Concert Recording Quality Part Deuce - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I just found videos of the Motorola Atrix 4G recordings at various concerts, and I must say, I'm extremely impressed! It might even be better than the damn iPhone 4S! My question is, if the Atrix can record the audio so crisp and clear, even through loud bass, why can't the Galaxy S3? Some people have come to a conclusion that it's a software thing, and not a hardware issue. I also read that it may be a proprietary lib, whatever that means!
"Supercurio is trying to fix this but says it may not be possible to due to proprietary libs in use relating to audio recording."
Is there ANY way around it? Maybe someone can transfer the camera recording app the Atrix 4G has to the Galaxy S3?
Thanks!

I'm running CM9 right now... tomorrow I might record a test video and we can see how the audio compares. If its good for me then we can conclude that its software.

I have a short video I shot in the street with dj playing some music and I thought the audio was good.

Voodoo sound

Coming from the cappy, is it possible for this phone to have the benefit, or is the audio chip not the same?

Not the same. Not as powerful from what i understand. Would be nice though...

This is a shame, and will keep me from upgrading to the S2. I have a captivate now and was looking forward to improved GPS with the S2. However, GPS is good enough on the captivate now (custom ROMs), and the sound quality is too good to give up.
Maybe try listening to the sound quality?
I haven't noticed any significant difference between the two.

I noticed quite a change. The Cappy is slightly more 'crisp' and with bass boost that was in voodoo, it sounded far superior to the SGSII.
Is there a way to incorporate bass boost?

Interestingly enough - Supercurio is working on doing some MC1N2 audio tuning. It's in extremely early stages (as in, he has no threads on it, it's only there for those who really know where to look, and he does NOT like when people put alpha-grade testing software of his into widely available releases.)
So some interesting stuff might be coming - who knows, often research projects like that just don't pan out, so don't get your hopes up.

I've seen some that work great with music already on your device. I'd like to have one (like voodoo sound) that covers any audio that comes out of the device for use on apps like SlackerRadio and Pandora.

The only issue with market equalizers is that they are mostly software based which will distort the sound. Voodoo sound is software thats specially designed to rework how the hardware outputs audio allowing for better clarity

I spoke with supercurio a couple days ago about this actually, and according to him there will be no "Voodoo Sound" for the SGSII. The hardware simply does not have the features required for it to work, and the audio hardware is really inferior to the previous generation Galaxy S phones as well.
I cant believe that would be a deal breaker for getting this phone....i think it sounds great as is! But, to each his own!

He seems to be working on a subset of the features though -
https://github.com/project-voodoo/mc1n2_voodoo
How well it actually works, who knows - it could prove that the above link is a failed experiment.
He's doing a simple "Volume Boost" app, mainly for the Galaxy Note, but he mentioned it could be used on the Galaxy S II.

Being able to maximize the digital gain while tweaking the analog gain should improve things a little - but not too much.

hacking the Camera.apk

for those of you who are unaware, Samsung likes to put parental controls on their Camera. youll have limits on when youre allowed to open the camera, such as below 15% battery, during music, while youre in a call (where its bluetooth or not), and during media scanning. on top of these limitations, youll also be faced with a mandatory shutter and focus sound, whether your sound is muted or not.
on all of the previous Galaxy phones, weve been luckily enough to have developers mod the camera.apk to fix these broken implementations. Fr4gg0r on the Galaxy S, and pulser_g2 on the Galaxy S II. who will be the one to mod the Galaxy S III Camera.apk?
anyone up for the challenge?
edit:
ive updated the Camera.apk attached to an odexed version
Can you post the camera.apk here, so that we can try?
I have my SGS3 on preorder here in the Netherlands, so I have 3 weeks to go...

