Xperia S keep turning them Self to 810mhz - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I was playing Temple run brave. First it's fine. But after about 20mn uses! The phone is abit hot. And everything is abit laggy! I wonder why! I check the ram and suprisingly there's even more free space! Then I flash custom kernels on stock ics and overclocked! The problem won't be solve! I realized that it's abt the stock rom! One time in the laggy condition, i found out that Cpu frequency drop to 810mhz! I have no idea what caused the change in cpu frequency. I did turn it back to maximum frequency! And the phone still laggy but better! I suggest that there's something on stock rom keep decreasing phone's performance in everyway( CPU,..) once once it's hot! Anyone experience that problem or only me? Who can solve it?

There is an process, AFAIK, that turns the processor to a slower speed when it gets hot. Try changing the governor to "performance".

Process?

What's the process called? I will try to kill them! I don't wanna change the governor to performance because it will always run at maximum frequency even screen of which drain battery like hell!

Freeze it with Titanium Backup: it's something called overheat control (or something like that)

I would not suggest bypassing the overheat control.

Even freeze overheat controll, doesn't help much! Still a bit laggy in temple run brave!

CPU frequency keep dropping even if i freeze overheat controll. So there must be sth else beside that process!

Maybe a bug in the kernel that you are using.

The game is lag in a few mn while playing the game! So i tried XSX kernel V2! Still lag! Then i flash KA Xs speed kernel found out that while the game is lagging the maximum cpu frquency run at 810mhz. So i assume that cpu frquency does drop on stock, xsx and KA Xs speed kernel!

Maybe there is a hidden process in order to prevent users from locating it and stopping it.
If this issue happens when phone is hot, preventing the phone from dropping the frequency could most possibly kill the hardware.

heh? read the comment in temple run: brave! it's the game's fault.
try other games, if it's laggy then there's problem with your phone.
i played Nova 3 for 45 mins with no lag at lag, though i dont know if the frequency got lower or not, the phone's hot though , but still no lags..

Hrm i found out that it's just a random decreased! Sometime it's fine! But i'm sure it did happen on stock rom n stock kernels but not always! U can try to check ur cpu once u think it's laggy!

I've encountered the same "freezing" when playing Plants vs Zombies for longer time... but I also noticed that when I was in "cold" place e.g. room with air conditioning system, there is no "freezing" issue even I played longer than I used to...
I guess, it is really affected by the unit's temperature...

Let's say that unit's temperature is the cause of the problem! So what make that related to system performance? I thought it was a process called "overheat controll". I freezed it and even remove from system apps. Still no uses!

when i used my phone to play cricket game within 5 minutes it got hot near the camera and i couldnt continue playing the game. I was totally puzzled. Also when i speak a long call for more than 20minutes of continuous the same heat is felt near the camera. Why is it happening. What is the remedy for this? I really feel bad when it happens
How hot did it get?
Why couldn't you keep playing?
Most likely the temperature isn't hot enough to cause problems but I'm surprised search couldn't help you.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA Premium App
its is so hot that if u keep on playing you feel that u may burn your fingers placed over the camera region and the heat transfers to the whole unit as well.
might be an idea to underclock to 800mhz
I must say that playing PES2011 or Reckless Racing for ~15 minutes makes SGS2 really hot. Not hot enough to "burn your fingers", but it's still hot. Elixir says that battery temperature after play equals ~41 Centigrades, so the GPU is about ~60, 70 maybe? Can't check it, dunno how.
Does anyone else have that problem?
Same here, i played Order and chaos for about 6 min and it got extremly hot, so i quit and went to set cpu where i saw temperature was 51ºC...
However, i usually have it underclock to 800mhz and theres no heat(max. 31 i think), but i havent tried to play at 800mhz, i always overclock it to 1200 minimum for playing HD games and still do little stops sometimes while playing...

the same problem... but how do i under clock the device and how does that work for me to get out of my heat problem????
If you guys are playing at night time under low light conditions I suggest you get the App screen filter. It reduces the brightness below the lowest brightness settings that the phone can offer. I have noticed a big difference in gaming as my screen doesn't get hot anymore, only the back which is better than nothing.

