Correct me if I'm wrong but u don't need any app or .apk for in general.
I would confirm the post before, to change kernel (if no connection anyway, it's maybe a Rom based problem) and then connect it to phone and to must see "Usb Storage" in Explorer.
Much success &

some times unmounting the same will be an issue and i also had the same, after using that app the issue resolved for me,hence that suggestion ma8

Siyah
Just try Siyah kernel, it worked for me when I had the same issue.

Hmm ok.
Thought it's most only a kernel or Rom prob.
Good to know, even if I never had it
But anyway I'm sure a new Kernel (f.ex. Siyah/Dorimanx/N.E.A.K.) should fix this
CHEERS

I tried out with another cable and it works now. Still using Fluxxi kernel, it seems more user friendly for a noob like me.
But i dont know how to safelly remove the flash drive
I use stickmount apk, i select unmount. It says unmounted all drives, but when i pull out the flash drive it says "Usb ejected unexpectedly". How could I fix this?

bump?

I just installed Resurrection Remix ics v2.4.1 and now I cannot access external_sd. However, I can see my files in CWM and when plugged into computer. Help appreciated. I tried rescan media app and not working too.. It just wont scan external_sd.
Well people say CM9 is more faster than AOKP. And I too feel the same

That is because in aokp/aosp the external sd card is not mounted as external_sd, it is mounted as emmc.
Use root explorer or similar and browse to root and look for the emmc folder, the files should be in there.

Cannot connect to Kies with [CM10] 2012-10-06 Kernel and 20120716 Gapps Jelly Bean

Just installed the [CM10] 2012-10-06 JB Kernel and 20120716 JB Gapps, very stable.
One issue I have now is connecting to Kies. Although my computer does recognize the device, and I can access the internal drive from the windows explorer. However, Kies does not connect at all.
I am not sure if Kies actually rely on some kind of Samsung App Store to be running on the phone, however, that seems not possible with the Unofficial JB firmware. As there is no Samsung App store for it as I know of.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks
same problem...
even flashing CM10 build 20121009 with experimental siyah kernel does not solve the problem ~_~
so no luck with the build of the last couple of days...
would be great if this could be fixed by just installing some kind of "Samsung magic Kies app", but doubt that
From what I know, Samsung Kies do not work with custom ROMs.
You will need to go back to the stock ROM. I am not too use if Touchwiz-based ROM will work with Kies or not.
But, if you just want USB mass storage access, just search for "enabling USB mass storage". It is a very simple fix.

it works with the odexed blue rom for sprint. yes I know this isnt sprint forum but I have the same issue and came here via a google search
Kies will not recognize many rooted roms, and some stock rooted roms due too the presence of privileged commands.

They can see the device firmware changes.....g
Have you tried
Doubletwist is a great app if you like the way that iTunes works then you will like doubleTwist. It works decent enough with CM10. Also if you can't get it to recognize your device get the AirSync app it worked like a charm for me.
Hi All
I faced same problem. i don't care about Kies but my problem i made my Contacts. SMS and call log backup using kies before i update to CM.
How i can restore them.i have the Back up files but kies not working???

[Q] wifi tethering

Im trying to setup wifi tethering on the x10mp (phone 3G->wifi to a laptop).
I've tried Barnacle (laptop failed to connect to phone), and "wifi tether for root users" (two apps), but both gave an error message that the kernel is missing some components.
has anyone got some wifi tethering app to work on x10mp? and if so, which one and how?
TIA

If you are on stock SE firmware, even if you have rooted your phone, Wifi tethering wont work for you, as the stock firmware does'nt support tethering. Here is a link with a list of tutorials and custom ROMs (I think all ROMs from android 2.3 support tethering):
forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1588192
The easiest way would be to install xrecovery on your stock kernel (you'll find one under "stock kernel based custom ROMs) and then flash a GingerBread(2.3) ROM via xrecovery.
Please press thanks if I helped .
Tnx.
Im using the stock SE ROM.
Kernel 2.6.29
Firmware 2.1-update1
Any chance I could get wifi tethering working w/o installing a custom ROM?

