Anyone else notice the little red LED on the left side? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

So I just got off the phone with my girlfriend, I'm hitting the hay early tonight, waiting for her to get home and she just called me so I put it on speaker.
Then I noticed there is a faint little red LED on the left side of the phone right above the screen, it went away when the call ended but I never noticed it before.
I know the OG EVO 4G had 2 LEDs, CM made the second one useful, but idk about the 3d or other evo phones.
I should note i am in a pitch black room and this led is about 1/3 of the size of the notification led. Also is extremely dim, almost looks like a red circle.
Kind of cool
Wondering if anyone else has noticed it

I thought thats the proximity sensor.
Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

yup it's the proximity sensor. Put your hand on it and the screen should shut off

Idk wish ibcould get it brighter and working with notifications, I know that's not how leds work though (the brightness and all)

It's not even an LED in the sense you want to use it as.

Ohhh thats what that does, thats kind of cool, thanks guys, ill find some way to screw around with it, turning my screen on and off.
Edit: now you guys have got me calling people and voicemail just to play withthe sensor.

If you're going nuts over a proximity sensor I don't even want to know how you are going to react when jelly bean drops.

Haha I know, I've been like this since my og evo. I flash new roms and kernals every day, always flashing new apps, trying new things until they break my phone... Then I start over, I'm not necessarily a noob at this stuff, just finally decided to make an account here on xda.

Q: Thunderbolt Screen Colors

I'm a new Thunderbolt owner coming from the Evo, and it seems as though the colors on the TB are less vibrant than my Evo. The whites seem as though they are muted a bit or have a purple-ish gray tone to them. Anyone else notice this?
Thx
Sent from my ADR6400L using XDA Premium App
Your screen is either messed up, or you aren't seeing things clearly. If your TB looks worse than your EVO I would take it back and request a new one.
Right on, thanks...
Is it possible that it's not one of the Samsung screens, I have heard the new ones HTC has are not as bright?
I will take it to the store tomorrow if anything, for piece of mind..

Maybe you're just looking for things that are wrong with it? I don't know. I came from a droid so it's a big improvement for me.
The thunderbolts screen uses warm color settings.

Thanks! That helps... I'm not looking for anything wrong with it at all, I just want to be sure that I don't have a defective one, because while in the store the rep had a hell of a time getting the sim card to take and give me 3G.
Also, I wanted to make sure it was good before I root it...

Samsung are S-AMOLED, which is LED and is brighter and more vibrant than LCD.
You sure it's not just the auto brightness dimming the screen?

Or if you have one of those anti fingerprint screen protectors it will greatly diminish screen quality and brightness

How many notification Leda's are there? The evo had two but only one was ever used with stock rom.

I would like to know the answer to this also. It seems like there is just one and it sucks that it doesnt flash when charging. I have been using noled app for when it is charging but it is not compatible with nolock.
Do not quote me on this but I think there is one on the other side look at the speaker grill at angles you can kind of see a circular outline on the edge. I'm also nearly blind and may just be seeing things.

that has to be either the light sensor or the proximity sensor.
That is the proximity sensor
Sent from my 3rd Dimension of Evolution
Actually the EVO 3D uses the same crappy light/proximity combo sensor as the original EVO, the Capella 3602. It's the one to the left of the earpiece grill. I'm not 100% sure what is in the left side of the earpiece grill (although I'm positive it's not a proximity sensor- makes no sense putting a proximity sensor directly behind another object). I'm still holding out hope that there are dual LEDs like the original EVO, but we likely won't get confirmation until after we get root.

true, but hasn't someone disassembled the phone? i mean thats the quickest way i can think of. and if it is an LED what the hell would it be used for?
Not 100% sure, but I thought it was a LED as well. I could have swore it activated when I was doing the OTA update.
Yes, they did a tear down here: http://tucci999.imgur.com/evo_3d_teardown
But I can't really tell from the pictures. Can anyone confirm?

Yea, but it was never enabled by HTC. I believe CM first implemented. HTC just had an unused led hiding there. Eventually someone (i think noxious ninja) made an app to utilize the other led while on sense roms. It would indeed be nice to have it on the 3d as well.

