Well my friends tablet just decided to not turn on anymore. It's not rooted and it just started. Just wondering if this is a known issue or what?

Various possible causes:
1. volume up rocker is stuck, causing the Prime to boot into APX mode (this mode shows nothing on the screen, and makes the prime appear to be shutdown). In this case, try holding down the volume down button while holding power. Once you feel a vibrate, let go of the power button, however keep holding down the volume down button. A bunch of stuff may appear on screen but keep holding down the volume down button until Android OS completely loads. If it does load, then your friend has a problem with the volume switch, be it a hardware malfunction or a kernel glitch. Try resetting the prime using the pinhole held down for 30 seconds and see if this helps any. If not, I'd tell him to RMA under warranty.
2. SOD - sleep of death. Hold down power until it vibrates and then see if Prime loads.
3. Battery? perhaps the connector got messed up somehow and the battery is not charging properly. Does the orange led on the power button light up when the charger is plugged in? If charging through the dock, try disconnecting from dock and charge the tablet directly. If charging from the tablet, try connecting to dock and charging from there..
Hope everything works out for your friend.
It's not the battery cause it kept trying to cold load the OS when I was doing the column down key. It won't load the os tho so I guess it's the sleep of death. Thanks for the help.

Which ROM are you running?
Sent from my Transformer Prime TF201
I have a prime that was RMAed for the first time because of a sleep of death, totally black screen not even any startup logo, it can be detected with USB, and it just vibrates. It was fixed, now i just sent it for a second RMA for charging issues. It would turn on but the displays shows to charge the tablet even is it is and shows a 0% on the battery and eventually drains fairly fast. If I leave it charged overnight, I think it trickle charges it enough to work for a few hours but still says 0% on the battery and the tablet doesnt recognize that it is charged. Already tried factory reset, hard, soft, and a new power cord and adapter. Its a BCOK serial, i did put a little note saying that it is the second RMA and if they can just replace the tablet with a new batch. It started acting up like that since the .21 update. Updating is like playing russian roulette and this tablet has already shot itself twice now.
Try, plugging it into the charger, and then turning it on. This happens to mine on the very rare occasions that the battery dies nd I have to charge from off.

Hi! Reposting (sort of) from the official lockups thread, but since my issue might not really be related to ICS I thought I might ask for help here instead:
Ok. So I had my Prime docked the whole night, not charging. This morning I checked for mails at about 8.00am (dock battery > 90%, tab battery > 80%) then wanted to check again at 10.30am and it was just turned off.
I tried to turn in on again but it wouldn't show anything, not even a short vibrate or something. The only thing that still tells me there is any life is the small LED in the power button that blinks twice when I plug the tablet to the power cord or when I hold down the power button.
I've already tried basically anything I could find on the interwebs, including:
- Reset button in hole with a paper clip; pressed it only for a second, for 5 seconds, 30 seconds, you name it
- Power button for 1,5,30 seconds, 3 seconds afterwards ...
- Vol down + power button for 1,5,30 seconds ...
Still nothing. Left it on the charger for now though the LED doesn't show any sign of charging. Power supply does work on the dock where the LED turned green because it's obviously completely charged.
Did I miss anything? Did I get the .13 firmware overnight without me doing anything and now it just wouldn't wake from sleep? Do I have to send it in?
I want to add that lockups got more frequent during last week but I could always boot again after a few minutes OR when I plugged in the power cord, even though the battery wasn't nearly dry before the lockup.
Read: I didn't have reboots, I had crashes that felt like an overheating issue known from the PC world but those crashes NEVER happened while charging, no matter what I threw at the tablet.
Edit: tab was in power savings mode.
Edit 2: For what it's worth - C1 serial number, 0215 tablet, 4.0.3, .11 firmware (at least yesterday), never rooted/modded/whatevered.
Edit 3: I just realized I made this thread in General instead of Q&A ... Can this be moved to the appropriate section please?
Nobody? Another user had this issue once and after 5 hours of charging his device just could be rebooted. I've been charging for more than 7 hours now and still no vital signs.
Has anybody else experienced this?
Unfortunately the situation sounds pretty bleak to me.

Havoqq, same thing just happened to me exactly as you described. Already have a RMA number but was seeing if you found out any info regarding a fix? Thanks
Is anyone still working on this thread????
Thinking a battery pull
after reformatting /dev/block/mmcblk0 to fat32
i got
Code:
cant mount /sdcard
from CWM. CWM doesnt like fat32 i guess.
but then i stupidly did factory reset (on stock rom) which made me lose CWM.
so my TF201 now doesnt register with ADB and FASTBOOT, yet it does go into FASTBOOT mode. It also shows up in device manager, so its not a driver problem. Therefore its not a brick IMHO. i have been switching between mac and windows.
Currently my solution is to drain the battery. im hoping for the best. but also thinking of a battery pull. is this worth the effort? Do you think that will work?

