Returning to Stock Telus - HTC Amaze 4G

Hows it going everyone,
I've been gone for a while, and decided I'd like to try going complete stock Telus again. Could someone explain the process of doing so? I've done some digging around and have found a couple links that could help such as:
[Collection] HTC Ruby/Amaze 4G Stock ROMs (RUUs & OTAs): http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25761360
[Updated 7-12]✚ The Ultimate Guide to Everything Amaze-ing! Help us update the wiki!✚: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679486
Telus Amaze Kernel 3.0 Source Code: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1762487
From what I've looked up, I believe I need the RUU and OTA from here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=25761360
Is it as simply as flashing the OTA/RUU and locking the bootloader again? I'm sure this question has been asked many times before, and sorry, I'm a complete noob .
Thanks in advance.

Huh, also found this by Dark Nightmare: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27058110&postcount=44
Is it really that simple as just downloading the Flashable ZIP, then putting stock recovery using Hansoons tool kit?
Where can I find the stock recovery? Currently have 4EXT.

I have the stock recovery linked at the bottom of that post, flash the telus flashable zip to return to stock, then the stock recovery is attached at the bottom if you wanna return that to stock as well.

Awesome thanks! Than once thats done, re-lock the bootloader? And RUU is the recovery? This is the link, right? http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/HTC_Amaze_4G/ROMs#Stock_ROMs
^^ Ignore that. I can't read. Thanks for the information! Greatly appreciate it.

We have no stock RUU for telus ICS, so flashable zip is our only method at the moment.

I'm going to upload Stock ROMs that I rooted and Deodexed. Anyone can use it as a base to develop or modify. All I ask is that you give me credit. That's all.
I will add all the ICS Bases. Just give me some time to do so.

Telus ICS 2.14.661.2

Thank you hasoon2000, I'm looking forward to the Telus base. Is there any special steps for deodexing? I know some people ran into issues with that when ICS dropped.
Deodexing Amaze ICS
Deodexing Amaze ICS
baksmali-1.3.3.jar or compile latest from source.
Add com.android.vcard.VCardComposer.jar to /framework (missing dependency)
Check init.rc for BOOTCLASSPATH is probably;
Code:
core.jar:core-junit.jar:bouncycastle.jar:ext.jar:framework.jar:framework2.jar:android.policy.jar:services.jar:apache-xml.jar:HTCDev.jar:HTCExtension.jar:com.htc.framework.jar:filterfw.jar:com.htc.android.bluetooth.jar:wimax.jar:com.orange.authentication.simcard.jar
Use API level 15
dsixda's kitchen will deodex (if baksmali.jar is updated and missing dependency is added to /framework) the files but some will need to be done manually, adding missing paths (usually com.android.vcard.VCardComposer.jar) also read errors and/or check init.rc
There should be no errors other than ims-service.apk, which has one path that can be skipped AFAIK

Yes they can tell. This Rom will be deodexed. Stock is odexed. You might be better off flashing the Videotron RUU. But depending on what you're doing.. if you're going to send the phone in for repairs then they can tell for sure.
Ok thank you I am going to flash the OTA in this case

If you still need this I'm happy to help, are you asking that we reflash the RUU, do the OTA, flash unlocked HBOOT, flash recovery, wipe cache/dalvik/data then nandroid? I just want to make sure I'm getting you EXACTLY what you want.

Here, let me know if you need me to do anything else.
Flash this like a normal ROM or do I have to go back to relock, flash official update then root again. S-On
Nevermind, flashed in Recovery. I'm back to stock.
is there one from WindMobile?
Which one is technically the latest and probably with the most recent updates? Does anybody know how they are different one from another? Different camera apps? I assume since they are rooted and deodexed I can install any one of them from custom recovery without any problems as long as I'm super cid, is that right?

