Avoid roaming - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is there a way to block the phone from roaming (not referring to data roaming)? I tried setting it to WCDMA ONLY but it keeps switching back to Auto.

Disable HSPA/3G, leave only EDGE/GPRS etc?

From what I've read, it's possible to to disable the high speed connection and leave only EDGE and other slow connection by change network mode to GSM only. However when I tried that on mine, I lost all connections altogether include voice call, and left with "unregistered sim, emergency call only". My carrier is CDMA, so not sure if that has anything with it.
What am I missing here?
Hspa 3g only on gsm system.
For cdma you have 1x and evdo..don't know if you can disable evdo or not. Please see setting/wireless & networks

[Q] data roam guard message

Other than disabling data roaming or switching roms, is there any way to disable the data roam guard message? I'm in a very fuzzy signal location where my phone switches to and from roaming at least 30 times a day and that message is extremely annoying. I'd have an airrave set up, but this is at work and I'm 99% sure that they wouldn't allow that.

Click to collapse
Uncheck the box for "Data Roaming Sound", go into "Roaming Guards" and uncheck "Voice" and "Data" under Domestic. You'll never see a message again.
I have to do this as well at home, got an Airave coming too.
edit - I'm guessing you may not know where to go to do this. It's under Settings>Wireless & networks>Mobile networks

Disabling ALL roaming?

It's relatively easy to disable data roaming on an Android device in the "Wireless & networks" settings section, but the phone still tries to connect to other services via roaming like voice and SMS. Is there a way to disable ALL roaming whatsoever? I know about airplane mode, but that completely disables all connectivity, and it's also annoying to have to remember to keep turning airplane mode off and on again when I enter/leave the vicinity of this network. I'd like to be able to connect to my network but not allow any roaming.
Why disable? Becuase the network offering the roaming isn't one I trust, as I think it may be intercepting and recording my data. So I don't want my phone to use it.
It seems Windows Mobile has a relatively straightforward to do this by selecting "Don't roam". If Android doesn't have any option to do this (no, not Airplane mode - that disables ALL comms!), then that is a rather annoying lack of a feature!
This might not be the answer you are looking for but your operator should provide some means to prevent roaming completely; your phone then would not be able to access any other network for any service apart from emergency call.

force phone to switch to gsm when lte signal is weak?

as the title suggests is there anyway this is possible? i have the network mode set to lte/wcdma/gsm auto connect but the issue is that i live in an area with low lte coverage and the phone will not switch to gsm mode even when the lte signal is close to none which causes sms not to be delivered and i don't recieve phone calls and it causes a huge battery drain on idle when i go to sleep and wake up with the phone even off sometimes..the issue is gone when i switch to gsm only but it is a pain to constantly go back and forth between switching networks any suggestions?

4G/3G Issues

My phone will go from 4G to 3G randomly. When I go into APN it's says Verizon Internet isn't check and checking it does nothing. The only fix I've found to keep APN checked is switching network mode from Global to LTE/CDMA or LTE/GMS/UMTS. Is there a way to keep Verizon Internet checking without having to switch network modes every time?
