HTC did the same when promising the HC upgrade. They used a Twitter account to make that statement.
Now, half a year later, and without Honeycomb, the support department states "Yeah, but that was only a Twitter statement, not a real promise..."
Draw your own conclusions.
Yep, really dissapointing. HC was announced to be ready short after the Flyer is available. So far nothing at all. Now ICS is in the pipe...and the story begins again...that's boring and customer unfriendly. Instead of realeasing one device after another would be good to see some customer care from HTC.
It would be very interesting to see if we get any update to whatever at all on the Flyer.

Even though there is no solid proof we'll most likely get it. HTC has always been good with updates and most HTC devices should get ICS. You may say "ohhhhh THEY DID NOT GIVE US HC!!!" However there is obvious proof they were trying and ICS should be easier since it's meant for both Tablets and Phones.

That isn't true. When I had my HTC Tattoo they also promised an update too 2.1. Never came!!!
I am hoping that even if HTC does not officially support ICS that some group will put a rom together for us.

The fact that the Jetstream is not on the list either gives me some hope as well. Surely their first HC tablet is capable of the ICS upgrade, so my feeling is they are not addressing tablets with the phones. Anyway, here's to hoping they both ge teh good news soon...
By the way, this guys list has been debunked again. The Desire HD is on his list but not on HTC's FaceBook list.

Also, this should give you a glimpse of the chaos ICS updates will cause.
Announcement recently by Motorola (purchased by Google) VP of Software Development Ruth Hennigar, saying "that it hasn't even gotten the source code of Android Ice Cream Sandwich yet, let alone started to do something with it. It will be up to six months, she said, before ICS becomes widely available on devices".

It kinda makes me wonder about when ICS will drop. Seems pretty random to send an email asking you to check for updates. Makes me hopeful...but still doubtful as to when.
Are you running 2.3.3? Maybe that's why they sent you that

Typically, their monthly emails are "discover more things to do with your phone" type of deal. This is the first one mentioning updates. Kind of got me excited for 5 seconds, and disappointed for much longer.

Right, that's kind of how I took it. I usually get these emails for 3 different devices. My 3d, daughters OG and my wife's BB. The only time I recall seeing one stating to check for system update, was when one was available, for my wife's BB. Just got me hopeful was all.
Edit-one other thing just came to mind. I have the feeling it may be important to run ICS with some of the newer firmware updates from 2.17. So perhaps this is another way to prep people (general public) to update, prior to Sprint pushing out ICS in a few months?

the mid jan update included the new adreno drivers, while others(att verizon etc)waited for ics to update thier phones drivers.(im sure its because they knew our ics update would be late) anyways im sure this email is to remind people to update to get the mid jan update, i bet they get alot of complaints about the evo 3d under performing and the last update made this phone scream compared to before

I'd like to think that too, but I seriously doubt it. Why would Sprint want to release an update to ICS for last year's phone right before they release this year's phones? It doesn't make business sense. When they release next year's phones, sprint stores will get a lot more traffic in and out of them, and the 3D can't be catching people's eyes still because it's on the cutting edge, it has to appear outdated, at least while sprint is dealing with the new phone rush.
When I bought my 3D, the epic 4g touch was out for about a month or two. The employee who "helped" me pick out a phone was straight up lying to me (maybe she really just had no clue, but then why was she employed at a sprint store?). I was told that the 3D was a slow, outdated, single core phone, 1 ghz processor, and she overexaggerated the epic touch's specs as well. Glad I did my research because she was worthless.
I'm not gonna jump on the nexus and one bandwagon quite yet, this phone is plenty powerful for me right now.
Hello all thanks for stopping by. I have recently moved and settled to a new area and I bought my wife's and my phone straight out so we can switch at any time (or kill the contract if we moved outta the country). My android phones thus far have been the htc hero, lg optimus s, and the evo 3D. I got the evo 3d last june because I thought that it'd be like the original (tons of support, the next big thing, a crap ton of of mods). Little did I know that they would keep a lot of the drivers closed sourced and we as a community would have a few fantastic deves but would also run devs away (not just talking about the kernel devs over the past year quite a few have dropped by then been bashed and left). So my big question to everyone and indeed what I am pondering is.... Jump to a SIII as HTC and Sprint abandoned us or give HTC another shot? Both phones will have the same processor but im worried about samsung's build quality ...however I dont want htc to get my money blindly .... or i can just wait...? I dunno ...lol what is everyone else's thoughts?

