EVO - SG3 - or Nexus? - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

I currently have a Et4g, the galaxy2. Love the camera. Battery is OK. Screen is nice.
I need to get a new phone and was debating these three and could use opinions please.
Nexus - I am fine with no SD. I like that this will get official Jelly Bean first and is google only.
SG 3 - its the latest and greatest. Nice screen. Not much of a difference over the SG2. I do not like samsung as they are very slow to update and the radios kind of suck.
HTC - I had the OG Evo and loved it. I like that this has a kickstand and the camera burst and pics interest me the most. I have a 7 month old and take lots of photos.
Chime in please.

SGS 3 is by no means the greatest even though it happens to be the latest. For DEVing you can't go wrong with the Nexus, however I'm hooked on my Evo. Fantastic hardware and it feels right. Not as much support as I wished, but it's super fast and doing what I need it to. SGS 3 was just too much plastic for me and the screen seemed overly saturated. I decided not to trade in

The only significant difference for you is which do you like more. Touchwiz or Sense. If you are a hacker and like to root, well then flip and coin and take your pic. Either one will get you what you are looking for.

I am running Cyanogen 9 on my SG 2, just because I hate waiting for samsung.
I like Sense better than touchwiz, but typically use Go Launcher, so it doesn't matter.
Only thing I would need once in a while is Hotspot, so I would want to root, but other than that, not worried about changing roms every other week (anymore, I am in recovery)

I have evo lte n the nexus love them both won't even try the s3 lol its basically the same as evo.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium

i was in the same situation i picked the evo because it had the best build quality the other two felt cheap the evo is sturdy and has the best screen and camera out of all of them

If you want extreme hackability and tinkering, Nexus. Between Evo and S3, Evo. Has better screen, build quality imo, sense > touchwiz (although I'm running CM9). Dev is a bit slow, but I'm sure it'll pick up soon now that source has been released.

I'm currently deciding too. My phone contract ends in 2 weeks and I don't know whether to get the nexus $100 or save up for the evo 4g lte $200.

Hmm, I don't see that is supports the bluetooth MAP profile. My car uses MAP to receive text messages on the head unit and that is a feature I really really like.

The S3 also has camera burst along with a great camera. Multitasking is a lot better on the S3 and the radio on it is definitely improved over the S2 but some people have experienced bad reception which sprint blames on updating their towers. Battery life is better on the S3 and having it be removable to switch out with a backup battery is nice. Both screens are nice and I like how the colors pop on the S3 but the evo is also right up there. Development will should be great on the S3 and Samsung tends to update quick if any bugs exist. I love both devices

Evo LTE vs Galaxy S3

In my experience, the Galaxy 2 sucked for Sprint, the updates took forever. Had a battery drain that raped battery within 8 hours, screen off. Could maybe get 12 if I tweaked it, but that was idle, not even using the damn thing. They took months and months to fix it. ICS just came out for it, Samsung takes a long time to update IMO. HTC seems a little better, and I like the dev community. It's easier, as Galaxy 3 has many variants, ATT, Sprint, Verizon, International, etc, and can get mixed up. It does feel nicer to hold in the hand, but I like the overall design of the evo. Benchmarks show the same basically for both phones, so it's basically how it looks to you. Samsung has some cool gestures though, they have a more human approach while HTC wants more functionality I think.

Although the gs3 has burst mode its not the same as on the LTE..its available.right away from the camera app..no going through menus etc. I also have a 7 month old and it has been awesome..for those quick moments when u don't have time to fiddle with menus..I just burst away and always get a great shot I could never of gotten b4

Updates were quite good for the E4GT and bugs were fixed while other S2 variants still had them. I'm not sure what you were running but battery life on was great on it. The only time I got crappy battery life was running an AOSP rom before source dropped but even then I still got at least 12hrs. Not that it matters but both the S3 and E4GT are on Android 4.0.4 while the evo is still running 4.0.3

Odd. I tried many roms and kernels and nothing seemed to work for me. Google had results for the same issue, so maybe there were different hardware variations.

I'm going out on a limb here, but i would guess in the evolte section most people would say the evolte is the best,in the s3 section they would say the s3 is the best, etc. Do you see a pattern here? What i recommend is looking at reviews from various websites and then draw a conclusion on your own. Most people won't admit that they may have bought a turd no matter what, and that could be any phone.

