Im currently stock/rooted on official ics and id like to know which roms are compatible with official ics, are all of them?

That doesn't make sense...a Rom would replace the stock Rom, so compatibility isn't an issue....if you mean can you flash a new Rom from that one, then yes.

Guess it was a dumb question. I just thought that since we had a leaked version of ics and an official version that there might be issues flashing say a rom from 2 months ago while running official ics. So there is no difference between the leak and official so i can flash whatever rom i want.

Flash up or down. It does not matter.

I've just made the move to ICS recently and want to update to the latest AOKP+Glitched. On my Eris on most roms you had to reflash GApps after every update, is that the same situation here as well?
i.e. Flashing an update over an existing AOKP.

Well if you don't have any gapps after a rom flash you should probably flash them

Only if you want to get it thru Kies
there is a .tar file in the main Official ICS thread that is used with Odin
Im not sure if I'm being misunderstood, I'm wondering if its necessary for me to upgrade to official ICS in order to flash future ICS ROMs?

I get what you are asking, ignore the last guys comment. Yes, to upgrade official firmware you have to be on official firmware unless someone makes a one click odin for people to install. If there are anymore upgrades from AT&T you will have to be on stock Gingerbread or Stock ICS to do the official upgrade.

There is a .tar file to flash thru Odin
I'm running it and flashed it thru Odin
And I wasn't on official firmware
Kies is another option.
Read up before you bash
The majority is flashing thru Odin and rooting thru Odin as well

Not true. I was on the CM 9.1 rom from hotwire, connected to kies and ran the update with no issue.

I don't believe so, no. When you flash a custom ROM (whether ICS or otherwise) you should do a full wipe anyway, so being on official ICS is irrelevant.
And the developers comment out or remove the signature checks for their roms so you can upgrade from any rom but samsung roms do a signature check and abort if stock rom and modem are missing.
Thank you very much guys.

I used Kies on my PC whilst in Download mode twice yesterday to put the official update on my phone.
I had FJ's UCLF5 / IMM76D B9 on my Note both times.
I used the process detailed in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
XDA is no longer worth my time.
Hi there!
I am wanting to update my Samsung Galaxy GT-i9300 but am worried about the process because of having installed a custom kernel previously (would this muck up installing a new custom rom I wonder..)
Please find attached a screenshot of the settings and please tell me what I should do (if anything needs done) before I flash a new custom rom.
Cheers!
if you're worried about kernels, then just flash stock kernel then flash a custom rom on it.

kk, could you provide me with a suitable stock kernel (or links to one) which will be compatible with the rom I have installed?
any stock kernel that is for jb will be fine.

I am on android version 4.0.4 (so technically not JellyBean). and its safe to flash a stock kernel for JB despite being on that version before I flash a custom rom?
Sorry for asking, get confused easily..
you should be fine updating with a custom kernel (as all roms flash a kernel as well). Just make sure you factory reset when moving from ics to JB as you will most likely encounter problems if you don't.

I would suggest flashing ICS stock kernel first if you're worried. I thought you were already on jb.

Easy
Reflash the stock ics ROM
And flash any custom ROM you want
Enjoy

Just about to flash a ROM on my S3 (first time), and I'm just asking are different version ROMs compatible with the stock version ROM? e.g: I have a s3 running Jellybean 4.1.1 (stock) but can I flash a different ROM that's made for ICS?
Thanks

Just make sure, that your s3 version is made for the rom. If so you should be able to flash all roms. Why would you want to go back to ics?

When you mean s3 version do you mean like GT-i9300 etc.? And so if it was made for that (GT-i9300), I would be able to flash any ROM?
yes
I want to flash Google now, which I have done before on a custom rom. It says you must be on a deodexed rom. I'm thinking of going to Santod's rom. Do I really need to be on a deodexed rom to flash Google now?

Yes, it needs to be deodexed.
I have 4 versions of the stock rom posted, two of which are deodexed.
As well as 7 other custom roms I have made available, all of which come with Google Now already cooked in.(not the stock ones of course)
Thanks. Your awesome. Are all the roms on one page with ics? Or a different location? And only the stock ics roms need radio flashed, correct?
