Hi there!
I am wanting to update my Samsung Galaxy GT-i9300 but am worried about the process because of having installed a custom kernel previously (would this muck up installing a new custom rom I wonder..)
Please find attached a screenshot of the settings and please tell me what I should do (if anything needs done) before I flash a new custom rom.
Cheers!
if you're worried about kernels, then just flash stock kernel then flash a custom rom on it.

kk, could you provide me with a suitable stock kernel (or links to one) which will be compatible with the rom I have installed?
any stock kernel that is for jb will be fine.

I am on android version 4.0.4 (so technically not JellyBean). and its safe to flash a stock kernel for JB despite being on that version before I flash a custom rom?
Sorry for asking, get confused easily..
you should be fine updating with a custom kernel (as all roms flash a kernel as well). Just make sure you factory reset when moving from ics to JB as you will most likely encounter problems if you don't.

I would suggest flashing ICS stock kernel first if you're worried. I thought you were already on jb.

Easy
Reflash the stock ics ROM
And flash any custom ROM you want
Enjoy

Im currently stock/rooted on official ics and id like to know which roms are compatible with official ics, are all of them?

That doesn't make sense...a Rom would replace the stock Rom, so compatibility isn't an issue....if you mean can you flash a new Rom from that one, then yes.

Guess it was a dumb question. I just thought that since we had a leaked version of ics and an official version that there might be issues flashing say a rom from 2 months ago while running official ics. So there is no difference between the leak and official so i can flash whatever rom i want.

Flash up or down. It does not matter.
Hai, my SGS2 now on x-treme jb aokp 1.1 but i want to go back stock ics 4.0.4. Is there any suggestion for me or i just use odin & flash stock firmware?
I'm not very clear in this matter.
Please help me out.

You just need to flash stock rom through odin.

You'll just flash an ICS firmware
It doesn't really matter what customROM / firmware you came from, you can just directly flash it. go to download mode and flash an awesome fw hope this helps

Rather than making a new thread, I hope you don't mind me asking a question in relation to your initial question.
Is it okay that I install an ICS 4.0.3 as opposed to installing a 4.0.4 one? I wish to avoid the eMMC bug that I dismissed by installing a different kernel, I would rather avoid 4.0.4 until there's an official fix. If so,
Download 4.0.3 stock ROM
Flash using Odin
Back to stock ROM, kernel and in root?

The best way is to root, total wipe, then flash custom ROM and not flash over the stock ROM!
Hey guys,
I'm running rooted leaked XXLSJ JB firmware.
I recently try to flash cm 10.1 via cwm but whenever I flash.. I always get something like error 7..
What should I do, to flash properly?

Error status code 7 when flashing ROMs usually means the install script failed an assert when trying to determine if you have the correct model of phone that the ROM is intended for.
Where did you download the copy of CM10.1 from? Are you sure that it is for your model of phone? According to your signature, you have an I9100. Are you sure you didn't download CM10.1 for I9100G, for example?

This is because your likley using Philz kernel for leaked JB.
To flash other custom roms you will need to change kernel back to a previous ICS or JB kernel like Siyah.
Flash the kernel (.tar version) via ODIN/Mobile ODIN.

Thx, I didn't know this about Philz... Mainly because I'm avoiding JB until Samsung releases an official version.

But I'm not using philz kernel, I never flashed it..
I just flashed this leaked firmware few days back.. That's it!!
Anyways, but most of them say to not use siyah kernel with cm 10.1... Rather use dorminax kernel with it, what you say about it?

Hey
Flash dorimanax but don't boot and then flash cm10.1

Just about to flash a ROM on my S3 (first time), and I'm just asking are different version ROMs compatible with the stock version ROM? e.g: I have a s3 running Jellybean 4.1.1 (stock) but can I flash a different ROM that's made for ICS?
Thanks

Just make sure, that your s3 version is made for the rom. If so you should be able to flash all roms. Why would you want to go back to ics?

When you mean s3 version do you mean like GT-i9300 etc.? And so if it was made for that (GT-i9300), I would be able to flash any ROM?
yes
