No, ofcourse the kernel isnt deleted. Why on earth would it do that?
A factory reset deletes app/system app data and reverts it back to default install.

Then if i put a New kernel on it will the old be deleted?

Yes.

Just go to sammobile.com and get your stock rom.

The kernel won't be deleted unless you flash another won over it,only your data (pictures, music) get deleted.

Pretty sure that got answered almost a day ago. Don't see why it needs to be said again ? (I have my own theories about why certain RC's do this, but, anyhoo).

With the way he questions i don't think he's quite ready to perform a flash operation, i suggest the OP to do some research through Google and ask questions, because quite frankly how do you think an OS runs? If factory reset deleted the kernel Samsung or any other company would be knee deep with warranty claims and law suit' from pissed clients. Please Google and try to understand what "Kernel" means and what "Factory reset" means, and then try advanced things like flashing a kernel.

[Q] Too many pattern attemps - phone locked

Hi
I forgot my pattern and my phone is locked now, and asking for gmail account details. I put my details in (with @gmail.com and without) but it doesn't work!
What should i do?!
thanks
It doesn't work? As in, you don't have internet on your phone? Is your phone rooted? The only thing I can think of is flashing a new firmware.

I do have internet on the phone. Its a known bug which have many solutions on the web but none of them works.. and no, my phone is not rooted.
I'm trying to find a solution without rooting or wiping data..
please help.. my phone is bricked..
bump
It's bricked now or are you trying to get attention? Just wipe it. It's an easy way out.
If all else fails, you could always contact a Samsung service centre, as long as you can provide proof of purchase I'm sure they should be able to unlock it.

[Q] Quick question? Nandroid backup

Can you, or should you do a NANDROID (CWM) backup between different devices?
I broke the screen on my month old SGSII (Yes, it can be done), I got the replacement already, but I just want to know if it's wise to restore from an image...Are there Unique Device ID's or something similair that would identify the device/cause problems?

Just kidding. Like each of the individuals that have responded have stated, as long as you're restoring on the same kind of device you won't run into any hiccups. The information that is backed up isn't device specific to that extent.

[Q] ICS upgrade Keeps restarting

Hi all,
I got so excited today to get the new ICS update. But as soon as it was done, I got this weird looping restart. I have no idea what is causing it. I tried to update and I tried the emergency update like it's mentioned in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1731654
Can anyone help me? What am I doing wrong?
To make things worse, now I can't even connect to Kies!

Reread the post above yours. He put everything there FOR YOU. If the answer is not there it will be, ask THERE. Oh and spread the word it will help everyone else out too. Probly the most useful thread in AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717.
I was on that thread first and they were getting way off track. I wanted a solution to my problem, not an analysis of a black crush test, whatever that is.
Do we REALLY want ALL ICS posts on ONE thread? Imagine having all gingerbread posts on one thread. It makes no sense.
Pretty sure I had a similar problem to yours. It kept popping up a message "com.apple.phone won't launch" or something similar and would go in a bootloop.
Might've done it totally wrong but when I updated I still had CWM (so go flash CWM?) then wipe data wipe cache factory reset and everything should work.

It won't stay that way just for time being when fitty different threads pop up to say the same thing like ICS official, AT&T official ICS release, ect once that dies down new threads about ICS will be allowed Im sure

Only thing that worked was this, full wipe and then it got better. Now it works great
The method in the second post of this thread worked great for me. I first tried installing the odin download and it would just boot to the samsung screen and stay there, so I did the emergency software recovery through Kies following the steps EXACTLY as given and had the upgrade loaded and running fine. 5 minutes later rooted and superuser installed. Sweet!:good:

I agree, too many conversations going at once
As opposed to every section being post after post after post after post of the same thing?
Just look how many threads there are of "do i need to unroot/flash to stock/sacrifice a goat at midnight to update to official ics?" already...

[APP] Undeletable Theft Protection

Ok, here is a riddle to solve for ya:
Theft protection software is crucial these days on every smartphone and chosing the right one is not really easy. I've only been using SeekDroid and have been thinking about trying Prey so far, but while I read an article about Theft Aware functioning beyond factory reset of the phone, this riddle came to my mind:
What if the phone gets stolen by someone knowing how to flash a new ROM or read about it? I've got 4EXT (always latest version) installed - is there some software that integrates into recovery and cannot be deleted without the correct code or something?
Oh, and before you answer: Keep stuff like "naa dude, that'll never happen" to yourself. Thanks.
You can try avast it writes its own partition so a factory reset or flashing a Rom won't work check it out

Thanks. Where does it write this partition?
Is it undeletable even through recovery?
Try cerberus. Amazing anti-theft. And to answer your question, nothing is safe from a standard/CWM recovery. It can wipe anything. TWRP supposedly has a recovery either just finished or in the works which is encrypted and requires a password to use, but I don't know for sure.
As for avast, I'm fairly sure it doesn't write a new partition. It just installs it to system.
I'm using avast, seems ok at the moment, not needed to use the anti theft yet.
Adding a pin code to 4ext recovery would be an awesome idea! Perhaps its possible to do?

Because they're honest. I'm pretty sure ANY anti-theft app can be un installed by flashing a ROM (more specifically by wiping data and system). Only by locking your bootloader and recovery can this be gotten around.
Here's a discussion in another thread with ideas hashed out. Should help us by giving ideas. http://rootzwiki.com/index.php?/topic/29233-Lost-/-Stolen-Phone-apps:-the-best-of-the-best

Dear Mr. Kameirus, thank you so much for posting this useful contribution. My sensors have detected a slight raise of your body temperature and a minimal change of your voice tonality, which leads me to the question if you might be emotionally overwhelmed by my complicated question above. But at least you are smart enough and have the balls to throw out a "yo homie, use the search button". Here, take your cookie.

If you are looking for the cause, then grab the log and see what you find.......seeing as you have given no details of your Rom/mods etc the psychic collective is fresh out of ideas and the quickest way to sort it is to wipe dialler data/factory reset/ bla bla
This is given as quickest solution because most people provide no details(like yourself), don't supply a log, and to be honest, even if you did, why should anyone here read it and spend hours trying to figure out a solution when you yourself can't be bothered?
And please post in the right section

Factory reset clears user faults and app faults and is also the simplest for those that lack knowledge or have failed to read the basics .
Also applies when post contains no information and poster expects to much .
