Sveiki everyone
Since the Asus Padfone's doesn't have it's own subforum i'll just post here in the generic section. Anyways, the Asus Padfone is a truly interesting concept and really seems like a quality product too. And I'm optimistic about Asus' update policy too, though one should always remain sceptical. I am considering getting the Asus Padfone as my first serious Android device (I've toyed with NITdroid and Android x86 on my EeePC 901).
The Padfone connects to the Pad station via USB and HDMI connectors. I would like to ask if anybody knows or could empirically tests how generic these interfaces are both on the phone and the tablet. F.ex. could I connect generic USB devices (keyboard, USB sticks etc) directly to the phone's USB port, could I connect a screen/monitor to the phone's HDMI output, could I connect the station to an HDMI output of a computer and use it as an external little screen, or could I connect the station to a computer via USB and it's touchscreen would work as an input device etc.
I don' know what's the method in Android to try these sorts of things (in generic GNU/Linux land we have lsusb), but if somebody could concretely tests these things and post them online I would really appreciate it and that would absolutely nail my decision about getting the device.
Also if somebody can explain the relationship of Mobile Hi-definition Link (MHL) in the Asus Padfone -product, that would be very nice. As far as I understand MHL can transport the video and audio too via the USB interface, so I do not know what the HDMI is really used for between the Padfone and it's Station.
Cheers!

Really two questions:
1. Is there a way to adjust resolution or over/underscan on the HDMI output of the tablet? When I have the tablet connected to my TV, there is about 1-2" of black border around the mirrored image.
2. I am trying to output to a LCD Monitor, mHDMI>HDMI adapter to HDMI>DVI cable connected to my Monitor, but the Monitor does display any image - not even a "out of display range" error. The monitor will briefly turn on, then dispaly "no signal." Both adapter and cable work independently of each other when attached to my TV. Is this a problem with the tablet, cable configuration, or my monitor?
Is there anything I can do to check/adjust the signal out from the Tablet? I am using the OG Samsung Dock w/HDMI out. Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.
[Edit] Currently running Tasks 14 Full Rom with Pershoot's latest kernel. And I have the WiFi only version.
same issue
I have a samsung galaxy 10.1 tab in the office and I am trying to do HDMI mirroring. I do not have a dock but I have HDTV Adapter. I do not have a HDMI monitor at office. So, I used a HDMI to DVI converter. When connected, nothing happens. no errors on the monitor just like you said.
So, does it require a TV/Monitor which has a HDMI input?
Or does it simply require a media dock?
[Edit] Does HDMI mirroring requires rooting?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
I would assume HDMI mirroring is built-in, as they sell addons for HDMI output. Semi glad to see someone else has the problem... but now its two of us with the same problem lol. Later this week I'm going to try an ICS build, see if there is any difference.

Well, I was glad I was not the only one with this problem
I did some Googling, search Android HDMI to VGA. Should turn up some links exposing the issue. Basically, android cannot natively do VGA. Need a HDMI to VGA converter, possibly powered, but there isn't much information. Dealextreme sells one for $38... and it may not work.
Sucks, seems like a decades old standard would be something engineers would think to maintain compatibility with.

give up
At this point of time, I am giving up and tell my boss to buy a new tablet. This is my office one.
I have Coby Kyros - bought it for cheapness. Will try rooting that.
mHDMI Connected to HDMI>DVI Cable = No Output on Monitor?
I have exactly the same problem with my XOOM and my Samsung T220 DVI-D monitor
I note that noboby has actually answered the questions posed by the previous posters.
Is that because no one knows??
The HDMI and the DVI-D signals are both fully digital and according to info I read on the web are pretty compatible.
I have aslo seen implied that a 5V signal which the DVI-D requires is maybe not available on the HDMI output.
How about some of you clever tech guys on the forums letting us less well gifted folks know if this is really a no-no and maybe why this is the case.
Thanks in advance for your help
Sorry folks have posted this in the wrong place ooops
Do you guys think if I hook a microusb to hdmi adaptar it would connect to the tv. Think it would show a picture?also along those lines....whatabout a microusb to usb adapter for wireless 360 controller? think it would work?
Wired 360 controller works. Wireless does not.
thanks! i wondered about that. i know sony tablet doesnt have hdmi support. i just want my tablet to show up on my tv. anyone know a way to do it. and i dont mean dnla. i want to run my emulators on the tablet through the tv
I'm pretty certain that this is not possible. The HDMI-out used in microUSB adapters requires hardware in the device. As far as I am aware, the Sony doesn't include this capability. The USb port would need to be wired to the display output which the Sony doesn't have. Sony doesn't include a hardware display output since Sony's plan for their mobile devices (the same thing that lead to quite a few of the Sony's unique features) includes more support for future technologies like DLNA.
Have you seen the vscreens app? Am pretty sure that if you had an android powered tv device (a google tv box perhaps), you might be able to see the tablet on the tv by pairing the 2 screens. Though I dont have a google box, so cant test this theory!
For replacement of the HDMI port I am waiting for a stick called "Xbounds".
Just use Google and you will find some very interesting videos. The developer dreamchip is on a fair end of April, maybe there he will offer some news
To have output video from the micro usb the port must be a MHL port, and the Tablet S port isn't. So I think it's impossible to have video out with this tablet.
Hi Guys,
i bought a motorola atrix lapdock and i'm looking for a way to connect this with my samsung galaxy s2. I think, the easy part is the connection via hdmi to the smartphone. The Problem is to connect the keyboard/mouse output over the female micro usb connector with the phone.
Im looking for some kind of 'wireless' solution. There are a lot of bluetooth keyboards (and mouse) devices available on the market, which works with a smartphone.
In my imagination i have a small device which tunnel the keyboard and mouse signal over something like bluetooth to the smartphone.
Did anyone see something like this? Or has someone a another idea, how i can to connect the lapdock mouse/keyboard to the phone.

