Problems updating to ICS - Phone won't boot anymore - HTC EVO 3D

Could someone please help??
tryed updating through System Update (OTA)
failed to install... said my device may have custom rom
I wasn't using a custom rom, only changed cid to use a custom rom but ended up using stock. Just forgot to change cid back.
Changed cid back to original (HTC__044) and tryed to download OTA again...
It succeeded to download and asked me to install... Accepted.
it rebooted to Recovery and failed to install.
Followed 1st post instructions (status 7)
and installed the OTA through recovery.
Instalation successful!
BUT
When I rebooted the device, it just doesn't boot.
I downloaded anryl files, but it failed to load PG86IMG.zip when I boot to bootloader. Says wrong image.
tried booting into recovery but it won't boot into recovery either.
then tried flashing recovery again and booting into recovery again. No success.
any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Wich H-BOOT do you have? Are you S-OFF or ON? Have you tried an older .img or newest?

My hboot is 1.49.0011. I´m S-ON and I tried the newest .img (modded ICS - because of that Status 7 error)

I would relock via adb if you can get it to recognize commands while in the bootloader mode. Then use a gingerbread rru to flash back to stock. Then you hopefully should be able to take the OTA and have it work.

Did you have a custom recovery when you went to do the ota or a stock one?

a question: can I accept the OTA update again?
do I have to do something before accepting the OTA?
or it's better for me to leave it that way?

I would just use any ROM other than the official update, I would suggest MEANROM ICS

phone wont update to ics
I just tried the OTA update for ICS on my evo 3d. After it downloads the update it shuts down, shows the installion screen, but reboots to 3.0. My h-boot is 1.5 with S-OFF. Any suggestions that will remedy this problem?

[CONFIRMED] Root after OTA

Just wanted to let you guys know that I still have root after I installed the OTA. I will give a few steps what I did in a few minutes.
These are the steps I used. Took a while (seemed like forever) but at least I am updated and with root. I originally came from an ICS rom then I had to flash a stock rom then RUU.
1. Flashed stock recovery (Link below)
2. Locked bootloader (fastboot oem lock)
3. Flashed RUU 1.02.605.6 (link below)
4. Installed OTA (check for new software updates when booted)
5. Unlocked bootloader (http://www.htcdev.com/)
6. Flashed RA recovery (found in forum)
7. Installed su and superuser under Developer menu under RA recovery
8. BAM!!!!!!!
The RUU I used was found at http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=37
Thanks scrosler for having that available!
The stock recovery can be downloaded at http://db.tt/tw5m33ZG. Unzip and flash in Fastboot using command "fastboot flash recovery recovery_signed.img"
Can you post a link to the RUU and stock recovery you used ? Thanks.

Can you make a very detailed step-by-step process, including commands, adb, etc., that you used?

I put very general commands and info beside the steps in the first post. PM me if you have any questions.
So does it seem like it's worth it? How's reception and call quality with the new radios?
What radio versions does your phone list now?
I just rooted. I still have my original stock ruu. It's rooted though. Could I update with that or do I have to unroot?

If it lets you update then go for it. Just make sure your bootloader is unlocked after the update then install su and superuser and you got root back basically.
So if I just uninstall su I can update? I have amon ra as my recovery. What about that??
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk
You would need the stock recovery. RA would cause it to fail.

Right on! So I'll uninstall su and push the stock recovery and see what happens. No relock required cause it's my og ruu. Cool.

It won't work because (I'm assuming) that his mainver was updated. AFAIK the RUU won't run a "newer" mainver.

[Q] Can't update to ICS (rooted with CWM)

Hi,
I've tried updating to ICS but got the black screen with the blue android icon and the triangle.
From searching the web I got mixed answers, some said that it may be because I've changed to CWM.
I'm still s-on.
What do I need to do in order for the update to work?
Thank you !!!:good:
Revert back to stock.

You could change recoveries to 4ext (see my signature) since that is what people think the problem might be. Also, ICS does not seem to work well with S-On from what I've seen in these forums, so you may want to get S-Off.
thanks but..
First of all thanks to both of you for answering..
I'm a bit new at this so a couple of questions -
I didn't change roms, all I did was to unlock the bootloader (using HTCDEV) replace the recovery and get root. This means that I'm on stock Rom no?
Does changing the recovery to 4EXT will help? cause it's doesn't seem logical that changing to a different recovery will help me install the official OTA update..
Oh and I'm using the GSM version if that matters..
Again, thanks!

To install official updates you need stock htc recovery.... Since you have Cwm it won't work.. Flash stock htc recovery using fast boot then take the ota update and everything will be fine.
I'm aware that this may seem like a dumb question, but where do I get the stock recovery from?
(I know that fast boot is that file that I have on my computer, the one that i used to flash CWM recovery)
Thanks!!