Same Problem
Same problem here. Phone gets really hot around the front and back cameras, while playing games like RF11 or Asphalt6. Should I return it or flash a custom rom/different firmware. I am on XWKF3.
Same here on gaming..
The maximum battery temperature I've seen was 55 C while charging the battery, a game (Gangasta on message that data was downloaded successfully via Wifi) got stuck in background consuming a lot of CPU (~50%+).
Sorry guys, this phone as a severe design issue and the temperature problem can't be solved. You only can keep the cpu clock down.
He guys,
It's not only with playing games. My phone was doing nothing and the temperature raised (don't now the temp. but very hot) and the phone shut down, and was completely dead. Could not start it up. Could not charge it, because I thought it was empty. After cooling down, I took off the back and replaced the battery and I could boot it again. I was using internet 10 min. before. I think the cpu's where max. and getting hot. This is a serious problem, and I don't want to root my phone to clock down cpu. I am not a gamer so thats not a problem for me. First time this hapened in 1 1/2 month.
I feel realy bad about this. Did it shutdown because of the heat? Is there a safety thing build in? Is it damaged?
I' m wondering how the guys with overclocked devices cope with the heat. I have my phone only 5 days and it already crashed few times while playing games. Once it was getting hotter and hotter and it wasn't responding. i was worried so I had to hold the power button 10 seconds to turn it off. Maybe you(Frank-HTC) had a similar situation but with an app that was working in background?

Update your ROM.
I flashed XXF2 and it does appear to be running comparatively cooler now.
Sent from my galaxy S2
Had a similar issue - the phone used to get quite hot while playing games.
However, Samsung seems to have fixed this issue (at least for SGS2 India users)
I can confirm that updating the stock firmware (KF1) to stock KF3 has solved this. Intense gaming for 2 hours straight, with Wifi and lots of processes running, the phone is only mildly warm.
If you are experiencing this issues, please try backing up your data and updating your firmware via Kies.
My phone doesn't have this issues, I'm using a water-cooling system now.

[Q] Does overclocking damage mobile?

Hi friends,
I wanted to ask that does overclocking damage the mobile processor and decrease its life in any way. I want to use a Megatron rom but i am afraid to do so, kindly help me out.
Another question i wanted to ask is how to check if my mobile is running baseband or new baseband.
I have LG Optimus One Android version 2.3.3 default rom.
Regards,
Pravin
If you installed GB via official update, then you have new baseband.
About overclocking:
Every processor support a max frequency.Mine supports about 710 mhz. But,I overclocked it to 806,put the phone on "set on boot" and it kept rebooting for 5+ times. However, this didn't affected my processor.I don't think that overclock can damage your phone in any way. Also, until 729 mHz you'll get the same battery performances as at 600 mHz.Just OC until 691 mhz first time and play smth for 5 minutes. If it doesn't reboot( also know as KP = kERNEL pANIC) , then go on until 710,729,748,etc.Until you get KP.After, select the last working value and enjoy.

I dont think the overclocking can damage the phone, in the worst case it can heat up the phone slightly (which i experienced on stock ROM using franco's kernal)
The worst thing that can happen is that the phone will heat up after 1-2 hours like galaxy s and s2 do in 10 mins...

Problems of Overclocking:
1.Decrease in battery life because we are increasing the voltage output.
2.Overclocking causes heating which can lead to damage to other hardware components and again damage to battery.
But since these effects are very minimal and are hardly noticeable(and in with most kernels, processor usage is controlled by good governors) in our phones there is no serious harm in overclocking and will only improve performance.

