Probably a repost, but I didn't see it here. Anyone have the email app connected to Google apps working? Mine keeps saying cannot connect to server. I don't want to just use gmail app because its for my work email and I want to use the peak/off peak settings so I don't get notified of every work email while sitting at my work computer.

If you mean a using a gmail account in the stock email app yes i do because the stock email app allows you to embed images and no other client or app does. I have no issues with this account in stock email app.

I have the exact same issue as the OP and there are a couple of threads (somewhere?) with no resolution.
Before everyone chimes in with "My Gmail works fine" the problem is with google apps accounts. That is a google email account with your own domain that you most likely pay for or use with business accounts.
It is a really frustrating bug. You put in the correct credentials and setup works fine but upon returning to the mail screen the app just says 'Cannot connect to ACCOUNT"
One possible workaround is to use the mail app from the galaxy note or similar devices as described in a thread in the themes/apps section but you loose the peak/offpeak settings.
If anyone has any more info please chime in!

Right now I'm using IMAP and it works....but the whole point of exchange active sync was to utilize the peak and off peak settings while I'm at my desk so I don't get duplicate emails and it saves battery as well.

Simply put, trying to get my Hotmail account working on my Note has been a nightmare. I've tried every app I can find and none seem to work with anything other than POP3. The stock eMail client on ICS 4.0.4 *kinda* works with the exchange server, with the problem of having to scroll to the bottom of every single eMail and click on "Load More Details". The way it handles combined view is also clunky and awkward. This is obviously unacceptable. Is this fixed in JB? Do I need to install a custom ROM? I read that the HTC Sense-based ROMs don't have this issue. All I want is to have IMAP/Exchange access to both my Hotmail and GMail accounts smoothly running in one app, and for some reason it's damn near impossible.
Nobody knows how to get email running properly on Android? For something that is so simple on an iPhone, Google/Samsung have really dropped the ball on one of the most basic and universal requirements of a smartphone.
Have you tried maildroid?

Try K9mail. Its free. It also does IMAP too.

i just use the stock email app. the yellow one. works fine since gingerbread
Tried Maildroid. Tried K9. Hotmail will only work as POP3, I've tried every setting possible for IMAP or Exchange and it just doesn't work. Stock eMail works with Exchange but I have to scroll to the bottom of the message through all the HTML code and click "Load More Details" on every email before I can read it. Apparently this is a new safety feature in Samsung products, possibly starting (and ending?) with ICS, I'm not entirely sure, but it stinks. My only option appears to be using separate dedicated clients for Hotmail and Gmail. The grouping is also clunky with "combined view" in the stock eMail app, requiring 3 clicks and scrolling to the bottom of each message in order to read a single Hotmail message. Insane.
Can anybody verify if the "Load More Details" issue is fixed in any or all of the JB roms? This seems to be an issue isolated to newer Samsung phones running ICS and it's hard to find any info on it.

Hmmm. I don't have to scroll.to the bottom and hit load more details on mine. Get 20 - 50 emAils a day through exchange. Have you checked your settings? There is one for a size limit that my be causing your problem.
I will check and see what it is.

Here you go.
from a galaxy far far away....
Tried that already, doesn't work. Still need to click on "load more details" for every single email. Like I said, I read somewhere that this is a new security feature and we're supposed to just deal with it. Something about how they don't want images to be autoloaded because it confirms to phishers that the email has been viewed. I'd like to know if this is also the case with custom roms, or is it just a security "feature" from Samsung? Also, exchange is not working properly, seems that even the stock email is acting as POP3. Again, this is for Hotmail, which as I understand is more complicated to configure than other services because of the limitations by Microsoft or something.
I would appreciate any input from people that have experienced this issue, especially if they found a fix. I was trying to avoid rooting my phone and flashing a custom ROM but this may just be the tipping point...
I use enhanced email. When you set up the account, enter your email address and password and select "manual setup"
On the set up screen make sure for iser name you use your email address for the server use m.hotmail.com
Just follow the rest of the setup and you will have it
It is a paid app, but ir works with no worries. I have my corporate mail, live mail and outlook.com mail set up as push and it works great.
Hope this helps

I had a DNA demo unit for about two weeks. I was able to add my Live Hotmail and Yahoo! accounts through their respective account types under Accounts & Sync. I liked the DNA, so I went ahead and ordered one. I received it today, but it's not letting me set up my Live Hotmail or Yahoo! accounts. I keep getting a message saying "503 80383: Pin expired." I've read the workaround where you add them using the regular Mail account type, but then you don't get the Live Hotmail or Yahoo! notification icon when you get new mail. You just get the regular Mail icon. I have no idea why it worked on the demo unit, but won't work on mine. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!
Don't set them up three "yahoo" or "hotmail" . Use other

I always recommend getting the specific yahoo or Hotmail apps from the play store, they seem to work much better than using the stock mail app.