Yes that is true, but in each forum you will be pointed to different strengths of each, so that is valuable information.
Evo seems to take really good action shots. Will it do that in burst mode as well? The S3 does burst, but trying to do that of someone walking, and it got all blurry in every pic.

i might be trading my s2 for a amaze. can u guys tell me the goods of this phone? whats it better than s2? i dont want "just cuz you have a amaze u like it better". i want some real reasons ha.
is ics coming to this phone ota? or custom rom?
build quality?
battery life?
I was debating between the two when I updated, and I went with the amaze. Felt better, looked better, better camera/video, and I liked the screen better. Screen seemed smoother too. Only thing I don't like about it is the battery, it really does lose out in that category.
overall though, I liked the amaze better.
how about ics? whens that coming for amaze?
read an article some mfg's are bringing updates out very soon. depends who your provider is
im tmobile. you think ics will come out?
and r there any other things amaze has over the s2?
The phones are virtually identical in terms of hardware. The S2 will benchmark a bit better because of its lighter operating system but in terms of real world use, they're both fast phones.
You just have to ask yourself whether you prefer Sense or TouchWiz. Otherwise, go to a T-Mobile store and try playing with an Amaze and decide for yourself whether or not you like its build, how it feels, which screen you prefer, how important the camera is to you, etc.
Additionally, this phone may or may not ever attain S=off, so although flashing new roms is not difficult at all if you read, it is not as straightforward as it is with other devices.
In terms of an official ICS update, it's supposedly releasing early this year:
http://www.engadget.com/2011/11/07/htc-announces-specifics-on-ice-cream-sandwich-upgrades/
I had the amaze for a couple weeks and now the s2 I can tell you its just a matter of personal preference. I preferred what the amaze has to offer over the s2, camera mainly so now I'm trying to find someone to trade with the s2 is a good phone a lot of people choose it over the amaze but to me the things it offers like screen, being thin, tw aren't what I want.

i saw buy a externel sdcard thats the best there only like 10 bucks for 4gbs
Well I'm coming off the HD2 so it's like taking a big leap and in lots of ways the Amaze is just a better piece of hardware. One of the things I do miss is the phenomenal development that went on in the HD2, you name it and someone was working on it. I really like MIUI but so far it's not been ported.
I cant complain about the work here, damn these guys are good and the ROMS are incredible. I'm using the latest from Xboarder and cant think of anything that doesn't work and work well. Even the battery is good & lasts about the whole day with some pretty heavy road warrior usage. One thing I did was pick up the Anker battery and charger off Amazon, for $18 you get the charger and 2 batteries, I never worry about running out of juice, it's a good system.
I'm an HTC guy, I looked at the S2 but just liked the amaze better but it's a personal preference, they are both solid phones. I push this thing in ways I never thought possible and it just works.
I'd not say the Amaze is going to blow your mind if you're coming from an S2 but HTC pays a lot of attention to detail and it really shows in this device.
The build quality, camera and Sense are all very refined and make for a rather polished device. Go for it

thanks ha. well is htc going to push out ics for amaze first then samsung?
Thinking of picking this up too. I had 3-4 S2s and the screen issue is what killed it for me.
What are some options of extending the battery life via better roms/kernels? I know the synergy kernel for the s2 (t989) was amazing.
If the battery life is bad, I'd rather just wait for the next thing.
I have both the Samsung Galaxy SII and the amaze. Both are practically the same. I prefer HTC Sense over Samsung TouchWiz. The battery life is quite bad on the Amaze, the SII definitely has a better life. However, the resolution the galaxy is horrible for its size. Overall, both are great phones, it comes down to the UI.

I gave up my sensation for the sg2 because I thought I had to have the sg2. As soon as I got home I was already disappointed. Could not get over how blue the screen was. The size was awesome but size is nothing if the color is poor. Touchwiz is gay, go buy a iPhone if you like it. Sg2 felt cheap too. Being my sensation was sold, I exchanged for amaze. Htc just plain and simple makes great phones. Coming from the sensation to the amaze was kind of a let down. Phone isn't any better except the camera and dedicated shutter button. The fact of no development with the amaze makes it rather boring. Waiting on ics.

Everything on the software side of the SGS2 (blue tint screen, TouchWiz sucking) could've been fixed on XDA.
I can't stand the 480x800 resolution on that 4.52in screen.... Also, it felt too light (SGSII)...
I have both the Amaze and the Sensation and I love them both. The Sensation has tons of ROMs and development. The Amaze has less development atm BUT the work that xboarder does IS OUTSTANDING. Plus, the camera is very nice.

