Hey guys, quick question.
I'm rooted on 2.3.6, so I was wondering if Ill have to unroot to see the OTA in settings
Thanks.

No, but you will lose root after you update

You should see it when it comes. Your root will probably go away though. I just flashed all the way back to .171 and did the update to .181 (no root) manually just in case people who are rooted have issues with the OTA then itll be one less thing to worry about it.

I saw somewhere that root was already achieved for the OTA so that's no problem, thank guys.

You should unroot and then use this in order to get root again.

Is there a way to unroot without wiping?

New Prime Question - protecting root from HC

Just received my Prime and I'm about to take it off its first charge.
I assume it will be on HC and will to start to update straight away.
Can I just check that if I get root in HC that will be preserved when I update to ICS with OTA Rootkeeper?
Will I need to apply a new root under ICS?
Thanks. Have looked for an answer but not yet found one and am worried because of the new OTA update

Yes, you should root in HC as the first update you download will be firmware 9.4.2.11 and you cannot root that version yet. Once you are rooted download OTA rootkeeper and open the app and touch preserve root or whatever the option is. Then do the OTA update. Then go back into OTA rootkeeper and reapply the root.

Yes. It is an upgrade and not a fresh install.

Just make sure you download OTA Rootkeep and open it and preserve your root before updating to ICS and you are good to go.
When you say "can I apply the same root" You aren't really re-rooting it the same way you did the first time...you are simply restoring the root with the Rootkeeper app.
Thanks - root and rootkeeper applied - upgrading now!
Edit: have just updated and the new version is 9.4.2.7! Obviously the new update hasn't hit yet.

Rooted: official update consequences

So, what happens to a rooted phone when the official update to ics comes out? Will you be able to update through Verizon, or will a dev need to work on it first? I know there are some great ics roms out there already, but what if you wanted to try the stock update? My wife also has a rezound and she won't let me "mess" with hers.
Thanks!

use ruu and go back to stock for the update
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1466474
go here and do #1~3
for #3, http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...5&postcount=58
go here and download and use this file
this one is the lastest stock ruu.
One of two options:
1. If you are already rooted, wait for a Dev to build a ROM based on the OTA so you can safely flash it.
2. You can unroot/relock your phone to accept the OTA update.
The problem with # 2 is the current methods to achieve root may not work on the updated software so it is possible to be stuck without root for awhile (unless someone finds a work-around).
The way I understand it is simple. You will be able to upgrade to a rooted is rom, however you will not be able to update the radios if you are s-on. I'm Gonna hold out. There will be an unlock tool after ics drops...whether same day or eventually.
A rooted version of the OTA rom will be released within a couple hours of the OTA.

[Q] ics and ota rootkeeper

if ics is coming out soon i need to be prepared,i can't seem to find out if ota rootkeeper will save root on my razr xt912,also if it can save me do i do temp un root or just leave alone.......................i have been following threads that say to temp unroot ,is this just for people wanting ics early
With past OTAs I just used OTA root keeper to backup root, applied the OTA, then restored root through root keeper app. Should work the same way with the ICS update. I've never had to use the temp unroot function.

you'll see the people installing the verizon version of ICS are keeping root with voodoo

update! later reports are that root is not actually there, even though voodoo says root was restored. i would guess the devs are on it right now though. Moto & Verizon are such asshats!

If you use the ota root keeper (2 apps that I know of on play) it will temp unroot your phone then restore root after update.
Short answer, no, as you are right now, just use one if the ota root keeper apps on play store.

WHY do the ota the just wait probably not even a day one of the great devs will have a working build based off the ota soon. you will probably have to wait for the kernel since it does not seem likely moto will release source at the same time.
To get an OTA you need to be stock release.
You can be rooted but you cannot remove any bloat that you could not have removed without root.
So if the Golf game is missing, that is okay. If VZNav is missing, the OTA won't install.
So if you are on any custom ROM, the OTA will fail.
If you don't have the stock recovery, the OTA will fail.
If you have removed bloat, by being rooted, the OTA will fail.

Sch-i605 verizon 4.3

Hey everyone, I am new to rooting but I have been all over t)his site learning about it. I currently have a verizon note 2 running 4.3 that I took OTA, with a vruemj9 build. I see that I can root the phone with safe root but it won't unlock the boot loader? So that means I can't install CWM or any custom Roms or kernels? Isn't that the best thing about rooting phones? Is there any way around this? Can I roll back to something before the 4.3 since I took it OTA? And than be able to root my phone? Thanks in advance guys. Any help would be appreciated

Well I just read and saw that I can't undo the OTA 4.3 update. So I guess I'll just have to use the safe root and hope for the bootloader to get unlocked. I knew I should have done this a long time ago . Has anyone seen that galaxynote2root Something about downloading root injected firmware?
