Help with Sola - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

So I finally bought sola and this is my new phone and the first droid device I purchased.
So I want your help to get me acquainted with the device. There are few issues as well in which I want your help as well with some general questions.
Issues
1. The battery is a bummer - last for less than a day ? I kept the brightness at lowest, use internet for around 2-3hrs , less music and yet battery drain very fast . I am on ...162 firmwire.
2. There is some lag now and then, when closing apps like instagram the icons vanish and the phone feels laggy for few seconds.
Some apps suggestions -
I currently have instagram, pocket, any.do and some other handy apps installed nothing premium. I have around 20gb storage. Please do suggest me some apps not games though.
Apart from thsi I have few rom , modding and bootloader questions.
Since I have never done such stuff I am kind of scared but want to do. What are the benefits of rooting and is there any guide for newbie for rooting / Will I be able to unroot the phone if something wrong happened ?
How do I unlock bootloader ? Also will I be able to undo as above.
Also is there some good rom available for Sola ? like MIUI if not can we hope for such rom in the near future once ICS pops out.
Other than that what precautions I need to take after and before rooting ?
I know that is a lot of questions. But please do help.
Regards

Hi,
First of all congratulations for your new Xperia Sola...
Now to answer your questions,
1. I am on stock .564 firmware, haven't updated it to .162 , since I've heard there are network problems, and yes battery is also a bummer. Personally though, I feel that the battery is great, I did a few calls, messaging, some wifi, and my battery is still at 93% (4hrs since I removed it from the charger), My battery lasts a full day on heavy usage, and 1.5 days on medium.
I think it may be due to the .564 firmware I am using, that's why I haven't updated it yet. Wait for ICS, it may improve battery life.
2. Yes this happens to me as well, when I close any heavy apps, like asphalt or other heavy games, the launcher restarts ( icons are reloaded and all). IMO, when the phone needs more memory to run heavy apps, it stops other apps to free up memory - explaining the launcher being stopped. According to me the 'lag' that you are talking about is because the launcher is being loaded into memory, and all icons need to be loaded before use. There is a solution to this-
There IS a custom ROM available for our Xperia Sola, the launcher is locked in memory in this ROM, so I suppose the launcher won't be restarting after you exit any heavy apps, thereby removing the post-heavy-app-lagginess. I HAVEN'T tested this ROM so I can't be sure of this.
Here is the link.
KA02 Xperia SSpeed
Since the phone is quite new, there are not much ROMS available right now( Not even MIUI, sorry), but on the brighter side, an XDA dev, Keiran is working on to build a CWM recovery for our phone, it will definitely help in devs to design ROMS, and other Mods.
I won't suggest you apps, since I have a bad taste
And finally to answer you question regarding Bootloader unlocking and rooting :
The benfit of rooting your phone is to gain access to the android files. There are many apps that require root, such as Titanium Backup (The best backup s/w available), Ad-free, etc.
But there's a catch , to root your Sola, the bootloader needs to be unlocked first...Here is the link to do that.
Bootloader Unlocking
Once you unlock your bootloader, your warranty will be void and you will NOT be able to get official updates via sony update service. BUT there's a way to RELOCK your bootloader. Here is the link
Relock Bootloader
NOTE: Even if you relock your bootloader, there is something known as DRM keys, they are lost FOREVER when you unlock your bootloader, they cannot return even if you Relock the bootloader. The consequences of lost DRM keys are that you won't be able to use some 'Sony' apps such as TrackID etc...
I am also a new Xperia Sola user (4 days old) and this is all I've gathered searching here and there.
Please press thanks button if this helped

Battery issues with Xperia Pureness on my Xperia Neo [Build 10]

Hello everyone.
I can't post yet on the development forum and I just don't want to flood to obtain the 10 messages, so I decided to open this post.
My bootloader is locked and I use (obviously) the stock kernel.
I have Xperia Pureness Build 10 on my Xperia Neo (I started with Xperia Pureness 8 and upgraded to 10 doing a full clean install) and, from the first day, I observed that I drains the battery incredibly fast compared to my previous experiences with the GB stock ROM. Previously my battery lasted 1,5 days ~ 2 days depending on the use, now it lasts 0,5 ~ 1 day with similar usage. I want to know if there are other people like me, because I recognise the great ROM Pureness is, but the devouring battery feature makes it totally impracticable. Maybe it's because it's meant to be used with other kernels like Alliance? Is ThilinaC aware of that problem and working on solving it?
I have tried to set CPU values to minimize the consume, limiting the top freq on 800 MHz on demand, but nothing. I have been planning on doing some actions:
1- Do a battery wipe with: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...xLDEsImNvbS5uZW1hLmJhdHRlcnljYWxpYnJhdGlvbiJd
2- Upgrade to build 11, although I've seen on the forum other users saying the battery consumption since build 8 is terrible.
3- Try another ROMs for locked bootloader, focusing on total stability (the most important), as fast as my previous experience with GB stock kernel/Xperia Pureness and battery friendly.
4- Unlock the bootloader and try other options that match the characteristics said above (the pity is that I don't want to loose the warranty).
Sorry for my English (feel free to correct me and improve it) and thanks in advance for helping :good:
Only wiping battery stats doesn't calibrate battery. You have to discharge the battery completely and charge it to 100% non-stop, without any breaks. That is how you calibrate the battery.
Also I recommend unlocking BL. You can flash custom ROMS and kernels which are battery friendly. Also, there is a way around the warranty voiding by using test point method to unlock. Search about it and see if your phone can be unlocked by that method.

