Well, just don't remove it. Just in case

thanks for warning but I removed it same minute I bought it, touch is more responsive now, and colors are a bit vivid, and no problems at all. Just be careful with your phone and nothing happens : ))
I have no screen protector and my screen works perfectly.
Just saying.
Edit:
Wait. By looking VERY closely at the edges of the glass, I notice there seems to be a small gap, and it looks there is some sort of layer on top of the glass. Is that a screen protector or is it part of the screen? It doesn't look like it can be removed actually.

There is a protector installed on the screen at the factory.
I removed mine and it still works perfectly if not better.
Use your brain people.

this isn't a problem by removing the screen protector
it can be everything except that
why not:
screen protector has almost nothing to do with touch (it decrease the touch sensivity) that's all
what can be the problem
phone became wet
phone became hot
hardware fault
and more except screen protector
Maybe there is some glue residue left from removing the protector making it less sensitive in different parts of the screen?
Screen only works when there's something between my finger and the screen!!!

well, i can't even open the screen protector.

I removed mine 3 months ago and I don't have any problems with touch screen.
I don't understand why people try to remove it, if it is preinstalled.
I always keep those on, until it become messy, then put the third party on, i just don't like leave the screen naked

I've never used a protector with any phone but I look after things. I removed the pre installed "protector" and have had no issues. If your clumsy leave it on.

Ive removed it and got glue left at the top left edge which i cant remove :S

Sadly I dropped my phone today and damaged the factory fitted protector (at least it was doing it's job!), peeled it off without issue and replaced it successfully!
The Terrapin replacement isn't quite as good but hopefully it'll do the job, and thankfully I didn't damage the screen whe I dropped it.
As I said it before, I don't think that Sony will bother to add that pre-installed screen protector and add cost if it is "useless"... but ofcourse, the choice is with us i.e. if want to take risk of removing it or listen to them...

Is it just my phone, but when I'm talking on the phone and my face is moist (sweat) from the hot weather when I try to click over or hang up it won't respond. I have to turn the screen off and turn it back on or wait til the person hangs up. Is anyone else having that problem or is it my phone?

Moisture is a touchscreens worst fear. Anytime they get wet they will do funny things. Just wipe it off on your shirt or whatever...
I do and I have a screen protector on. It still doesn't work. It doesn't be a lot of sweat jus a very little.

Screen protectors make it worse... for me it always has anyways. I'm a mechanic and use my phone all day, and even without a screen protector I haven't scratched the screen on my hero, shift, or this phone in the last two years I've had a touchscreen/smart phone. They make them pretty resilient, ya know.
Lol.. It may be my phone. Who knows.
I jus switched screen protector hopefully this one works.

Hello guys.
Got mine SGS3 as a present 2 weeks ago. At first I didn't notice this, but now it makes me wonder... Btw this is mine first touch screen and Android phone.
1. Friction between finger and screen oscilates. In one moment, it is super smooth, but in other there is some additional friction with different intensity. The screen is still usable, of course, but this issue is quite irritating. What is even worse, I just can't see any pattern in these screen changes. Even when I clean the screen with microfiber, wash and dry my hands, problem is still present sometimes.
2. Back cover. I noticed on 2 spots that plastics clicks everytime I touch it. Everything seems perfectly fit, except on those 2 tiny spots, although it is not noticable when you just look at it, just when you press it - it clicks. One spot is right besides camera flash and other above USB/charge cable slot. It doesn't bother me that much, I'm more interested if there are other people with similar issue.
I don't have receipt and the phone is bought in another country. Therefore, it is quite a problem for me to return it and ask for replacement. On the other hand, since it is quite expensive toy, it would be ridicilous not to claim it, unless this is "normal" (?!). I want to hear what you think and about your experience, just in case I'm doing something wrong and/or missing something obvious.
Thank you.

Bump.
1. It seems that I'm an idiot and those increased friction between my fingers and screen is caused by my sweaty hands/fingers. It is pretty humid and hot these days, so it's understandable. How can I solve this? What do you think - can screen protector help in my case?
2. Remains. Does your sgs3 plastics clicks time from time or it is perfectly fitted?
Thank you.

1) Put anti-fingerprint screen protector. You will have a bit blurry screen but should solved your issue.
2) Put a case on it and you are good to go
Else, get an exchange....
Enjoy

Do you or other sgs3 users have some recommendations for screen protector and case? Some specific model?

