How to accept OTA Verizon? - Motorola Droid RAZR

My wife has a stock rooted Razr using motofail. Can she just use OTA Root keeper from the market and then check for updates to get the update? I am not available to do this for her so I need to make it as simple as possible.

install voodoo and temp. unroot, install the update, go into voodoo and restore root.

Also, which Verizon software version enables the Razr to roam voice calls in Europe (Germany). She may not even need to update right away if she already has that capability. I don't care about SIM unlock right now, I'm sure she couldn't figure that out on her own.

[Q] ics and ota rootkeeper

if ics is coming out soon i need to be prepared,i can't seem to find out if ota rootkeeper will save root on my razr xt912,also if it can save me do i do temp un root or just leave alone.......................i have been following threads that say to temp unroot ,is this just for people wanting ics early
With past OTAs I just used OTA root keeper to backup root, applied the OTA, then restored root through root keeper app. Should work the same way with the ICS update. I've never had to use the temp unroot function.

update! later reports are that root is not actually there, even though voodoo says root was restored. i would guess the devs are on it right now though. Moto & Verizon are such asshats!

What to do with OTA update 1.3.418.en.US?

This morning my phone starts to pop up OTA update message to 1.3.418.en.US every 2 hours. I recently SBF'ed back to 2.3.4. That's probably the reason. HOwever, I am no pageplus, not on Verizon, not sure why I get this update though.
Regardless, should I update? will this screw up my root privilege? As a software developer myself, I am very reluctant to do any necessary update. I know how much bugs we generate with new code So is there a way to bypass/deactivate the update?
You should use Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper from the market on 2.3.4 to keep root and upgrade. It will alike for you to have the newest kernel.

Can I remove this APP after the upgrade?
I tried to have my phone rooted and use voodoo, however the update wouldn't install when I done that so I am now on 1.3.418 w/o root.
Just sbf back and try again.

Motorola just posted this on their facebook page http://forums.motorola.com/pages/00add97d6c
Updated: 18-May-2012
Noticeable diffrence is that RAZR and RAZR MAXXX in USA will get the ICS update in Q2. Before the update it was still in development stage!
Last information in Germany is the end of June, when the Maxx is going to sell in shops.
It was looking more and more like the May 21st - 23rd rollout was the real deal with the latest leaks, but this just made it REALLY real... Time will tell, but I'm rolling back to 181 now, to be safe...
Thanks for posting OP! I'm a giddy lil b!#@h all over again!

When it is available OTA, should I just use Matt's utility 1.51 to AP Fastboot back to 173 to get the OTA (currently on Eclipse ROM .173 base)? All I need to do is titanium backup, use option 1 on his utility, then root it, ota rootkeeper, then ota it right?
Do I uninstall bootstrapper or will the fastboot back to 173 take care of that?
I was already having a great day, last day as a sophomore in school, and now hearing /official/ RAZR ICS news...best day since getting this phone!

You'll need to let it update to 181 first, then to ICS. I'm not sure about retaining root, I went back to plain unrooted stock. Matt's tool was what I used to roll back, but I was running the 75 ICS leak. If you're running 84+, you may be stuck with it for a bit...

roll out in Q2 means it will be within the next 6 weeks to meet that, which makes that verizon screen grab look real, Here to hoping for OTA ICS within the week. Been sitting on bone stock Gingerbread since I got the phone in february waiting for official ICS before I did anything. I'm doing a manual update check every night so I can grab it as soon as possible.
What does all this mean for us GSM RAZR owners North of the boarder? Should we be able to get this update prior to our carriers release. Haven't heard anything about ICS hitting Rogers customers.

I just had 8 Verizon apps update, all for ICS compatibility... Time to start wearing out the System Updates button...

I've never rooted, but might need to in the next 4 weeks. Should I go through the process of:
Root...install root keeper...then unroot awaiting the OTA roll-out?
Or will there likely be root available for stock OTA ICS within a week or so after its roll out?
Also, with prior OTA updates my apps remained installed. With ICS will I have to manually re-install all apps? this would be another reason to root, as Titanium is better than the non-root options for back-up of apps and data.
The main reason I want to be rooted is that I'm hoping to get my Droid Razr to work with a UK sim while abroad. Otherwise, I generally happy with stock, and have so many apps that I worry about going too custom.

Well Rootkeeper worked on keeping root when updating to the ICS leak, so I assume it will work when downloading the official ICS OTA.
If it doesn't a root method will probably surface in a week.
I doubt the official OTA will make you get rid of your apps, just the leak cause of incompatibility issues or something.
Just when I finished my angers course, I saw this post.

If you use the ota root keeper (2 apps that I know of on play) it will temp unroot your phone then restore root after update.
Short answer, no, as you are right now, just use one if the ota root keeper apps on play store.

WHY do the ota the just wait probably not even a day one of the great devs will have a working build based off the ota soon. you will probably have to wait for the kernel since it does not seem likely moto will release source at the same time.
To get an OTA you need to be stock release.
You can be rooted but you cannot remove any bloat that you could not have removed without root.
So if the Golf game is missing, that is okay. If VZNav is missing, the OTA won't install.
So if you are on any custom ROM, the OTA will fail.
If you don't have the stock recovery, the OTA will fail.
If you have removed bloat, by being rooted, the OTA will fail.

ICS OTA

Hey guys, quick question.
I'm rooted on 2.3.6, so I was wondering if Ill have to unroot to see the OTA in settings
Thanks.
No, but you will lose root after you update

You should see it when it comes. Your root will probably go away though. I just flashed all the way back to .171 and did the update to .181 (no root) manually just in case people who are rooted have issues with the OTA then itll be one less thing to worry about it.

I saw somewhere that root was already achieved for the OTA so that's no problem, thank guys.
You should unroot and then use this in order to get root again.
Is there a way to unroot without wiping?