Thanks for the answer.
I read about the test point method, maybe I'll try. But I prefer doing It with the best option in mind, regarding a stable and fast experience on ICS, so feel free to recommend a particular ROM + kernel (I don't want a terrible Jelly Bean last model ROM with no FM, no HDMI and totally unestable, I think the Xperia Neo can grant a good ICS experience and that' what I'm looking for).
Also this post too is for knowing if there are other people with my battery problems on Xperia Pureness.

[Q] Battery Hunger and slowness after Rooting.

Hello People,
As you can see im new to this community, i hope i won´t bother you so much.
I got an S3 myselft and unlocked it right away before even using it. Did use Samsung S3 Toolkit , which i think its a great tool and this forum is a huge palace full of incredible geniuses so i´m really grateful for what is has done for me already.
As i stated in the title i´ve been getting serious problems after rooting my phone , everything working fine. or i think it is. But the UI in general became slow as hell , it crawls on the floor , pressing the menu butom to go back takes from 5 to 8 seconds to respond onto something , no matter what , oppening applications is not that slow but switching pages or screens is LAGGY as hell. I tried full wipe , cache wipe , before and after flashing.
Actually using this rom I9300UBEMA1_I9300UVOELL1_ARO its the Non branded version of my Local Firmwar (Argentina) , the kernel i use if the one that comes with Samsung S3 toolkit 7.0.0 the 4.1.2 unrooted version for JZ054K.ELLA ( file name :boot-insecure-ella-GTI9300 )
The original Firm and kernel the phone had was the 4.0.4 "Personal" Branded BLG6 Kernel.
I know this phone is already known as a battery killer , but i didn´t spected to be that kind of slow to crawl device. I´ve already tried multiple task killer apps like AutoKill or ES task manager , Better battery stats to check battery drain but still cannot find a reason. Tried Juice Defender Ultimate on Extreme settings. And did nothing to my battery life.
Then Looking for some Customized roms i found out 2 that took my attention :
One of them is Omega and the other is Android Revolution HD, which one of these are going to have a possitive effect on performance gain + battery economy without overkilling phone capabilities ? . Is that the answer? or are there any real app / patch that could really resolve this issue.
Well people im sorry if this question sounds quite stupid or bothers some people but i already researched more than 200+ hours and i couldn´t find the exact point where i should be heading to solve this.
I would start with a fairly, near to stock Rom, I won't suggest any, just go to development and read up on the Roms, but also try a custom kernel.
Don't use task killers, they are counter productive if not used right.
I would also suggest going through what you have enabled, the smart features can heavily affect battery, also poor signal, and it might well be you need to check your modem (baseband) and see if there are other more suitable ones.
Keep reading and searching and you will develop a good understanding of various ways to make this phone fly, just don't rush things.
And, backup, backup, backup! Enjoy
Better Battery Stats and Greenify from the market may help .

He's right, try flashing a more popular widely used stock firmware like the XXELLA rom or the recently released ones. Also do post screenshots of BetterBatteryStats.. Kernel wakelocks are major reasons why battery drains. Often IM+Social Media apps use network data in the background and are culprits behind wakelocks.
I for one can confirm the Facebook native app as being a major contributor to the problem.
You should also check if "Fast Dormancy" is supported by your carrier or not? FD is by default enabled on the S3, disabling can save substantial amount of battery life. You can do so by downloading "Fast Dormancy Toggle App" from PlayStore.
As for custom roms, it really depends on user experience. I have used Omega rom and it easily lasted a day and half for me with good usage.
Currently I'm running CyanogenMod 10.1 and it lasts me 2 days

[Q] 2.1.1.A.0.6 Firmware Stock Eclair - How to obtain Better Batery Life?. Solved!

