I have seen 2 sites saying Samsung Galaxy S II has been designed with Gorilla Glass so I want to make sure. http://androidcommunity.com/samsung-galaxy-sii-gorilla-glass-confirmed-20110503/ Lost another site link.is that true?
Of course SGS II has Gorilla Glass. But I am still really confused that it will or will not need a screen protector! I really don't like them but I think it's better to have one rather than scratching that beautiful 4.27" screen. What do you guys think?

OK Thanks and I think it is 100% better getting a screen Protector for safety.It is better to get a Rs.100-500 screen guard instead of spending money on a screen after getting scratch on the screen.I am using 1 already and kept 1 as spare
Scratches WILL occur on gorilla glass, but they are less likely to be seenwhen compared to other screens.
So buy a screen protector.

Hmm..I already ordered the 2nd one from Scratchgard.in, Rs.499, so it's costly, still I've read a lot of users posting that they didn't use any screen protector for more than one year wit GG and also they used it roughly, still no scratches on it. Yes I know Gorilla Glass is scratch resistant but not proof.
I'd like some users to post here who are not using any protective screen and post feedback here, if there is any scratches appearing or not.

There's already a LOT of threads talking about this exact topic. Yes, gorilla glass is tougher than your average glass, but it's not scratch-proof, so I personally don't see the point in taking the risk. Gorilla glass can and will get scratched.
Get a screen protector and never have to worry about scratches, or don't get one and always worry.
Guys i can highly recommend getting this screen protector you really cannot tell that you even have a protecter on your screen,after paying all that money for this phone im not taking any chances.

I have had my nexus one for about a year and it has a Gorilla Glass screen. I don't have a screen protector on and I have dropped it several times on asphalt and other surfaces and I don't have any scratches on my screen. I am waiting for the SGS2 to come out on sprint (hopefully) and I won't be bothering with a screen protector.

good for you but id be more "better to be safe than sorry" and for a few quid for a screen protector like the Ultra Olephobic which you wouldn't even notice it was on i believe it's definitely worth getting.
Does the SGP ultra... have problems with air bubbles or orange skin?

I read in quite a few posts about light scratches, most probably due to the anti-fingerprint coating on the glass. But I wont get a screen protector. In the WM times with resistive screens you had to get one because the screens could get scratches with just your fingernail or the stylus, but they all (even the expensive ones) looked bad. So on my HD2 I didn't bother with a screen protector and don't regret it because after over 1,5 years of intensive use (otherwise it was in my pocket or on the stone floor besides my bed) without any cases or screen protectors, my HD2 doesn't even have one single scratch (and I mean the whole device). I just had to remove the paint of the battery cover because it came off on the edges where I hold it, but I would have done that anyway because it looks better, as you can see in this thread. I hope my SGS2 proves to be as good as my HD2.

No it doesn't, honestly i can barely tell mine is on it really is that good just take time to apply it properly there are videos on XDA which are useful regarding this, i did read reviews beforehand and most were favourable but after applying it i really am impressed with it, scrolling is still as smooth as ever,sure you'll get fingerprints and smudge marks but you'd get that on the screen anyway just wipe it off.