Hi this may be related to the problem I have had. how long did you hold the power button down for? when I had this I too thought that it was terminal but I kept the power button held down for about 20 seconds and then it came on.
There have been a few threads about this issue and since trying the suggestion on there I've not had the problem any longer.
this worked for me :-
goto Settings > ASUS Customized Setting > BATTERY SAVING and uncheck MobileDock Battery saving mode. credit to SimonSaysDie for the solution.
Good luck
My friend that I bought the Asus prime for, asked me if I could take a look at his prime.
Here is the screnario:
Listening to radio station app, screen went to sleep while the radio was still playing and he tried holding the power button down and nothing worked to reboot or wake up the prime. The Prime was left playing to drain down the battery. It has all its recent updates (.15), not rooted, and not unlocked. When I looked at it, I charged it up, I can see the light and turned green to full battery status. I can feel the prime vibrate as I hold the power button, I tried volume + power hold, tried the hard reset with the paper clip hearing the click next to the sd card slot holding it for 10-30 seconds. The laptop can see the folder in the prime as i hold the power button and also disconnects when i power down. ordered 12-28 from best buy so the return window has expired and its a BC0K serial number.
Anybody find a solution with a black screen prime that just vibrates and can be seen on the laptop before I send it for an RMA?
Was there any shock to the device? A small bump or anything, it sounds like the ribbon cable for the screen has become disconnected, there are some reports of this on the forums.

This + have you went into recovery?
maybe try draining the battery again then charging up. ive seen a few post issue like this. if screen connection didn't break, then letting it drain again and charging up might fix it. good luck!
Actually, the prime was already drained maybe a total of 3 times. There was no shock to the device as it was working with the radio app on and when it was being listened to while it was on the bed, the screen went into sleep and could not wake up no matter what button was being pushed so the prime was left to drain its battery. My friend didnt know how to reboot, so he decided to left the battery to drain. Could the radio playing + sleep of death + battery drainage caused the permanent screen sleep? Too bad I dont have the micro hdmi connector to see if i can isolate the screen as the problem.
yup the micro hdmi would help a lot probably. But if your PC recognizes it I suggest you back up data that you need then try to do a blind factory reset so you can get rid of any non oem app installed including that radio app if any of them is whats causing the screen not to turn on.
1. Hold volume down then press and hold power.
2. When you feel it vibrate (this could take up to 10 seconds if the tablet was already on) wait another 5 seconds and then release both buttons.
3. After you release wait another 5 seconds (dont wait too long here or it will reboot on its own if you dont select anything after about 10 seconds) then press volume down 1 time and volume up 2 times.
4. The tablet will factory wipe and after another 10 seconds it will reboot.
If the tablet still wont turn on then you got another issue and that isnt caused by the radio app or any other app.
Didnt work. It just vibrated and the screened stayed black... Im wrapping this puppy up and bringing shipping it to the repair center. Thanks anyways.
Vibrates when power button is held but wont turn on
My Prime also has the basic problem. I use it daily for about 3 to 4 hours, reading replying to e-mails and web browsing. While I was reading, the volume started going up on its own and I noticed that even after I put in standby mode, the battery discharged so I shut it down completely.
After that I could not turn it on. When I hold down the power button it vibrates bit the screen does not come on even after I fully charged till the led turns green.

Had to RMA back to Asus for them to fix the display and it took about a week. Warranty covered it, but if you do RMA ask them to ship you a shipping label. You shouldnt have to pay for shipping it to them for a manufacturer defect. And take pics and videos of the tablet and packing for your safety. They just need the tablet and nothing else. Good luck
Asus is F-ing with my endorphines...
I've had my TF201 since March 30th. Been using it for 1 week and it suddenly went dead (nothing on the screen, no vibration if I held the power button down). Tried everything I could find on the forums, it didn't work so I sent it to repairs (not immediately, cuz I had more important stuff to do). They kept it for almost 3 weeks, got it back this last Monday (May 21st) and... it died out on me again yesterday night (after just 3 days of use, congratulations ASUS technicians!). I was simply browsing and I clicked on the icon to increase the luminosity to the maximum supported (IPS+, I was charging it at the time) and the screen suddently went black. Like "nothing visible on it" black.
After that, I tried numerous times to reset it (including the volume+power down, according to the indications in this thread) - all I could get from it was the vibration as if it starts. Nothing else popping up on the screen. I plugged it this morning into my computer and it got somehow recognized, cuz my W7 tried installing drivers for it (even tho it had recognized the tablet again after it came from repairs and I already had drivers for it installed) but failed with the error "APX - no driver found".
I've had enough. Two months already and only one week and half of actual use. It's pathetic, ASUS needs to be taught a lesson, so I'm calling Consumer Protection in my country and the European Consumer Protection Comission. All the forums that I've surfed are filled with reports of broken units and ASUS will just tell you "if you have a valid warranty we'll repair it for free". I DON'T ****ING NEED regular repairs every 2 weeks!!! I need a functional tablet that I can use or give me my money back!
I'll post the results of my tribulations here...
I had a user that suffered the blank screen.
When you think it's presumably on. Try a paperclip to the reset hole on the left side. His came back up at that point and hasn't done it again since.
Never had this happen on mine.
I've had my prime since day one and have not had any problems. So finally I buy the keyboard dock, charge it, and after using the Prime with the dock last night, I closed it, and set it on the counter. I get up this morning and opened the Prime, and it wont turn on. I push the power button, and it wont turn on. I detach from dock, and the Prime still wont turn on. So me thinking that the battery is dead, I hook it up to the charger, the green light on the power button comes on, I push it to turn on the Prime, and it still doesn't power up. It's been on the charger for the last hour and a half, and I periodically go over to turn it on, but am not successful. So now, what do I do? Who do I contact? You guys have any ideas?

