So I just got my new 64gb class 10 sd card, and last time I did a partition on sd card was about 2 year ago on the og evo, and I remember its was useful to have a partion ext.3 but now I see there is ext.4 also along the ext.2 as well. so my question is do I still need to partition sd card and which partition should I use? and what size? thank a lot!
U can see fat32 on mini partition tool....fat32 work on all android mobiles

I'm getting one in the mail also Saturday and was going to ask also. Don't you just put the card in your phone and format it and it works to get all 59GB? Then transfer all of my info from my 32gb card over to it?

keep in mind; fat32 has 4GB single file limit which means you wont be able to save anything larger than that such as blu-ray 1080p rips, etc...

Ok cool, good to know. I don't think I have anything greater than maybe 1.5gb in size which is a TWRP backup.

Not sure if this is the correct place for this thread but I recently purchased a 32GB Micro SD and it has an issue when I go to write stuff to it via USB from phone or adapter into front of PC.
When I put things onto it only certain things stay. For example, when I copy my music folder # - Bs get written on it and if I try to put on pictures nothing happens.
It goes through the process as if it is writing the files but then they go away whenever I remove the device.
Any ideas or thoughts?!?!?
THANKS!
It may be a faulty sd

If you bought a cheap off-brand card, it's probably just the fact that it's a crappy product. If it's a well known product that gets good reviews, it's probably a defect.
Try formatting the card and see if that helps.

It's a SanDisk 32GB.. I formatted it to FAT32. I don't know if that the correct format or not. Heard anything about SanDisk?

It's in Settings somewhere. Browse around the options - it'll be in a menu titled storage or something similar, or possibly in about phone if there's storage info there.
You should also be able to do it from recovery.

In my storage options i have "Erase SD Card" nothing about formatting. is that what i want?
Hey guys I took my sdcard out of the phone formatted it and when I put it back in the phone it now wont detect the sdcard and also it wont detect internal storage also...
EDIT: or nvm I rebooted it a couple times but now it detects the phone storage but when I put in my 16gb micro sd it does nothing until I remove it. When I remove it, it shows that it has been removed, but before that it doesn't show a sdcard is inserted... Yet when I put an 8gb one it it shows that it's in the phone...
Well we just discovered that our phones say there is no external storage at all. From best buy.

I concur with this statement.
I too have a 64 gig card and I formatted it in the phone. The phone sees it as 59+gigs which is cool. But what I am trying to figure out is how to save or move apps to the actual sd card. Not phone storage that is the 9+ gigs, but the actual 64 gig card.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.
I don't think there is a way to do this right now with out changing the mount points

The thing is that the phone doesn't even detect that i've inserted the card. When I insert the 8gb card it shows preparing the sd card and it gives me all the options to unmount/format/everything else. When I put the 16gb one in everything is still grayed out and it doesn't even think i've inserted a micro sd card.

So how hard is it to do that and/or how soon before you think it could happen? It seems though HTC could maybe do something or is just the way Android is. It just seems that it should just be a part of it. LOL. I mean I already have some music on the sd card by creating the folder...I just don't want to run out of space on my phone.
Ok, i'm going to bestbuy in a little bit to pick up a 32gb micro sd and see if it'll work with that...

Hello All,
I apologize if there was a thread about this in the past I tried searching but wasn't sure how to exactly word it. I was wondering about sd cards and partitions, I believe that the max size the atrix 4g is 32gb internal. What I was wondering is it possible to take a 64gig card partition it into 2 32gb partitions and have the phone be able to read those separately?
Thanks
Most android devices support 64gb microsd. Feel free to try it, btw is not the internal. Internal is 16gb for all of the device needs, os, webtop, etc and the external, the one you are mentioning.

Well I read like the default specs and it said it supports up to 32gb external but that was written I think before 64gb cards. I'm running cm7 so that may help too. Would just hate to spend the money if I put it in and it only recognizes 32 lol.

