My media sounds(music, S Voice talkback, etc) does not work unless headphones are plugged in. It worked before I plugged in the head phones now it does not function at all. Any suggestions?
Maybe a feature with ICS but it was working fine before. media volume is all the way up. Nothing is on mute. Everything else works fine except media..
You need to give more information ie. If you are rooted?

Not rooted, on verizon, stock rom, phone is brand new just got yesterday. Issue did not happen until I plugged in headphones(ones that it came with) for the first time.
I did a factory reset and it resolved the issue but still scratching my brain to what happen.
Tried plugging in head phones after reset unplugged them and media still works.. weird issue.

Hey people
Woke up this morning and im not getting any audio at all from my external speaker. Not even bootup sound. Headphones and call speaker work fine
I'm running H3
GG
Make sure that it isn't in Silent mode, if it isn't then sad to say that your external speaker is gone. Service Center will be the only option.

Sometimes I need to "twist" the plug to find right position for it.
External speaker i mean the rear speaker on the phone that normally makes all the non call noises. Anyone experience this?

I'm currently having this problem as well. I'm on the latest checkROM, and I have tried 3 different kernels, thinking that was the issue, but it's still happening.
My sounds are playing through the phone speaker, and not the loudspeaker.
If I reboot the phone, the problem goes away for a while, but it eventually returns.
This has caused me to miss critical notifications and alarms, and I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure out what the heck is causing it.
Do I have to reflash the phone?
Any advice on this would be appreciated.
Sorry for the double post, but has anyone else experienced this?
Can anyone suggest a fix?
Go back to stock to rule a hardware issue in or out, I.E. if you still have the same problem on stock it's obviously a hardware problem and if you only seem to have the problem with your current rom/kernel the problem lies there.
If it does have the same problem on stock, factory reset & jig it to wipe the flash counter & hand it in for warranty service/replacement.
Hi.
I am using the headset that came with the phone and there seems to be a problem. When plugged in and charging the button works fine whether the screen is on or off.
However, when running on battery the button works fine until the screen goes off.
Anyone else had this problem or know how to fix it? Sounds like a software bug.
I have a Tmobile UK phone with bokk1 firmware
same here
any solution
Have flashed to some new ROM? Might be ROM specific issue.
I've only had the phone a week so not had chance to pay with it yet.
Going to try to find the latest Europe gingerbread and flash that.
Hopefully will solve my problems and get rid of the terrible t-mobile animations etc too.
I've flashed to KL1 and rooted too. The button is still not working as it should. I'm going to try to borrow some other headphones and try them out tomorrow.
Will also try mine on the other phone.
Hopefully it's just dodgy headphones and not the phone.
tried different headphones in my phone, not working.
tried my headphones in another phone, working fine.
looks like this is something wrong in my phone, or it's a problem with both the original tmobile rom and the KL1 rom.
i'm betting that samsung's famous quality control has hit me again.
first 18 months with a galaxy s with unuseable GPS,
now a phone with dodgy video camera and headphone button that doesn't work at the time you need it to.
sigh.
i think samsung hate me
a work around for the moment is to install Jays Headset Control from the market, it's free. there is an option somewhere in there that 'beeps' whenever you press the button. so now when the phone is in my pocket i can press and hold until i hear the beep, which means i can then press again to continue playing.
Hi all,
I am having the weirdest problem here and need some advice. Tried the search function but came up empty, although it seems by googling that other people have faced it. Problem is that none of the following helped.
Out of the blue my phone thinks that the handsfree jack is used at all times.
So, when i actually use the handsfree all is ok.
When i unplug it i still get the headphones icon on the notification bar and every sound except ringtones is routed to the headphones jack so i have no sound at all.
Tried:
Flashed stock rom, other developers roms, and every piece of kernel i could get my hands on. Of course in the process i did the proper wipes from the cwm menu.
Factory reset.
Sound test through the *#*#0673# menu.
Plugged - unplugged the headphones like 100 times.
Cleaned the headphones hole with cotton bud.
Applied force to the walls of the headphones hole with the jack plugged in.
Took it to a tech friend of mine who took the whole thing apart and tested almost every piece of hardware to his personal handset..everything works as it should.
For now the plan is to keep pluging unplugging the handsfree till it works. I will do that because one time it actually played music from the speaker for a couple of seconds... Unfortunately it then started using the headphones again.
I could really use some help here from the gurus PLEASE.
Thanks in advance
Alex

I would have to guess it's a hardware problem... although you have tested everything, still, I'd have to vote for sending it in for service

Well, thats my next conclution. It has to be the main board which is the only one we couldnt test...i just dont want to go there yet as it means that i have to sell it for spare parts.
As for sammys service i cant really go anywhere near them after what i have put my phone through
Oh dear. Had the phone a few days now and this suddenly started tonight. No matter what I do, it thinks headphones are plugged in. I've rebooted, and factory reset twice.
I'm just downloading the stock ROM (700mb?!?!), and if that doesn't fix it I'll be taking it back for a replacement tomorrow.
Lame.
What happens if you actually plug headphones in and then remove them.
Yeah I tried that, but no joy.
Interestingly the headphones icon just disappeared and the sound returned when I received a message through Handcent. No idea why that fixed it but there you go.
I'll be trying for a replacement tomorrow anyway. Don't really trust it now and I've been having some weird signal issues as well.
Oh ok, well glad you sorted it anyways
Okay so earlier today I was eating lunch and I managed to spill water on my phone. I immediately went and dried it out and then turned it back on. Everything appeared to be working except the sound. I had the Xperia Z1, so I knew you had to wait a little before the sound would return back to normal out the speaker port, so I waited but it still wasn't working. Upon further investigation, I discovered that it would play my ringtone(a song from my SD Card), notification tone and the noise it makes when you adjust the volume using the buttons but it would not play my music through the music player app at all. It also wouldn't play sound out of the earpiece so I could only hear the only person if my phone was on speaker. The speaker is back to it's normal sound now but it still won't play music, things through youtube or pandora and my earpiece still isn't working. Is this a software issue or is it a hardware thing? It's very strange. I'm using XtreStoLite right now and I'm downloading a stock rooted rom and I'm gonna flash it to see if that changes anything, but has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? What would my options be as far as fixing the problem? Thanks in advanced for all your answers, and also, the water damaged sticker is still pearly white so I don't think it's water damaged. I already tried reseting, taking my battery out and factory reseting as well.

Wowza, what a wall of text. Paragraphs please, as that is too hard to read all the way through.
One possibility is moisture or dried crud in the headphone or USB jacks leading the phone to think that a headset is connected. Hardware damage seems a lot less likely.
Or it could be an unrelated and coincidental software issue. Do you have a known good backup that you could try restoring?