Ya know what? Screw HTC!!! I only got the 3d cuz I knew, or at least thought, it would be getting ics. Turns out, now I'm in the us on Sprint mind u, that I really don't think that's going to happen anymore and I'm not going to sit around and wait. Yeah I could've downgraded hboot and rooted but I just thought intentionally bricking my device was absolutely foolish and didn't trust it. So I got the gsII and within min was running a fully rooted Sprint ics leak so easily my 3 yr.old could've done it! And with the size of this screen, the super amoled display, and speed, and boy do I mean speed of.this device, I will never, ever, buy another HTC device again! Just my two cents lol!

Sprint is the issue. They are the final step before ICS is released. Follow the order: Google releases Android to the manufacturer > HTC tweaks it an adds Sense > HTC sends to carrier. HTC is not necessarily the blame here. There is a few threads dedicated to the speculation of the ICS release. IMO, it's still coming, but, just from the timing of things, they most likely delayed it so as not to conflict with the release of their new flagship, EVO 4G LTE (pushing more people to upgrade to that).
With the amount of reading and diving in to other forums because people ask me about their phones or I have actually rooted their phones, I prefer HTC phones regardless of the Evo 3D's lack of official ICS ROM (even though there is a VM leak and three ports available for it, one of those ports is a fully functional HTC Sense 3.5, which is what I am running) and the HBOOT 1.5 [email protected] (even though it's also mentioned that having HBOOT 1.5, rooted, S-ON and recovery 4EXT is the way to go).
I prefer the Sense interface. It's my preference. I love the ease of rooting (in most circumstances). I've had my experience of rooting a Samsung Captivate. It was eh. It was easy to root, but, when it came to custom stuff, just eh.

GPS works fine. My wife prefers Samsungs and has the GSII. We've used her GPS several times around Savannah, GA and locally where we live and around Atlanta with no issue. Actually performed better than my Evo 3D at times.
It's more about what you like. I've had the hero, og evo, and now 3d. I still have a epic 4g I got for Christmas and my experience wasn't all that great with it until cm came along. I despise touchwiz although its getting better. Sense does make HTC phones run a little slower cause its a resource hog, but I just love sense. I suggest looking at both and deciding on what you are more comfortable with. Both the s3 and evo lte are great

HTC or Samsung GIII
I'd have to, IMO, that the HTC is worth staying with HTC. I too thought about switching over to the SGIII but in the end, I'm going to stick it out with HTC, as the EVO 3D was my first HTC device and I will say I'm a little disappointed with their support of the device. I'll give them another chance with the EVO 4G LTE and see what happens. After all, I plan on being a smart phone user for way more than the standard 2 yr contract and will switch devices in the future if need be.
HTC has great devices and I can't stand hearing "3d will not get ics"
It's been confirmed. There are processes that have to be done before it will be out. I have seen new phones coming out with ics yes, but how many older devices have gotten officially updated yet. My buddy with T-Mobile who still hasn't seen his update. People just don't have any patience. If your on xda u have the ability to run ics. Either do it or wait.

Hello people of XDA,
I have had my tbolt since release date and always loved it and never had any problems with it, the 2 years is up and I don't know what to do, I want to get a new phone but there's none that a really want, I'm still playing the waiting game for fully working ics on tbolt but, I'm sick of waiting, what do u people think I should, get a new phone, or wait to see what HTC suprises Verizon with?

Shop around for what you're interested in.
I personally still love my tbolt and am not really interested in anything else yet either.
If you have unlimited data, I would stick with the tbolt for right now. Things should get more interesting once ICS is released and we get some new ROMs.

Exactly Ray, I said the same thing months ago! I said unless we speak out HTC will let the phone go. Also I said HTC would be smart to release an update between now and April of next year as April (for Sprint many will get update on 1/1/14) before their contact ends so they have faith in HTC. Seems they are finally starting to listen. Now if they would put a removable battery and microSD card slot I would give them a second chance. But the battery on my EVO LTE is already starting to go (take it off the charger with no use and an hour later I'm at 90%). and it will only get worse. And the only way to fix it is to spend a lot of money to open and change. Where if I get the SGS4 or Note 3 I simply have to pickup a battery online and pop it in and it's like I have a new phone! I could deal with a 32GB phone with no microSD but I need the removable battery! You listening HTC?!

You can order a new battery for about 17 dollars shipped and it's actually pretty easy to replace yourself. But I really doubt this phone will ever get 4.3. Why would they skip 4.2 for 4.3. There is not a lot of compelling features in 4.3 vs 4.2. 4.2 now is much better than 4.3 later. HTC is just trying to save face because everyone just realized they orphaned the phone so early. Mark my words 4.3 will never come. They are just trying to make it to a time when less people will be vocal about the phone being orphaned. **** HTC for life.

I honestly won't ever get another HTC if we don't at least get 4.2 with Sense 5! Also skipping 4.2 for 4.3 is the normal and what everyone's doing since it's only minor changes..