Hey people.
Well i have a little problem, i went back to the stock eclair version but the battery is a little worse than GB.
Some say that is possible to make Eclair more battery life than GB with some steps.
I tried to do some steps that were shown to me in my other thread:
Jit-enabler
CWM-Installer
X10Mini Undervolt module
Root-Explorer
Remove Apps
I did this on 2.1.1.c.0.0, but the battery started to become Unstable and Hot, that's why i downgraded now to 2.1.1.a.0.6 and hoping that anyone knows how to help me in this one.
So question is: how to get the most battery out of my Eclair in XPeria Mini Pro x10?
Good answers will deserve a Thanks Press Button

u better try custom roms than original x10 mini pro..
why?
-undervolt is great but ur phone will be slower (dont u knw u20i is a low end devices?)
-remove systems apps could make another problem.. (fc there & here)
-using "link2sd" is great way to save phone memory problems.

I don't think there's difference at all, i've been testing today the stock 2.1.1.a.0.6 with many apps removed, rooted, with 480mhz/122mhz min with SetCpu.
In the results i've obtain today i notice 3 things:
1 - Undervolt isn't worth it, in GB i used only 3 days to test it and the battery life was the same as not having undervolt at all, besides it makes the phone worse. ( well i don't see this phone as a low end, i see this phone as an almost perfect one, it has a good camera/good sound/stable, so what more do i need? just because it doesn't have Original a 2.3 android with 1000mhz processor and stuff? What is the point of having a phone with such power if the sound/camera/stuff isn't good enough?. This is the only phone that never get me problems for going to repair, and the material that this phone is made is very good, the paint doesn't damage and in general nothing is damaged, it's always like it's brand new and that is amazing, this phone is no low end, it's an underrated device. I only use this phone for "calls, sms and listen music", battery lasts me 3 days using this )
2 - Removing apps is safe to do, as long as you know what you're doing, for me it went well because today i had no force closes or problems.
Just an add: don't need app2sd/link2sd and stuff like that, i only use the basics of the phone ( music, calls, sms ).
3 - And this one is the blockbuster: For everyone who thought that GB was better in battery life than the original Eclair, well think again...
This time i only made the steps: stock 2.1.1.a.0.6 with "many" apps removed, rooted, with 480mhz/122mhz min with SetCpu, without undervolts and stuffs like that.
And the results were: The very "same" battery life than GB roms. That's right mate 'and all people who is seeing this', Today i'm testing it and right now i'm still with 78% battery life ( phone is on for about 21 Hours now ), what is the very same amount of battery i used to have with GB roms about now.
So for everyone who is afraid of going back to Original Stock Eclair, don't be afraid, because it's the very same as GB roms in battery life but it's even more stable and secure. All you have to do is those steps i already mentioned above and you're good to go , but... if you want to use your phone with apps that only work on 2.3 Android or if you like to Customize your Rom then just Stick with Gb roms and you're good to go 2 , just make sure you're using Gingersony V06 ( with led fix ) because it's the most stable rom out there and you're good to go .
Well i think this subject is Closed now. Thanks

Looking for advice, recommendations and tips to better my phone

Hi all
Had my Samsung S6 Edge for over 2 years now, just finished my contract and decided to go sim only with it for cheaper price as I am still happy with the phone and it is in good condition, albeit it could do with a little spicing up plus battery life is not as good as it once was
I frequently use the AirDroid app on my phone and PC to manage files etc and I liked the idea of AirMirror where I can view and control my phone directly from my PC but for proper access it needed to be Rooted, which I did and managed to get it working however what I didnt realise was that by doing this due to jailbreaking phone and security risks, some of apps detected this and would no longer work such as Halifax online banking.
So for time being I done the cleanup root via SU and everything is back to normal now, so was hoping for a little advice.
If I wanted to have my phone rooted, spiced up abit cosmetically and better performance, without being blocked from using apps like online banking PLUS anything that will help make my battery life better......
In other words make my phone better aswell as the battery, thats kind of important as it barely lasts 12 hours from 100% charge anymore and I am not even a heavy user with it
What would you recommend for me that isnt too technically challenging, hopefully foolproof to setup and get going?
Thanks

If you root by flashing twrp recovery and then by flashing magisk through twrp, you can use all your banking apps and any apps that are usually blocked by rooting. Magisk has a feature called magisk hide. So apps that check for root like Halifax and such will not detect root and you can use as normal.
Then when you have twrp installed you can experiment with custom ROMs and kernels which can both improve battery and performance. Also by debloating and removing a lot of services you don't need can help with battery.
Will look into these methods unless you have any links handy and I will have a go
Thanks
Got TWRP and Magisk on phone, seems to be in order. Done a root checker and it says I am rooted and safetynet passed, so I believe all is in good working order
The ROM I had my eyes on is the Tyrannus ROM, only reason is by a google search top ROMs for S6 edge, the Tyrannus ROM was best recommended for battery saving.. though this was only from one article.
Copying the ROM to my phones storage now before I flash it, just wondering though if you or anyone can recommend me a worthy ROM of trying out?
Tried Tyrannus, not that I didnt like it but I have ended up with Car HD. Was awkward getting SU off and getting Magisk but a couple hours later I figured it out :x
I just hope the battery time is improved using Car HD

