I've been just having some strange problems with my s3, hoping you guys can help.
When I try to send a picture via mms (a picture I took with the s3) it says it's compressing and then says it's an unsupported file type and doesn't send.
When I and beam a picture to my Nexus 7 it only sends the tags. Not the actual picture.
Anybody know what can cause these?
Mine is compressing and sending just fine. Are you using the stock messaging app?
As for the beaming that is exactly what happens when I tried to beam my friends galaxy nexus. I'm thinking they made the beam proprietary to only work with s beam!

Which carrier are you on op
Also it isn't Sammy's fault s beam and beam aren't compatible
Its an ics thing when both devices are on jellbean file share should work

What colors would you like? What do you mean you're not able to ascertain which messages are new versus old? Enable timestamp...

new message and already read message...appears same.

People are sending me n00dz but i can't open them! Any idea why this happens? I click the download button but it just goes for a while and then gives up. The file isn't even that big... using the stock messages app and my S3 is on AT&T.

Hi guys,
I'm new here and have been looking around to try and get my question answered but haven't quite had any luck.
I'm made the move from iPhone to Android and absolutely loving it. I'm sure we're all aware of the MMS issue? I have a couple of questions regarding this.
1) When sending MMS's from iPhone to iPhone and iPhone to Android, the picture quality is obviously much much better. Why is this? Why the limitations? It's definitely not the carrier.
2) I'm aware of Go SMS and all those 3rd party apps, but is there a mod or "fix" to the resolve the issue? I'm currently using LiquidSmooth RC7 and love the jelly bean messages app.
Apologies for the long post!!!
Thanks

Haha believe it or not, I was expecting an answer of that sort!!! Hopefully there's a solution out there somewhere!.
Thanks for the welcome

What messaging app are you using?
When i first made the move from iphone to android I was using Go sms and Hancent. Both had this problem but after switching back to the stock messaging app, havent had the problem.
Using Liquid Smooth ROM which has stock jelly bean messaging app.
I stuck my sim in my iPhone again and a friends Windows phone and MMS that are sent are way better quality. Only on Android it's shocking... just curious as to why exactly.

Hmmm that could be the reason why. Try using Stock SMS if you can. if not then I'm out of ideas.
Yeah already tried that. Still nothing. Apparently Cyanogen Mod has a settings menu where u can change the outgoing MMS size. I'm sure there's something in the code that can be changed but not sure where. Will wait for CM10 and see if that changes anything.
Thanks for the suggestion though.

Need to change the compression level of the MMS i guess.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Yeah, would be good if there was an option to set the limit. At the moment it's at like 40-60kb. Ridiculous. All other phones have a much higher size.
Sent from my GT-I9300
Yeah its a shame really. Only working solution I've seen is to tell go sms to preserve image quality and stop compression.

Actually it is the carrier, when you are sent an MMS, the carrier sends you a SMS telling you to get it.
Your phone then connects to their server and passes a user agent string. The carrier then works out what's best to give you.
If they haven't got around to adding you user agent, often they go for worst case scenario.
Some apps allow you to have a custom user agent (messaging, not web) which should help.
The other possibility is the iPhones were using iMessage instead.
+1 for iMessage. Why use other between two iDevice?

Op what country are you from mate? Regardless of what other people say it is true MMS on android is shocking so i use whatsapp it is a multi platform app and you can send 12sec vids and pictures via your data and it doesn't cost you anything extra. Only costs a few kbs of your data. You can also use kik. But i wish the mms quailty was better to be honest.
I don't see how its the carrier when the same carrier on other phones don't have an issue.
I'm from Australia mate. Yeah started using watsapp a while ago then deleted it.. but other people need to be on it too don't they?

Yes.
But it still might be the carrier, since iPhone to iPhone probably doesn't send mms, but uses imessage instead. That's why there is no limitations in picture size.
I personally prefer using Line. It's free (whatsapp costs 1.99 USD a year for "server costs")
iPhone to iPhone worked even before iMessage was out. Pics that were sent were delivered in good quality.
I've found my solution for the time being. Facebook messenger has added SMS/MMS threading into its app now. Very seamless and convenient. I've tested sending MMS to phone numbers without them having a Facebook account (or not being Facebook friends) and the pics get delivered in great quality.
Thank u all for your suggestions

Isn't it like jb 4.2 keyboard?
yes and No
the Note 2 keyboard has the number on top of the Keyboard which is something i like most about the keyboard
4.2 keyboard has built in swype tho which is a plus
So does the stock Samsung keyboard for Note 1. What's different?

I've been looking for it as well... it has built in swype just like the JB keyboard plus the numbers in the top from the Samsung keyboard and automatic s pen detection.

A good remedy in the meantime could be lowering the longpress time to 200 - 300 ms on swiftkey flow.
You get the swype feature and the numbers on top with a very short long press. Kinda ironic.
Works for me!

I'm going to take a look at the ATT & TMO stock ROMs to see if I can get this running on the NOTE1.
There is an old thread that lists the following as dependencies for the Chinese keyboard:
/system/app/SamsungIME.apk
/system/lib/libhandwritelib.so
/system/lib/libjni_secime.so
/system/lib/libXT9.so
/system/lib/libXt9core.so
The lib files for the version of MyScript used on the NOTE 2 keyboard are located at:
/system/lib/libMyScriptEngine.so
/system/lib/libMyScriptEquation.so
/system/lib/libMyScriptHWR.so
/system/lib/libMyScriptShape.so
/system/lib/libMyScriptSolver.so
Of these '/system/lib/libMyScriptHWR.so' is the most likely dependency for the keyboard. The other libs are most likely SNote/SMemo related.
I was able to get the new Android keyboard (JB_MR1) working on the Stock ROM by completely uninstalling the old one then installing the new via TB. It didn't work for me by simply updating the new on top of the old.
IDK if this is what you are looking for, but number 7 works for our phone also!!!

I haven't been here a while, should I try to get these dependencies into the current ROM? I can upload that as well..

So this has been a problem with every ROM 4.2 and up with my phone, basically all other galaxy note 2's and iphones will come in as a group thread, while any other phone (all galaxy 3's and 4's in my case) will come in as individual MMS messages. This doesn't happen on touchwiz ROMs and group message works perfectly, only problem is I'm in love with 4.3. I've searched far and wide and it seems as though I am the only person with this problem. Any help is appreciated, thanks!
Additional info:
ROM: 4.3 illusion rom
Kernel: 4.3 devil kernel
Like I said this has been a problem with all ROMs and kernels 4.2 and above.

Group messaging only works correctly on SCH-I605VRAMC3 based touchwiz roms because it's the native base for our phone.

That's just reality, if you want correct group messaging you need to be on the native base.

Just use GOSMS and you can setup group messaging for sms and mms how you like. I prefer to have all sms/mms group messages be sent individual.
