Hi there..
I have the t-mobile G2 TOUCH, hero that is, and I cant seem to find out how I could change the ringtone for my notifications.
The thing is. When I change it like it should normaly work, it keeps on giving me the lousy and way to loud t-mobile notification sound.
when i receive a mail it does give the chosen sound, but when i receive a text message it gives me the **** t-mobile tone again.
I did i guess everything i could (to getting the maps on the root for ringtone, alarm and notifications. I can see the files, but like i said before, i only hear them on my email receiving and not my text messages.
anyone familiar with this problem and if so, got an answer, or should i go back to the store and swap the fone now it is still possible...
thnx
The message tone is different to the notification tone. Go to messages - menu - settings - sound and change it there.
you most definetly are my hero
alsmost returned the poor thing haha
i never guessed that nor would i have found that one!
many thanks
Your welcome
Guys, this is really annoying me so any chance of a little help please...
Today I received a notification of new 'Voicemail'.
I didn't know the number (hate it when this happens as there is a charge every time you listen to the message).
As it happens the message wasn't for me but I was still charged to listen to it.
Anyway, if that is not enough what is annoying is the voicemail notification simply will not go away from the top bar.
Every time I reboot the phone it first starts to play out loud the voicemail notification and the only way to terminate it is to pull down the notification bar.
Thing is what's further annoying is no matter what I do I can not remove the voicemail icon and notification from the top bar.
When I click to listen to the voicemail it simply tells me I don't have any outstanding voicemail so I then hang up but the notification will not go away.
I have been to the T-Mobile web site obviously there is nothing there and on the phone I have dialled 150 Option 4, 1, 1 which is meant to stop voicemail (I think).
Help please..... It is driving me crazy.
I also want to know
It drives me crazy
I am with fido and I have a voicemail notification and it does not want to go away
I erased the phone 2-3 times, I left a message in my voicemail and then I deleted
no matter what I do the notification is there.
I tried the same with my nexus one and atrix but I dont have any notification.
It seems to be the phone itself
Just a long shot, but have you got a txt message that relates to having a voice mail, if so try deleting?

Well, in a weird sort of way I am pleased I am not the only one who is having this issue (apologies prince_72). It shows the problem is not isolated to either my phone or some form of settings.
In answer to morg01 ~ no... as a protection to my profession once I have received and actioned any text messages they are deleted. So it can not be a previous message that is the cause.
If the blessed thing has not disappeared come Monday I will speak with T-Mobile to ask if they have an answer.
However, I think they will most probably point me either to here or here but all these do is terminate voicemail, not handle notification.
I'm hoping it is something as simple as their system that is reactivating the notification despite the fact the last one I received I deleted.
We'll see.
I had this issue along with the com.android.phone crashing issue and they just switched my phone out in the shop. It might be time for a replacement?

Time for a replacement! That's a bit harsh.
In all other manner the phone works absolutely perfectly.
I have the issue too, I don't have carrier vm set up (i use g voice) but I forgot to set up voice after doing a wipe and got a vm. It asks me for a password that doesn't exist and wont let me delete the notification.
I dont think a replacement is a solution.
This is a software problem and I think the problem has to do with the software
implementation of the voicemail implementation.
If I put my Fido sim card to my Nexus one or Motorola Atrix I dont get the voicemail notification.
Also just to reply to morg01 I do get text messages along with the voicemail notification at the status bard but I delete the text messages I receive.
The problem is how to remove the voicemail notification.
I have a feeling that the Baseband implementation is wrong.
I got the phone from Europe and I dont think it supports the special features from Fido.
Just to mention that I dont have Name Display as well.
I would have to wait for the Canadian version to appear and to flash the modem
but until I wait that I will be really happy to remove that stupid ugly notification
I've been using Google Voice for the last 6 months. It's not always perfect, but you can read a transcript of your mail. And it's free and reversable.

Finally I fixed the notification problem
My carrier (FIDO) has two voicemail systems. One is for Iphone with the visual voicemail and the second is the reset of phones.
I used to have the second. It seems Galaxy S II does not really work ok with the more standard. The CSR switched me over to the visual voicemail and now everything works ok.

Nice one.... That proves it's a carrier issue.
I'm hoping to get to the bottom of my problem tomorrow.
This may be something really simple or not but when someone sends me a mms i get a beep telling me ive received a message but its still downloading so i get another beep once its downloaded and shown. Anyway of turning that first notification off? Im getting annoyed picking my phone up and then waiting, id rather it just downloaded and then gave me one notification.
Im using handcent but happens on stock too. Is it a feature? Cos i cant find a way of turning that first notification off.
anybody?..
For some reason while i'm on a call, if i get a text or sms message, the message alert tone goes off at full volume on phone speaker, deafening myself and even the person on the other end of the call can hear it.
On my old captivate it made an alert tone through the ear piece notifying me of a text message, not via the loud speaker.
is there a way to change this? i've searched the forum for similar complaints but found none... thanks for any reply.
anybody have any ideas?

AHH gr8hairy1... you have shed some good light on this for me. I've never even went into Settings/Call before. Thanks for your time and reply.
Indeed.

I have a strange problem with my S3 since the JB update.
I have unbranded UK BTU stock, never rooted.
Whenever I am talking on the phone and receive a message the phone vibrates in my ear. This didn't happened on JB. I tried turning off the Messaging vibrate setting, that solved the problem partially because the phone would never vibrate when receiving a message.
Bellow are my settings:
Call settings->Call alert->Call Vibrations all unchecked; Alerts on call unchecked
Message settings->Vibrate checked
Settings->Sound->Sound and vibration unchecked
I would like my phone to act as it did on JB, notify me during a call when receiving a message through a sound and to vibrate+ when receiving a message when not talking on the phone.
Are there any other setting that I am missing?
Thanks.
Are you using a 3rd party app??
Go sms or similar??