Seems alright. The 'removal of bloatware' wasnt as drastic as I had imagined tbh, so I downloaded a bloatware removal app from the store and only safely.... removed some apps, such as peel remote/language packs/standard email app .. etc that sort of stuff, nothing you would imagine is necessary for the actual software........ oh but was I wrong, it wanted to reboot after and then the lovely red text... couldnt boot properly, bad kernal or whatever it said.............. Pretty amusing at the time as I was actually out, messing around with phone while girlfriend was shopping...... couldnt wait to get back home to get it hooked back up to the PC ha.
Ermmmmmm yeah other than the above, if you or anyone can recommend any SAFE apps that automatically remove un necessary bloatware for me (So I dont have to use my brain and KNOW whats safe or not to remove etc).....
Otherwise, if CarHD mod was gooooooood....... but is now dated....... Can you recommend anything that is GOOD - Like really good, current, best?? I'd rather not try every single ROM as its quite a chore redownloading everything and setting everything back up, to decide after a few hours of use I dont like it. Rather take recommendations from people who have already tried + tested these ROMS
I disabled samsungs auto power app saving feature and installed ForceDoze as well kaspersky battery saving apps, so far battery life seems better already. I think mostly with ForceDoze

Is it worth it to install a custom rom?

I play a lot of games so i definitely don't want to lose performance or don't want to be kicked out of fortnite. And i really like the miui gestures but also hate the bloat and notifications not coming etc. And how can i unlock my Pocophone?

What a nice reply from a brazillian fellow =)
hey OP, I'm with u, with stock rom and locked bootloader...
I would suggest u to unlock BL to solve ur notification issues, u'll need root too and flash that gps+speedview mod zip.
As far as bloat is concerned, its a serius issue, miui keeps mining our private data in d background. So I wil move frm miui forever once LOS 16 official becomes stable, will never flash n use data mining miui.
as for my experience. in todays android i see not much benefit using custom roms. most of the things we need are on the play store already.
whats more important for me now is to unlock bootloader, custom recovery and root access. to remove unnecessary things my default os has
and wat about touch problems and lag ?
I bought my first smartphone in 2011 and a while after a rooted it and never went back.
Been on custom ROMs since then and i can tell you two things for 2019:
1. There's nothing a locked-unrooted phone can do that an unlocked-rooted phone can't do.
2. There's almost nothing an unlocked-rooted phone can do that a locked-unrooted phone can't do.
The matter is which workarounds piss you off the least.
If you choose the "unlocked/rooted/custom ROM" path, be prepared to do some research and find yourself here on XDA every other day (especially in the beginning).
Personally, i tried to play clean for about 2 months now that I got my Poco (locked-unrooted). Almost everything I needed could be done.
But old habits die hard. I want more. So i'm in my 40th hour of waiting for my bootloader to be unlocked atm...
My question would be why would you like to stay with that buggy, overbloated, intrusive and crappy interface called MIUI?
Xiaomi.eu version is less bloated.
Also install malakas Kernel and your good to go, no thermal throttling with module in kernel thread. Kernel works also with Los ROM.
As for root, just run magisk and hide root from apps that sniff for it.
There are many options out there.
Skickat från min POCOPHONE F1 via Tapatalk
It is VERY worth it imho...
Sure it's a bit of a hassle to unlock the poco but just for the battery drain alone it's worth it.
I went from losing about 10% battery in a night ( all antenna's off , battery saver on ) to just 2% ...
Daytime battery drain has also massively improved.
Even if miui is to your liking you can still get a lot more benefits for unlocking and re-flashing the poco

Lol that was so long ago, don't worry i installed xiaomi eu like few weeks after and using it ever since.
I would say yes. Stock ROMs are nice in some ways, but I don't necessarily trust that they're not data mining. I've tried damn near every combination of every ROM and kernel available. I want speed, battery life and privacy. Official RevengeOS, Arter Kernel R7, F2FS, no gapps, no microg. That's my current setup and it blows stock MIUI clean out of the water.
Ultimately I guess it depends on your needs though.
All custom roms for poco is ****, all contains tons of bugs lmao,
None of them works for screencast , oxygen os,rescurretion remix rom started to bootloop after 7-8 hrs,
I ve tried rr, oxygen os, lineage os, crdroid already, all got problems,
So i installed back stock rom, rooted via magisk, and uninstalled stock apps which i dont needed.
Now i m happy
I recently got this phone with the intention of flashing it daily like I used to with my Nexus 5, however, so far, I have had no reason to run anything other than the stock MIUI. It works well, does what I need it to, and as long as it gets updated on a regular basis with security updates, will suffice.
