CallRecord, will it work on stock Kernel - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

People...
I am not looking to make this question a fight as to why I am doing it, is it legal, etc. etc. as people tend to get into with this question. Does the kernel of this rom allow for call recording from kernel??
I have a rooted HTC Thunderbolt running BAMF Soab rom w/IMOS kernel and waiting for the Samsung phone to deliver. I am North America tech support and clock over 3500 minutes per month on global conference calls. Being able to listen back to my calls, collect minutes, and re-capture things I missed is hung for me when you support half the globe.
So pls no flaming on this question. I just want to know will the stock kernel work with my paid CallRecord app or will I have to use another kernel for the SIII phone.
Thx

Belongs in Q&A, Mods will move.

I have the att version of the galaxy s3 and my callrecorder app work perfectly fine with stock kernal. In the setting change device to Htc thunderbolt and record calls from standard android api.
Should work just fine.

I have not used any call recording apps before. What does everyone recommend to use? Do any of them integrate with the dialer, so I can turn on the feature during a call?
Thanks

Yes use the app I linked above. You can change the setting to auto record all calls, incoming calls, or outboud calls. You can also manually record from the dialer.

Yes I agree...this is the best app for call recording and it works great....I do not use this in a manner that is illegal and it saves me many times to playback something I was suppose to do or something I did not do...
Great app...have used it for a long time and the developer just keeps improving it....

Works great on mine too. Rooted stock.

i get "an error has occurred, this call cannot be recorded"
i did the same settings as you. i dont know whats wrong? i'm on stock t-mobile sgs3. and i'm rooted. but everything else is stock though.

In the past I used the Kernel but on the VZW S3 I had to use the standard API. Since I use all BT and not talk directly on the phone I changed the Standard Android API Pref
Audio Source
Voice call uplink & downlink
Action on BT connected
Switch audio source
Audio source when BT headset connected
Voice call uplink & downlink
Device
HTC Thunderbolt (if others used something like the Samsung Note, etc...let me know)
I did a test in another room and away from the phone (in closet ) and I can be heard well when played back as well as the other party. So it works good
Does that help?

From OP by cAll recorder dev. CallRecorder
version: 1.2.7
Last update of the app in this post: 27.06.2012
Description:
This program records phone calls from the phone line on some phones. Such recording is not usually available out-of-the-box, it needs hardware support in your OS kernel and root access. If you have an HTC device, you're in clover if you've got a custom ROM. Otherwise, please visit the xda site, there're plenty. Basically any device is supported, provided that it's based on a Qualcomm chip, say, their Snapdragons, etc. If your device has no such support, the program still records phone calls, but you need to select Android API in preferences and the recording will most likely proceed from the mike, not from the line. Please feel free to make any comments or send suggestions.
The list of supported devices:
Requires the kernel with 2-way call recording patch and ROOT permissions:
- HTC Desire
- HTC HD2
- Google Nexus One
- HTC Desire HD
- HTC Desire Z
- HTC Desire S
- HTC Incredible S
- HTC Thunderbolt
- HTC Sensation
- HTC EVO 3D (CDMA)
- HTC Hero
- HTC Wildfire
- Acer Liquid mt
- Dell Streak
- ZTE Blade
- Acer Liquid
- Sony Ericsson XPERIA ray
- Sony Ericsson XPERIA arc
- Samsung Galaxy S II X (SGH-T989)
- Sony Xperia S
Use standard API for recording (may record from the mic):
- Motorola Defy
- Sony Ericsson XPERIA mini pro
- Samsung GT-I9000 Galaxy S (Darky's 9.5 ROM)
- Samsung Galaxy SL i9003
- Samsung GT-I9001 Galaxy S Plus
- Samsung GT-I9100 Galaxy S II (Preferences: Audio source - voice uplink, and voice downlink for BT)
- Samsung GT-I9300 Galaxy S III
- Samsung GT-S5570 Galaxy Mini
- Samsung GT-N7000 Galaxy Note
- Alcatel OT-990
- HTC One X (tutorial here)
FAQ
Q: Is there kernel patch for my phone?
A: There are kernel patches only for phones based on QSD8250(HTC Desire, Nexus One and etc.), QSD8255 (HTC Desire HD, SE Xperia Ray and etc.), QSD8260 (HTC Sensation, SGSII X(SGH-T989)) chipset.
Q: Why CallRecorder doesn't support all phones?
A: The manufacturers aren't interested in call recording feature, so they don't add necessary drivers and libraries to the phone.. And to get call recording on these phones working, we need to create a driver that supports it. In many cases, the necessary source code is not open-sourced. And without phone we are unable to start creating that patch. If you want to get 2-way call recording you may donate a few dollars on the phone here.

[Q] Call recording?

Hi,
Has anyone tested whether call recording works? In case you didn't know, there IS an API for recording calls, however it silently fails on most phones. Apparently on some it does work:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=2117
According to that bug report the Galaxy S can do call recording, so maybe the S2 can too...?

