[Request] sbutton hacks[Request] FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Can we please hack the framework for the sbutton on the spen to assign Whatever app we want to its gesture and make it compatible cross stock and cm9? It would really solve a lot of issues because then everyone can switch over to cm9 and its varua ts and use quick notes, papyrus, and memo beta. Would really really be appreciated and legendary. Even all it included was a service running in the background watching for the event.

This would be awesome, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Everyone uses the excuse that its built into TW framework.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

Start a bounty. I know I'd throw in some $$
Sent from my Galaxy Note using Tapatalk 2

It is heavily built into TW
I doubt anyone would do this honestly..unless u work up a good bounty .and find a Dev who would even try it
IMO I doubt it will happen
But it would be pretty cool if someone did this
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda premium

That doesn't make since.... its hardware. Input/output. Create a new framework that uses the spen.. don't port it just plain start fresh. And there's money. There's four hundred dollars for any dev who can make it happen. I want spen on aosp.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium

.... um... So, the spen works just fine in non-TW ROMs. The only thing you DON'T get is the "SPen SDK" stuff, which is basically the nice consistent toolset for apps specifically made for SPen.
Otherwise, every app you list works almost exactly the way they did on a TW ROM. Papyrus for example, I have it set to ignore touch input, SPen button is erase, so I draw, click to erase errant strokes, etc.
And did you really have to word this like a 419 Spam Email?

Even before the bounty if this was just about code i woudl have done it by now
after some talk with a few other devs , simply said the problem is the dirver for the spen , the codes in the framework call on the binary level , need to find what binarie file and what needs to be done to it in order to have it work on aosp , for example if it woudlnt be a critical lib file we woudl just need to throw it in with smemo and voila woudl work ... just lkike TW launcher from sgs3 .. but it appears it is a critical lib with samsung' s 'proprietary' 's'pen so yea find an open source driver of it for cm to use and problem solved .. the code is not the issue ... hope this explains it ... spen support on aosp , is not for anyime soon unless samsung allows it / or some binarie dev creates the file we need

Papyrus Beta - Now Works with ICS!!!

I recently came upon a great note taking app called Papyrus Beta. The app developer has now added support for the s-pen on the G-Note. One killer feature is the ability for the app to distinguish between s-pen input and finger input, so you can use the s-pen to write and finger to erase. If you watch the demo video in the Play Store the developer talks about additional functionality that they are hoping to bring to the app in future updates, including other uses for the s-pen button and wireless note syncing.
If you are an obsessive compulsive note taker like me, you should definitely check this app out!
Play Store link: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.steadfastinnovation.android.projectpapyrus
Edit: I see that this app has already been mentioned in the N7000 forums. Here's the link to that thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1580716
[UPDATE] The new update to this app brings support for Galaxy Note ICS!! I've only tested it on the Team Perfection's ICS Objection RC3 ROM and it works perfectly; I can't guarantee that it will work for all custom ROMS. Everyone should check out this app.
Looks nice... I can't see it in the market, and on the Web it says not comparable, lol

I'm on stock GB and I was able to install from the web and it shows up in the market. Maybe it's not compatible with the Note on ICS?
I sent an email to the developers to see if it is compatible with ICS.
I'm on gingerbread too running stock saurom and it's still incompatible. Why?! So many apps have been doing this too me.

I just saw in the "What's New" section in the Play Store listing it says "Samsung Galaxy Note Support (Gingerbread)", so it must not be ICS compatible yet. That sucks.

Loaded for me on Seraphim ICS (240 DPI). Active Pen isn't an option on this device, however.

I'm at 240, while stock is 320. If it's not the DPI, it might've been something with the ROM itself, since I'm on Seraphim ICS. Without it recognizing the s-Pen, its useless anyway. It recognizes the s-Pen for selecting things right until you create a new note, then it completely ignores it. There's an option in settings to enable the Active Pen, but it doesn't recognize it as a compatible device for that.
I'm also on Seraphim and I was able to download it. I can't write anything with my finger or s-pen.
Also here is a download link if you still have problems
http://goo.gl/BB6oB
Edit: After a reboot my finger worked but still no pen. They're still in beta, only a matter of time i suppose.
I have an email in to the developer also about stock compatibility. I'll post when I get a response.

Weird, finger works for me for drawing notes. Pen is ignored.
The silly thing is I can use the pen to select all the buttons and options, I just can't use it on the drawing portion of the app. Finger is recognized fine though.

[MOD]HTCLinkifyDispatcher Fix

Running a Sense 3.6 or 4.0 ROM and tired of not having a choice what app to use?
Sick of Apple and their patent infringement lawsuits?
This script will revert the workaround HTC put in place to comply with the ITC's order to remove the patent infringement.
This script makes a backup of your current build.prop, and then EDITS IT IN PLACE.
What does this mean? It means you can flash THIS file on ANY ICS 3.6 or 4.0 ROM on this phone and it will not mess up any tweaks your specific ROM dev has put in place.
Why is this important? There are a number of build.props edited with this fix (and others)...some of them are from the stock ROM and some are from various other custom ROMs. Simply copying one over your current build.prop could lose you important optimizations, or custom fixes your dev has set up. By flashing this script you keep those customizations and still get the benefit of having your choices back.
Instructions:
To tell if this edit worked for you, check in settings. If the app associations menu option is gone, then it worked.
You will need to clear defaults for specific programs in order to have a choice pop up.
Example:
If you have selected Chrome for your default browser in app associations, you will need to go to menu/settings/apps/downloaded/Chrome/clear defaults.
The next time you tap a URL you will have a choice of which browser to use.
Credits:
Thanks to iconeo for the original thread found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1693809
Thanks to Steal25 for the actual build.prop edits.
I am including two zip files. The first one will make the build.prop change to allow you to choose your own defaults.
The second one (HTCLinkify-revert.zip) will allow you to put your build.prop back to its default.
There are other build.prop edits out there and I will be creating ROM agnostic flashable zips for those as well.
Please let me know if there are any issues with this flash.
Good idea on packaging it this way it'll make it easy for those that havent made edits to a build.prop yet.
very good!