Picked my One up today to replace my freshly broken Nexus 4. So far so good, but this home "button" registers about one out of five presses. Anyone else seeing this behavior? The back button works fine every time.

Got a screen protector on it?
The sensitivity is a bit low for it to register perfectly. Happens on mine.

I sure do! I guess I will try peeling it back and see if it helps.

I have no screen protector and my home button doesn't register often either. Also when trying to touch places in the standard browser it doesn't register immediately. Starting to think there's a defect in screen or software.

I'm having the sane issues it does it with the back button as well. Did it before I put the screen protector on it. It doesn't help that they sit so close to the screen. When I start tapping frantically trying to make it work I end up pressing whatever is right above it on the screen. Thinking about returning it to try another but if it's a common problem I don't want to waste my time. It's not too bad usually at least one of the two buttons will register if the other one won't

Yeah it's my back button as well, I thought about replacing. It seems that quite a few people are having the issue. I don't know should I try and replace or if it's a software issue.

I know I just put the screen protector on along with a carbon fiber skin. The idea of having to go and deal with the people at AT&T alone makes me want to just deal with it. Also afraid I'll just get another one

I agree, if the issue is only on our variant then it could be software or hardware. I have no idea what to do.

Me neither. I suppose deal with it and wait to see how common it is and if any dev can fix it. I'm waiting to unlock and root anyway

I had the same issue on my device. It took three swaps to figure out it wasn't the phone but, the Zagg HD screen protector I had on it. Once I took it off, everything started behaving as intended,
I noticed last night that my Zagg screen protector still had some water bubbles (very tiny ones) near the home button. So today after another night the bubbles are gone and the home button works well enough I can assign a double tap short cut.
Never had any issues with the back button, just for reference.

Noticed the issue as well. Saw it mentioned in a recent review of the phone. You have to be really precise because the buttons are so small.

I'm almost 100% sure it has to do with the screen protector.
I was using an Otterbox Defender case which has the screen protector with the soft keys uncovered. I was using the phone without a hitch. But this morning I decided to use a different screen protector other than the one provided by Otterbox and that screen protector covers the soft keys.
Now I'm having issues with the sensitivity of the soft keys.
Somehow covering the soft keys with the screen protector affects the sensitivity level of the soft keys. I'm thinking of uncovering the soft keys just to finally confirmed that, that is the problem.

Same problem on Sprint variant. I went to the store and the display model also had same problem. Neither had a screen protector.
This is either a widespread hardware defect or a widespread software problem.
Some have said the latest update to the Taiwan variant fixed it.
RE: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245637
I have had the issue as well and I believe it's software, rather than hardware. If my back button freezes and I turn the screen off and then back on, it works fine. It only seems to do it when I "overload" the back button in an app that needs it a lot, like this one.

Hello everyone
I didn't have screen guard installed but only the protective covering. Now it is scratched a lot and I wanna change it. Can I simply remove it and then install a new screen guard? And do non-stickey screen guards come for our phone? Even with least amount of sweat, screen gets sticky and its impossible to move finger over it. Any suggestions?
By non sticky I meant kinda ones we have on s3 and iphones
Yeah, You can simply remove it. Xperia x10 has something like plastic screen, so it will always be sticky and will stop responding with water on it

It becomes very annoying if you are playing game without ac in summers when screen starts sticking. I am a hardcore gamer and whenever ibsit for gaming, 2 hours easily pass

Nah, I'm just joking, You can't do anything. Maybe there's some special screen protection without this effect but I don't know. If Google doesn't help You then nothing can

Has anyone ever seen anything like this?
I've had the phone for about 2 weeks and a couple of days ago started noticing these blotches on the screen. I have no idea what caused it or if there is anyway to fix it.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I don't see any screen blotches. Maybe it's a hardware fault.
Do you have a screen protector? I use the nillkin tempered glass and I've got a few blotches under it, highly annoying as they didn't appear till a week after I had put it on :-/
Thanks guys. I just realized it is water damage. Took it into the pool to take pictures of my kids yesterday and then saw the screen issue last night and this morning I saw water droplets inside the camera lens. Will see if I can dry it out as the phone seems to be working fine otherwise.
