Wifi issues. Need to change mac address or something... - Samsung Galaxy Player 4.0, 5.0

My brother recently got a 4.0 u.s. And I let him restore from my backup and now I can't get on Wifi unless he turns his Wifi off. I'm pretty sure it's because our mac addresses are the same. Is there a way to permanently change my mac address?

You should always search before actually posting.

Yeah, mac changing is technicaly illegal, since the FBI likes to keep close tabs on you, lol! More likely you have set up static IP addresses that are the same. I have accidentally done that, and it makes the problem described. I don't think flashing a custom rom changes the Mac, but idk.

Well i solved the problem. And yes i did tons of research before posting. Nothing worked. So I completely wiped my brother's player and that reset the mac address

IP Address problem

I can't get the tab passed obtaining ip address status on my gf's wireless dsl. It works at my house but not here. I put in the password correctly but it won't connect. I also cleared the dhcp list using root explorer and no go. Any suggestions?

You sure Tab can use WEP? Why does she use WEP, it is totally outdated and unsecure.
It's connected before now it doesn't. They're technologically retarded so the encryption method they don't care about

Dug out an old spare router to check, the Tab supports WEP.

<offtopic>I feel duty bound to suggest that you upgrade it for them as much as possible. They might not have the understanding but it only takes one curious 13-year old wanna-be hacker to break WEP in ~1 minute and they'd be potentially liable for all the dodgy porn/bomb-making lessons/copyrighted material that the aggressor downloaded.</offtopic>

Wifi not working?

A bit more info would help us help you. Whats your level of understanding? Are you new to android? Is your router wireless b, g, n? What type of security do you have implemented? What happens when you attempt to connect? Can you scan for networks? If you can do you see any, do you see all but yours?
Sent from my DROID RAZR using xda premium
Ok i can see the networks available an mine is one of them. When i try an connect it just keeps flashing connecting. Im not a noob. And i believe its a n.

You can try to change the wifi signal type in your router's settings

1st, make sure you can connect with a pc over wifi, also make sure you're wifi is on a channel between 1- 11(if in the us). My guess is that the problem is in your security, make sure the password your using is right, try setting your router to use wpa2 personal with aes encryption, try switching off your security long enough to try and connect, if you can than thats the problem. It also could do with the dhcp server, go to settings >wifi settings >hit the menu button and go to advanced > set a static ip with in the dhcp pool, ie. If you have a linksys router, the lan ip would be 192.168.1.1 if so if the dhcp server is set to use up to 50 addresses 192.168.1.2-192.168.1.50 would work

Wifi issue

Ok so I've been running an unsecured network at home cause I didn't know how to set up a password. If well today I talked that issue and my network is now secured with a password. So when I try to connect my note to my network it asks me for my password, which I enter without fail because it seems to accept it, however I'm not connecting to the Wifi network. Anyone have any suggestions for me?

Restart the router and the phone then try to connect again.

+1.
Also try forgetting the home network on the phone then reconnecting.

After you type in the password click on the network name again and click connect I have to do that sometimes for it to work

Tried all suggestions but still no joy. I know I'm entering the key right because it worked on my laptop.
Any other ideas?

Ok I've tried everything, but I can't get my note to recognize the wifi. Plus my laptop is extrememly slow now that it is secured. I'm contemplating uinsecuring it to solve all my problems.

Network will be a bit faster unsecured, but not recommended of course
But now it won't recognize? Or won't connect?
You try all the different types of security?
Try to use a channel lower than 11.
You're on a developers forum and you don't know how to set-up a wifi password on a router. Wow!

There should be some sort of test you have to pass to get an account here.

Yeah, a reading comprehension test would be excellent.
Read the OP before you jump in on a negative comment.
Is this an example of second rate. . .

If you have something helpful to add, add it. Otherwise, move on.
This happens on my note from time to time. Disabling then re-enabling wifi on the note usually fixes it.

I remember having to delete the wifi list because tapping 'forget network' wasn't doing that.
I also recall fiddling with a wifi supplicant file. Does anyone know what I'm referring to?

I agree, and you sir would fail miserably at being a decent human being. Piss off.
So anyways, did you try a lower channel? Is it an 'n' router?
It Is an m router and I did try lowering the channel, still no luck.

Try setting upnp inside router settings. Shot in the dark, but might work. What type of p/w protection are you using? Are you having issues with anything else connecting wirelessly?
Well, I use my network with open security. But I allow devices to connect if their MAC address is in the list.

Wifi issues

Hey. Got an AT&T ATRIX 4G phone with Nottachtrix4G Rom. Long story short my Wifi doesn't seem to work anymore. I know my router is fine because I use my laptop everyday. I tried removing and re-adding the network. I also went into recovery and deleted the cache and stuff. The network connects fine, and gets an IP but I can't load anything like facebook, browser, radio, etc. Any suggestions besides full wipe? Thanks
PS: im a network / computer tech for my job, so im not a noob and know for a fact its not my network.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
do you have MAC filter on your router?
Nope.
I will also add it worked fine a week ago. Then it just stopped working.
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
you can try with another browser, or try to clean app data. Or just make new connection
Issue had to do with my router and wireless access point. Rebooted both and no issues since.

Utorrent stuck at 0%

Hi guys
I have tried in many occasions to use utorrent plus other clients in my S3 and can seek to get a single download to start, they all are stick at 0%
Thought maybe it was to do with the port perhaps its alport 6882 but I don't know what to change this to or how to forward the port to my s3 IP address.
Can someone let me know what to do to get this working?
Thanks in advance

Usually you have to forward ports on your router. Google how to forward ports and you will know

I have but all I can find is how to do this on a laptop. Which is fine, my laptop already has it all set up right...
I just can't seem to get it done on my s3.

port forwarding is not setup on a laptop or phone (at least not only). You have to open the port on your router, assign, if possible, fixed IPs to your laptop as well as phone and then it should work. some routers also allow you to reserve a certain IP address for a certain end user (e.g. laptop or phone) which will help you if you do not want to give fixed IPs but use DHCP (the way I do it)
Is there a guide somewhere for that asi have no idea how to open a port on my router
What of i want to download over 3G?

For 3G you do not need to open anything as it depends on your provider. For your router there is one website that describes the process for nearly all routers, but I forgot the name.
Portforward.com maybe yes, or Google your routers name and open port

Sorry guys but have got nowhere with this....
Can anyone who has utorrent or ttorrent or any of these torrent apps say what they did from install to 1st torrent to get it working?
I assume that over 3G I shouldnt need to tweak anything yet downloading does absolutely nothing. Over WiFi I get the same.
I can pick up most things but really don't get port forwarding and not even sure that is the problem. I would love to be able to use torrent apps but I just dont know how.
I can get utorrent working on pc fine but googling and trial and error but I'm getting no where on my S3.
Can I get a little help?

If you have T-Mobile, they usually block p2p traffic.
