Hi ..
I have just finished up setting my first Android SGSIII phone.. Now I want some info from my Google account and so not, like I want my calender events from my online Gmail account but not contacts, Picasa pictures.. How can I select what I want and what I not from my google account if I configure one on my Android..
Thanks.
go to settings > accounts and sync > select ur gmail ID > now check what you want to sync
Go into settings
Accounts and sync
Click on the google account
Select what info you want to be synced on your phone.
Great.. that worked but how to remove or delete what I already got in my phone like contacts from Gmail and Picasa album pics.. and is there a way to keep certain albums in my phone from Picasa and some not.. coz not all are useful for me..
Thanks once again.. +1 added.
You cannot specify albums you want to keep on the device like that using your Android Device. All your picasa albums will be available to you. However, if there is a way, then it would be through the website using each albums' permissions.
Great.. Doesn't matter.. I can live with that.. Thanks for your replies..
No worries! Enjoy your SGSIII

I am having trouble syncing my contacts that I inputed on my Atrix to Gmail. Even if the contact is Linked to both Phone and Google, none of the contacts show up on Gmail from my computer, but if I add a contact from my computer, it shows up on my phone. How can I sync from my phone to Gmail? btw, this is my first Android device.
Thanks.
I have exactly the same issue and it's driving me nuts! Creating a new contact on the phone adds it to the "Contacts" group but there doesn't seem to be a way to get that to sync with google/gmail. Have you found a way around this?
Ok, my phone auto syncs it with contacts and gmail, but I think I know why yours isn't.
Open the contact and verify that it has a linked profile to your google account. If it does not, then link it.
If it does, go to settings > accounts > gmail account
Hit the menu button and sync. Log into your gmail account on the desktop version, not mobile version, hit contacts, click all contacts and verify.

If I create a brand new contact I can't link it to gmail because the contact does not exist in gmail. Your method only works if I have the contact in gmail/google also.
Anyone solve this yet? I'm dealing with 150 contacts or so that were imported from a sim card and trying to figure out how to get them into gmail.
I think I might be able to do export all contacts to a file, then email it to myself, then import all contacts to gmail but I'm trying to avoid CSV errors.
thunderbolt
I am having the same issue in my thunderbolt. I just rooted it and when I went to look for a contact that I added when I got the phone I realized it never was sent to my gmail account and now it is not synced.
Thunderbolt
Through some searching I found that the thunderbolt defaults to a "phone" contact when you enter one on the phone. You have to select it as a Google contact before you even put it in the phone. You can't change this after putting in the contact. I'm glad I found this out early enough so that I only lost one contact.
I had this issue and found how to solve it:
Open ContactsApp->Menu->More->Settings
Here each phone is a bit different but you will be able to choose how to set your new contacts, whether it will be on your phone contacts, a specific gmail account or all.
In My Motorola Atrix, it automatically saves to contacts (and cannot be removed) and if you have more than 1 gmail account it all gets mixed up there and you should add/select the right one.
Hope it helps.

This is the correct method and set by default on the Atrix.

Just to be clear, we are talking about viewing contacts on your Atrix and not viewing contacts on GMail on your PC. The point being that Motoblur does not push contacts from the various Social Networking accounts to your Google hosted Gmail contacts. I think you already know that but wanted to be sure. Did you try to delete your FB account on the Atrix and re-add. Also, and this should not make any difference, but I do not have the FB app installed. I find it a bit useless.
hey...
i saw my frnds galaxy 3 with some custom rom...he had facebook pics in the dialler and also status updates when he called anyone....
i have a problem in Facebook synchronization...
i get all my facebook friends dp in my contacts but not wen i call them....
is der a way to atleast get facebook pics wen u call someone?
To achieve this, you mustn't link the contacts in your list with the contacts from the FB-app, but with the Facebook-account you can set up in the account-menu (in options, it's preinstalled!). Hope you unterstand what i mean ^^.
Basically what he means to say is that you need to go to Menu---> settings--> Accounts and sync & select their select facebook account. It would ask you to sync contacts, just check that box and you would have what you want.
hope that it helps
well i aready hav an account there....ive got two accounts , the one i created and the facebook-app account....so shall i delete the application account?
i didnt get u??
wat u mean by 2 accounts thats ur created
i mean i already have the facebook-application account and another account which i created in Accounts and sync settings.....so ive got two accounts der....
also i cant seem to sync the calender with fb....
i guess ill delete the application account and see wad happens....
Did you merge the Facebook accounts with your contacts? Should then show the blue Facebook-"f" in their description.
i guess the two diff a/c would be conflicting within each other... try removing it and let me know if u stil hav the prob
yes its done now ...thanx...
but birthdays dont sync with calender only the events do....
and when i call someone the facebook status update dosent show on the dialler...
For the birthday thing: i exported the birthadys from facebook (there's a link, not sure where) and imported them into my google calender.
export your contact from facebook using a desktop system and then update them to your google calender.
the next time google sync from your phone, it would be there