Not to make you feel bad, but my teen daughter (14 years old), got a 16gb class 8 microSD as soon as she completed her small house chor. She needed the extra space so bad for storing the songs she wanted to carry around, and I was in a good mood for spending the few bucks it cost me.
In any case, you can do everything you're asking for without an sdcard. Go visit the [FAQ] or the [How to Root] threads and see for yourself.
By the way, I did buy both SG2S and the Amaze on the day it came out, and I am letting my wife use the SG2S. She thinks exactly the opposit. I feel lucky that she didn't chose the Amaze!!

I'm surprised your wife likes the SGS2, most females I know hate the phone or any with similar dimensions due to the phone being "too big" for their girly ass hands. Plus they're addicted to BBM anyways (ugh, BlackBerry)
The Amaze looks manlier in my opinon anyways

Getting rid of Evo, What should I get?!?

So now it turns out that the screen is broken on my Evo3D (bottom part of the touchscreen is irresponsible to touches) this is after the whole motherboard got replaced after I had the phone for a month, so my carrier will probably let me have a new phone, though I might have to cough up 50-100$ myself...
Not sure what I should get though, so I'd appreciate some input!
I could get an Evo3d for free, but my faith is HTC just isn't what it used to be. It's not just the poor quality of the Evo3D I'm talking about (the touchscreen issue seems to be fairly common) it's also the fact that HTC is making us Evo3D owners wait until at least summertime to get ICS update, which is just unacceptable for what was sold as a top of the line phone...
Moto RAZR
They'd give me the Droid RAZR for 50 bucks, and I'm pretty tempted, since it looks like a nice phone. A great SAMOLED+ QHD screen (Yes I know about the pentile), expandable up to 48gb, a pretty good camera, and super thin Kevlar surface all line up for a pretty sweet package. The only thing kinda holding me back, is that the SGX540 GPU in it is kinda old, battery life is supposed to be just average, and the camera, while good, isn't as good as in the Samsung GSII or iPhone 4S.
Galaxy Nexus
I miiight be able to get a Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy Note if I cough up 100-200$ but not sure if I should go for it. Yes, it has an awesome screen and ICS, but whatever Android phone I get will have ICS in the next 3 months or so. The downside is a kinda old CPU/GPU combo (OMAP4430 and SGX540), a 5 mp camera, average battery life and only 16gb storage.
iPhone
Depending on what I'm willing to spend, they'll let me have an iphone4 for free, or 4S if I put down some cash. Between 50 and 200$ all depending on the 16/32/64 gb model. Now I know the iPhone option is kinda controversial, and if you had asked me a year ago, I'd never get an iPhone. But lately, I've gotten kinda disillusioned with Android. Even on a high end model like the Evo3D or SGSII isn't as smooth as iOS, and lag, even if very slight, is almost always present if you go to a list, for example. Theres also the issue of hardware quality and service. The last six months I've spent a couple dozen hours either trying to get an Android phone fixed, fixing issues with it, or taking it to repairs hops and waiting days or weeks for it to be repaired. With Apple you don't have to deal with all of that. They DO give really, really great service. If you take a broken phone to the Apple store, they often just outright replace it, and that counts for something IMHO.
I've had an ipad2 for the past 5 months, and I've really gotten to appreciate how fast and smooth the experience is, and how everything just works. The other advantages would be iMessage/FaceTime, which is really cool, having my phone work great together with my iPad, and the whole Apple ecosystem. Cameras are also top of the line, from what I've seen, and battery life is really good.
I know of the downsides with getting an iPhone, the biggest one would be the 3.5 inch screen. No matter how awesome, bright and sharp it is, it will take some getting used to, to go from a 4.3 inch screen to a 3.5 inch screen.
Other phones, like a Samsung or HTC are also available for me to get, this is just my top3. I'd really appreciate your input, and let me know what phone you'd get next in my situation... Thanks!
Based on your phone listing's looks like you have the GSM version. I would go with either the GN or the Note if it is not to big for you.
The GSM GN has pretty good battery life from what I have seen. The CDMA is not as good which is that I own. Needs the extended battery on CDMA to get decent life. There are a lot of people with the GSM version who get an average of 5 hours on-screen time. To me that is some pretty good battery life.
The downside like you said is only 16gigs of storage on the GSM GN without an SD slot. I just do not get that at all! Why only 16 on a device that cannot be expanded! Luckily the CDMA version came with 32gigs.
I owned the CDMA EVO 3D back in the day, then went to the Epic 4G touch which blows the 3D away. The GN is more in a league with the SGS2 then the EVO 3D. The GN is super smooth.
I personally stay away from Moto's, especially if you like to flash things...
I have been really fortunate not to have any trouble with my evo 3d. I also had the og evo before the 3d.
My next phone will not be htc though. Im very disappointed about ics being pushed back.
Anyway, from your list of phones to choose from i would not hesitate on switching. To the galaxy nexus. Ive had a chance to play around with it a few times and really love it. Updates will always be faster to and of course it comes with the new chip for mobile purchasing. Really comes down to your personal preference and needs really. Your listed phones are all great products. I will never purchase an apple product, but i know a lot of people that love them. Good luck to you.

Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S2 i9100. Those two phones are by far the best supported phones development wise on this site. It's only going to get bigger with the GS2 likely decreasing if the GS3 makes a big enough impact.
No HTC phone besides the Sensation compares development wise right now. A few legacy devices here and there, but for the specs, the two phones I mentioned above cannot be beat right now.

Sold mine on Ebay. Bought a Epic4G touch. Not looking back. The only thing I appreciated about the Evo4G was the development community. Other than that, I'm getting twice the battery on a larger screen.
That would be my vote. And I paid full price for the Epic. Worth it.

Lol I saw you post in a thread the other day that your next phone will either be an iPhone or a windows phone haha
Evo3D.
evo 3d seems very cheap now for a (once high end) mid range phone.
I've had nothing but good luck with my Evo 3d and love it, only thing i dont like is the flimsy backing plate. From reading your post i cant help but ask were you rooted? There are tons of great roms and app mods available in the forums here, all solve numerous issues and improve upon stock in any number of ways.
As far as choosing a phone goes, if you can get a new 3d free I'd stick it out and wait to see what's available withing the coming months, MWC just finished up and there were tons of greats devices announced.
Otherwise GSII gets my vote.

SGS3 looming

http://www.androidcentral.com/samsu...-wireless-and-us-cellular-services-starting-m
Is it wrong that I feel slightly compelled to return my EvoLTE (got a few days left in my 14) and get the SGS3? With a global launch of nearly identical phones (save for CDMA, frequencies, etc, S4 in the US), it is gonna be a hit phone. I really have very few issues with the EvoLTE besides the goofy multitasking button (for which I installed the mod).
I know the screen is technically inferior, but most who have used SGS3 seem to agree our eyes can't tell.
2GB RAM is REALLY compelling, and I think its going to have a kicking dev community, and no locked bootloader.
Please don't write me off as a troll. I'm not a hater, I like the EvoLTE. I'm just going to be stuck with a phone for 2 years, and feel under pressure to make the right choice.
ill keep my htc. i prefer sense over crappy touchwiz or whatever its called
but if you want it so bad you should get it ^_^
I just read the news on phonearena...and I knew without a doubt I would find a post like this here.
First off...the international version of the SIII will have a great dev community, the sprint version....not as much. Will it be good/great? Maybe....but it won't top the evo. From what I can tell...most of the great dev community from the Evo 4g is/has moved here. I mean, cm9 is already out....what does that tell you?
The screen is inferior...and 2gb of ram sounds great. I just don't see how it is really can be considered better.
This is how I see it, and I have owned several brands of phone, no fanboyism here. (Evo-Evo3d-epic 4g touch-iphone 4s-Galaxy nexus).
The evo has better build quality, feel, screen, UI overlay, and support from HTC...yes support, look at both versions of the epic. Both suffer from slow updates and bugs...
GSIII- possibly more ram, few innovative features (or gimmicky depending on who you are). The GSIII has worse build quality, worse screen, touch wize makes the phone look gingerbreadish, and the support from samsung on sprint has not been the best in the past.
That beings said, I believe the phones will have similar performance levels. If the GSIII has two gigabits of ram, that will be cool, but I doubt the everyday user will see a huge difference, if any.
Yes the evo 4g lte has weird multitasking...but the aggressive memory managing can be turned off in a custom rom. Plus sense is great, and so is AOSP. You can do either with this phone...but you have the options of touchwize (which may be great if you like it) and AOSP on the GSIII.
Is really debatable which is better. Engadget thinks the one X series is better...while phone arena thought the GSIII series is better.
There are great devs here too. For me I'm keeping the Evo.

Crap radios, weird looking (my opinion),poor build quality, touchwiz,GPS issues ,screenes not as good.I never have a problem with a gig of ram. I just think it isn't necessary... yet anyway.it's gonna be a beast for sure, just don't like Samsung...definitely a matter of opinion .I don't think there will be that much of a difference in performance.