I'm not sure which one was released last but I do know that the Telus one is unbranded and I haven't had any problems with it at all, it's very stable, I recommend that one. That being said I believe there is something wrong with the one posted now as he requested a fresh nandroid to redo it. I gave him one, just waiting for him to have time to redo it and update the OP. If you're going to use that one then you may want to wait for him to update it.
I think the T-Mobile one has a different camera app I believe but the rest should be the same, afaik. Personally, I use the HD Camera Mod by NODOGT that Dark Nightmare modded for the Amaze and that works great.
As for being able to install any of these, you can. SuperCID is only necessary when you're flashing something to the phone in an "official" way such as through HBOOT or stock recovery. Even without SuperCID you'd be able to flash any of these zips because you flash them "unofficially" aka through custom recovery.

Installing ICS - Is this the right procedure?

Would this be the right procedure? I was reading the wiki and want to ask..
I would do the following...
(I am rooted; BulletProof 2.5.. Android 2.3.4 - Tmobile)
1) Follow this tutorial to unroot and get back to stock:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=27058110&postcount=44
2) Follow this tutorial to install ICS
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=26865752&postcount=27
3) AND...Then... I will be unrooted..
How would I root again on ICS?
So is this the right procedure??
and what would I do for (#3)?

You don't necessarily need to use my OTA tutorial if you're gonna restore to complete stock GB, then you can just download the file via the software update option on your phone and let it install the update itself, the guy above answered your final question already.

, go for it then. If you're on tmobile, there's a file that can be used as a PH85IMG to update instead, that may be a bit easier if the OTA is iffy.

Relocked is the same and when attempting s-off, stock rooted rom is a better call, it saves you the hassle that custom roms may cause.
I mean the MD5 sums fail on both PHP8img w/e name... and the nand backup to restore to original ginger garbage.. so I think it's because I have to relock my bootloader by doing OEM_lock or whatever the command is.
do I have to lock bootloader to go back to stock?
and also.. do I need to flash the original kernel?
come on.. someone answer me please... I will make a REALLY good tutorial noob proof for everyone else when I finish doing this.

I was also having problems with my downloads so I downloaded thru my phone. I also found that I had better luck downloading straight from football's account on file factory. You can find his account on stock roms collection page 5 snargaflab post where it says "here"
Hope this helps, as far as locking bootloader when s on I think you do have to lock bootloader. If nobody is helping I suggest you try it out.

Lock your bootloader via the fastboot oem lock command or use hasoon's tool to do it,
download this file here: http://d-h.st/3VD
Place that on your sd card and rename it PH85IMG do not place it in any folders, etc.
Reboot into hboot via the volume down/power button method, when your hboot finds the file, hit volume up to update, phone will reboot on it's own. You're on ICS.
Unlock your bootloader, install 4ext recovery via hasoon's tool and hit the Perm root ICS/GB option, follow all on screen instructions.
All done, official ICS and you're now rooted as well.

Currently S-ON about to go S-OFF!

I have gathered all the information needed to do the S-OFF switch. I have one main concern. I am on a custom rom. Clean Rom to be exact. Instructions state that I need to get on the "stock" rom first before I go about the procedure. I am kind of stumped here.
Any suggestions of how I can get back to "stock?"
Any comments or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

Many people have done it on custom ROMS... I had trouble initially when on CleanRom and then switched to a different computer and flashed the stock rooted GB rom, NOT the RUU and the thing ran straight through successfully. So was the ROM the problem, don't know and didnt' care, I was S-off If you have the time, flash the stock ROM before you start. If you find the rooted one, you don't have to relock then unlock the bootloader.
Make sure you use an old SD card...I had to flash a recovery and boot.img between major failures..so have those handy...hopefully you will 'sail through!!!' Good Luck. :good:

So you flashed a stock GB rom that was rooted without RUU?
Can you get the RUU afterwards if you don't flash it beforehand?

[Q] A simple, "How do I?"