Don't be afraid of flashing Roms in stock kernel, its simplicity itself. If you have already rooted your phone, here's a quick how-to:
1.Download stericson's busybox from the market & install newest version (currently 1.20.2, I think)
2.Download the zip file in this post
3.Download script manager from the market.
4. Extract the files onto your sdcard so that you find the files "chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar, readme.txt, installer" in sdcard/download/xrecovery.
5.Open script manager, give superuser permissions (tick 'browse as root' on first startup), navigate to the folder you extracted and run 'installer' as root (tip on the superuser symbol on the top left corner. When activated, it should be green).
6.Download the Rom you want to flash onto your sdcard, a link you'll find in my earlier post(only choose from stock kernel based roms)
7.Reboot.
8. When the SE logo appears, press back button quickly several times. You will boot into xrecovery.
9.Make a backup via xrecovery.
10.wipe data via xrecovery and install your downloaded rom, surprise, via xrecovery.
11.reboot&enjoy!

Looking forward to the files you've mentioned.
1. Can I create a backup of the current kernel & ROM (the SE stock ones which the phone arrived with)?
In case something breaks during the process, I could hopefully revert to these.
2. Can I get the wifi tethering functionality without updating the kernel, only by installing a new ROM?
When I tried the "wifi tether for root users" app it showed an error message that the kernel is missing some components.
Xrecovery
So, here is the zip.
PS: All credits go to the guys in the following link (quangnhut123), he uploaded the files, I only wrote the installer script .

Change in step 4:
4. Extract the files onto your sdcard so that you find the files "chargemon, busybox, xrecovery.tar, readme.txt, installer" in sdcard/download/xrecovery.
Yes, you are able to restore your previous system via an xrecovery backup.
Please press thanks if this worked for you. If it didn´t please tell me what went wrong, I will fix asap.
NOTE: I havn't tested this yet, because I havn't had time to reflash & root my X10 MP. As said above, if it doesn't work, I will fix .
When I used the stock ROM, I used brancle for wifi tethering, It worked. Unfortunately, I do not remeber the exact settings. But I'm sure, It works.

What about my question regarding the kernel? as I mentioned, when I tried the other tethering app, the error it displayed was that the kernel is missing some components. so If I use the stock kernel, and only install a new ROM, will this still allow wifi tethering, or do I need to flash a new kernell as well?

Well, I don't think your kernel is missing components, that would
1. Disprove the links in your post and
2. Disprove what tommy posted.
Also, I'm pretty sure that when I was on Minicm7Pro (with stock kernel), I had wifi tethering.
PS.: Bro, if you are using your browser for posting and you are logged in, there's a "Thanks"-button on the bottom left of every post, or if you are using the android app, just click on a post and the option thanks (danke) will appear. Pressing this will for one thing be easier than writing thanks in a new post, and also, many people like it when their thanks meter goes up and will thank you in return.
PPS.: If you alredy know all that and I've just made a fool of myself, sorry . Besides, I'm just testing the method I described myself, I'll give you feedback as soon as everything works .

First of all, did the script work (yet)? Have you tried it yet? Sorry, I havn't tested yet, but I will do so today.
Secondly, MiniCM7pro always worked well for me, but if you like the stock SE style, try SonyStyle by the same developer.