Even though it says that the screen is scratch resistant, I wouldn't take the chance. When I got my SGSII, I went ahead and searched for a pouch and a screen protector. Money well spent!
I have it from 1 month ago, without any protector a no scratches. I transport my SGS2 in my pocket always.
For those of you who say that they aren't worried about their phone scratching because its always in their pocket, I would still recommend you getting one, purely because of the fact that Gorilla Glass is vulnerable to SAND and DUST. Sand particles have a very high hardness rating exceeding that of Gorilla glass, so it will carve up your pretty little phone without a care in the world. Simply wiping the screen cover with a cloth that has a particle of sand on it, can scratch the screen, not to mention the original oleophobic coating Samsung put over the Gorilla Glass, which itself is very vulnerable.
I can also vouch for the SGP Ultra Oleophobic Screen Protector. Hands down the best balance of everything a screen protector should have. I've used some no name brands, the Zagg ones as well as the SGP Ultra Crystal one before, and none can compare.
The SGP Ultra Oleophobic beats the Ultra Crystal hands-down simply because it repels oil much better, and can be cleaned with one wipe of a shirt or cloth. On the other hand, the ultra crystal clings to fingerprints and oil like a fat kid to a candy bar.
Both however, exhibit zero rainbow effects, air bubbles or orange peel effects. For about 30 minutes after putting the oleophobic one on, there is a bit of rubbery/slightly sticky feeling on the protector, but it goes away after some use or a bit of cleaning with a microfibre cloth. I'd also recommend not applying the protector on vertically, from speaker to microphone, but rather, from left to right. It is MUCH easier to align this way, and much easier to retry if you messed up the first time.
I've had many people who've played with my phone ask me why I don't bother putting on a screen protector, and when I tell them to look again, they are genuinely surprised they didn't realize it was there.
TL;DR: get a screen protector, because sand (which is actually harder than gorilla glass) and dust can and WILL scratch your screen eventually. also, SGP Ultra Oleophobic beats everything else hands down.
I think Sammy will send the gorilla glass as OTA update when Android Weedcake 2.5.5 hits the market sometime in the distant future.

well well well talk about fate,there is a scratch on the screen and i only put the ultra olephobic screen protector on yesterday initially i thought it was a hair but it's a very small scratch so im even more pleased now i had this on otherwise id have a scratch, thankfully you get 2 screen protectors so i can just replace this one.
I can not believe my eyes when I see that I can actually see scratches on my screen. It only shows up when the screen is oily or fog up. When it is clean, they won't show even under direct light. That got to be some coating getting scratched. Can others provide some insights on that?

yep, welcome to my world, I was being stupid and didn't get a cover for mine...My nexus one lasted for a year after I took off the screen cover with no scratches, I don't know what kind of glass HTC is using now, they say its fortified, it still doesn't mean scratch proof:

we're not sure if amaze is gorilla glass or not, as gorilla says in their FAQ that they do not realease the information of all the phones that have gorilla glass on them...due to agreement between the sellers like HTC. It definitely is fortified glass of some sorts, but yea even gorilla glass gets scratched..
As someone who keeps a single phone for years, I never understood the mentality that says one should have a screen protector. Now hear me out: I understand that the screen protector is supposed to protect the screen from being scratched. If the purpose of not scratching the screen is purely aesthetic, then the screen protector is useless, if not so beyond useless that it becomes an aesthetic liability. Screen protectors are no where near as hard as the combination of glass and coatings that compose the screen itself. Across the useable life of the phone, the thin plastic of a screen protector is much more likely to accumulate scratches than the glass. And so in the end it comes to be that the people who are most concerned about preserving the aesthetics of a mint-condition phone have one that is shrouded by an ugly protective case and a screen protector covered in hundreds of scratches that would not otherwise register on the glass.
But more towards the original concern: whether or not the screen is Gorilla(TM) glass, a similar glass, regular glass, or even pure and impossibly cut diamond, the anti-fingerprint and -reflective coatings sitting atop would not benefit from their scratch-resistant properties. My screen also has this problem. It only shows up when there is significant oil or fingerprints on the screen. I find the latter much more annoying. So I constantly wipe the phone on my pants or sweater and it's back to normal.

I can scratch the "coating" with a new walmart bag. It is just annoying. I am sure htc is using gorilla glass. They used it in their other products. Doesn't make sense they will drop out from that.
I would use a TPU case on the phone because the naked phone is too slippery to hold. Scratches won't affect performance, but dropping it will render the phone non functional.