How to delete the email registered during setup because I want to change to another account. Will the original email contacts be erased if I change to another email address?
Many thanks.
I don't know if you can delete it via the menu, but anyway, a wipe is required. If you have it rooted, use Titanium Backup just in case.
And if your contacts are synced with your Google Account, you will lose those, so be sure to put them on your SIM/other service.
And yes, email contact swill be also deleted.
I think you can delete a file with root explorer
@kadji: How you would do this ...?
@Kermit33
What kind of email app do you mean? Original GMail or Email or K9 mail?
The contacts on a android phone are synchronized with your Gmail (google) account.
Your phone is bound to one google account. If you want to change this account, it will have a massive impact on your phone (mail, calendar, contacts, market).
If you mean only a mail account on email app, you can delete a account in the settings of this app or add one. This will have no impact on your contacts.
Man if he want to remove Google account he have to delete a specify file with root explorer, i dont remember the name but i can google later

accounts.db should do it. The telephone will create a new accounts.db. or he can rename framework-res.apk to framework-res.apk.bak and then rename it back again to framework-res.apk. That should also do the trick.
At least these to worked on my Xperia Arc. Havn't tried them on my Arc S nor Tablet S
I have a guide for it here on my computer.
Is it not much easier to delete the account via
'settings -> Accounts & Sync ->'
than open the account and choose 'Delete Account' in the upper right corner?

It's the email built-in of the tablet, I think I can delete it in the Setting - Account and Sync.
Thanks to all for your advices.
Yeah, settings -> Accounts & Sync -> Select account and click Remove Account should clear out the account and all the sync settings. Then you can choose Add Account and add your new one.
The reason I want to delete the original email, a gmail, is that the pictures in my Picasa are all uploaded to the tablet automatically! Is there a way to bypass this or there is some setting I need to do with the tablet/gmail account?
P.s. I can't delete those picasa album in the tablet.
@kermit33
I know this problem ... I have had the same in the past ...
I was confused wherefrom my smartphone 'knows' same very old pictures ...
The reason was ... from Picasa sync ...
(I have a German tablet, so I hope my translation of the needed steps are correct)
Go to ....
Settings -> Accounts & sync
choose your google account withe a "touch"
than you will find a list with checkbox and all google services
one of them should be 'Picasa Web-album'
Disable the checkbox .. and is done.
Thanks obicom.
I have tried that already but the Pisaca pictures are still in the tablet and can't be deleted. I think the pictures are synced to my device when I first set up my email account.
Hmm ... you should be able to delete the pictures
Do you have root access an a tool like Root Explorer?
The pictures are physical files on your sd card and must be deletable.
Maybe not from the gallery but with file explorer?
Could you try again and post the error message?
Keep me informed please.

In Settings -> Accounts and Sync -> Gmail Account, you can just uncheck the Picasa Web Albums options and they should stop syncing automatically.

Please see post #12.
I just migrated from N900 to S3... I was using Hermes on N900 for contact sync and it added the facebook url to the contact details. Now i would like to install some application which just on the basis of that url, update *only* the contact picture. Is there some application available which can do this without hassle?
HaxSync
not working on the url basis... is the dev on xda ?? i would like to ask him about it?
You can also create a "facebook for sync" in account parameters... Works great for me..

I dont know how to create "facebook for sync" .. basically all i need is some app which go through the website section of a contact.. and update the profile pic on its basis... HaxSync seems not to be able to do that...
Don't know if the following works for your specific need but its worth a try:
Settings - accounts and sync -add account - add facebook account (or add facebook for syncing)
Then go to contacts - menu button - contacts to display - customised list - press facebook and choose what u want displayed.
I get contact pics synced from skype, gmail etc, can't really try facebook cause its blocked here...

Hi All,
I'm trying to sync Facebook with my contacts (people), so I go to Accounts and Sync and add Facebook in. It directs me to the app and I choose 'Sync with existing contacts'. I only want it to link with the contacts on my phone, but after I press the sync button, it syncs ALL my Facebook contacts into my phone (All my friends on Facebook). WHY??? Anyone know how to sync and link with ONLY the contacts on your phone?
Thank, much appreciated!
wrong thread, sorry. can deleted

go to your contacts and hit the menu theres a setting in there to only display your contacts, its probably because htc has there own facebook sync so thats probably what your seeing.

I came across that answer somewhere too, but I can't find where you can hide the contacts you don't want in the menu. Can you direct me specifically?
Thanks!
This pic I just posted says it all!

Ahhh I see what you mean. But like when you go to the phone tab on the very left, all your facebook friend's contacts are there. I don't think you can get rid of this