Horrible radios! i was getting half the speeds of what i do now, voice and data. Never going back to Samsuck
Sent from my Viper tuned ltEVO
Why is the SGSIII screen worse than the EVO 4g LTE?
As others have said radios are not good however I guess this will be the true test as far as radios seeing how they are using Qualcomm chip with radio built in... And then we will know if its just their crappy programming or something. Lol also the screen is up to you I have a gn basically same screen as sgsiii and its ok however the sgsiii is slightly better I guess cause of spacing?
Touchwiz isn't good imo and its the same look as it has been HTC at least reinvented the wheel this time around to.make it better in some ways. The extra 100 in batt will help some probably due to the screen. However I have seen many people say and or show up over on the LTE side from the og and other places.
2gigs of ram gimmick IMO I know some people say they have reloading issues when they hit home I haveny had that or anything... Not to mention the iPhone beat the sgsiii in a drop test I want to see EVO LTE in a drop test with it lol. So its all up to you keep man. And what you like better and if you want to bite down on a 35$ restock fee or 70$ restock fee if you.get the gsiii and decide you want EVO back lol.
Sent from my EVO using xda premium
I'll be sticking with my LTEvo based on looks alone. The SG3 may beat out the LTE by a hair, but not by much if any. Ive been told the US version SG3 will have the same dual-core S4 Snapdragon processor as the LTE and the only thing it has on the LTE is the 2GB ram. Its a nice phone no doubt but the build quality on the LTE is simply amazing. Im happy with my LTE but im sure the SG3 will just as nice! Its great to have two awesome phones to choose from!

Really!? Have you even seen the ET4G forum!? it is probably the most dev'd device around and will only move on to the SGS3 the EVOLTE is a great phone but as of rt now Samsung is making much better and stable product then HTC, aside from the camera options the Evo is just barely catching up to the Touch(imho)
Think about it the Hero came out and was the best phone ever made then just before the EVO( the reason we have anything like we have now) and all the heros started crapping out then now come the EVOLTE and all the Evo4G are crapping out now Im not big on conspiracy but look at the pattern.
Again these are only my opinions and observations
After owning an EVO Shift then a Nexus S 4G I am sticking with the EVO. The feel of the phone is better and I believe HTC uses better internal parts. I never had reboots at all on my EVO Shift. I had reboots and screen of death frequently on my Nexus.
I also will never own another phone with a pentile screen, no matter what people say I can't see.

this.
I had the Epic 4G Touch since launch and even though I had no problems with the development, it was SLOW to start. it got root fast (that's to zedomax) but everything else came slowly, AOSP came 3-4 months or so after release, everything else was pretty much dominated by one or two devs/teams. Why? Because CDMA came later and is less popular than GSM, and which is global - the International version is GSM and the conversion of roms from GSM to CDMA is more difficult and time consuming than you would think. Rest assured there will be some devs as there always is with galaxy phones but you can't compare it to the amount there are with the International/GSM galaxy phones.
This phone, and however, blew me away with what we have thus far. Why? Because there isn't a "GSM" version to suck most of the great devs away from our development. it's got the best starting development out of all the Sprint devices I've seen(next to the OG EVO, and of course)
Several of the gimmicky features of the S3 are apks that have been leaked already (posted s voice and floating video player in themes&apps section). that said, I there isn't really anything that makes the S3 unique except the 2 gb ram and the HD pentile screen (debatable)

Actually, Epic Touch had very good developer support.
The samoled hd screen is indeed inferior.
Samsung phones definitely have better build quality, but they are made of plastic, so it's a wash.
Epic Touch had good support from Samsung.
Touchwiz is actually a much better skin than Sense. Especially sense 4, which is a bloatware and a resource hog. One thing you can expect from GS3 for Sprint is that it's going to have stellar software, where everything is hardware accelerated to the max and buttery smooth and fast.
I'm probably gonna keep the evo cause I hate the look of the gs3, but I'm also hoping that we can steal some of their software.

I doubt people are going to move from the ET4G, which is less than a year old, to the GS3. I am sure some of themore hard core crowd will but most people are under a contract or are quite happy with their phone. The reason a lot of people are moving to the new EVO is because they were on contract with the OG EVO or are using their last yearly upgrade from the 3D.
The Dev's alone will keep me from keeping my EVO. They made me like my 3D even when I had buyers remorse over the S2. They almost made me not have to buy this phone, thanks to the ONE s Rom. I'm also liking what I'm seeing so far, even though the phone has only been out for a week.