I have also had this where the prime will not power up until I remove the charger from the dock and put it directly into the prime. It then powered up first time and was fully charged.
I have only ever had this happen once tho.
Try placing charger directly into prime and hold power button down for 10 seconds if this fails.
Cold boot and placing on charger did not fix the problem. So, I let it charge for 2 hours, and tried that. I didn't help. I than proceeded to cold boot again, holding - volume and power button down. The prime proceeded to boot back up. Very odd problem. But nevertheless, it's back to being operational. Weird thing is, that it showed the Prime as being 100% charged. When I closed it last night, I had 83%. I don't think in the 8 hours it could've drained the Prime completely causing the problem seeing as how it was connected to the dock. Thanks for the info guys!
It probably didn't sometimes the prime doesn't turn on right away and I have to hold the power button for like 10-20 seconds, once it vibrates you know it's turning on. Also I remove from charger or dock if this happens.
16 gb Nook Tablet running sgt7 12/10 build on emmc.
Will only charge when unit is turned completely off.
Any suggestions?
I have the same problem, I am running 0.6 ROM. Any help greatly appreciated.

I'm not sure that I've seen it fail to charge. But I have seen some oddities with each CM10 ROM I tried.
What I do is plug it in while the tab is asleep (The LED is usually green). Normally the tablet will wake and the LED will turn amber. Then I press the power button to put it back to sleep.
I say "normally" because with one ROM it doesn't wake when I connect the charger.
By "oddities" I mean I think the battery stats are getting wacked, but I haven't been able to isolate it, yet.

While the power is on with mine, the charging light is green no matter how low the battery.
When I turn off the power the light turns orange & the battery charges.
My nook tablet also will not charger after a completely clean install of the 12/10 ROM. It shows that it's charging, and the cable is orange, but it doesn't actually do anything unless I power it down completely after plugging it in. Also, the n button doesn't take me to the screen set as default home screen, but to screen 1 instead, all the way over to the left, but installed app icons are installed to the correct screen.
The no charging thing is a big deal for me. It makes this ROM basically useless since I can't use it while it's charging. That means you can forget about heavy use. Everything else about it is awesome but once it's dead I'm stuck reading books on my phone while I wait hours for it to recharge.
Update:
Not sure what caused it, but last night I accidentally shut my nook tablet down before plugging it in, which made it come back on, then I shut it down again. Since waking it this morning, it is plugging in and charging as intended. No idea why, but it does indeed seem to be working fine now, other than the previously mentioned home screen issue.
Try a new cable.

Between my kids and me totaling two cables already. I ended up duct taping around the 3rd cable so that it would fill the gap between the surface of the table and plug which made it more solid. I cut of square so to see the nook charging led. I would try plugin in from in store cable or someone else that has a nook if it would eliminate that as a possibility.

i am having a similar issue, but my cable's led is always green no matter if the tablet is on or off. already tried a different cable and the same issue. also tried a different ac adapter, still the same thing. i wonder why.... any ideas?
UPDATE: tablet does charge just fine when it is off, however the LED is still green while the tablet is off. Weird... hard to say if its software or hardware issue now...
My tf201 seems to have gone into a bricked state. It crashed while my son was playing a game on it. Instead of restarting it never came back up. Thinking that the battery may have run out I plugged it into the AC charger overnight. While connected I could see an orange LED by the power button glow.
Now I can't get it to start. When I hold doen the power button, it vibrates for a several seconds but the screen remains completely blank.
Unfortunately I no longer have a USB cable for it. Is it worth buying one on the off chance it can be recovered?