You can probably look into building your own converter using this:
https://www.sparkfun.com/products/10823
Haven't seen anyone do it before but I think it's technically possible.
Late to the party, but I think it can be done too. The lapdock keyboard and trackpad are usb hid (someone please correct me if I'm wrong). So, thinking out loud:
Lapdock usb --> usb microcontroller --> bluetooth hid
That's oversimplified, but it's a start. Question is, would such a setup recognize both keyboard and trackpad, or just one of the two?
**edit**
I found a link to a guide using an arduino and a bluesmirf hid. But I can't insert links yet, so if you google "arduino bluetooth hid" one of the results should be a site called kobakant. Very interesting write-up there.
Can the USB otg and HDMI be used at the same time?
My situation now is that I have the Moga Pro Power that I picked up at the pawn shop for $40
Noticed that it has quite a bit of lag using the A-mode, and still a noticeable amount of lag in B-mode, approximately 100ms.
So I'm wondering if it's possible to connect a wired controller via USB otg, and if that might have less input lag.
I'm also curious if I can output to HDMI while connected to a wired USB controller.
If I could create like a docking station on my TV that turns my phone into a mean little media station/console, that would be completely badass.
I saw this adapter on Amazon and eBay, it connects to the phone's microusb on one end, and has ports for HDMI, SD, Micro-SD, USB, and a Micro-usb for powering the phone and any attached USB device at the same time. You can find it by searching "otg slimport" on Amazon or eBay.. Selling for under $13 on eBay. Unfortunately, the same product on Amazon has only a 2 star rating. Reviews saying the charging port isn't working as advertised, and HDMI connection is touchy, and certain TVs are incompatible. So it looks like a no-go. China will manufacture and sell just about any hodgepodge of wires and plastic they think consumers will buy, that doesn't mean it will work.
So now I'm wondering if this sort of function is even possible, and if so, is there a product available that can provide it, and if there is no product like that, can somebody please make it?
So I did a bit of research, and it seems there's definitely some technical limitations as far as charging the phone wile in "host" mode. This means that while connected to USB OTG, the circuitry that is normally used to charge the phone, is used to supply power to the attached USB devices. I found a site that has a modified kernel for the Nexus 7 that enables charging the phone while connected to devices via OTG. https://mehrvarz.github.io/usb-host-mode-power-management-nexus7/
Maybe this could be implemented in the V10
Hi!
Background:
I'm an esport producer and after some nightmare productions I'm really excited about the rog phone as it seams to be the only phone that have the features needed to make it into a good esports phone (e.g. Having 8-10 players competing in from of an audience), mainly: Hdmi output, ethernet capabilities and usb-c ports on the side..
Problem: After first successfully testing out Hdmi + ethernet connection I wanted to try if I could use the fan accessory and still be able to get the Hdmi signal from it.. When I connected the fan it told me to update the fan firmware so I did, but after that I'm not able to get Hdmi signal either with or without the fan accessory.. For instance, when I plug in my portable asus laptop monitor (power and signal from usb-c) the monitor starts to boot up and then dies.. Then tries again and dies and so on.. On my Samsung s8 it works fine.. So I'm guessing the firmware limits the power that the phone can output on the usb-c port.
Question, has anyone else experienced this issue? Is there a way to uninstall the fan firmware update (that obviously did not only affect the fan but the phone as well). The Hdmi adapter I used was something very similar to the professional dock but is actually an usb-c dock ment for laptops..
Tl:dr; hdmi doesn't work after "fan firmware update", plez halp.

Just a small update,
I was able to get it to work if I disconnect the power cable from the USB-C dongle and then connect it again.. and sometimes it also requires me to disconnect the HDMI + reconnecting that as well.. so I'm not sure if this actually was due to the fan firmware or just a result of a... weird bug(?) when it comes to the OTG features of the phone.. because connecting the dongle with both HDMI + power already plugged in does not work.
Anyway, just wanted you guys to know that it does work, just need to randomly connect/disconnect cables from the dongle first =)
Best regards,
Which USB-C to HDMI adapter were you using? I am looking for one that works with this device, aside from the fairly costly pro dock.