Screen : research pentile , you'll see people viewing it under a microscope with some criticisms. Shrug.
Development community.. With sprints phone being more or less identical to verizons, I think it'll be at least as good. But for me, I just want a stable cm9, which really only takes a couple good devs. And both phones will have that, so I'll concede a wash.
Gps and radios, good points. Certainly one of the reasons I chose htc after my og epic. But maybe just maybe they got it figured out?
When picking a phone for 2 years, specs are key for me. Think about your computer: twice the ram is significant. Particularly considering the multitasking issues I too have experienced on this phone. Almost no apps truly save their state when you go away from them for a few min. And we'll be hoping both android 5 and 6 go on these generation phones (via Cyanogen probably) so more ram may be significant at that time.
Didn't have any issues with my epic build quality, came to appreciate the plastic even.
Also- isn't the gpu better, or will it be the same as evo in the us models?
Argh

Can't Decide.. If I go to Sprint.

I'm most likely leaving AT&T and coming to Sprint. There are 3 good phones on Sprint and it's really hard to decide which one to get. The Evo 4g LTE, SGS3, or the GN for Jelly Bean. If anyone could give me their opinions on those 3 devices (best roms, mods, etc.) that would be great. The GN is now only $99 on Sprint. Ugh. I hate that I can never make a decision.

What did you like of the EVO over the sgs3?
Also I looked on Sprint's coverage map and it shows that I am in "fair" territory. Does that mean I'll have poor signal?
I'm in the same boat. I have been an Android user since Day 1 since Oct 2007. I loved it. But I bought the Samsung Vibrant 2 years ago and was very sure that I would never buy another Samsung phone given their sorry upgrade track record and not releasing source code and binaries for their radios. So i was pretty sure I was going to grab the One X. The EVO LTE looks like the best one since it had a micro SD card and a dedicated camera button. The lack of removable battery is a problem, but after reading the reviews on the battery life, I thought I'd risk it.
But two things happened. Samsung released the same S3 model (bar the CPU for the US market) all over the world and they released the source code almost immediately. They don't have a locked bootloader (I know the HTC allows you to unlock it - bit it breaks the warranty). I hated ODIN initially, but it does make the Samsung phones practically unbrickable and they don't lock the bootloader, so I don't lose the warranty if I root it and install a custom ROM. I can always ODIN it back to stock and get a replacement if something goes wrong with the phone.
I haven't been keeping up with the HTC ROMs anymore so I don't know how it's going these days. I have been using ICS on my Vibrant since December. How long have you guys had an ICS ROM for the original EVO?
What's giving me pause in going for the EVO LTE is
1. Would the custom ROM scene on the EVO LTE be as good as the one on the S3? Given that the S3 is practically the same worldwide and Steve Kondik is now a Samsung employee with access to resources that might help CM10?
2. The reports of the multi-tasking on the EVO LTE are worrying. If the reason that the battery life is decent on the One X is because it's aggressively dropping background processes, that's not what I want. If I wanted crippled multi-tasking, I'd have bought an iPhone. How's the multi-tasking? If you load a game in the background, a browser loading a page in the background and switch to the email app, is it responsive? If you go back to the browser, does it start loading the page again? Or has it finished loading the page? I use planetandroid.com as my test case since it gives even Firefox on the desktop a problem (although Chrome on the desktop doesn't have any issues with it).
3. I read that it's because Sense is so resource hungry, they traded the multi-tasking to keep it in memory, but I see that that still doesn't work and Sense does keep getting swapped out and has to restart when exiting email or the browser or some big game. Is this still a problem with Nova Launcher? I read that this has been set at the kernel level. Does Auto Memory Manager help? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.lim.android.automemman
I guess the extra 1 GB on the S3 helps. I have read some comparisons that the S3 is smoother multitasking than the EVO LTE.
I'd love to hear whether these are real problems or a custom ROM would solve them.
Edit: BTW, my biggest problem with the S3 is the display. It looks very dim. The One X simply smokes it!
Thanks guys.

After the updates sense no longer reloads, for me anyway. Multitasking aside, the One X has had the best battery life on any phone I've ever had by far. Android or iPhone. I love the One X that's why this is so hard for me to decide. The white Evo LTE looks sick. I'm also starting to like the customization of the sgs3 the more reviews I watch of it.
I just got 3 hours of screen on time on my One X before it got to 50%. By far my best yet.

