Multiple Storage Partitons - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello All,
I apologize if there was a thread about this in the past I tried searching but wasn't sure how to exactly word it. I was wondering about sd cards and partitions, I believe that the max size the atrix 4g is 32gb internal. What I was wondering is it possible to take a 64gig card partition it into 2 32gb partitions and have the phone be able to read those separately?
Thanks

Most android devices support 64gb microsd. Feel free to try it, btw is not the internal. Internal is 16gb for all of the device needs, os, webtop, etc and the external, the one you are mentioning.

Well I read like the default specs and it said it supports up to 32gb external but that was written I think before 64gb cards. I'm running cm7 so that may help too. Would just hate to spend the money if I put it in and it only recognizes 32 lol.

Sd card help

Needing some help. I have a new 32 micro sd but can only download about 5 Gb of music...I tried looking but can't find a lead on what is going on. Running heathens m9.

Where did you buy it from. If ebay or you got it cheap, from else where, its probably fake.

Vibrant only supports 16 gig micro sd max. 32 gig will not work on it. Previous post may be correct it may be fake, they just modify the index so when you load it looks like it is a 32gig but in reality it is not. If you want to get a decent sd card that is cheap and reliable get the micro sd class 10 16gig by Wintec. I have a posting on the performance of various chips this performed the best and it was 35 bucks
32gb micro sd cards do work on the vibrant depending on the brand. Cheap ones from ebay have issues.

Upgrading the internal 16GB to 32GB

Is there any way to upgrade the internal 16GB storage to a 32GB? I'm not referring to the external MicroSD card.
It might be possible i think samsung use SD cards as their internal storage.
Yh of course there is sell ur 16gb version nd buy the 32gb version

ORRRRRRRR you can try this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1772234
is it even possible ? unless there are motherboard with 32 gb for sale ?
This is not possible for the conventional person unless you have access to some pro level reflow ovens and flash chips.

You need a laptop hard drive, super glue and a hammer.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
So is that basically a no, without serious mods to the phone?
Dude the internal flash memory is what's called smd in electronics (surface mounted device). Basically they are miniaturized semiconductor components with tiny solder pads which can only be joined with specialized equipment.
It's impossible to mess with it at home, that's why I sprung the extra cash for the 32gb version.

This is indeed a very interesting notion since the galaxy s3 was my very first smartphone and android I thought to myself that with the 16gb internal SD with an extra external SD card it should suffice but I was very wrong as apps only install in the internal SD card and I'm almost at my limits since I have alot of HD games and apps installed.

Just buy a 64 GB micro sd card.
Have a look at Directory Bind. This should solve your space issues (assuming you have a micro sd card in your phone).

Lot less hassle rooting than even thinking about opening up device and messing with that...

Yeah but there's a mod to swap the Internal and external SD cards so you could buy a 64gb card and have lots of app storage. Its also a matter of time before the app2 SD gets sorted for s3
Oh well no worries, I can live with it

Can't mount External SD Card

I've tried my S3 with 3 types of card now, 2gb SanDisk, 16gb Kingston and a 32gb Samsung Ultra Mobile. Each of varying classes.
I have used countless ROMS from stock to CM10 and AOKP/AOSP and I can't get the option to mount my card in the storage menu to highlight.
I have formatted them on my laptop as Fat32 and exFat but neither have worked yet they have worked in other Galaxy handsets.
Can any of you guys think of something I need to do to solve it or is it a case of a faulty phone?
Thanks in advance

If the card works with other GS3 but not yours then it is very high possibility your GS3 is faulty. Send it back to Samsung.

Tried it in different phone's and formatted it again but still didn't work???
The s3's faulty for sure. Get an exchange.
Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and send it back. If I get a chance I'll see if I can get someone to try it in their S3.

i have the same prob
Got my 64GB working
I upgraded from 32GBPNY to 64GB SanDisk. Couldn't mount the 64. Tried many things, but in the end, I formatted the 64 to ExFat because it became damaged and I don't have the fat32 option on my mac. Next I put in the 32, and made sure it was readable and mount/unmounted twice, just to make sure, then I put in my 64. After I saw details (card cap, and available), I went to the dev options and set "protect external SD" to on. Rebooted to Recovery and backed-up to ex sd. Once the back up completed I rebooted, went into the settings / more tab / storage. I am now able to mount and unmount at will. Hope this helps!

