I have only upgraded my current Android from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 have not done factory reset/wipe data.
Use stock kernel, don't use a custom kernel yet on stock ics 4.0.4.
Edit: Bdw, you should've posted in the Q and A section.

Just flash it again and don't flash another kernel. Use the one which came with the rom.

You're wrong. Stock kernel causes problems in lekaed software (LQ5, LPM) and also brings eMMC hardbrick bug.
Get back to 4.0.3 and wait for official 4.0.4.

You're right and wrong. You're right that it causes brick bug and you're wrong because in stock kernel, camera, video etc works perfectly. If you flash the current custom kernels now it causes the blank camera, videos won't show etc.

Right. I was just explaining it was caused by flashing a custom kernel not made specifically for 4.0.4 but for 4.0.3.

Thanks everyone for your prompt help and support.
I got the same problem here. but I update from 4.0.3 to 4.0.4 via samsung kies officially. So, how am I going to downgrade it back to 4.0.3? please advice. I have tried wipe data/factory reset.
You have to re-install 4.0.3 there is no other option available, download Android 4.0.3 from http://samsung-updates.com/ and install it freshly. I did the same to get 4.0.3 back on my smartphone.
On the 4.0.4 flash latest siyah kernel

I am familiar with flashing. I had the LG Optimus LTE before this and flashed quite a few roms, This phone however has me awfully confused. I have been researching all day. And so far i am under the understanding that the touch cwm are not good and the use the 4.0.1.5 recovery. But what i don't understand is how do you install roms without wiping data/factory reset through cwm? don't most roms require this? and isn't that what causes the superbrick? Sorry for sounding like a noob. but can you tell me how you do your flashing?

Just use a different kernel, like siyah (www.gokhanmoral.com and make it's for the s2 not s3). Then you can wipe data. Just didn't not be on 4.0.4, and have a samsung based kernel (the kernel dev should have info in the op). Once you're on a safe kernel you can flash whatever you want and wipe data.

Yes I wiped data, cache and dalvik cache. Couldn't get into recovery so i just re-flashed my firmware via odin. All is good now and successfully flashed cm9 with no issues. Must have been a bug in the rom.
This is my first post and i was wondering if people could answer some questions i have.
First off heres my phones specs
Samsung galaxy s2
Model number
GT-I9100
Android version
4.0.3
Baseband version
I9100XXLPQ
Kernel version
3.0.15-I9100XXLPQ-CL223505

Build number

I've rooted my phone using rachmat3 method and thats how far i've got because only just got phone as a gift and im scared to flash a new rom incase i brick my phone.
Is it safe to use the cwm.zip to flash a rom that i used from rachmat3 root method or do i need a updated version of cwm?
Can someone recommend a fully working paranoid android rom that i can use for daily use?
Which kernel would be best to use with paranoid android rom?
Should i flash a kernel before i flash a rom?
If i install paranoid android rom would i then have a permanant cwm on my device or would i still need to use my temporery cwm.zip?
What is the chances of me bricking my phone?

No need to worry
Just read the specific rom instructions carefully

Yes mate now u can flash any Rom ....Just read the instruction before flashing
I would advise you to flash a safe kernel first before doing any wipe and flashing any roms. Siyah is a safe bet.

1. Download ROM Manager and you'll be able to flash any ROMs you wish using that.
2. All the PA versions are working fine, so just browse through and choose for yourself.
3. Asking questions like that is against forum rules because they often lead to arguments. The best advice is just to download and flash different kernels and stick with which ever one you're happy with.
4. It really doesn't matter in which order you flash them. The result is still the same. I personally always flash the ROM first, but it doesn't make a difference.
5. If you use ROM Manager, as mentioned previously, even if you have to do a full wipe when flashing a different ROM, it doesn't matter because you can simply download it again anyway. Or just save it to your SD card.
6. The changes if bricking your phone are higher if you're worried about it. Just be sure to read all instructions given about installation and follow them perfectly and you'll be fine.
If after reading about flashing ROMs you are still worried, then you're better off waiting for a bit until you've done more research into what exactly is needed.
I'm a product of the system I was born to destroy!
Thanks for your replys.
just follow the steps mentioned and follow some video (like on youtube) and it'll be easy!

I don't recommend using ROM Manager since it can brick the phone.
Why don't flash custom kernel and use real CWMR?

Most ROM zips include kernels, so if somebody wants to stay with the same kernel, then it's necessary to flash custom kernel again.

You will need a pc if for example you flash a kernel and somethings not right. You cant get cwm, only download mode.
That happened to me when I flashed a siyah kernel.Phone was stuck and I couldnt boot into cwm.Only way to fix was boot to download mode and use odin/pc.

Hello,
First of all I'm a complete noob in S2 android stuff.
On the beginning I've installed jellybam ROM but then the problem appeared. After rebooting my phone just won't find the internal memory. Once it finds it other time not. I couldn't use my phone like that so I've installed jelly king ROM v.1.7 (by a mistake) + Dorimanx-V5.92 kernel. In this ROM everything worked fine. No problems with the memory. After that I've noticed that there's a newer version (1.9). So I decided to flash it. Everything seemed to be fine but the problem came back. So my question is: do you have any solution for it? Have you had such a problem and how did you solve it? Might it be a kernel problem?

This helped but this doesn't work permanently.
However I had to change to other ROM because of deep sleep issues

In http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877270 you can find your appropriate kernel, but you need to choose the right one, because the latest kernels are for JellyBean only.
No, you don't need Odin/heimdall and you don't' need a PC even if it's better to have one at hand when it comes to issues.
One hint: read and try to understand everything before flashing. If you are unsure, ask, otherwise there is a chance to brick the device, especially with 4.0.4 stock (-> brick bug)

CWM matters, not the kernel you're actually on.
Of course if you're on 4.0.4's kernel you can't wipe.
