CM9 on I717 is fraking sweet

If nothing else this is all but official confirmation that there will be an official CM9 for the AT&T Note (albeit this was always likely) but it might also (but probably doesn't) hint that Cyanogen himself might help maintain it. (I bought my G2 for the specific reason that it was his daily driver at the time)
Edit: Looks like I was treed by 1 minute on this one
Yeah he has confirmed about cm9 for our note !!!!! He said no public realise is out yet but hold tight ....that's what he said on Google....I can't wait lol

This was announced months ago on the cyanogenmod blog.
Order of operations (in true geek form, the pun was intended):
1) Exynos based systems would come first.
2) Next would be MSM86xx based systems...hence the skyrocket and our Note.
Old news is no news.
Thanks for the update, it's much appreciated to see that we're nearing a release. I'll be refreshing get.cm twice as hard now.

Regardless of the reason, I'll bet the first taker $20, it won't appear on cm nightly network for download, until Samsung has the i717 ICS kernel for download.
I'd be happy to be wrong.

Awful how? I have tried two ICS roms and they bludgeoned GingerBread to death.
Performance is absolutely awful. I have been ready to return this thing a few times but I am trying to hold out until the kernel source is released to see if we can get any bump in performance. Scrolling is awful, period, on every rom I have tried. I am really hoping this isnt a snapdragon S3 issue, as were ****ed if so. Then the constant redraws, lag, app hangs, etc just make me want to switch back to WP7.
Have you tried the Unofficial rom? It is fast and clean and super stable.
It sounds to me like you have a bad Note. I had one and exchanged it. It took forever for screen transitions and the SPen was super laggy which made me originally wonder what Samsung was thinking. Until I went in for a different issue (the backlight bleed on the white notes) to swap it out with a black one.
Even the Hybrid is very fluid with all of its customizations.
yeah I ran TPC, unofficial ICS, and now dagr8s hybrid at 213 dpi. Tablet mode is awesome, but useless with all the lag. I have 3 home screens and maybe 7 widgets, and its painful to use at times. My Sensation 4g SMOKES this thing.

This is just one bad experiance.......the ics roms out right now are GOOD and smooth and fast. scrolling on my note is very smooth. you may have a bad note, or are just setting it up wrong. everyone has little tweaks they do that they think help the smoothness. so in the end what im trying to say it IS NOT THE ROMS......
Just kidding lmao, but theres an OTA out for the Galaxy Nexus .
We could also do a port from the android sdk... I'm sure this wouldn't be as far fetched as everyone thinks. Someone did this for my previous phone. (To get ics) and I don't think the kernel has changed much from android 4.0 to 4.1 so kernel changes shouldbt be a problem....
This is very tempting... Mods please do not close the thread

***k yeah, that'd be so awesome
The ota is only for the ones they handed out. But shouldn't take long for someone to get it working on others

I say let's focus on getting some stable ICS ROMs that aren't Sense 3.6 running on this device before we tackle Jellybean. Considering we don't have the sources for ICS, it'd probably be a bit hard to try getting Jellybean on this device without it.
Once we get a complete CM build then it will be easy to merge the changes once the source is released.
Porting SDK's while good for passing time almost never work well (As they should, no driver support just basic OS)
But if anyone is up for some early Jelly Belly the Galaxy Nexus is only $300 unlocked at the Google Store
*EDIT* Sorry $350 not $300

Looking for an AOSP rom I can use as a daily driver. Just saw that Google Now has been ported over for anyone running an AOSP ICS rom and I'd like to try it out. The roms I have seen for the Rezound all seem to have issues with data not working, etc. Are there any out there that are stable without major issues?
If not, I guess I will just have to be content waiting for a Sense based JB rom to come out. Something tells me I won't have to wait terribly long.
If you are having data issues then there is something going wrong when you flash. Are you s-on unlocked?
We do not have AOSP, yet. We are waiting for source to be released.
Whisper ROM coming soon.

I have a feeling we'll have a AOSP by mid August or so.
There is a really good chance that at some point we'll see an official OTA to JB after ICS finally drops. The Rezound is less than 6 months old, still one of the high end phones in Verizon's lineup (for now) and it's just an incremental update. It's not like the jump from GB to ICS.