I now have bought an EVO LTE and its nice but I think cause of the non curve it feels like a mini tablet atleast to me , but holy carp is it fast and snappy , and super bright, I did like a whole lot better on the nexus was swiping left to right to close out the task menu , sense made it so you can only go up to close them out wich Is slow and they didn't add the feature in the browser like the nexus did

If you go with the S3 u will be happy, after I had it for a couple of days all the extra customization of the S3 seemed trivial.and gimmicky, it was cool at first especially the gestures... But I ended up not using them at all. Yes I think the S3 is smoother than the EVO, but not by much. I hated the physical home button, it had way too much lag, and that's even with the S-voice turned off. You don't get full use of the home screen realestate on the stock UX, which was annoying. Those where my only complaints. My past three phones have been sammys, that's another reason I chose the HTC, I just wanted a change, and the build quality(external) and feel of an HTC phone in my opinion is far superior to Samsung. In the end don't beat yourself up with the desicion you will be extremely happy with either phone. Oh and I made the switch to sprint from ATT due to ATT raping me on data charges... Now I have to sacrafice service, but its worth the trade off.

More info please....
the NV upgrades near me have been brutal, tons of dropped calls, especially while on the move, but even still while sitting at home. I would also check the NV upgrade schedule to see if they are even coming to your area any time soon...I agree though, wait on sprint until NV is up and running in your area.
The S3 is indeed almost identical as the international version, with the exception that it uses the S4 krait like the ones in the Evo LTE, putting it in the same situation as the LTE and the One X. The One X's community looks to be pretty active, but with a different processor than ours, the roms are not exactly interchangable, so i would expect the same issue to be present for the LTE-specced S3s.
If you're talking about development though then the multitasking and sense issues shouldn't be a problem unless you actually like sense, in which case all i have to say is you're boned .
I chose the Evo because I like how solid aluminum bodied phones feel, and I have never liked the oversaturation that is present on every amoled-based screen that i've looked at. I held off upgrading from my OG Evo because when i held the SGS2 and then the Gnex, they both felt flimsy and cheap in my hands compared to my Evo. I'm sure that they're probably all equally fragile when dropped, but for something where i'm holding it any time i'm going to use it, the feel was very important to me, so i would say it mostly comes down to personal preference, like Mitsu Evo vs Subaru STi, or Cameros vs Mustangs, test drive them both and see which one you'd like best.

Yes. The same issue would be present for the S3 if the CPU is the only change. But I expect that the S3 would be probably be a well supported phone since it would sell so many and many devs would have it. I have been out of the HTC scene for a couple of years so don't know if the EVO has had good custom ROM support. eg. I have been running ICS since Dec/Jan on my Vibrant.

Sorry, what does "you're boned" mean? I'm an idiot for liking Sense, or if i use Sense, then the multitasking is a problem? I like the stock Google UI using Nova Launcher. But I haven't seen any definitive answer on whether using Nova Launcher alleviates the multi-tasking problem. If it does, then I'd be okay with not using Sense, although I do like some Sense widgets. But I can live with out them.

I have got used to the "flimsy" Samsung phones. I like the lightweight feel of them and they are surprisingly resilient. Check out the CNet's torture test for the S3. http://cnettv.cnet.com/8301-33814_53-57468819-10391737.html It's intense.

The S3 is definitely well supported and got a CM10 preview release this morning. The sprint variant has great devs lurking in the background so there's still lots of good stuff to see released.

Galaxy s4 two months later. Thoughts?

For those of you who have had the phone for the full run since the Verizon release date, how have your opinions improved, worsened, or remained the same about the galaxy s4?
I have had the phone for almost a month now and been through a few roms and have been pleased for the most part. I have gripes with the keyboard and the way the camera is great sometimes and totally worse at others.
I'd say after this long, I am happy with my purchase, but not so happy to the point where I'm not looking at upcoming phones later this year as a possible replacement.
Thoughts after two months?

I came from an S3 so I wasn't expecting a whole new experience but I love my S4. The screen is amazing and it's snappy as hell. No lag. I got the 32 GB one and the fastest 64 GB SD card I could find. Unfortunately I got the update so no rom flashing for me. Oh well, I love it the way it is. I was going to wait for the HTC One but I'm happy with my purchase. I also get way better signal too. When I had my S3 I would always get 3G at work but I always have 4G on my S4. My average battery life is 18H, 49M according to GSAM.

