That's because the victims will not read to understand what needs to be done. All they do is rushing into what they do not understand. They just take the easiest route to rooting their phone.

[Q] How to put roms on etc

hi all i just got my galaxy s2 today and have no idea where to start with putting a rom on ot anything. so any help would be great thanks
First you need to be rooted(your phone not you)and then go to the Development section and you will find a list of different ROMs.Its a matter of finding what you want in a ROM and downloading and trying each one.Usually the ROM page has the download and install instructions writen on it.You need to be rooted to have CWM.Ill leave a link to my ROM so you can see what I mean.Below the different ROM versions you will see install instructions. If your not sure what root is let me know
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290468
Spend some time using your phone to get used to It before flashing. This will give you a better idea of what you like and don't like about it.
Armed with that info you can read up on each custom Rom to see if they offer what you want.
Read read and when you think you are ready to flash read some more.

X2 read alot, play with the phone, figure things out. There is so much to learn so you don't turn your phone into a brick. Rooting means you become a superuser, you take ownership so you can customize your phone.

Please don't even think about flashing a custom rom or rooting your phone until you're comfortable/confident enough to do it without making posts like this.
I have seen so many people in your situation on here stuff their phone up over the last few weeks because they were in too much of a hurry to mess with their phone.
AceOfClubs (and others) has given you good advice, heed it :-|
Read the CFRoot thread until you are so confident with rooting the phone that you could do it in your sleep, and then root your phone with the CFRoot kernel that corresponds to your current stock kernel. Not before.
From there, read the various development threads about different roms/kernels, get to know the various features/advantages of each (and ask questions if necessary...about the rom/kernel itself, not the process of flashing same) and then when you've settled on a rom or kernel and you're completely confident about the flashing process, flash it.
Doing this will mean you'll get it right the first time. This will result in:-
A) You not posting yet another "OMG mah fone is teh brikked helpz !" thread.
B) You not having to do without using your phone for x days (weeks) should you mess it up.
Clear ? Good

Root is changing the kernel in your phone to give you super user access which is needed to flash ROMs and firmwares. Also along with flashing there are other things to read up on like an EFS/IMEI file backups which are vital, also nandroid and Titanium backups. As you can see there are alot of good people here willing to help with good advice and all are correct in saying that you shouldnt rush into things.Take your time, read up and dont be afraid to ask questions.Play with your phone and when you know it well enough and have seen enough threads on what and what not to do then you can take the first step and root.First read up on rooting then EFS/IMEI backups and why they are needed. The rest will come in time.Id rather see you here asking questions and not in another thread saying "Help I just bricked my phone!!"

[Q] New to Android - Need Advice (Rooting and Firmware)

Hi, I will be getting this phone today (i9100 unlocked) and have a couple of questions on how to proceed onwards. Any help would be greatly appreciated
1. What is the best firmware and rooted kernel for me to go on?
I want the absolute simpilest way to root my phone (total beginner) and I don't know what firmware I will have when I receive it, I also don't know if I should stay on a gingerbread firmware or go to ics? I also don't care if it is official or custom as long as I'm not sacraficing stability. If possible I would like a rom that is good for battery life. I also want to root my phone in the safest way. There are so many tutorials I didn't know where to start
2. What are some of the essential rooted apps and how do you install them? Through superuser or market?
3. What are the risks involved with a standard flashing/root because I'm getting my phone second hand I don't have warranty.
Thanks for all your help!
Edit: I just say a sticky saying not to ask what roms are the best so I'm sorry if I broke a rule. I just literally have no idea where to start, I've never even used android before. I've found so many methods of rooting and roms but most seem outdated. I would just like someone to point me in the right direction of the up to date way. Sorry if I'm really not supposed to ask!

Superuser is not used to install apps, you would either download them from the market or manually install the .apks

Rooting your phone would void the warranty anyway and bricking is probably your biggest risk.

Believe me, I tried, but there are so many options, also, I've now decided to opt for a locked virgin i9100 bcause it was 50 bucks more for a new phone with the warranty, so what's the best way to unlock one? I think I recall a free app.

You already have a thread started here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1678937

"Your device does not support software upgrading via kies."

I already searched this and there were only 3 results. All pretty much said "Upgrade from official GB".
Plugging my phone into Kies produces the error message "Your device does not support software upgrading via kies."
Not sure how to fix this.
I'm on completely stock, official KK6. Not rooted.
Kies displays
PDA: KK6 Phone: KK6 CSC: KK6
Trying to get the device onto ICS to return for warranty as that's what the warranty center suggested to fix my problem.
Help really appreciated, pretty confused
I was able to fix the problem. Here's a small guide.
Flashes bootloader. Dangerous. This is a roll of the dice. You could very well end up with a useless phone. Seriously. Take this into consideration.
Download:
AT&T official UCLE5: http://www.hotfile.com/dl/160521955/8de1076/I777UCLE5_I777ATTLE5_ATT.zip.html
Don't trust me? http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/ search i777 and download the newest firmware; you'll have to register.
Odin: http://dl.xda-developers.com/attach...72c055d2/503d172d/5/8/1/9/1/3/Odin3-v1.85.zip
Samsung Kies(If you don't have i777 drivers): http://www.samsung.com/us/kies/
0) Put device into download mode
(Phone off, NOT plugged in, hold vol up + vol down and while holding those two keys plug the USB cable from your computer to your phone.)
1) Unzip the Official UCLE5 file
2_ Open up ODIN, in the white box all the way to the left it should say something like
0:[COM5]
Click to collapse
. Your numbers maybe different depending on what port your i777 is situated on.
3) In the bottom right section of the program you'll see buttons that say "Bootloader, PDA, Phone, CSC"
Click PDA, and navigate to your unzipped UCLE5.tar.md5 file.
Click start, let it run.

To shut them up I told them my phone was running ICS because he was asking if i'd upgraded, because that could fix my problem.
I told him the phone was on ICS, so wouldn't it be a little odd if I returned the phone I claimed was on ICS with a GB ROM? I mean I doubt they check this and wouldn't care, but that message I'm getting in Kies is telling me that it must be detectable that my phone was previously modified.
I tried to upgrade to ICS prior to sending it back but Kies is junk. No matter what I did the phone wouldn't connect to it. The one time it did, it wouldn't go for the upgrade. So I sent it back with 2.3.4. I don't have patience to sit hours to get a stupid update to work just for them to wipe it when the get it.
If you flashed to stock without root and have no flash counter, I don't see how they can see you were modified. Unless you indeed flashed the rooted package or have a flash counter.
Removed.