Hadn't thought of that. Maybe I'll give it a try.
I had same issue, but it is possible. Set up like this:
Select as an Exchange account
Server: "m.hotmail.com"
Username: your email address
Make sure box is checked for encrypted SSL
There is a lot about this on the hotmail/outlook help site. Good luck.

My wife has an exchange account on her S4, as do I.
She is running stock/unrooted ME7 (took the OTA, could care less about rooting).
When she creates an exchange calendar event on her PC in Outlook, it syncs to the phone normally.
However, she can't edit any exchange calendar entries on her phone that she creates on her PC. She can edit exchange events she creates on the phone after she creates them.
When we look at the event on her phone, the "organizer" of the meeting is her, but the Edit options are missing from the Menu options when viewing the event - all she has on the Menu options for the event is Copy, Delete, and Share Via.
Anyone have any ideas/suggestions? Her company enables using active sync to allow employees to put there exchange accounts on their phone, but don't really provide any support options for their employees, so there isn't anyone she can ask at work about this, and I'm flummoxed.
EDIT: Solved...such a dumb thing Google did. The email address you use when setting up an exchange account is case sensitive! I removed and re-set up her account following the case exactly and she can edit events on her phone that were created on her PC.
Details here: https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=13779
Hope this helps someone else...
This is more of a band-aid but has she tried Google Calendar from the Play Store? Maybe its an issue with s-planner. The other possibility is some obscure setting on her exchange server or an IT policy in place.

Thanks. You were probably posting as i was, but as noted, I did find the solution.
Just in case anyone was curious, I had tried Google Calendar from the market and that did not solve the problem.

Gmail Feature: Gmailify
There's a %100 chance that you already have and use Gmail on your Android phone. So I'm not going to exactly blow our mind when I tell you about this app. However there is a new feature that was announced recently that might have gone under the radar for some of you. "Gmailify" is the horribly named new feature that lets you use any Yahoo or Hotmail email address with the Gmail app and take advantage of all of your favorite Gmail features.
Now I can consolidate both my @Live and @gmail addresses in one app. The Gmail client has always been my favorite app to use for email. So I much prefer to use this than a third party client to consolidate my accounts.
To get stared just add a new account like you would normally and you'll see the option to add your @Live and @YAHOOO accounts. Check out this video that was uploaded to Google's YouTube channel.
Download Gmail
How many of you will take advantage of this feature?
Well, more years ago than I can remember I pretty much linked all of my emails to Gmail, so I've had this functionality across all platforms since then.
For as long as I can remember the android app has also let me choose which of these addresses to send from.
I'd recommend that approach tbh.
Can be done from the site. This app-feature lead me to it so that was useful. But I can read all the email accounts by anything accessing the gmail, Android and desktop applications.
Has anyone figured out how to Gmailify more than one account. I want to Gmailify both my hotmail account and my yahoo account. I can do either, but not both. Very silly limitation.

That's not gmailfying, thats just adding an account to the gmail app (which has been around for years). Gmailifying means gmail completely takes over, when you open gmail (from any device) you will have the mail from the gmailified account alongside your gmail. Adding an account the way you describe is just local on the app. What you need to do is "link" an account, not just add an account. To do this, after you add an account, go into the setting and chose link to gmail. However, if you already have 1 account linked it will tell you that you can't have another one linked. I hope this makes sense.

OP gave up.
I have a terrible solution for your problem!
Just use 2 different users on your device, have 2 different sets of apps. With 2 different Gmailify apps, you can link both accounts separately. Will it work? Am I genius or a fool?

Well there's a 0% chance that I ve ever used the gmail app on my devices. I'm playing with CloudMagic email app now, it does what I want it to with all my email addys across the spectrum (course the stock Samsung email app did most of that, but wasn't installed on this custom rom)

I'm looking for an email app that can connect to gmail and yahoo mail without necessarily connecting through accounts that are on the device.
An app that is independent of the information that is on the device. The same way an app from a website connects to your account on their site without having to go through the accounts set up on device (if i understand it right.)
Is there such a thing?

Are these options safe? Well what i mean exactly is, is my personal info and privacy kept from being sold and what not? Cloudmagic does use cloud services and i assume outlook works in a similar fashion. If these email apps do the same thing that the native gmail app will do with any information i summon use and keep on my phone anyway, then it's kinda back to square one. I'm using moboclean to keep as much info on my phone (mainly my contact list) away from these communicative apps. Since i have a couple of alternate email accounts, i would like to use a particularly different app for one of my accounts and not get it mixed up with all the info sharing the other apps do.
Now if there is something that i've misunderstood on how some of these apps work, let me know. There is still some learning i need to do, but i really don't like the idea that some of these apps have inevitable permissions to access account details stored by other apps on my device and what not.
I just need the email app to work literary like a browser, like how i would access gmail through google's mail.google.com web page, but instead, the apps will use my credentials to login to my inbox automatically and not tie my device to my account in anyway, nor tie my account to my device. And google or yahoo or whatever, will think i'm accessing my email through a normal desktop computer.
Maybe i'm asking too much in our "out of control" world of today.
But thank you. I do appreciate all your help.