I love my GS4. its perfect for me. Does more then i need. If there was no root i would have been happy with it the way it was but with root and CleanROM installed, i basicly can't run it out of juice in a day, besides, charging is soooo fast anyway. I was also one that never had lag even on stock unrooted so with what i have now being rooted, its even snappier then it was originally. The phone is a beast. Signal is always strong screen is amazing and its the perfect screen size.
Honestly it is an amazing device.. I had it on clean rom for weeks and loved it.. just flashed CM10.1... I am blown away by the lightning fast speed.
I had the s3 as well before this. I've had mine since launch day and love it. I do have typing issues with the keyboard sometimes. Guess I sbould look for a good replacement. I wish it had more haptic feedback though. Doesnt hardly feel like im typing on a touch screen, it's too smooth to the touch. I had htc phones before this and rooting this s4 was 50 times easier.

Does swiftkey let you use the Google speech engine for voice to text? I have Swype+Dragon and I find the Google engine better in understanding my accent
I came from a droidx to the s4 so i am just amazed at what this phone can do. I am new to ROMs also so i am messing with this phone all day long.....
Coming from a locked down bionic, the lokid S4 is like a wet dream. ... Although, when comparing radios/signal reception, moto dominates Samsung. ..
Also Came from a locked down Bionic. After the JB upgrade that phone turned into hot garbage. The S4 is light years better!!!

Yea it lets you use Google voice to text. SwiftKey also has SwiftKey Flow which is like Swype. SwiftKey has the best predictions of all keywords I've tried because it constantly learns what you type. It looks at your Facebook posts, Google posts and by past texts if you authorize it.

I came from a 32gb S3 (white) to a 32gb S4 (black).
For me, it's slightly faster, the screen is noticeably better and the battery life (which was already excellent on my s3) is slightly better.
I actually like the "flat" feel of the edges compared to the S3. The camera is phenomenal.
Overall, it's a nice evolutionary step up.
Love it
Download Jelly Bean Keyboard from the dev VLLWP. It fixed every issue I had with the keyboard and more. It's free and there is little to no reason to get the paid version.
After fixing the keyboard, I have zero complaints about the phone. My battery life suffered after the update a bit but now seems to be back to normal which for this phone means I can go two days of light use with my settings the way the are before I plug it in. The only thing I have noticed is that my battery gets eaten up if I am using runkeeper and listening to music. I think it is the combo of GPS and headphones. I'll find a fix eventually. REALLY looking forward to android 5.0 on it this Fall!
I like it a lot more now that the GPS glitches in CM10.1 were resolved.
Disclaimer: I came from a Galaxy Nexus.
Waiting to see how solid the post bootloader lockdown ROMs are. The devs will eventually backport everything that does not require a firmware upgrade. But they will effectively be a port-rebase hybrid since we will not be able to run the stock ROM anymore. 4.3 will be the big test. If the moto x is unlocked like a sort of nexus device, swappa here I come.

Should I go S4?
Hey guys, it's been a while for me since I've last posted here. Pretty much I'm curious if I should buy the S4? I obviously want the latest and greatest but at the same token, i don't want TouchWiz. It would seem the answer is to just root and flash CyanogenMod but now I'm curious if Cyanogen allows for all features, like 4g & WiFi and full camera features like 1080p recording, to be used without problem. I remember, with my original EVO 4G, I mostly ran Cyanogen but 4g didn't work for a long time and there were a couple of other things that were a problem like 1080p video recording.
Hopefully you get a sense of my question: Can I buy the S4, flash CyanogenMod and use all features of the phone? (I know the eyeball and wave sensors most likely won't work...)
Side note: I got pretty turned off to Android with the purchase of the EVO 3D (my fault, I know). So turned off in fact that the EVO 3D no longer looks like a phone. I am soo tempted to just go iPhone so I don't have to worry about this stuff anymore... I just want ANDROID or bust!
I came from the gnex. Absolutely love this thing. Obviously battery life is 10 times better. I'm in casinos all the time and I almost always have 4g.
My biggest gripe is the lack of development, not that it's the phone's fault

I'm curious how you mean lack of development? You have CleanROM (stopped at 1.6.5) HyberDrive, Slim Beans, Carbon, CM10.1, Liquid Smooth, Synergy, Eclipse, Google Edition port, Chameleon, PAC-man and a few others im not thinking of im sure.
I can't see a lack of development.
I am coming from the bionic. I actually liked the bionic. I love my s4 except the new update puts a huge damper on things. I was fortunate to have root still and twrp. I am running brands me7 ota so I don't have wi-fi. Once that is fixed it will be perfect for me. I so miss Motorola skin. This is my first Samsung.
Anyone having a problem with screen burn in?
Hey, so I was at best buy the other day looking at the S4 and noticed they all had various degrees of screen burn in. Now, I know these devices are on all day long but I'm curious, do any of you, under normal use, have this problem? There were numbers burnt into the screen from the clock and the top info bar...