Don't know if this will work, but I just searched evo 3d gsm stock recovery in Google and this came out http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1540121
There is a media fire link for the recovery.....
Flash it using fast boot, relock the bootloader and then try to install the ota..... And post back the results.... But taking the ota will update you Hboot, which might not be in unlockable atm....
Thanks!!

if you have unlocked your bootloader via htvdev way why not try a custom rom? Lots of Roms out there. I'm currently on Virtuous Eclipse. Sense 4.0 is the best!

[Q] Lost Recovery Mode & Wifi

I'm a bit of a newb and seem to have f'd my phone up a bit. I was able to unlock via HTCdev prior to them taking it away and have been on ViperLTE 1.0 from the beginning. Before flashing ViperLTE 2.0 I wanted to flash the new RUU so I grabbed the RUU files from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1770978 and proceeded to flash Stock boot (kernel) and Stock Recovery (2.17.605.2). Needless to say I'm unable to get into recovery and noticed wifi doesn't work any more... What can I do to rectify this and get me back to the path of flashing ViperLTE 2.0
Thanks for the help!

You need a custom recovery like twrp or cwm I think. If you were on viper 1.0 all you needed was the hboot. Try pushing the recovery in fastboot. I think it'll fix everything.

[URGEND] No ROM bootable + weird issues!

Hey folks, this is urgend!
Why? Well, I wanted to do my girlfriend a favour and root her device and did so successfully, but it seems I cannot boot into any real ROM. The only ROM that successfully booted was the unofficial port of CM9. I uninstalled it because I would like to flash a daily driver for her. And that was when I tried fulmix.ROM as well as mySENSEdx+ v3. Here is my setup:
* TWRP 2.5 (official release)
* Formatted with SuperWipe JB
* Unlocked bootloader
Issues; When having flashed the ROM and installed boot.img through fastboot, all I get is a blackish screen, the device reboots every 5 minutes. Strange: I seem to not be able to perform a factory reset through TWRP. It always tells me that either cache or another smaller partition is inaccessible. Did I miss something while rooting? Any recommendations as how to solve this freaking issue will be REWARDED!
You are using the wrong recovery for your hboot. Your hboot version seems to be 1.25, but you are using a recovery made for hboot 1.24 and below. So go in Android Development Section and download TWRP for JB, flash that via fastboot and ROM installing as well as factory reset should work again.
1. Your main problem is the recovery. Don't use the official release but use the one for JB hboot from this thread : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=36714573&postcount=2
2. In order to make sure that recovery is correct for your device, make sure you do have a 1.25 hboot (boot to bootloader and recheck that)

1. Superwipe is not necessary. Just select wipe and do swipe to factory reset in TWRP is enough.
2. The official one is based on old files before JB is released to DX (e.g official TWRP for One X for the latest JB 4.2.2 hboot 1.73, touch is not working because it is based on old files)

Why don't you just flash a recovery and install rom from there.
Because flashing a recovery results in a "signature error" - means no recovery is flashable. This phone is not even able to get S-OFF yet, guess this is since the ROM itself is "corrupt" due to the HBOOT downgrade. Or am I getting this wrong?
Maybe... If I recall it correctly, the revolutionary scripts first interaction with the phone requires adb which isn't possible through bootloader. Do you have the stock recovery installed and can you boot into it? If yes, maybe adb can access your phone from there. If this is possible, try to run revolutionary from within the recovery...

That's the point: This phone doesn't have a recovery and flashing one is not possible. That's why flashing a complete RUU is trivial here. Are you able to find the adequate 1.22 RUU as a ZIP zo be flashed through fastboot?
Do you have the download link for the appropriate RUU? I can then extract it for you and load it up again, but I don't know which file you need exactly, as there are many RUUs on AndroidRuu...

[Q] 2.19 OTA Update Help

My Incredible 4G is S-Off, Unlocked Bootloader and Rooted and running on 2.17.605.2.
I did all this becuase I want to install CM11 on this phone. CM11 has a note that says "Firmware version 2.19.605.2 (which contains radio version 1.53.06.1009) is required for WiFi to operate. "
When I try to OTA update to 2.19.605.2, the phone reboots into TWRP and won't install the update.
Is there another way to update to 2.19.605.2 so I can install CM11 correctly?
Thanks in advance for your help!

I thought that was right, but wasn't sure because the directions say "These instructions are only for users that are already running CyanogenMod".
I'll try this tonight when I get home. Thanks again for your help guys.
The other option is to restore the stock recovery and try the OTA again it should install fine then put TWRP back on and install CM11. I restored stock when I updated the Firmware and didn't have a problem.