My question is: How can i get the original 32gb capacity back, i don't care about the files saved on it.
Looked around on google a lot, seems like there isn't much hope...
Here's what happend: i did the wiretrick but got the arrow screen, i had already replaced the 2gb card (which i used with the wiretrick) with my original 32gb, then it formatted everything to recover the state it was in before the wiretrick. This caused my 32gb sd card to be formatted to 2gb..
If someone has a solution, i will be grateful!

Yes, but it didn't work..
I am able to recover my photo's video and music with a program called 'Steller Phoenix Photo Recovery', but there's no option to format or anything.
That's the weird thing, multiple programs tell me it is 32gb, yet it can only write the 2gb..

when last i checked the wire trick was pretty notorious for toasting sd cards, so if you had it in while doing it it may have gotten damaged.
hope this helps

Yeah, i had the 2gb in it whilst doing it, but i made a big mistake by putting in my normal 32gb card whilst restoring...
Im trying the mini partion tool as we speak!
Where did you buy your 32GB SD card? I've seen articles about people buying what were supposed to be 32GB capacity cards on eBay and they turned out to be smaller capacity cards (often 2GB) that were somehow formatted to look like higher capacity cards.
I've done the wire trick twice and didn't have any problems reformatting a card that got corrupted on a PC, but I usually buy my SD cards from Amazon or a local source.
ramjet73
It had 32gb in it when i bought it in a store. I donĀ“t like buying online for some reason.
anyway, i fixed the problem!
What i did:
I recovered my files with a program you can easily find online (search top 5 sd card recovery tools), afterwards i formatted my sd card, didn't change a thing. Then i ran into a program called EaseUS Partition manager, this program allows you to 'merge partitions' on your sd card for free.
This basically formatted the part of the sd card that couldn't be used and merged it with the 2gb that could, now i've got the whole 32gb back.
Anyway: thanks everyone!
Any partition tool will merge partitions. Gparted, minitool, windows. Only caveat is winblows refuses to work with ext formatted partitions.
sudo passwd root
With mini partition tool thats only in the paid version..

Where did u buy it.? If u bought it off eBay then u r likely a victim of micro sd fraud. Programmers modify the code to make say a 2gb appear to be a 32 gb, but once formatted, the code is formatted and the true culprit is unmasked

How about you read the damn thread.
How about you place (solved) in front of your title?
That way people see you found an answer and don't have to read the whole thread just to find out you solved it already

Will do, but it's still ignorant since his answer contradicts the opening post...
edit: where can i edit the topic title? Seems like i can only edit the post itself..
You can always ask a mod if you cannot manage to change the title.
And all he was doing was trying to help you find a possible answer. The least you can do is don't yell because he tries.
Did I help? Then please don't forget to press the thanks button.

Hello All,
Like many others I have started purchasing my accessories early, so that they are ready when I get my Note 2 delivered to my door. I just received my micro SD card, and I have a few questions. I am wanting to have all my music and pictures loaded onto the SD card prior to the phone arriving. My only questions is would it be better to keep it in the format that it was sent in which was exfat, or should i format it to Fat32? I did do a search but I was unable to find a definitive answer which was best. It sounds like the note 2 can support both formats. Also most people leaned toward the exfat due to it not having the 4gb size file limitation, but I have not heard anyone successfully doing this even with it as exfat.
Any thoughts or opinions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Matt
I would ask the international folks since they actually have the device.
That being said, I will use exFAT as long as their isn't a drop in I/O performance.

Just a note about the sd cards for this phone. I talked to a Samsung rep last night and asked them what size, speed and file format works in the Note II. He said up to a 64GB Class 10 card formatted to FAT32 will work, and that it can be formatted in the phone.
I just wanted something official since I was reading so many conflicting posts on-line about what works and what doesn't.
I'm using 64gb formated exfat and have no issues. See the file sizes?
