Why do you want to re-name the SD card?
Unmount and remount the SD card, perhaps? Or format via recovery, if rooted?
Is it SDXC or SDHC?
SDXC might cause problems sometimes - exFAT, FAT32 and all that jazz.

I think you need to read this from Chainfire: www.chainfire.eu/articles/113/Is_Google_blocking_apps_writing_to_SD_cards_/

screwed!

I could access mine. Just go to mnt/EXTSDcard.
I can't move apps to it though, like everyone else...

Running CM7 From External SD but have SD card Error

I'm running CM7 from an external SD Card but have a SD card Error in the notification bar while running. I also have a large portion of the card as dead space. Any suggestions?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1005633
1) Read this link 1st and make sure your card is fast enough!!
If it's not a Sandisk card, good luck!
2) Do a complete format of the card, followed by a sector-by-sector scan to check for errors if you really want to know if there's any problems there that happen to exist.

Are you able to access the contents of your SD card storage at all?

Haven't added anything to it after making the CM7 boot disk cause I'm not sure how with it partitioned 4 ways. I am able to download apps ect and data is saved even if I reboot the device.

External SD Card won't mount?

So I had a 16 gb external sd card in my rezound, realized that I would like more space so I bought a 32 gb card. The new card worked for about a week and no longer works. I have an sd card exploring app and it sees the files on the card but my phone does not even recognize the card is inserted.
Another thing to mention is that with the old card, my phone would not display the available space on it or give me the options to unmount and mount. Now when I put both of these cards in an sd card reader and insert them into my desktop the computer does not see that a card has been inserted. I have checked it with other mini SDs that I have and the computer sees them, so I don't know what gives! Any ideas??
P.S. I am running on the ICS 3.14.605.10 RUU
Sounds like you have a bad card, can you format it?

Well the weird thing is that both the stock and the card I bought are doing the same thing. And I tried formatting, but since I can't view the cards on my computer or phone I have no way of formatting.

I have the same almost problem, I have to manually mount the SD card after every reboot, but it does recognize it after mounting.

If you have TWRP or Amon, mount USB storage and format from your computer.

I have the exact same problem. I tried switching cards and formatted the new one before I put everything on it. It still is missing after every reboot...Annoying, but at least it's still there....
Not sure if this is the issue but it may help to try:
If you are on GB firmware and running an ICS rom, download and flash this in recovery. It is a GB firmware patch and after you flash it, sd card mounting problems are fixed.

How did you format the card? It is a known issue that ExFat Formatting on 64G cards will NOT work on the SGSIII and you have to format your card as Fat32.
Try and format the card on your computer as Fat32 and it should work.
It's because the 64gb sandisk is formatted by default as exFat, which is not supported by CWM
The only solution to this is to remformat the card, probably at fat32 as this is the most widely used but BACKUP ALL YOUR DATA FROM extSD FIRST!! as reformatting will wipe the card
Then CWM will recognise this as normal
Mind you fat32 does have its disadvantages, mainly that you won't be able t have a single file bigger then 4gb on it
eh more than 4gb? then whats point of having 64gb SDcard?
i didnt know that was issue with the s3 will there be exFat support in CWM? its really frustrating
Thanks for replies
It's not an issue with the S3 I believe, it's just CWM -no idea if it will be updated to support it though :S
The 4gb thing only means that any one file cannot be bigger then 4gb e.g. you couldn't have a movie file that is 4.5gb in size.
Really it's no problem to have it as fat32 unless you have seriously big files

It is unknown at this time if ExFat will be properly supported but I would assume that at some point it may be. Also, just in case you dont already know, The SGSIII is NOT capable of moving apps to the ExtSD card natively either so if that is one of the reasons you bought such a big card, I hate to "bring you down".
There are some methods to switch your internal and external SD cards to assist in this issue but you will have to search and read the threads to find out the methods.
Just so you know...
yeah i know that i just backup using appcontrol and then move them to exSD
thats quite helpful i didnt know all this else i'd have not given up my 32gb card its quite lame TBH!
cheers for the help least i wont keep formatting my sd card now lol

[Q] Any way to disable SD Card emulation?

My phone has alot of build in memory, so it emulates an SD card. But that runs out of space fast.
I have an SD card in it now, but it's mounted as sdcard2.
Can I disable the emulated SD card and make it goto the real sd card?
I can't move apps to the sd card because the sd card is emulated. Programs like link2sd don't give me the option to choose where I want to install to. It just chooses /mnt/sd card, which is the emulated card, not /mnt/sdcard2, which is the real one.

it does not emulate an sdcard. all android devices recognise internal memory as an sdcard. externals cards are recognised as sdcard2, external_sd or sd-ext. its perfectly normal for it to be like that

Reread my question. You didn't answer it.

I know this is about a month old, but I figured I'd chime in in case you're still having the issue.
No, there isn't a way to disable the SD card emulation. At least not that I've found. Only thing I found that works was to root my phone, partition a portion of a 32gig sd card and use Link2SD to use that as the default install location.
The instructions I followed:
http://www.noypigeeks.com/android/tutorial-a-guide-to-link2sd/
Again this requires a rooted phone, but seeing as you run the same phone I do (if your signature is accurate) it's not a problem. Just follow the instructions at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40121670 Took me less than 10 minutes.
That seems to have worked, Thanks!

The only working way for me is to install cyanogenmod 13 which will give you the opportunity to mount your second storage (sd card) as internal storage (first).

[Q] External sd card problem after aokp flash

So I recently rooted my Verizon Note II, rooted with casual and twrp. I flashed the milestone version of aokp and for some reason cannot mount my external sd card. I get an error message that says "sd card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem". The sd card was working fine on my rooted phone before flashing aokp. Any ideas?

Its my understanding some Roms dont support exFat, a file system format used by SD Cards. you should try backing up the data and then formatting it to fat32.

thanks for the advice. It seems like aokp can reformat the card itself, but I'm a little afraid to let it try. I was also just reading about using siyah kernal and another thing called vold-exfat that lets you use an exfat formatted card. I think I'm gonna do one of these two things but it seems easiest to let aokp reformat my card if it will actually reformat my 64gb sd to fat32. I haven't been able to find out what it will reformat to though... very confusing

It won't reformat a 64GB card right. Download something likr EaseUS or another formatting tool. There is one that is posted on XDA quite a bit but for the life of me I can't remember its name.