Point taken but sometimes deep scratches are not aesthetics, its just intrusive to your daily work, so you're better off getting a screen protector, than have a deep scratch in your screen that can cost you a couple of hundred bucks to fix
I had my Hero for about 2 years. I put a screen protector on it right away. After about a month the it looked abolutely terrible. It was marked and scratched and had bubbles. Ugly. I pulled the screen protector off and never put another one on. the screen was as nice the day I sold it as it was the day I bought it. I have no intention of putting a screen protector on my Amaze. The beauty of the screen is, after all, one of the reasons I chose this phone.

Don't make the same mistake I did...you will regret it. I though the same at first. I mean my other phones did fine without screen protectors, but seems like for some reason this screen scratches quick...I'm very careful with my phone and I was suprised to see a deep scratch on it, I had no Idea how!!! just letting you know...I made the same exact mistake and posted the same thing in the accessories section, stated why people were putting screen protectors on their phones, and how it wasn't necessary.

read post 16 and 18 made by me, i thought the same exact thing. even gorilla glass gets scratched , just spend 6 bucks get a boxwave one...at first I didn't like it, thought it was a bit sticky but after using it for a fewe days its smooth as the glass and you don't even notice it AT ALL NowI love it!!! It's exactly like the glass itself!!
Maybe you should mention that in the accessories thread, before people begin to think you still hate Boxwave and then they steer away from it.

Your last is a very good point. I made an oversight. Drop protection cases are useful.

One thing that has really been frustrating me lately is how easy it is to get fingerprints and oil marks on my Galaxy Note screen. It drives me crazy so much that I have gotten in the habit of bring a cloth with me everywhere I go. I have done some searching off and on this site and have found some that claim to be finger print or oil resistant. But nothing compares to referrals from hand on experience. Anybody out there have this frustration, but was able to solve it with a specific screen protector? Is it realistic to expect little to no oil or fingerprints on some screen protectors out there?

Though mine isn't really a screen protector, I am using the lifeproof case for my S8. Have been very happy with it. The screen protector built into the case is already curved so it fits easily. People have complained about issues with the curved part of the touchscreen and responsiveness. I have not experienced this issue at all. I have always had good luck with the Zagg Glass Protector with other phones, not sure how that is with the S8. Something to potentially look at for people.

I see. THe big problem with most of the screen protectors for me was that most of them could not hold to the edges and came off pretty early. So that's a big criteria for a good screen protector. THe one by samsung still covers my whole front after months which is one of the many reasons I like it so much.
Glass protectors are to thick and make the phone too thick in my opionion. But maybe I should give it another shot..
yes but glass protectors are designed to protect your screen in an accident, the normal film ones you have will not protect your screen from accidental damage, i presently have a htc phone with a glass screen protector on it and it has saved my phone many times as the glass screen protector cracked but the screen underneath was unmarked. I know have a samsung s8, i bought two glass screen protectors from amazon uk, the reviews were made by 72 viewers and almost 100%. i fitted the screen protector perfectly and it didnt stick to the curve edges and was very unresponsive to touch , i sent them back for full refund which i got. most importantly most of the reviews are fake reviews, amazon should stop this. ive left my feedback on amazon.
These flimsy plastic screen protectors make no sense to me. Your phone glass is already harder than anything you'll throw into your pocket. The metal on your keys and **** can't scratch your screen anyway and all these would do is protect from scratches by getting scratched themselves.
People want screen protectors to protect from cracking and shattering the phone not to protect from scratches. The screen is already mostly scratch proof unless you're rubbing it up against a pointy edge of some harder glass which I seriously don't think you'd be doing.

I almost feel bad that I underestimated the installation part as I almost wanted to throw the first screen protector I used. If done correctly and patiently, you will have a premium looking phone. Don’t rush it if you don’t want to regret it. So for you guys who are afraid of the “wet installation”, give it a try. I can totally agree with you. In the past, I've always used multiple screen protectors.
I have my S8+ device a bit over a year now and I can see only a micro-scratches, which are invisible in the daily usage.
Besides, what's the point of buying screen protectors for, let's say 50$ and replace them every year? I'd rather save this money and buy sooner the new, fresh model.