Search Button Half Lit On Boot Up

Discaimer: I'm apologizing in advance of this seems like a stupid question or post.
I noticed that my search button partly illuminates when I first turn on my phone if it's completely off. Once the phone is fully booted and my home screen comes on all of the other buttons light up properly as well as the search button.
It just seems a little odd, but isn't causing any problems. Anyone else have this? I'm just hoping it's not a sign of potential hardware problems. (Yes I have insurance but enjoy full root with hboot 1.4)

Mine too. I was always kinda curious about whether it was common or not, but it never really bothered me too much
Yes, its normal. They should have got that fixed before finalizing this model.
Via My HTC Evo 3D On The Now Network From Sprint.
Mine is the same way as well. It's a light leakage. If I use one of the kernels with dim LEDs, my buttons look like ass because of this. Most people can lower their value to 2 (in ..../button-backlight/currents), while I can only lower mine to 14 before it starts looking dumb.
Mine is most prominent when in recovery. Only time I notice it.

I've noticed this too. It does make the phone look like crap when the LEDs are off.
It's light "bleed" from the screen to the search button. it most visible in recovery, probably because your screen is completely white and it's easy to see the white light bleed.
Kinda sad that HTC didn't fix this issue before releasing the phone.. Cheap internal build quality, perhaps?
I think it may be due to the fact that they used some sort of clear plastic to put together the inside. If you open the batterycover you can see what I'm talking about.

I got it too and my phone is a recently assembled device on one of the latest h boot builds. Doubt this will be fixed so i guess we live with it...
Same with me I thought only i have that issue.
Seems like HTC did a bad job in this area. I also have hardware build 0002 so I guess it's an issue with that build.

Question about display drivers

I'm really debating switching to the Amaze from the GS2 due to the horrible screen issue the Qualcomm S2 has due to the video drivers being emulated from the Exynos version. Im guessing the Amaze's drivers are made for it right?
Other than that, the things that concern me about the Amaze are the light bleed from the capacitive buttons and random reboots/shutdowns. I know the button issue can be resolved by turning them off, but wouldn't it be hard to see/use them in the dark? How prominent are the shutdowns/reboots? Anything else I should be concerned about? I'm coming from a G1 so I keep my phones awhile
Edit: Just realized there is no S-OFF either. What limitations does this produce compared to a device with S-OFF?

I've never had a reboot or bootloop. Just make sure you read and follow instructions. Light bleed apparently varies from device to device. Mine is noticeable but only on dark background and I actually think it looks cool. Call me weird :/ I've never had an issue really, other than the backcover and case preventing me to get a great WiFi signal. I haven't tried the foil trick. Also, the back cover makes a plastic creeking noise, but a thin folded piece of paper back there fixes it. Sounds kind of ghetto for a high end phone, but the camera and display are great in my opinion and the radio gets great service. There are some good ROMs and its a fast sexy phone. I like it.

had an s2 as well, had the bad screen and sent it back. jumped ship to the amaze and build wise, i think its a better crafted device. had to return 2 of em, but my 3rd one is on point. havent used it enough to give a better opinion, but so far i like it alot better. go for it
My wife has the gs2 and I can't stand that thing. Crappy screen and touchwiz kill it for me. I love my amaze.

I came from the Gs2 about 2 weeks ago. And I have the light bleed but it's not terrible. Haven't had any random reboots or anything. Build quality is head over heels better than the gs2. Also firs in the pocket better. I love this phone and don't regret the switch one bit. Can't wait to root it andget to flashing.

or it can also be the fact that on my incredible i had cm7 and had torch which pushed the leds to their limit and made them really hot but i just loved that flashlight helped out when i needed to look for something in the dark
again, as a.mcdear pointed out - this is a 100% hardware capability thing. while some software might not set the same brightness levels in settings, the limits are the limits of the hardware.

Sure, and you can hook them up to a car battery and they will explode, but that does not mean that another app can miraculously cause the hardware to deliver more power to the Flash LEDs. The fact is that the torch setting on any app is probably already using the maximum brightness that the hardware is capable of.
Snowman is not making things up. The nexus torch on the Incredible would overpower both LEDs at once for a crazy bright light. When I would run non-CM7 ROMs on my Incredible, I always looked for an alternative app that did the same thing, but never could. Most could only run one of the two LEDs. If they could light both at once, they were not overpowered.

Yeah the torch app on the incredible was so bright that every time you turn it on it had a warning popup saying not to leave it on long because it would melt **** lol
No offense, but if having a bright flashlight is really this important to you, why not just get an actual flashlight?
Otherwise, if you're in a pinch and just need a quick light, the rezound is definitely bright enough for illuminating a dark area (like putting your keys in the car door in an unlit parking lot)
I still have my incredible (gf uses it actually) so I know how bright that app is.
What I was saying is that the rezound is clearly capable of the same bright flashlight as the incredible. The incredible one turns on the leds as if to flash while taking a picture but keeps the lights on. I see no reason why the rezound could not do the same. Now do I know how to get that working at the moment - no. But I'm interested enough to do some research and I'll post what I find.
