROM with Fastboot, but since I've never done this I wanted the opinion of an experienced Android user.
Thanks for your help in advance.

Can you get ADB to recognize you tablet at all?

Unfortunately no. I think maybe the factory restore took away the USB debugging.
But since I have access to fastboot, I think I can flash a new system.img correct? And since I downloaded the "stock" ATT ROM it has the system directory. Only it isn't a system.img file.
I found another link that says this to create a system image like this:
sudo mkfs.cramfs temp/ system.1.5.img
sudo umount stock-system
sudo umount temp
So if I was to do this could I then flash via fastboot like this?
fastboot flash system system.img
Thanks for your time
Solved
My Jetstream is now back to normal. I used the information in this post.
Once I downloaded the files from the link I had to plug the tablet into my PC and put the it in fastboot mode and relock the bootloader "fastboot oem lock". The tablet turned off and I had to put it back into HBOOT mode. Run the .exe file that came with the download. Here I ran into a little trouble because the .exe file couldn't find my device. So I had to reinstall the drivers. After that just follow the prompts from the .exe file and I was good to go.

Evo 3d stuck in boot loop

Hello all , well I had it working great, used the HTC unlock procedure, because i`m at 1.50 HBOOT S-ON "Unlocked" ... installed the manual recovery, then flashed it with FRESH 4.1 for 3D, it seemed fine, then I got into installing apps...... and it glitched on me and went into this reboot cycle....
Guess I did`nt wipe it right or something, because all it will do is turn on and say "FRESH" then reboot and does the same.....
I downloaded the stock RUU and it fails says" error recovery failed" I have tried everything and spent hours on this 1....
Is there anyone out there with a Nandroid Backup file ?
is that what I need ? i`m screwed here....
ANY guidance would be greatly appreciated

You can't run a RUU if your still unlocked you have to relock your phone to do that..
What you need to do is place a copy of your recovery.img in your adb folder
plug your phone into the computer start adb.
Go to hboot...
Now type fastboot boot recovery.img
now wipe everything other then your sd card and then flash rom your good to go...

I never make backups lol waste of space to me lol... I use clockwork mod 4.0 version works for me all the time... Whatever you are using as a recovery just make sure you have a copy of the recovery.img by recovery I mean the program you flashed the rom with put that img in your adb folder
Use adb to fastboot boot recovery.img
This method saves you from having to pull the boot.img from the rom each time you flash..
Ever get this fixed? Seems like a noob mistake but could be easily avoided taking the proper precautions.

HELP! I think I bricked my Rezound

I’m extremely new to the Android community and I did do a lot of reading on how to unlock, install a recovery, and install ICS on my HTC Rezound. The problem I’m having is that I found an ICS ROM to install. I downloaded it, renamed it PH98IMG.zip, installed it onto my SD card through Clockworkmod Recovery, I then tried rebooting into the bootloader to get the zip file installed, but this is what happens in bootloader:
SD Checking…
Loading…[PH98DIAG.zip]
No image!
Loading…[ph98diag.nbh]
No image or wrong image!
Loading…[ph98img.zip]
And there’s a vertical progress bar on the right side of the screen that fills up, but then nothing happens after that. It goes back into the bootloader screen. Now my phone won’t startup at all, I get stuck at the HTC white startup screen. I can get into bootloader and Clockworkmod recovery, but nothing else works.
If anybody can please help me with step by step instructions I would really really really appreciate it. Thanks.
I should also mention that I followed a YouTube video on how to install ICS on my Rezound (I can't post a link of the video b/c XDA website won't let me).
The video had me unlock the bootloader, install CWM recovery, and install something called Ineffabilis-Deus-v1.0.1-Odex.zip. Everything up to this point worked just like the video (which is point 3:30 on the video). After that, nothing else worked.
I've ended up formatting the SD card from CWM recovery so now there's nothing on the SD card. Not even the PH98IMG.zip file. PLEASE PLEASE HELP!
If you still have ADB set up after you unlocked, here's whatchya do.
1. Unzip the P98 file.
2. Move the boot.img into your ADB directory.
3. Plug your phone into your computer.
4. Run CMD as administrator and type in the following commands
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash boot boot.img
Should work just fine after that. :good:
And I really hope you are at least using the modded CWM recovery from this post and elsewhere, you'll have issues if your phone fully drains otherwise:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=27517554
Worry about reflashing recovery on its own after you get the ROM up and running, just be sure you keep the phone charged. And consider AmonRa or TWRP recovery.