There are some disturbing news regarding that 23 ultra have less scratched resistant screen. So victus is more pron to shatter but easily get scratches. As from S1 i never use screen protector and i don't carry my phone in pocket either... I use belt holster... But now i get some anxiety regarding those scratches less resistant...

Well, I have the same problem, After 2 days with my phone I have 3 screen scratches on my phone, and the s22 ultra it's still like in the first day after 1 year... so .. I have just buyed a glass screen protector from Amazon.

Yup. Keys, coins, metal won't scratch phones. Sand or dirt? Absolutely lethal. It's been like this since the dawn of glass screens.
It's the reason why i ave installed the original Samsung S22Ultra screen protector first day on my S23Ultra to no take risques... s22-Ultra screen protector is sheaper and fits perfectly... 15 dollars 2 pieces
I applied a samsung original screen protector on mine the first minute it is out of the box. When buying a phone of this price why not use a screen protector... common.. The samsung original screen protector fits so nice you dont even see or feel it is there. Glass will scratch in your pockets no matter if it is victus 2 or + or +++++x10

With every new phone release you will see threads like this. Glass is not impervious to scratches regardless of the type.
Use a screen protector if you are bothered by micro scratches.

Exactly. Pocket is a cave of danger. I play on dusty softnall diamonds. Dust and dirt everywhere. Can't risk it.
My S22 ultra never had screen protector and I put it in my pocket very often. After 1 year of daily use it has no scratches. Let's hope my new S23 ultra will continue with the same course..
Currently own a S23 Ultra also and have been carrying it around in my pocket, no scratches at all on my side (yet).
But owned a S21 Plus for 2 years as well with no Screen protector at all and it also got scratches in the long run (obviously), don't even notice it when the screen is ON.
And glass is glass after all come on...

Hasn't Samsung offered a S. Care+ plan with a private pocket cleaning assistant always walking by your side and taking care of refreshing your pocket whenever you wish to place your S23U inside of it?

I put my phones in a Spigen Tough Armor every time, I put them in my pockets, and I've never had major issues with screen scratches other than my 12 Pro Max but as long as they're not immediately visible, and don't impact the reading of the screen, I don't really care too much. It's never affected trade in values either.
I refuse to use a screen protector. I haven't done so since like the HTC Mogul days and I'm not going to start now.

i have it in my pocket , but i always keep my phone in my pocket . Maybe i was just unlucky.
But i will start using a screen protector , hopefully it will work with fingerprint scaner.
As for why i use it without protection it´s because I was too excited to use the phone and Samsung sent me only the phone without the case i have preorder in the same time. So i have uset it like this .
But with s22 ultra i did´t have any problem and i use it at least 1 mounth without any protection (case or screen protector)
Anyway the phone is amazing otherwise.

Haven't had a screen protector since the S10+ and had worst unexplained scratches after just one day of babying the phone with a good case on. 4 very visible claw like micro scratches on the lower half. No idea how this happened. Oh well, i guess I just gotta learn to stop sweating this stuff
installed my Spigen neo-flex on my S23 ultra right after I un-boxed it today, I won`t take any chances, I think the Manufacturers are try to make screen that`s too soft to keep it from cracking from drops, that's my opinion , instead of making the glass hard asf and make it more resistance to scratches.

This just doesn't make any sense. The normal scratch testing was done on YouTube already and the finding was that the S23 Ultra screen scratches at the exact same levels as other glass screens. Starts scratching at level 6 with deeper scratches at level 7. It's weird though, for the OnePlus 11 I watched a scratch test where it started scratching at level 5 and it's using the same Victus on the S21 Ultra, which wasn't shown to scratch that easily either.
Yeah I'm not sure how that is, I'm sure it may be more shatter proof but it seems softer because of that. The year old S22U i traded in, the screen was almost mint, no screen protector since it launched