Micro sd card partition?

So I just got my new 64gb class 10 sd card, and last time I did a partition on sd card was about 2 year ago on the og evo, and I remember its was useful to have a partion ext.3 but now I see there is ext.4 also along the ext.2 as well. so my question is do I still need to partition sd card and which partition should I use? and what size? thank a lot!

I'm getting one in the mail also Saturday and was going to ask also. Don't you just put the card in your phone and format it and it works to get all 59GB? Then transfer all of my info from my 32gb card over to it?

keep in mind; fat32 has 4GB single file limit which means you wont be able to save anything larger than that such as blu-ray 1080p rips, etc...

Sdcard

Has anyone ran into a issue with their sdcard and their Note2?
Last night I used my Note2 with no issues. Woke up this morning and noticed I had a alert message saying that the sdcard had been unexpectedly unmounted. Couldnt get the sdcard to remount. The phone wouldn't/couldnt reconize thw sdcard. And even my laptop couldn't reconize it. But the phone reconized a different sdcard, so I know the phone reader is still working. But this is a Lexar 64gb class 10 xc sdcard. Not some cheap trash. I lost my nandroid backups, movies, pics, etc....
Just glad I wasn't running the Jellybeans v18 on the sdcard swap selection. Then I wouldn't be able to use my phone period. Lmk if you have seen these sdcards go out before. Just beware!!!
Why wouldn't you be able to use it phone if card goes down

What he's referring to is JellyBeans additional "SD Swap" feature which basically makes your phone see your SD Card as the internal storage. I don't know why he thinks his phone wouldn't work though, as with any phone the Internal Storage/SD Card is not required for the device to operate.

I've ran into this issue with Lexar jump drives and had to use command prompt in W7 to make them work again. It always happened when I would write a Linux distro to the drive to use as a bootable disk.
The fix requires you completely wiping the drive, which the two jump drives in question that I always have issues with are actually micro SD card readers with whatever size card in them.
Here is the link explaining how to fix it:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/219693/unable-to-format-usb-stick-to-full-capacity/
What I have to do though is select the disk drive and once in it I have to use the Create Partition Primary command instead of selecting a partition because on my drives there are no partitions and it won't even show up under Computer most of the time. Give it a shot and see if it gets you back up and running, if not you may have a faulty card that Lexar needs to replace.

I was reading, some people are problems with the scandisk 64gig cards. The card might be dead from what I've read. But don't hold it against me, just passing some info. I haven't ran across this problem.

I went through 5 sandisk 64GB cards before I got one that worked for more than a week. All brand new cards. That was back when the GSIII first came out though.

I myself used an adata 64gb class 10 and understand completely about the card just not wanting to work. Granted I'm keeping to 32gb class 10s until I see better reviews in the bigger cards.
Current device:
Samsung Galaxy Note 2
Retired devices:
Huawei Ascend, Droid Charge, Droid Bionic

See I've never experienced any issues with either of my SanDisk 64 GB Class 10 and neither has anyone else I know that owns one. I wonder if they had a bad batch?
I haven't seen anything about other manufacturers 64GB Class 10 cards having issues yet but it is either something to do with Class 10 cards or a bad batch.

I just had a sandisk 32 gig class 10, and a 16 gig both go out on the same day. One in my wife's note 2, the other in my daughters tab2. Neither was recognised in windows completely. I reformatted both, but 16 gig will show blank card on the wife's phone until unmounted remounted. Both less than 6 months old, on the same day. I blame the solar flares, what else can I blame it on?

I wouldn't say that, I would say they are the most expensive therefore people think they work the best. Cause everything that costs more is better, right?

Are you using moon rom v3? Same thing happened to me. It kept saying it was un mounting and remounting. I rebooted my phone and gave a sim lock message. Thought I was screwed. I flashed beans and now im back to normal.

How do you go about doing this? I have no original paperwork or packaging, just a dead 32GB Sandisk card.
call 1-866-SANDISK (726-3475) and tell them about your problems they will ask for the numbers off the card. They make you send your to them first then when they recieve it they'll send you a new one.