Heating is not that bad, unless you are a sick gamer or surfer...
Our device uses same voltage for 122-480 and 600-864, so the battery taken is not that bad...
Edit: the phone NEVER gets over 40°C unless there are 35° air temperature, you hold it very hard in your hand or it has a protection...

Once I broke my phone with KDZ and took it to Service Center...
When I got it back, they said that also motherboard was damaged. I tried to look like a fool and acted that I'm surprised.
I'm pretty sure this is because of OC. Don't use higher than 787mhz.
Edit: Oh, and before this problem, I got GPS lock in 1.5 minutes. Now it's in about 10 seconds.

Yeah thats why i said the effect is very minimal. And higher the processor usage obviously more the battery usage. So with kernels like the original lg one which does not have a very good governor(as far as i know) the processor tends to stay towards the max frequency range and hence higher voltage.
Yes,overclocking 'too much' can damage CPU and battery life.

Conservative is the best stock governor... it looks like interactive actually is much more battery saver than ondemand... which ALWAYS keeps at Max..(this is odd)
I love conservative, I am using it because it takes a minute to get Max performance, but then you have maximum performance... but when you do a short usage and keep minimum frequency at 122, there is a chance you will have no higher than 480...
Also, one thing I recommend is using maximum at 480 when idle and listening to music... phone tends to keep it at maximum always when awake and music in background... and 480 is smooth for small tasks... and really battery save!

OK lets put it this way..
Computers.. desktop for example.. are well known to be overclock..
CPU problems would be.. HEAT. it causes the processor to malfunction, reboots and worst to be cooked..
since are device is to small and 806mhz heats it up not much to burn.. its ok
but? it malfunction.
and overclocking SHORTENs your processor LIFE. that is true
Bad if too much
We are actually pushing the limits of our phone.
Too much of everything is bad..especially HEAT.
Beat the heat...
Battery drain is not a problem just as "vlt96" says.
It can decrease life of your mobile's processor as maufacturers claim.
729 Mhz or 748 Mhz should be sufficient for medium use.

Let's take a stroll. Through the useful information garden. And over the obvious bridge. Look! Its a butterfly! Let's name it What kernel u running? So beautiful. It'd also be helpful to know if yer overclocking, messing with voltage settings, if u were charging the phone, and....anything else that could help someone actually solve the problem.

Dip the phone into the bucket full of cold water and see if it actually drops a few degrees.
Rule one of messing with electronics is to keep track of what you did so if something like an overheat or reboot issue suddenly arises, you know what the probable culprits are. without knowing what you were running before the heat issue and now, the only real advise is to compare your setups and see what is different.
I'm not overclocking. I haven't touched the voltages and I'm running the latest shostock with the kernel it comes with. I'm posting this because all I'm doing is browsing the web or just sending a text and my phone is literally way too hot to even hold

(As a note, the temps quoted in the above link are conservatively low. But better safe than sorry in ruining your phone)
Your phone will likely be fine. Most of the components that get hot in electronic devices (cpu, gpu, ect) can handle well over 200 degrees Fahrenheit. Obviously it is still a very bad idea to let any electronics get overly hot -and hard to hang onto because of heat is overly hot.
The first thing to be affected by heat will be the battery life. Batteries "can" (not guaranteed) be irreparably damaged by +160 fahrenheit.
Could lowering voltages cause a phone to run even hotter? I would think it's the other way around...
My phone gets very hot from time to time. Only when it's on the charger though.
"Seasons don't fear the reaper, Nor do the wind, the sun or the rain"
I noticed the same problem when on the lastest version shostock a week ago. It would only happen when the phone would lock-up. I can't remember exactly what programs I had running. I believe I was just sending or reading a text at the time. And I don't use the FB app that much. Maybe once a week. Happened 3 times during one day and it would good from nothing to hot in a matter of seconds. Almost too hot to touch. Took the battery out one time and place it under a fan to cool it down. Kind of scared me so I was checking the phone all day long to make sure it was not doing it again.
I honestly just thought it was a bad rom install so I downgraded back to GB after those events. Hasn't happened since. I had no OC or UV going on just stock settings.
I hope there is software and hardware fail-safes in place if the temp gets too high.
I noticed the XDA app after I closed it was still pulling 10-15 cpu power after I killed it my temp went down quick. See if that might be doing it....
Heat
Ok.... The more you have going on...the hotter the phone will be. The cpu's under loads will definatly create temps. So kill apps. Check how your cpu package handle and read up on cup settings. In on smartaz 2 with ioa .