Actually, I remembered, that i can simply see the settings in my wife's mini, which is with the stock ROM, and uses Brancle. I just tried it, works flawlessly. The phone is only rooted, nothing more. Here are the settings:
SSID - elka
BSSID - empty
Wireless encyption - five low-case letters, no numbers, no symbols, for example - abcde, ASCII encoding
Channel - 6
Custom Wifi Ad-hoc - none
Skip wpa_supplicnat - not checked
Auto Associate - not checked
Accsess control - not checked
New client actions - Notify (checked), Sound - Play a ringtone, Light - empty, Allow - empty
Local mode - checked,
DHCP - Gw - 192.168.5.1, Mask - 255.255.255.0, First Host - 100, Lease time - 1200 sec, DNS1 and 2 - empty
NAT - leave everything default
WAN- rmnet0
LAN - empty
What do you mean when you say "laptop failed to connect to phone" - tries, but can't get address, or nothing happens? If nothing happens, try to press the "Associate" button.
I remember, that there was something strange with the password - make it as simple as you can. If it is not working, try temporarily to disable encryption.
I cannot tell the version of Brancle I am using, but Market doesn't offer me an update, so it must the latest one, at least for the stock x10 mini with stock ROM. If you know how to check it - tell me, i will do it.
And something else - check the security settings of the laptop - are the Ad-Hoc networks and WEP encryption allowed? Brancle makes Ad-hoc only, not infrastructural.
Good luck!
EDIT/
As I see from market, the version of Brancle is 0.6.7 (evo)

Im using linux (debian), with network manager, which should be able to connect to an adhoc network,

Impossible to use USB Mass Storage

Hello,
I've got a problem since a while.
I've never had any problems to use my phone as a USB Mass Storage device but now it's totally impossible.
When i plug my phone on my computer I tap in the notification bar on "USB connected" ("connecté par USB") and on "Activate USB Mass Storage".
At that time my phone reboots without possibilities to use my phone as a usb key.
For information, I've been truing with and without USB Debugging, I had format my SD card several times, I tried with a differrent SD Card.
Nothing works. My only solution is to use MTP or PTP which is not a good solution for me.
I haven't found any similar problem in the threads, then if someone can help me...
Thank you by advance.

Nightly builds are not the same as "Stable". Maybe its a some kind of kernel bug in this case. Try another build as i mentioned before. Read and search CM thread for "usb mass storage".

[Q] USB connection to PC

It just stopped working. When I plug into PC, it just says it's charging? No idea what I could have done. I even tried restoring my backed up stock rom, but that made no difference. Tried two different PC's. What settings should I look for? Can I get to it via reboot, and pressing something. I seem to remember one time when my phone wouldn't boot, that I still had USB access.

If you have CWM installed then yes, you *should* be just fine. In mounts and storage menu, the last option i think is "mount USB storage" and it will show up in windows as removable storage then. If this doesn't work I can guess two things, one, your cable only has the power pins still connected, and not data. So try another cable. Or, on the USB connector inside your phone its not connecting both data pins, only power.
Should be able to visually check for damage to the micro usb port. Best of luck.

not if there is an option to enable storage, I haven't used twrp in forever, so I can't tell you definitively. You could download CWM on your device and flash it in TWRP though.

According to google TWRP does have an option to mount usb storage, have you tried seeing if windows can recognize your phone storage in recovery?
An alternative solution could be to use a shared folder in windows and ES file explorer to connect to that share, and send and receive files that way, so at least you have some ability to manage the device. *through WiFi on the phone to the LAN that your PC is on*
I would suggest deleting all the drivers for your device in windows but you already said you tried on a second computer. I'm stumped on this one at the moment.

Thanks for the suggestions. So far, none have worked. I wonder if there is an android app, that can check if the usb ports are working or not?
I had the same problem on SlimBean, Beanstalk and maybe another I can't remember. Switching to dvhexer's CM 10.2 fixed it. I THINK my problem was that those other ROMs require the phone to have been on stock 4.1.2 before flashing and dvhexer's CM 10.2 doesn't. I'm not sure, but that seems likely to me. In any case, make a backup of your current ROM and flash CM 10.2 to see if that fixes the issue. I really like Beanstalk but the ability to connect to my PC is vital to me so I'm on 10.2 for now. Hope this helps.

Have the same problem :/ it randomly happened to me, haven't found any sort of fix.
I think I'm going to go back to stock, take it to a service center and say, "it aint workin". Still under warranty. Doubt they'll do much snooping if it appears to be running stock Rom.
Can you even flash back to stock? I tried flashing it once and it wouldn't boot, completely wiped everything and reinstalled and it still wouldn't boot, so I'm stuck on custom roms apparently with no connection to pc so no lgnpst possible