Hey forum,
First off I'd like to say, I have done quite a bit of searching on this and either get caught up in endless pages of crap I don't fully understand or I just can't find the answer. My apologies if this issue is simple and out there.
With that said, I'm definitely a noob at all the rooting and ROMs for phones. I've spent 20 years using cell phones as.. well, phones! Had no idea the world that was waiting for me and the time consuming hours of research and trial and error.
So I got the Amaze and first off, wanted to root it so I used CWM which is currently running. I then get an update notification for ICS but every time I try to install it, I'm stuck at a green X logo.
Is there a way to install ICS with CWM already on my phone or do I need to remove it first? I have searched for both answers which is why I finally set up an account and created this thread.
Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated!

You might have to unroot it and install ICS firmware before upgrading to ICS roms, Im not completely sure, I might have done this the long way after reading into confusion. The shortest way to get ICS on your amaze is using 4ext to flash a rom if CWM does not work.

Thank you Hasoon! I actually wish I had seen this post earlier. I got stuck on so many different threads with users having the same exact issues and I finally was able to relock the phone. Not sure what I was doing wrong but it's all good now.
However, after relocking, I went back to stock instead of just doing the the ICS rom. As I'm typing this, my phone is in the process of of installing ICS via the OTA updater. Now I just want to root it again and move on for now. This crap is way too time consuming for me
**Edit - Is it normal for this phone to sit at the HTC Amaze 4g screen during boot for about a minute? I thought this thing booted super fast before I started messing with it

Yes - you can't just flash the rom, as flashing the RUU in the bootloader as hasoon instructed actually repartitions the phone, and writes a bunch of files you can't flash anyways unless you had s-off(like radio, etc).
And for you or the OP, please click the amaze bible in my signature, it covers all of this, it is well organized- I challenege you to find a question that isn't answered in it(hint: if the question has been asked before, and it likely has, it is answered in that bible!)

Problems restoring to stock

I converted my HTC One to a google edition by flashing the ruu, changing the modelid and cid. I tried reverting to stock sense by restoring a nandroid but when it booted to Android the touchscreen did not work. When I restored the nandroid I did not change the modelid or cic but I don't think that would have mattered. Do I need to also restore the bootloader ?

You need to restore an earlier firmware. Follow the instructions in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2355814. On page 5 i posted a firmware that replaces the same partitions (other than system) that the GPe conversion changes out. If you don't want to change you MID just change the android-info.txt file to match your current MID (PN072000) and it will flash.
Good luck...if this helps let the folks in that thread know, and as always love the thanks button.

No...just system and boot usually. You can grab cache and data too...but not the other partitions. Be scary always writing the firmware on restore. Mucking with firmware is risky business.

Alright I had the same issue as the OP touchscreen not working but got that fixed with the firmware posted and the nandroid posted thanks.
Complete HTC newb here so apologies if its been repeated or if there's already tons of threads on it, but I can't seem to find a solid all in one revert to 100% stock thread... that said, the crack flasher in me got too antsy and I unlocked the bootloader, fastboot flashed a recovery, and put a custom 4.2.2 ROM (ViperOne) on my One. I liked stock just fine and want to go back to it now. As far as I know I didn't s-off or change my firmware or anything important, I just did those 3 things so would I be ok just flashing that T-Mobile stock zip posted above and then fastboot flashing the stock t-mo recovery? I am not a flashing newb, I know adb and fastboot and how to flash various packages.
tl;dr unlocked and flashed a custom recovery to put on a custom 4.2.2 ROM. do I need to do anything special besides flashing a T-Mobile "stock" package and reverting recovery?

Complete HTC newb here so apologies if its been repeated or if there's already tons of threads on it, but I can't seem to find a solid all in one revert to 100% stock thread... that said, the crack flasher in me got too antsy and I unlocked the bootloader, fastboot flashed a recovery, and put a custom 4.2.2 ROM (ViperOne) on my One. I liked stock just fine and want to go back to it now. I have read that, its still a little unclear.. from what I read I need to be s-off to flash stock firmware or ROMs? if not then it should be a piece of cake, I'll just do everything but the last s-off -> s-on step since I'm already s-on

You don't need to be S-On for OTA's. Only locked bootloader with stock recovery.
