make sure you flame the hell out him...the guy who put the page together he is such a loser...but ok

That guy is a loser! I tried to simply brick my device and because of all of his stupid information, I now have a fully functional way better than stock phone. UGH if you want to have an awesome phone, follow his instructions. But really, who wants that these days?

I remember there being at least one in the roll up sticky thread.
I thought you didn't need to unlock or even root since the leak is signed by HTC?
1. Title is misleading. You are trying to guide someone through installing a custom ROM on the resound, title makes it sound like you are installing a stock ICS leak ROM.
2. You should never flash a kernel before the ROM. Chances are you will give yourself bootloops that since you haven't even installed a custom recovery or dev unlocked yet, you would have to do a factory reset in the stock bootloader to get out of.
3. You need to specify the difference between being on stock GB or one of the ICS leaks. I see you partially mention it, but it needs to be in more detail that you have to know which hboot you are running, since the ICS hboot changed the mount points of the storage.
4. I recommend that this either be cleaned up or deleted. A xtreme noob would probably only be more confused by this guide.

Excuse me. I failed pretty hard at some points in this xD It was fairly early in the morning. But I did this and it seemed to work fine for me. I installed the kernel via Bootloader and deleted the file off my SD card (put SD card into computer and deleted) then flashed Amon-Ra , did the root, cleared the cache and loaded the Rom. I wish it could just be that easy to explain :/

downgrading to 2.3 to be able to root and go to ICS?

Hello,
Have done some searches and I just wanted to see if this is right as my Note was rooted with Gingerbread 2.3 and I stupidly upgraded with Kies to the official AT&T ICS software and lost my root. I have just a few questions.
Would the only way to get a rooted stock ICS rom on the phone (such as those available in the forum) be to downgrade to Gingerbread and root (which I have done before) then install one of the custom "stock" roms to have ICS but have root access? Or am I completely out of luck on rooting a stock ICS Note?
If so, could someone direct me to the thread with downgrading to gingerbread, as a search has not helped me to find instructions for doing so, and with all of the information on this site, I believe it has to be there and that I a just missing it?
Feel free to delete my post if I am completely lost and have posted erroneously in the wrong forum or anything to that effect.

Root with odin like you would on gb but on ICS. Just try the cm9 roms though, it will change your life
You do not need to downgrade to GB to root. What you need to do is boot the phone into download mode, and use Odin to flash a custom recovery (such as CWM). Once you have the custom recovery flashed, you can boot into recovery mode and flash the Superuser or Supersu zip file to give you root. Using this method is the most foolproof way.

and, you would get better answers if you would post a question in the Q&A thread, not in general...
Look in the custom rom section of this loser's thread...he is such a loser...make sure you flame the hell out of him, but here is his link....
go the custom rom section...you will the awesome ics offical already root...and debloated, and one thread has the pure virgin stock ics ....blah blah blah....

New to Android

Hello all!
My first post here and expectedly, it's regarding the fundamentals of the Android platform..
I have just gotten a Huawei phone, a Huawei Honor to be specific. It's running on Android 4.1 which is Jellybean right?
Hmmm should I do an upgrade to ICS?
And what's this thing about rooting? Is it an requirement to root my phone?
Thanks for the help, much appreciated

Android 4.0.x was ICS. The newer version is 4.1.X called jelly beans. So you'd be basically downgrading if you went to ICS.
Rooting is done to allow you adminstrator priveliges in Linux, similar to being an administrator in Windows rather than a standard user. You don't need to be rooted, most of the thing can be done without rooting. However, as you continue to use your device, you will often find apps that require changes in the system, hence their requirement will be to be rooted. Trying out different ROMs, customising it so that your wife/gf doesn't recognise your device will P) require you to root your device. For most devices , its pretty simple to root. However, you will learn as you read through posts and threads, and watch videos. Welcome to the Android world!

Yes, 4.1 is Jellybean but ICS is a downgrade. It came before Jellybean so you're better off sticking with JB.
It's not a requirement to root your phone but it's great because it gives you complete control of the phone. More control than the phone companies want us to have.
But I would suggest that you don't concentrate on rooting just yet. I say this because you're new to Android and trying to learn too much too quickly can become really confusing.
Before you even think about being ready to root, use these forums and read up about rooting and you'll learn everything you need to know.

My phone, after I did a check, is running 2.3.6, which is Gingerbread right?
Ok thanks for the replies. It was informational
Anyway, if I were to root the phone, every different version has its own process to root right?
For example if I am running 2.3.6, and root it.. After I do a upgrade to ICS, I would have to re-root right? Am I getting this right?

Yes that's Gingerbread.
The bit you're wrong about is the rooting bit. Rooting a device doesn't allow you to update to ICS when you couldn't before. If all you want to do is update to ICS then you don't need to root, you just need to look into flashing the device. When flashing it puts a whole different eom, kernel, theme etc onto the device.
You'll be better off looking that up through threads here on XDA or by watching videos on YouTube to show you how to do it. That's how I learnt to do it all.

That depends. If you root your phone, and YOU perform the upgrade, i.e. you flash a modded rom, 99.9% of the time the dev who created it will add the su(superuser) app into the rom so that you end up flashing the rom and re-rooting your phone in the process.
With that being said, if you happen to receive an OTA update randomly, telling you that android needs to update, and you decide that's what you want to run, flashing that one WILL take away your su privileges. That is due to the fact that these OTA's are pushed out by your phone manufacturer, and what you are trying to do (gain su access) isn't what the manufacturers wants you doing, per say, so THEY don't include the su app. Happy hacking. Number one tip I could give ya: don't b afraid to Google every question, or topic you're interested in. Make Google your best friend.

Jeez, I am confused.

I just got the Note today, and I have the GSIII. I am testing them both out. I was told rooting the Note and installing recovery was super easy but there are like 15 guides and I don't know how to root this thing.
I need a guide, and then maybe some suggestions to good ROM's once I actually figure out how to root.
Any help is appreciated.

Honestly I just suggest flashing an ICS custom ROM. Easier than kies, and better anyways.
If you want to try out the "stock ICS" feel, look no further than here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1664980
that will still have smemo and all the stock widgets and launcher. It's just de-bloated, deodexed, and rooted. It's pretty much like stock on steroids.
If you don't care about the stock feel or the spen or touchwiz stuff, try anything else out there. Lots of good ROMs, all better than stock through kies.
I'm currently running rasroygbiv's Gubment Cheeze, a CM9 based ROM, and it's awesome. Haven't had an ounce of lag, and I've been testing it for quite a while now, before it was released here. Highly recommended that you at least try it if you like the whole CM9 thing.
And for your gs3, look for Nunhugger's Triune, it's a stockish debloated rooted ROM and he's doing some sweet things theming stock touchwiz.