If support for the reported 120fps the hardware supports could be implemented, that would be legendary. I don't care what resolution it drops to really, but for me it would be extremely useful.
120fps, youd probably need a custom camera app for that, not a modded one
i know Fast Camera in the market can do some impressive stuff, even on SGS2

Just turn on vibrate or mute from the pulldown bar and you'll have no shutter sound.
I find it almost concerning that the pics form my S3 are only 1.5mb filesize, my S2 they were twice that and with hte old GB modded camera apk they were nearer 6mb
the pics like great but i cant help feeling that I am not geting as much detail as is capable?
Lot of good replies.. id like to See a 60fps at 720p which should be possible since the iphone 4s has it and we have the same sensor

[Q] Beats Audio for Galaxy S3 GT-I9300

Hi guys, Im new to gs3 but not new to rooting ect, my friend wants to know if beats audio is availble and working on the new s3 on stock ICS. if so can you hook a brother up? im currently using beats audio on my ace

No, Beats is not supported. However, the audio quality is already very good and Supercurio is also working on his Voodoo kernel which improves the audio quality a lot (much better than Beats).

This x1,000,000.
The wolfson audio codec in the gs3 is top quality stuff, its already amazing and with supercurio showing it some voodoo magic it will be the ****!
Beats is a gimmick.
The "I want Beats Audio" threads are the only ones where I ever have to restrain myself from coming in and flaming people.
To the OP: rest assured, when the S3 gets Voodoo anyone who isn't near-deaf will forget all about Beats.

I agree with your point but the thanks were for the band in your signature!
I wouldn't call S3 sound quality bad but by no means would I call it good, because I've owned a lot of Nokias and the sound quality is just in a different league to Samsung, and I've tried Voodoo on my SGS1&2 but still not even close, and if I want to listen to some music I prefer to dig out my old N95.
Audio quality really depends on a lot of factors: music player, earphones, environment, music file, etc...
Comparing combinations of the above factors is impossible and counterproductive. It's better to compare each part of the "chain" individually.
So far the SGS3 comes very close to what I consider very good. It's not perfect, but then again, I'm waiting for Supercurio's work to be finished. Compared to my HTC Desire and my old iPod nano 2nd gen, it is really good and I hardly dare to ask for more.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
I tried same tracks, same headphones and same equalizer settings and also manually changing them, but my N95 beats it with maximum volume and all through the range, and I just find the S3 sound dull and muted in comparison.
Beat's is completely portable to the SIII.
This feature although controversial will be in our next Warm ROM installment for the SIII.
I just posted a link to the dsp manager app. I like it better than beats because of customization ability.

How to get Beats Audio on your SGS3:
1. Use a music player with an equaliser
2. Increase the gain of all low frequency bands to maximum
And voila, instant Beats Audio!

[Q] Loudspeaker Performance

How is the quality of the loudspeaker for calls and music as compared to HTC One X and Samsung GS 3?
Anyone?
I, like everyone else who didn't get the phone at the announcement event, haven't received the phone yet. But this is definitely a question I would like to know the answer to also. I have had the Evo 4G, Evo 3D, and now the rezound and my least favorite part about all of them has been speaker volume and quality. I know that the DNA has a dedicated amplifier for the loudspeaker and the headphone jack (can't remember the exact wattage), so I am really hoping for the best here. I want to be able to watch and hear a YouTube video when i am in an area that isn't completely silent, something that I haven't been able to do with my last 3 phones. We should be getting our phones towards the beginning of next week and if you haven't gotten an answer by then I will post my findings here
Thanks mate... Look forward... Surprisingly I am not getting an answer to this question anywhere in the forum even though many seem to have the phone already! Anyways I look forward to your feedback.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda app-developers app
I have read that it's clear until the volume is at its peak and it also isn't that loud. The only loudspeaker I have heard that is amazing is the iPhone 4S due to it being so loud and clear only if it ran android.

OK, Received my phone this morning so here is my feedback. The speaker is excellent. It is quite loud and music is clear even all the way up. It's still a phone though so I don't see myself listening to music on the speaker. It is really good on headphones! Both are definitely better than S3 but can't speak to the One x.
Feedback anyone else?

HBO GO on the HTC One?

How is the HBO's streaming service on your HTC One? For some reason or another, the highest streaming quality I can attain is 480p. Why is this? My Internet is strong, my brother's iPhone outputs 720p, yet I'm stuck with poorer quality.
Can anyone else who has HBO GO comment on the streaming quality on their device? I'd to really like to know if it's an isolated issue or widespread.

Mine seems ok as u can see from the screen shot I tried to get here...but it can get blocky at times I noticed...but for the most part it's fairly clear....if u look at the app page in play store seems like there are a lot of complaints about how the app is bad lately....maybe there's something wrong in general....
