Hi all,
sorry for my bad English
I have bought a Galaxy S3 a few days ago
Problem is I can't use android beam on any other phone(i have tried testing with Xperia S)
When we enable android beam on both phones and stick them together nothing happens.
I also tried smart tag , It isn't working too
Is there any problem with NFC on my phone ?
How can I test it?
Thanks a lot
Android Beam doesn't use NFC but only Wifi Direct as far as I know.
Does your phone have an original battery with NFC antenna?

I tought that it was:
-android beam: nfc to connect and bluetooth to transfer
-S-beam: nfc to connect and wifi direct to transfer

Hi guys
As this is a brand new section in xda-developers, we might need to draw the attention of the developers.
In this thread we can centralize all our requests that we have for the developers.
I will start with my requests :
1. Android 2.1
2. Wifi modifications, so the Wifi doesn't disconnect after the phone gets locked
3. change fonts (now words are split in the strangest ways)
4. Live wallpapers (I don't know if this will be possible on such a small screen but it's worth the try)
I hope this will raise interest from some developers.
For me root and kernel with netfilter would be enough. Wifi tether is the only thing i miss atm and it is the only reason the G1 is still not gone.
But PdaNet tethering works, right?
I think the thing we need most is a root, or at least a way of removing Sonys modifications to Android

I've seen people complain that the wifi disconnects when the screen turns off. Is that what you mean? There's actually a setting for that...
Go to Settings > Wireless Controls > Wi-Fi Settings
Press the Menu button
Select Advanced
Select Wi-Fi sleep policy
Voila! Select 'Never', and it'll never sleep. I think. Unless it's bugged, of course! (can't test here, as I've got no wifi)

Hi Spataluk
I indeed meant when the screen turns off and I'm afraid that it's not that it is a software problem. I already found that option and I already selected 'Never'.
So it is bugged and it is a known issue for Android 1.6. Was same problem with the Hero.
But thanks anyway

Yeah just to confirm this does not resolve the wifi turning off - also FixMyWifi crashes so cannot sustain the WIFI during sleep either.
Only option is to disable>re-enable WIFI after device wake-up, otherwise the wifi scanner does not pickup a network.
For me (first foray into Android development) make sipdroid work! It's set in absolute sizes for many things, so not everything shows up on the mini's screen.
Just got done with my build environment, now to get the source, and see what I can do.
root!
Everyone hates these apps that cannot be deleted. Specially the demo-versions, which are useless afterall.
There's apparently root now.
Can anyone confirm it's working with the mini pro?

Exploids method works like a charm.
I just removed the demo games and the manual with the root.
Is it easy for someone to create a *very* basic but functional rom, to get rid of SE's rubbish?
Ah, and a Recovery ROM should be WoW

This is exactly what I came here to say. Netfilter support is about the last thing I need on the phone after having found pretty much everything else I needed. If we get netfilter support, it will be the perfect phone!
I actually got the source code for the netfilter kernel-module for the X10 mini, but I have no idea on how to compile it. If I get it compiled I don't think I would have any problem getting it implemented using insmod via adb, root access and busybox.
Charge from PC
hallo all. Can you help me with some question ?

Maybe you should ask this question in the right part of the forum.
i guess since we now have root the question is can we copy the rom off the phone safely and then edit it so we no longer have all the sony stuff on it and maybe get cm6 on it
right my request is that we find a developer who can crack the bootloader and give us the android 2.2 update becasue SE never will
hello guys.. do you know how to pairing bluetooth between galaxy sII with blackberry? i want to send pictures from galaxy sII to blackberry..have idea?
1. first off you need to make sure both device are discoverable..
> on blackberry turn on bluetooth, then set discoverable to ON
> on s2 turn on bluetooth, then tick on Visible
2. back to your blackberry, click on add new device, then press search
3. once it found your S2, select it, and confirm the passcode on both device
4. you should see that both device now paired succesfully.. you could now send pictures, music, etc using share via bluetooth
i have already try that way.. but the blackberry bluetooth cannot found that sgs2 bluetooth device...so i cann't pairing..

make sure that your galaxy is visible.. and you put the blackberry on search, not listen mode.. if its not working reboot both device..
if all else fails swap memory card..
i began to doubt that it wont work because older bb's (8530, 8300) not interested to speak with galaxy's bluetooth 3.0 while newer one (9700 above) had no problem pairing with my S2..

