I was thinking about checking out an AOSP ROM and was wondering if it's possible to run some of the Samsung apps on it. I'm mostly interested in keeping WatchON, S Voice, MultiWindow, All Share, Touchwiz Camera.
Also if it is possible then what is usually the best way? Flash a zip, install an apk, or use titanium?
Thanks in advance for any advice.

WatchON works on AOKP. Might work on CM if they put in IR blaster support. TW camera is a no go. The others I have not tried

Hey guys, Im a big android fan, I have a rooted galaxy s3, and I love the ROM CM10 as it gives me a stock android experience, however, i came back to the official firmware because there are some things that I just didnt like on CM10, the 3 principal are:
1) The contacts app
2) The messasing app
3) No SmartStay
SO I went back to the official firmware, but I backed up the CM10 gallery and camera (which are the JB ones) using Titanium Backup, and I was able to install them in the samsung firmware.
BUT MY PERFORMANCE WAS SO MUCH BETTER ON CM10, so my question is:
CAN I BACK UP THE SAMSUNG FIRMWARE APPS LIKE CONTACTS, MESSASING, SMARTSTAY, ETC, USING TITANIUM BACKUP, AND INSTALL THEM ON CM10? so I can have the native android experience, but with the apps from samsung that I like?, Im asking because I dont want to do all the installing of cm10 and wiping again, if im not going to be able to get these apps on it, I'd really appreciate your help guys. thanks in advance
no mate. those apps are Sammy framework based

Damn it, the only thing I don't like about cm10 is the messaging and the contacts, and if I could just replace them I would be happy :s

Hey all. I was just wondering if its possible to still be able to download and use Samsung apps such as Samsung Link, watch on, etc. I love love the Slim Bean ROM but I also really enjoyed the WatchOn app. I have the APKs, but it just says "app not installed" every time I try to install it. When I try to download something Samsung related from the Play store, it says that my device isn't compatible with that version. Can anyone help me out with this or at least tell me of another way that I can utilize the IR on my phone. Thank you.

That doesn't utilize the IR. My TV isn't a smart TV. Do you know of anything that uses the IR on the s4?

It uses the IR blaster. It costs $10 though.

Won't work on an AOSP based rom

IR currently does not work on AOSP ROMs, and more than likely wont any time soon. The code for IR is proprietary and wont be released. It will take someone to reverse engineer code to get this up and running.
@ OP nice choice of ROM

Thank you I love the slim bean ROM. So just to clarify, even if I get the smart remote app, I won't be able to use it?

I am wanting to give stock android a go, but I want to keep S Note. Is it possible to download from a third party onto my device?

S Note is a TW only app, it requires TW framework to make it work which is not present on AOSP ROMs. The only way it would ever work is if a dev was able to distinguish which portions of the TW framework was required to make it run and port it to a ROM or turn it into a flashable mod/patch.
Most of the people on AOSP who want apps like the TW apps go with a few that are listed in several of the AOSP ROM threads. If you want something similar to S Note you could try Papyrus. If you wanted certain apps to open when you take out the S Pen you would need GMD Spen Control which is $5 from the Play Store. If you do give AOSP a shot and miss some of the TW S Pen features you should try GMD Spen Control out, its a superb app and was created with the S Pen SDK from Samsung.

I've been trying to push some AOSP style apps to system/app but I keep getting force closes on them.
Examples include calculator.apk and mms.ask. Any idea why these apps won't work?

The S4 is a TouchWiz phone, not AOSP. The AOSP framework isn't there, so many AOSP apps won't work. That's probably true for most of them, actually.
What you're doing is kind of close to taking an iPad application and trying to flash it, then asking why it doesn't work.

Also, Samsung apps are in system/priv-app, not system/app. Some may work, some may not. Generally fixing permissions and ensuring file name matches should help.
I tried that too. Oh well. Guess I'll just settle with freezing stock apps and installing AOSP versions the regular way. Thanks for the help.

good luck...but like it was said, tw doesn't have ASOP framework as part of it
I've found a few apks that have been repackaged that I can simply install. Just trying to create the illusion of AOSP.