YES! It worked! THANK YOU SO MUCH! Now to figure out how to get Amon Ra installed and uninstall CWM Recovery.
You can download Amon Ra from this post

rename img file to recovery.img and flash using fastboot as below
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img

My Rezound has the exact same screen when going to the bootloader. I tried so very hard to avoid this but it must be done, I have to ask for help. I have no idea how to fix this phone. When trying to boot it gets all the way to the 4GLTE screen and stops, forever.
This phone is rooted with an unlocked bootloader, S-On, using Hasoon2000's AIO. It was working fine up until I did something stupid and loaded Motioncoding's Beats audio installer. (In case you're wondering I did this in an attempt to have the Beat's audio function while using Pandora, unfortunately this stopped the stock music player from functioning with headphones, I'm and idiot, I know...)
The problem occurred once I tried to uninstall the beat's audio installer using Root Browser Lite and deleting the system files they specified in the instructions. Apparently I deleted one to many and upon restart this is where I ended up. I have tried numerous fixes but the problem I keep running into is I cannot get access to Android via a USB connection on my PC. I still have access to the bootloader and to Clockworkmod Recovery but that is it. If someone can explain to me how to fix this it would really make me feel better and I promise I will never try to do something this stupid again. Thanks.

Did you create a nandroid backup as recommended before trying any new mods? If not, reflash your rom in recovery/boot.img in fastboot, with only a system wipe. If so, restore your nandroid, if you don't boot then reflash a proper boot.img in fastboot.
Yeap snuzzo is spot on. I just wanted to add that it's not a big problem at all, not even something to stress about. We will help you get it fixed up. If you have the vertical loading var, there's a PH98IMG.zip file on the external sd card that you need to delete.
Since it was mentioned in the quote, make sure you aren't running the official clockwork mod recovery. Either run amon ra or fly halfs custom clockwork mod

Cannot boot into rom/ cannot boot into recovery HELP!

First of all i've been searching for a way to fix this for hours now without a solution.
My problem is as follows:
i installed official miui beta and got stuck with a boot loop, i was running 4text recovery but i wanted to try something different so i flashed twrp recovery in fastboot. however whenever i try to go into recovery now it just reboots and goes into boot loop again, so i cannot access recovery or boot into my rom.
I have tried flashing several recoverys via fastboot but each time it just reboots and does not enter recovery.
i have also tried rebooting into recovery using fastboot reboot recovery and adb reboot recovery but still it didn't work.
i have flashed another boot.img but now it just gets stuck on miui screen instead of boot loop
is there any way i can get any recoverys to work? i have tried looking for a 4text recovery.img as 4text was the last recovery to work but i can only seem to find the app that flashes it.
i have also tried flashing a rom through fastboot by typing fasboot flash zip rom.zip but it just says failure.
i am now downloading RUU_SHOOTER_U_ICS_35_S_HTC_Europe_3.28.401.1_radio_11.77.3504.00U_11.25.3504. and am going to try rename it to PG86IMG and update through bootloader after relocking it and then unlocking it again but i am not sure that will work.
in short i flashed a new recovery but it just reboots device when i try and enter it and the rom i am on happens to be stuck on boot loop so i cannot get in rom or recovery and flashing a new recovery does not work.
BTW i am S-ON HBOOT-1.49.0018
sorry for the lengthy post and also any grammatical errors as i am tired

The whole problem, which is always the problem is you are S-ON. The MIUI rom will NOT run unless you install the newest firmware. You cannot install the newest firmware with S-ON because it is locked up in a partition that you cannot access unless you go s-off.
Has nothing to do with the recovery. I've been using 4ext recovery pretty much the whole time I've owned my EVO 3d and never had one single problem with it.
There are roms you can run with s-on but not the MIUI one.

cool, didn't know that, my problem now then is how can i reflash a different rom, bearing in mind that i cannot access recovery? do you think putting the pg86img stock ruu thingy on my sd and letting bootloader install that will work?