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is enjoying the pre holidays..
I have a question that I have searched.
I am running cm7 on my galaxy s2 and my Bluetooth wont enable or my nfc wont enable either. Before I installed I did do a full wipe and a factory's reset cleared chache and also flashed twice..
I click on Bluetooth and it lights for a second then turns off, the same for nfc.
I did do the trick where people are saying turn off wifi, power down then restart and to start Bluetooth before wifi and nothing..
2.6.35.7 [email protected] #1 is my kernel.
Anything else you guys/girls need let me know. Much thanks

NFC is not working in CM7 at the moment.
Don't know about BT - I thought that non-audio stuff was working.

Oh ok so nfc is normal. But bt I need. Any ideas?
Hello? Anyone?
NFC was working pretty well with GB. However, since I upgraded to ICS, I noticed the Smarttags weren't working like I remembered, as in not at all lately.
I can turn NFC on/off all I want, and it's not just the Sony app that doesn't recognize the tags, it's also several other apps I have for NFC that worked flawlessly with GB.
Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is it just from my end?
Its working as it should for me

Dang.
Anyone else to confirm that it's on me?
Go back to GB.

That's a little harsh.
I was just asking if NFC is working for you. It's not a dealbreaker, overall I'm enjoying ICS a lot, but wondering if it might be a dud on my part, if it's a problem that others might be having, and if maybe I should reflash.
i have also noticed far weaker nfc reception than in gb...
edit: i have T-Mobile Polland distribution.
Thanks ladynaamah, I did a little more testing, and it seems the culprit is the Power Saver app.
After I turned it on and off again, suddenly the Smarttags are working like they used to.
I need more kinds of tags if I am to test further, but it seems something got broken on the way to ICS, since Power Saver was an app I used to use every day on GB, but now, it not only doesn't save its own settings (It turns screen brightness UP insted of down like I configured it to do) and they changed it so you can't use it and Airplane mode together, which just plain sucks.
'tis strange as i do not have that app at all (deleted from \system\app folder) but still suffer from this bug... nevertheless i do not use the tags so i'm not able to diagnose some patterns when they works and when they doesn't (i got them with my phone, but never actually used them) but i would be glad to help if you want me to test something particullar...
NFC isn't working for me either, the service test says it's fine, but it doesn't recognize any of the tags or other NFC-Tags.
It's weird, I had it happen again today, after I turned Airplane mode off, the tags weren't working. So I turned it on and off again and they worked.
I haven't used Power Saver, btw, so there goes my theory.
My guess is there's a bug somewhere in the NFC on/off toggle routines.
i am also facing the same problem,
i upgraded to ICS 3 week ago and today was the first time i tried the tags. the NFC toggle in the smarttags widgets opens the NFC menu instead of toggling the NFC. and the phone is not detecting the tag at all. i tried so many things in restarting and airplane mode and power saver with no luck.
are you also experiencing the smarttag widget opening the menu rather than toggle as in GB?
i hope we can find a solution to this issue.
use NFC task launcher. it's better.
mine works fine (using nfc task launcher )

The toggle button in the widget is "working" for me, as it turns NFC on and off, or at least it says it does, since the tags don't work, I can't really tell.

I guess it's not a widespread problem, since many people are reporting their NFC is working. Mine isn't, and it's not just the Smarttags app, it's several other NFC apps I've tried.
mine has the same problem. Sometimes the smart tags work fine, at other times they won't work at all. Service tests detects the tags just fine. Maybe the detection service gets killed in certain low memory situations or something like that.

Just a wild guess: Sony apparently tried to implement some power saving routine that doesn't work much... If i place tag with screen off, it does nothing, when i toggle it on, it works and placing tag immediately after does nothing (nfc double-payment prevention?) waiting about 30sec with screen on will make tags work again. Anyway with screen off they doesn't work for me at all.
It also might be worth saying that any NFC accessory is powered by electromagnetic induction, hence, one quick movement with tag towards the phone is required to properly charge it... (as electromagnetic induction is created by moving magnetic field in conductors - static magnetic field [placed tag on bottom of your phone, waiting that it "might work"] won't do anything useful)

As far as I know sbeam has never worked. Use es file explorer on both devices, if you don't have a WiFi network then setup a hot-spot on one of the devices and send the files manually.