I know everyone is mad about the official ota taking forever but he might be right. The rezound is very capable of running jelly bean and this phone and the incredible 4g are the only high end htc phones on Verizon. The OG Incredible is still getting small updates for God sake. Let's not jump to conclusions that things are over for us rezound users just yet.

No need for ASOP for Google Now, just ICS. I have it running perfectly fine on CleanROM DE, minus the same no voice search issue everyone else is having. If you are running into no data problems, then you are running an older version of that port. The no data error was fixed

Hey guys!
Yesterday I read an article about "CyanogenMod no longer delivers support for devices with snapdragons 1"
And as our device is a "cooper one", it seems we are not gonna make it..
Source 1: "CyanogenMod ya no entregará soporte para equipos con Snapdragon S1" - bitly.com/MCS7bU
Source 2: "CyanogenMod formally confirms ceased support for Snapdragon S1 devices past Gingerbread" - bitly.com/MCSGT5
And here is the official post of Cyanogenmod's Team (from Google+):
CyanogenMod 01/08/2012
CM 9+, N1 (and other S1 SoC)
The Nexus One, along with the other first generation Snapdragon devices (devices with the QSD8x50, MSM7x25, MSM7x27 and MSM7x27T SoCs), will not be supported beyond the CM 7.x (Gingerbread) branch.
We’ve been holding off on finalizing this, looking for ways that we could make this work and be happy with the release. Sadly, it never panned out, and we’ve decided that it’s time to stop our efforts.
The Nexus One in particular would have required a custom hboot to repartition the internal memory (which itself was limited to 512 MB, like most devices of that generation) and the proprietary libs available (from 2.3) would have required compromises in the CyanogenMod code that we are not willing to make. The wide variety of MSM7x2x(T) devices, on top of these problems, also have a complete lack of media libraries that are compatible with the new APIs introduced in ICS (video decoding and encoding, specifically). The pieces just aren’t there.
Does the capability to run ICS or Jellybean exist on these devices? Yes, with enough time, effort, and hacks it can be made to work. Do we feel the experience is worth all of that? No.
To measure our releases, we use the same subjective criteria as users do: “speed”, “jank”, “butter”, but also factor in user experience (UX) and other intangibles. However, beyond this is something that we can (and do) use as a ‘pass or fail’ mechanism, the Android Compatibility Test Suite. The CTS is used by device manufacturers to ensure that their changes to Android source do not break Android API, platform and other standards. This, in turn, brings stability to the Play Store for app developers. Breaking CTS would lead to a bad and inconsistent experience for app devs, which in turn would lead to a bad experience for you guys as users. If CyanogenMod was perceived to be blatantly violating CTS, developers could eventually blacklist CyanogenMod users from using their apps (or worse, Google could blacklist CyanogenMod from the Play Store altogether). No one would win by going down that path.
If, in the future, a solution is found that passes CTS, we will revisit the topic.
For users that are adamant about trying to run ICS and beyond, options exist. We are not going to recommend other builds however, as they are more than likely breaking CTS, and therefore our quality assurance standards as well. You can find them if you look in the usual places.
-The CyanogenMod Team

Also, I'm not sure of the environment needed to run Jelly Bean on the Galaxy Player, but does this mean that your dev friend was able to get a working 3.0 kernel?
Well, if this is real, both Player's will be set for awhile, as the 4.0 CAN compile and boot venturi sources (with some very small modifications). This would mean that the 4.0 would just need a modded kernel before we could use JB, so we would be about a week behind you guys. After that who knows, maybe both teams can join with a shared source, and we can work on making android better...together.

The thing is, it's Gingerbread with it's horrible ram management that is causing the low ram to be thinned out as much as it is right now. ICS and JB has much better ram management than any Android os ever. In actuality - the upgrade to ICS and JB would work out for all of us - while ram is still low, it won't deplete as bad or as fast as Gingerbread.

This is completely true. I tried playing MEI (mass effect infiltrator) a few days ago on ICS, and the difference is unbelievable. On GB, it would freeze and stutter horribly, and VERY quickly get to an OOM condition and I would have to reboot my player. On ICS, it plays beautifully. It's smooth, playable, and actually fun! I believe ICS/JB is the windfall this player's been waiting for to be usable, and enjoyable.
