[Q] External sd card problem after aokp flash - Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note II

So I recently rooted my Verizon Note II, rooted with casual and twrp. I flashed the milestone version of aokp and for some reason cannot mount my external sd card. I get an error message that says "sd card is blank or has an unsupported filesystem". The sd card was working fine on my rooted phone before flashing aokp. Any ideas?

Its my understanding some Roms dont support exFat, a file system format used by SD Cards. you should try backing up the data and then formatting it to fat32.

thanks for the advice. It seems like aokp can reformat the card itself, but I'm a little afraid to let it try. I was also just reading about using siyah kernal and another thing called vold-exfat that lets you use an exfat formatted card. I think I'm gonna do one of these two things but it seems easiest to let aokp reformat my card if it will actually reformat my 64gb sd to fat32. I haven't been able to find out what it will reformat to though... very confusing

It won't reformat a 64GB card right. Download something likr EaseUS or another formatting tool. There is one that is posted on XDA quite a bit but for the life of me I can't remember its name.

Can this be the cause of all my trouble.

i had my 8gb sd card working perfect.. all of a sudden it had stopped working.. wouldnt read at all in my phone, but in my girlfriends phone ( which isnt android ) it reads perfectly.
now, while flashing a new rom and clearing data.. i had this come up..
Formatting /sd-ext...

this was happening on my last sd card, after this started happening, i couldnt access anything on the card. So ive now changed to a 2gb card. havnt made an sd ext yet. so is that why ?
happened to me as well, SD got corrupted, it can be read from a pc, but cannot change the contents thus cannot re-format, luckily i can copy it, then bought a new one, problem solved, phone is working fine again.

I think this is normal for sd card without ext partition.
have you try to un-mount and mount the sd-card?
can the sc card be read from recovery?

mounting it from cwm ? nope i havnt tried that.
Im not having any troubles at the moment with this new SD Card. I just wanted to try and get the old 8gb sd working. having 2gb isnt enough for all my music and apps.
Ive formatted the old sd card. but it still shows as having 6gb.. so 2 gb missing ? AND.. i can put it in my girlfriends phone, and load it up on the computer. put anything on it i want, but it wont read in ANY phone..
Use panasonic sd formater under win.

its basically a throw away sd card now, so ill give it a shot lol.
hoping i got the right program
** tried that... didnt work. it formatted the Sd Card. but still wont read in my phone.
Also tried to Mount the SD card from Cwm. but i get
Error mounting /sdcard!
not sure if this will help anyone.. but i partitioned the sd card ages ago, all was working fine... now, after formatting, my 8gb sd card is still just nearly 6gb. so 2 gb is missing.
connect the sd card to the computer via a card reader. delete all the partitions and then format it using the fat32 system. try to read it now. if it still doesn't work try to format it using the fat system. maybe this will work.

(HELP) Anyone having issues mounting 64gb sandisk sd card on S III

Hi there guys
I have been having a problem with 3 sandisk 64gb micro sd cards. I always got them replaced but it is getting frustrating now. Obviously they are formatted in exfat format.
The problem starts when I copy data of over 30 gb. Once i copy the data n the sd is remounted or the phone is restarted i always get the message "damaged sd card" but when i read the card on pc through an adapter it shows the contents ok. So i want to know if anyone can help me so that I may not need to return the card this time around...

Try to format it first in the phone, then start loading data on it.

I also tried it buddy but none of the methods seem to work .. i also tried formatting it then copying data through sd card reader as well as the phone itself... does it have to do anything with some file system issue or kernel related issue... im on stock kernel rooted...

also had the same problem. i formatted the card to fat32 with 32xxx sectors with "GUIFORMAT" app for windows, the it works ok.
then after fat conversion, you can try to format the card to exfat using any app (not the windows one) search google, then it might work, didnt try myself as fat32 works great, and i can use it with the script that makes the card the phone memory, so now i got 64gb instead of 11.6gb of phone storage

where formatted?
how much fully card with data?
witch rom, kernel?
I have the class 10 64Gb Sandisk sd card too with no problems.
Card has about 55Gb info on it and I didn't format the card. Just put it into the phone. Recognised instantly and haven't looked back.
I have a 2nd SGSIII too with a 64gb class 6 sandisk sd card. Same applies but with a little less data on it.

Why do you want to re-name the SD card?
Unmount and remount the SD card, perhaps? Or format via recovery, if rooted?
Is it SDXC or SDHC?
SDXC might cause problems sometimes - exFAT, FAT32 and all that jazz.

[Q] CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies SD card format

Flashed the 20130128 nightly coming from Jelly Beans. When I rebooted the phone the (empty) 64gb SD Card was "damaged". I tried to format it via the phone and that didn't help.
After looking into other posts I keep seeing that it needs to be formatted as a FAT32 but that this wasn't recommended for cards 32gb and higher. Is there anything special I need to do after flashing 4.2??
Thanks for the help...
-Chris
There is nothing wrong about reformatting the Sd card to FAT32. You just lose the ability to transfer files over the size of 4GB. You're going to need to reformat the sdcard on your pc by using a third party program.
AOSP ROMs do not support exFAT.

[Q] Can't Mount External SD Card (64GB) in Recovery?

I am having some very weird issues with my SD card. I had a Samsung 64GB SD card that was behaving normally. I was actually able to see items in the SD card while in recovery. However, it was not allowing me to install any ROMs from it (they would just immediately fail). After that, it would not longer mount in Recovery. It would still show up on the computer when using MTP, but something happened and it got corrupted. I tried everything to bring it back to life, but nothing I found worked.
I then bought another 64GB SD card, this time a SanDisk. It too can be seen through MTP, but the SD card won't allow me to mount it in Recovery at all.
The only way I can flash ROMs is by using the internal SD card. That doesn't bother me, but I wonder if why this is happening. I suspect it has something to do with being a 64GB card...
Any help would be much appreciated!
If you have the SD card formatted exfat and you are using clockworkmod for recovery that would be the reason.
CWM recovery won't read exfat.

Had a feeling it might be that. I'll switch to another and give it a shot.
Any reason why it wouldn't mount while in a custom ROM? I'm using LiquidSmooth right now and it won't allow the SD card to mount. Just doesn't see it for whatever reason...

That would be kernel dependent.

There are a lot of kernels out there, find one that is compatible with exfat and you will solve that problem.
I have had good luck with faux kernel myself.

Solved use 64gb sd in recovery!

Your problem is not kernel or ROM based, but as noted, it is Custom Recovery Based. Due to legal resons, they cannot support ExFAT and I have tried NTFS. Use EASEUS PARTITION MANAGER TO FORMAT INTO FAT32 THEN RECOVERY WILL RECOGNIZE 64GB SANDISK SD CARD!!!! PLEASE HIT THANKS IF I SOLVED YOUR PROBLEM

ChronicKernel --- THANKS CK for the only AOSP kernel i could find that worked with CM!(Everything else was TW) Fast charge should be standerd in custom rom kernels......
