[Q] Force close on Settings / Owner Info - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Really strange issue, have the Rogers I747 version of the S3, and when you go to Settings / Security / Owner Information it just fades out, and says 'Unfortunately, Settings has stopped. [OK]"
Any clues?

Sorry, of course... I will ask there.

Same issue here. Please help. I do not want reset my phone. I have the international version

I have the same problem also.
Is there anyway to reinstall or repair the firmware?

This is a general question, it happened to my Galaxy S3 i9300.
If I don't post it here, you would prefer me to create another thread with the same title and topic?

According to the email I received from Samsung support a factort reset would fix this issue. But I don't wanna do that cause I'm pretty sure there's an app which is messing it up.

I am trying to avoid using factory reset also.
I think maybe we have to uninstall the apps one by one.

Sorry to bump this, but I only just spotted it.
I have an I9300 international version with the same problem.
I never set the "owner information" but it was automatically downloaded into the phone when I swapped out my old HTC Desire.
The correct information displays correctly on the lock screen but I cannot change it. I think that what's happened is that the saved information is bigger than the dialog box han handle and it crashes when trying to edit the saved information.

[Q] Too many pattern attemps - phone locked

Hi
I forgot my pattern and my phone is locked now, and asking for gmail account details. I put my details in (with @gmail.com and without) but it doesn't work!
What should i do?!
thanks
It doesn't work? As in, you don't have internet on your phone? Is your phone rooted? The only thing I can think of is flashing a new firmware.

I do have internet on the phone. Its a known bug which have many solutions on the web but none of them works.. and no, my phone is not rooted.
I'm trying to find a solution without rooting or wiping data..
please help.. my phone is bricked..
bump
It's bricked now or are you trying to get attention? Just wipe it. It's an easy way out.
If all else fails, you could always contact a Samsung service centre, as long as you can provide proof of purchase I'm sure they should be able to unlock it.

I guess the "brick" have a different meaning for the two of us.
I didnt want to wipe it, its my sister's phone and she had important stuff.
Anyway, she found out she was trying the wrong username the whole time.
Thanks

No, ofcourse the kernel isnt deleted. Why on earth would it do that?
A factory reset deletes app/system app data and reverts it back to default install.
Then if i put a New kernel on it will the old be deleted?

Yes.
Just go to sammobile.com and get your stock rom.
The kernel won't be deleted unless you flash another won over it,only your data (pictures, music) get deleted.
Pretty sure that got answered almost a day ago. Don't see why it needs to be said again ? (I have my own theories about why certain RC's do this, but, anyhoo).

With the way he questions i don't think he's quite ready to perform a flash operation, i suggest the OP to do some research through Google and ask questions, because quite frankly how do you think an OS runs? If factory reset deleted the kernel Samsung or any other company would be knee deep with warranty claims and law suit' from pissed clients. Please Google and try to understand what "Kernel" means and what "Factory reset" means, and then try advanced things like flashing a kernel.

only the installed apps and its data along with contacts and sms gets wiped thats it

[Q] Chinese phone, what model do I have?

Got a Galaxy 3, in Chongqing China. In the middle of the haggling proses (700USD) I discovered that the IMEI on the box and the phone wasn’t matching (every possible thing have to be inspected in china). The seller didn’t seem bothered by my questions about the IMEI, and told me something about Hong Kong, UK and smuggling, I didn’t really get it! After some more negotiation I got the phone down to about 500USD, and where told 700USD if I wanted same IMEI on the box and the phone.
Anyway now I want stock rom on my phone and are unsure what rom to install? This is the info I have.
Connected to Kies:
Device name: SGH-I747M PDA:LEM / PHONE:LEM /CSC:LEM (TLS)
Printed on phone (under battery):
GT-I9300
Setting- About device:
Baseband:T999UVLEM
Bulid number: romup dott com
Thanks,
Wrong IMEI probably a stolen / cloned / fake phone .
Details are not reading as a Samsung I9300 phone .
99.99% sure this is a fake or possibly a stolen USA network phone that has been customized .
jje
The model number doesn't look great, it should say i9300 not just "Samsung Galaxy S III" there's like 4 different models.
The i9300 can't receive 4G. I'm not sure why that phone has the 4G symbol because mine doesn't show that.
I checked that romup.com website and despite the look of the website I couldn't find anything saying the phone was a replica or anything like that
Hopefully you haven't bought a replica, I've seen some of the fakes that are being produced right now and oh wow.. they're 1:1 alright. They don't even suffer in terms of hardware, I've seen some models have a quad-core processor and a 8mp camera etc

I do not think it's fake, normally all fake Chinese phones fairly easy to detect. Have compared it with other s3 without finding differences. But guess its a gray market phone. Anyway do you think its possible to get a stock rom on it?

1) The box will have no IMEI
2) The screen size will not be the same (it will be big but slightly off)
3) The back of the phone/case
4) On some of the models the "Samsung" title is raised
5) It will be slightly thicker then the original S3
6) won't report correct model number
7) will not have samsung features, by this I mean the camera will not be samsung, the gallery etc etc.
There's many different models some are better then others so these ways to detect a fake are not universal, the best way is "about phone" and yours is showing signs of a fake.

Not sure about 6) and 7) you know. I have studied the rest, and every thing else leads me believe it is an original. Sim card slot is on the same spot, the screws are on the same spots..... And yes the phone is working great, but I really want the latest rom.
Just called a friend of my working for Telenor Mobil (my operator) he told me from what he could read on the network side my phone show up as Samsung SGH-T999, and the IMEI is not blocked.
What are the risk trying to install stock rom or anything else on this phone?

RAM Question

Just got my S3 last night. Rooted it, and ran TiBU successfully. My question is this. If this has 1gb RAM, why, when I go into Manage Apps and look at the running Apps, I see 712MB used, 882MB free? That adds to nearly 1.6gb. Am I seeing that right?
Coming from an Infuse, which never showed more than the 512MB max.

Try Android Device Manager. If that doesn't work & you didn't have 'anti-theft/loss' software already installed on the phone, you're SOOL.

Nope. The only people who can track phones by IMEI are police & intelligence agencies, and only where major crime has been committed. They're not doing it because you were careless with your phone.