I do believe that if you are s-on, you should be able to relock the phone and then run the rru from your computer.

My next step was to relock it and run the ruu through bootloader, can you do it through computer/fastboot?
Sorry, I haven't been on the forum for a while.
Read the following link,
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1194053&highlight=relock
It should help you with the process.
The rru file you have should be an executable file that the name ends with "signed.exe" if memory serves. I do believe you can run this from your windows desktop if you are using windows. The link above has the adb command to use to relock the phone.
Once you are up and running again, you can install an ics rom even if you have s-on. I am running one but there are a few steps you need to do in the correct order so you don't end up where you are.
Good luck and have a great weekend!
Here is another good link to do what you are wanting to do.

[Q] No Os, reboot resulted in Bootloop Need Help

Hi all,
chronological steps to bootloop after rebooting, when no os warning sign appeared.
Successfully Unlocked boot loader.
Successfully install twrp custom recovery
installing root wasn't successful.
Then I tried to check features of TWRP which resulted in always booting to recovery.
I might have deleted some data accidentally
Then after many attempts to restore to stock rom I flashed RUU 1.26 from guru's website ...
Phone booted but had touch screen issues.
In an attempt to fix I realized that I could only do with s-off and then tried to flash the correct RUU for 3.17.502.3 firmware but wasn't successful.
I realized the present RUU(1.26.X) might be the reason for all(any .zip) failures from twrp.
I tried to format system and push RUU for 3.17.502.3. But I accidentally rebooted when there was no OS warning came up. It got stuck in Bootloop with HTC logo. My attempts to power it down didn't work and when I press power button + volume down or just power button the led back lights on the home and back buttons flash.
firmware version 3.17.502.3
hboot 1.55 s-on
Phone shows up as HTC MTP device because of which adb/fastboot doesn't recognize the phone.
I guess this is what a brick is called. Is there a way to recover from this ?
Few questions:
1. How can I power off the device? Its been in bootloop for 6 hrs now. I'm afraid the screen will go bad
2. How can I use adb/fastboot in mtp modes to get it to power off / reboot to boot loader?
Thanks in advance.
PS: I have tried all these stuff(rooting, flashing custom recovery / kernels) on 3 samsung phones with out any issue, the procedure was much easier than it is for htc devices. After a day long attempt to root my phone I might have bricked it

UPDATE : The reboot to boot loader via power button + volume down works but it took about 2 mins of holding those buttons, which is unusually long time. So its not a brick As experienced developers say DO NOT PANIC, staying calm and read the forums thoroughly has helped.
I'm trying to see how I can fix the .zip install failures now.

adb sideload isn't working though adb / fastboot work fine.
did try adb push a dirty unicorn rom and tried to install, just to test, it didn't work either
The problem i'm facing now is:
I have installed 1.26 RUU on 3.17.502.3 because that is the only RUU with cid CWS_001 which started all the issues.
From then i'm not able to install any zip files. Now that i deleted the system thinking i can flash another RUU I keep getting error: unable to mount cache. when ever i try to install something. This is one problem the other is for flashing an RUU i need s-off and for getting s-off i need to have ROM that matches with my firmware version(which i'm not able to get) Its kind of deadlock situation i guess.
As I have 1.55 hboot revone doesn't work and tools based on rumrunner fail at second test because when they reboot its going to fastboot usb mode and fails at that point.

UPDATE : After many attempts I could work it out by using guru reset .zip file (1.26.502.12). I did this before as well but was not able to get s-off previously. This time I asked to install superuser when resetting using guru reset file. I got the 1.26 one back with disabled touchscreen. Then I used rumrunners and got s-off and then used the ruu for 3.17.502.3 exe file to get the working on.
Now the bootloader just says unlocked but not tampered. I got the twrp recovery again as it was very handy for me.
I was able to get supercid. Now trying for ARHD 51.0.
After I got the RUU for 3.17.502.3 the only issue i noticed is that when phone boots up I just see HTC instead of "HTC quitely brilliant"
