I am wanting to give stock android a go, but I want to keep S Note. Is it possible to download from a third party onto my device?

S Note is a TW only app, it requires TW framework to make it work which is not present on AOSP ROMs. The only way it would ever work is if a dev was able to distinguish which portions of the TW framework was required to make it run and port it to a ROM or turn it into a flashable mod/patch.
Most of the people on AOSP who want apps like the TW apps go with a few that are listed in several of the AOSP ROM threads. If you want something similar to S Note you could try Papyrus. If you wanted certain apps to open when you take out the S Pen you would need GMD Spen Control which is $5 from the Play Store. If you do give AOSP a shot and miss some of the TW S Pen features you should try GMD Spen Control out, its a superb app and was created with the S Pen SDK from Samsung.

Can we please hack the framework for the sbutton on the spen to assign Whatever app we want to its gesture and make it compatible cross stock and cm9? It would really solve a lot of issues because then everyone can switch over to cm9 and its varua ts and use quick notes, papyrus, and memo beta. Would really really be appreciated and legendary. Even all it included was a service running in the background watching for the event.

This would be awesome, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Everyone uses the excuse that its built into TW framework.

Start a bounty. I know I'd throw in some $$

It is heavily built into TW
I doubt anyone would do this honestly..unless u work up a good bounty .and find a Dev who would even try it
IMO I doubt it will happen
But it would be pretty cool if someone did this

That doesn't make since.... its hardware. Input/output. Create a new framework that uses the spen.. don't port it just plain start fresh. And there's money. There's four hundred dollars for any dev who can make it happen. I want spen on aosp.

.... um... So, the spen works just fine in non-TW ROMs. The only thing you DON'T get is the "SPen SDK" stuff, which is basically the nice consistent toolset for apps specifically made for SPen.
Otherwise, every app you list works almost exactly the way they did on a TW ROM. Papyrus for example, I have it set to ignore touch input, SPen button is erase, so I draw, click to erase errant strokes, etc.
And did you really have to word this like a 419 Spam Email?

Even before the bounty if this was just about code i woudl have done it by now
after some talk with a few other devs , simply said the problem is the dirver for the spen , the codes in the framework call on the binary level , need to find what binarie file and what needs to be done to it in order to have it work on aosp , for example if it woudlnt be a critical lib file we woudl just need to throw it in with smemo and voila woudl work ... just lkike TW launcher from sgs3 .. but it appears it is a critical lib with samsung' s 'proprietary' 's'pen so yea find an open source driver of it for cm to use and problem solved .. the code is not the issue ... hope this explains it ... spen support on aosp , is not for anyime soon unless samsung allows it / or some binarie dev creates the file we need

On nook color I added android on top of stock Rom because I wanted the kids reading book functionality. Is there something similar for the tablet?
Yes. You can root and add any launcher that works with Gingerbread. I know the update.zip I posted in the development section includes homecatcher, which will ask you what you want to launch, stock launcher or another, when you press the n key twice. It's the same update zip that is posted elsewhere too, I just couldn't find it when I was looking last night.

Technically you can make it work on any from. You just need to get the apps from the apps and themes section. Also if its just the nook reading app you want, you can still download it from the market, and you can also get books from Google too, I've testing it on 4.x Roms and up, and it works really well.

I think he's talking about the feature that reads along which I think is stock only and doesn't work in the Play Store app.

Go into the themes and apps section, and its all the apps ripped directly from the original nook tablet OS.
Hi we recently bought a Samsung smart TV. I am fan of pacman ROM and now moved to omega 44.3 to ensure easy n better connnectiviry to my new smart led TV.
But now I think n want to know if we can enjoy features of smart TV while running aokp/cm/pa?
I dont find uploading to allshare is a facinating idea. I don't want my stuff allover the place besides eating up precious data.
Could you please suggest?

Try this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bianor.ams
it's called iMediaShare
With "Smart Remote" you can replace "AllShare Control".

I was thinking about checking out an AOSP ROM and was wondering if it's possible to run some of the Samsung apps on it. I'm mostly interested in keeping WatchON, S Voice, MultiWindow, All Share, Touchwiz Camera.
Also if it is possible then what is usually the best way? Flash a zip, install an apk, or use titanium?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

WatchON works on AOKP. Might work on CM if they put in IR blaster support. TW camera is a no go. The others I have not tried

I've been trying to push some AOSP style apps to system/app but I keep getting force closes on them.
Examples include calculator.apk and mms.ask. Any idea why these apps won't work?

The S4 is a TouchWiz phone, not AOSP. The AOSP framework isn't there, so many AOSP apps won't work. That's probably true for most of them, actually.
What you're doing is kind of close to taking an iPad application and trying to flash it, then asking why it doesn't work.

Also, Samsung apps are in system/priv-app, not system/app. Some may work, some may not. Generally fixing permissions and ensuring file name matches should help.
I tried that too. Oh well. Guess I'll just settle with freezing stock apps and installing AOSP versions the regular way. Thanks for the help.

good luck...but like it was said, tw doesn't have ASOP framework as part of it
I've found a few apks that have been repackaged that I can simply install. Just trying to create the illusion of AOSP.