i run into this same issue. running the fluxi kernel with rootbox aokp. usually i just pull the battery, wait bout a minute or 2 for it to cool back down and restart the phone and the issue goes away. i usually run app killer after i exit the app.

Play a game for 5 minutes -> phone slows down to a crawl.

Wha the **** is up with that? I'm actually raging right now.
I play any game for 5 minutes or so, and when I quit it the phone has it's performance basically halved. It goes like this: Run Quadrant Standard -> get 3300 points -> play 3D game for 5 minutes -> game slows down noticeably -> close game ->run quadrant again -> get a score of 1600.
What's up with this crap? It's so insanely aggravating. I restored my phone from PCC and it still happens. The only way to get it running decently again after it starts crawling is to reboot it.
Seriously, I've had it with this piece of crap of a phone. I think this **** crossed the line, I'm selling it.

I don't have that visible underclocking under CPU Master. Mine always says 1500 as max frequency. It looks like you set it to 800 manually.
But anyway, I think it's related to overheating because I noticed that if I let it sit for a while after running a game performance goes up again.
Anyway, I don't give a crap about what's causing it. A phone should NOT overheat from normal use. Ok, it's summer and it's hot, but seriously, I've had it with this phone.
I can't deal with this. I'll just sell it and go back to my trusty ol' Xperia Ray on Gingerbread.

All high power phones have problems with overheating and becoming slow. Install a custom kernel and undervolt it, that should help. Also using a custom rom and kernel has reduced my heat problem a lot.
Of course your xperia ray doesn't have issues because it is slow. A dual core in a phone is going to heat up.
I have played shadowgun for 30 minutes without any slowdown.

Overclock lg p500

i m using cm7 stable rom on my p500........with overclocking min 480/max729 ,governor-performance,scheduler-cfg.....
is there any effect of overclocking on battery life or performance on mobile?
more performance but lower battery life.
Mmm ok I have some questions, what is a normal overclock to improve battery life but without sacrificing a lot of performance.
And the other way around, an overclock that improves some performance without sacrificing too much battery.
What are the "optimal" values of an overclock (Without making the phone unstable)
I would just overclock until you get phone instability or you go as far as you can for the current kernel (I'm on AOKP 4.0.4 and it's 787 max which is what I'm at).
Battery life doesn't get affected that much because it's mostly drain when playing games where it ramps up to the max clock speed, at which point you're draining a lot of battery anyways.

Thanks, I also have AOKP so I'm going to work around it a bit, how can I test stability?
Go to Rom Control.. Performance.
Remember to UNCHECK " Set at boot" option.. so that if anything happens.. it can return to default value after a reboot.
If random reboots or white screen appears or phone hangs.. its not stable.
I'll rephrase my question, what type of test can I do to ensure I have a stable overclock. I don't want to find my phone turned off out of the blue and maybe missed an alarm or what not. Thanks anyhow for the tips
Just do general usage. If it works fine for 2 weeks at a specific clock, it's likely to be okay.

You will only know by using. The CPU manufacturers label a chip ancertain speed because it fails a test at the next level. That means that some chips can handle faster than others. They are guaranteed to be stable at the rated speed.

Not necessarily. Voltage and heat are usually what kills electrical components. Since our device can't change voltage for the CPU, that point is irrelevant. However, heat is a factor but AFAIK the heat from overclocking doesn't increase that much for this device, unlike something like PC CPUs so that's fine as well.