I have installed total recall on my galaxy s2 and it works but I can perfectly record with loud voice the opponent but i don't hear my voice.. very strange, it is the opposite of Galaxy s..
I have tryed also Call recorder widget but it doesn't record anything.
Some other experince?
Just wanting to keep this alive. Total Recall records the remote voice great but not the local (phone mic) voice.
I did see on another thread with the S1 replacing some system files, from a Taiwan ROM? Is this not possible with the S2?
Thanks for anyone attempting to fix this. Otherwise, I'm happily surprised by this phone everytime I look at it
There is another thread on this already.
'callrecorder' from the market (green android icon) records both sides properly.
It doesn't use the speaker phone to record so it s great quality

Callrecorder By Dsoft works great, yes the one with the green android
Thanks guys, will test tomorrow!
Another +1 for Callrecorder By Dsoft. Installed it and works great.
Great news! You just pushed me to buy this phone
Yessss callrecorder works good so it means with galaxy2 you call record perfectly both direction, but it is too simple as software missing of many settings... Is there some more complete call recorder for our galaxy s2?

Hi.
Just today I founded this app: VoiceRecorder and works perfectly for my SGSII.
Different from Calrecorder is that this app don't show any icon when ready for recording
and also is for free
DarkyRom2 XXKI3 Base ( 2.3.5 ) comes with an in-built call recorder which works very smooth , you can hear both sides very clear and it has a button in the call screen so it's very easy to use ..
it works!
one more app that works!
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ohc.phonetapper
so which is the best? any of them work on bluetooth?
also WHERE is the callrecorder by dsoft I can not find it in the market. anyone have a link or an apk if no longer on the market?
found the dsoft one via google search.
odd he has 3 that all appear the same 2 free 1 $3 but support appears lacking and apparently it has issues with file corruption you won't know about till you find a file it did not record.
consensus on which is the best/most reliable. I don't mind a pay app especially if the quality and transparent (record all calls to sd) automation is good.

As far as I know call recording will not now nor will it ever work over bt. The drivers don't support it
Hmm it must not be accessing the hardware directly like it does on the touch pro2 - since on that unit it records no matter what I use to make the call speaker handset or bluetooth.
Pity
Is this a hardware limitation or a software limitation?

I think both. They tend to remove it as it is illegal in many areas unless you tell them it is being done before they say anything. I used to use it myself till a buddy of mine found the recording while we were looking over my phone files to troubleshoot an issue and as a lawyer he adviced that I stop using it right away or I could be sued lol

this is NOT the problem.....
its a software problem..
samsung must have (and usualy does) disable this feature for legal perposes
as some countries have issues with this!
the hardware can route the sound anyware it just needs a little kernel tweak!
once the devs have less on their hands we can ask them to impliment this feature
I agree with unreal...coz these, call recorder only not work on samsung phones...except galaxy s..

Turn your Wifi Flyer into a phone.

I used Grove IP and download it on the marketplace and used my google voice account to log in. Now you can make and received call from your flyer as long as you have a wifi connection.
Just wanted to share something to the community.
can you then pair a bluetooth headset?
thanks for the find

Yes that did work. Now is there a way to receive calls from a cellphone calling you from Grove IP?
I use my Skype account and it also works well.
I know there are ROMs that enable the Bluetooth functionality, but is there a flashable zip to do the same thing for those of us who'd rather stay with the stock ROM?
Be sure to change your settings in Google voice. Don't have it forward to any number have it forward to Google talk or email that way if anyone calls your Google voice number it rungs your tablet with grooveip. Wired headsets are confirmed working. I used the standard htc headset with the inline mic that came with every android htc phone I purchased and the work perfectly for you hearing the caller and the caller hearing you.
Thankyou I was having trouble getting it to receive calls.

No, you have to root, but you can keep the stock ROM , just rooted. Just to be clear bluetooth works on totally stock, but not bluetooth headset. There is a small mod to one text file you do once rooted that enables headset profile for bluetooth
Just want to know if it uses the sim or google server to call?

Doesn't need a SIM if you have wifi its a VOIP
There is actually a very active forum thread with the developers of GrooveIP here.

Call Recording

Has anyone who already purchased the Verizon Galaxy Note 2 been able to confirm if 2way in-call recording works across mic/speaker, speakerphone, and/or bluetooth headset?
Is additional software required, i.e., CallRecorder, Total Recall, etc.?
Thanks.
I can't say for sure if it works without root but I just rooted mine and installed call recorder the called voicemail and it picked up both sides.
I'm downloading root now.
Did you test the call recorder with a blue tooth headset and were you able to hear both sides?

We can't yet do the install of the update.zip via CWM since we do not have CWM yet, but could we do the "manually replace packed apk files to system/app folder" process to enable call recording?
Thx.

Will someone who is rooted please try call recorder app by skvalex. From the play store. You will also need to download Alsa app by skvalex as the Samsung exynos processors require the use of the Alsa app in conjunction with the call recorder app. Hoping blue tooth call right cording works once Alsa is installed. You have to go into settings in call recorder and then go to advanced experimental features to download and activate Alsa app.
Thanks in advance.

Well this sucks ballz.
i'm afraid we're going to need a custom kernel to get call recorder app working. if you look at the original note (both at&t and international) forums, you'll see that the exynos processeors route the call audio completely differently (the kernel controls). VS. Qualcomm chipsets which route directly from audio source to the DSP chip inside the phone....
long story short....we're going to need some kernels for each gnote 2 (i.e. sprint, verizon, at&t, tmobile)....frankly, I"m a verizon customer, so hopefully some of our talented rom / kernel chefs will take a note of this thread and build a kernel that works.....
the waiting begins.....fingers crossed....

Exactly.... This is why I'm still on the s3 as well. It works right out of the box with call recorder by skvakex.
If you root however, it will stop working. Choose other in the phone type. And android app for the sound input. Also aac for the file type.
any updates on kernel development?