Right, that was my thought as well. Plus this way if a dev updates the ROM but doesn't add this fix in as a default, it's the easiest way to get it back.

Thanks. That was my whole point: I could see times where people would just copy over random build.prop that already had the tweak, over a ROM with a heavily edited build.prop and mess up everything their ROM Dev was trying to do...and then I thought of the poor devs trying to cope with figuring out random glitches due to build.prop changes and I thought...hey, let's make this easy for EVERYONE.
Now the users don't have to edit it themselves and the devs don't get stuck trying to figure random bugs out without knowing a user may have changed build.prop, or overwritten it.
Win for everyone.

Nope. This mod allows you to choose what app you want to launch when clicking on say a URL. This is the functionality that Apple claimed infringed one of their patents.
It doesn't have anything to do with 3rd party apps, aside from allowing you to decide which one you want to launch, either each time, or by default.

I'm still kind of confused, so was the patent on the "Complete action using" dialog box? I thought that was present in all Androids for years now, and I thought iOS didn't even give you an option.

Yep, that's what it was about. And whether android has been using it forever or not isn't the point. Apple dusted off their patent book and found that it was infringing.

Exactly, I've had this for a day or so, and voice search isn't working. But they're aware of that issue, and attempting to fix it. OP should mention that voice doesn't work.
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda app-developers app
Voice-to-text will not work without kernel support or a hack forcing the app to use the existing Google Speech-to-text implementation. Either direction will take an obscene amount of time, i'd imagine. Don't wait up...
Why is this sinking down the app list?! People need to see this!
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk 2
After using for several days, one issue I've noticed (besides voice search not working), is that the "cards" do not automagically "appear" on my phone. Rather, to view any card, I have to manually open the app. Once there I see a relevant card, such as the weather, or the length of my commute to work when the phone figures it's time for me to go to work. But my understanding is that Google Now, working properly, is supposed to make these cards "pop up" on your phone, rather than you having to manually open the app.

Yes. Search for mikeyxda07. I believe that's the file. One of the xda devs (mike) has one up and running. Also, I think Shostock has it in his ROM. Why not just switch to JB and install it with one of the various Aroma gapps installers? Works well.

Idea for MultiWindow

Hi guys,
This just ocurred to me. I was reading that the korean jb has multiwindow and that its hardware is very similar to our notes. Both use a snapdragon S3 and the adreno 220. Can it be posible to port? I was just trying to port multiwindow into my own and I was able to make flashbar appear, get the toggle in settings. When you open the first app it opens like normal, now the second you see that it has the little box to divide the screen, but it opens the second app in full. But you'll see a bar in the middle that is the divider for multiwindow. I don't know something im missing or something. Will post pics later So you can see what im talking about.
I'm drooling with anticipation. ..I hope you figure it out!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda app-developers app
This is as far as I have. I have modified the following
SecSettings.apk to add the multiwindow option
android.policy.jar
services.jar (I saw multiwindow smali inside so I did not modify any of it)
Added:
FlashBarService.apk (Taken from the N7000)
multiwindow.jar
com.sec.android.app.multiwindow.xml
com.sec.feature.flashbar.xml
com.sec.feature.multiwindow.phone.xml
com.sec.feature.multiwindow.xml
I dont know if I'm missing other things to get it fully working. Im just learning.

I believe lildoggs may be somewhere in the general direction. I've been reading threads from the n7000 and note 2 threads about modding apps to be capable with multiwindow, if they aren't already supported. So if you can install the browser and maybe messenger app from the korean note, and they work that would be great. If not maybe try this tutorial from this thread to modify a few apps yourself and see if it works.
also check out this multi window manager app from the playstore if indeed you did get it working to maybe mod an app. I'm not dev, but just throwing out some things I think may be of some use to you.
I'm currently at work but will try them when I get home. Like I mentioned before from my research I see that we already have the smali files for multiwindow inside services.jar. Maybe we need the apps to be compatible.
Good luck man.

S Note is a TW only app, it requires TW framework to make it work which is not present on AOSP ROMs. The only way it would ever work is if a dev was able to distinguish which portions of the TW framework was required to make it run and port it to a ROM or turn it into a flashable mod/patch.
Most of the people on AOSP who want apps like the TW apps go with a few that are listed in several of the AOSP ROM threads. If you want something similar to S Note you could try Papyrus. If you wanted certain apps to open when you take out the S Pen you would need GMD Spen Control which is $5 from the Play Store. If you do give AOSP a shot and miss some of the TW S Pen features you should try GMD Spen Control out, its a superb app and was created with the S Pen SDK from Samsung.
