Changing clock frequency on stock kernel - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Is it possible to underclock the stock kernel using SetCPU? I tried setting max freq to 800 MHz but the phone rebooted. What is the reason for this?

Because stock kernel doesn't allow to OC/UC.

Use Voltage Control (VC) app from Play store.
As long as you stay between the min. and max. frequency range of the stock kernel (200 MHz - 1200 MHz), you can change the maximum frequency to 800 MHz.
Don't foget to store bootsettings (via VC app menu) as service after changing the max. freq., so that this will be applied after each reboot.

[Q] SetCPU and SuperClean 2.9.2

I have a SetCPU profile set for when my Fascinate's screen is off. Is it okay to leave the min/max clock speeds at 100MHz?
From what I heard and experience set profiles are not recommended for our phones. When I use to set my phone to 100 mhz, my phone would not want to wake up. I would have to do a battery pull to wake it up. I would recommend to not set profiles. I have a oc kernel so i use set cpu to under clock or over clock the cpu.

I have just experienced this. I am now wondering how does the SmartAss cpu governor work on the source based kernel linked in the SuperClean thread?

[Q] SetCPU and cm7

If i have SetCPU installed on cm7 and a profile to drop the cpu to 245 mhz when the screen is off will the built in cm7 cpu settings/govenor over ride setcpu profile and allow the cpu to do whatever the cm7 govenor allows?

No. Its the opposite, setcpu will override the built in cpu control.

[Q] rom toolbox

Hey guys can any of you help me out. When I first downloaded Rom toolbox pro and went to the CPU slider I had it set to 1450 Max and 216 min. When you went to it you could see the scale go up to the Max and down to the min running full scale. Now when I go to it the number at the top will only drop down to 800 and not 216 like before.
I am running the 1.45 kernel and redpill rom
Thanks
Do you have any other CPU modifying apps (SETCPU, system tuner...) installed? And if so do u have any types of CPU profiles set up in toolbox or in other apps?

No other CPU apps and I don't think I have changed any settings I don't change stuff unless I know what it does.

Set CPU

When i use set cpu and set the highest clock at 1 ghz it still goes past it to 1.2 ghz. Im useing siyah. Any help will be appreciated.

I doubt your kernel has anything to do with it because Siyah's kernel does support both OC and UC. Do you have any profiles that have a maximum of 1200Mhz instead of 1000Mhz? Those could be kicking in even when you don't want them to if you aren't careful.

Nope I'm not using any profiles. Although in CWM in kernel specific options I did select performance mode if that has any thing to do with it

Try deselecting that option or selecting a different one. I don't have a ton of experience with Siyah, but a performance mode sounds to me like it will default to the maximum CPU speed. Which on the SGH-I777 is 1200Mhz, stock.

Ok I will try that out

Performance is a Governor for the CPU that sets it to Max frequency . That's what its FOR. So its doing what its supposed to. As previously stated you have to switch to a different governor in order to underclock.

I'm not talking about the governor in CWM there is a option for default, battery and performance
Sent from my SGH-I777 using xda premium
No, he doesn't mean anything to do with CWM. When you're selecting or switching to a governor, a list comes up and depending on the governor, your CPU will behave a certain way. If the maximum is set at 1200Mhz and is going to that speed when you have performance governor on, that's what is supposed to happen.

Uninstall any other clocking apps and clear application data (manage applications) for SetCPU.

Change your governer to something other than lulzactive.
lulzactive forces your CPU at a certain rate. Thus, the "active". and the "lulz" on my end.

Minimum CPU frequencies won't stick

Whenever I try to set minimum CPU frequencies higher than the default value, no matter what app I'm using or what kernel or Rom it just won't stick. Governors and maximum frequencies stick though. Is there any way around this? Thanks in advance!
Sent from my LT22i using xda app-developers app
Minimum should be changed a lot, you're phone will overheat in no time
For best performance overclock the cpu to the max stable level and use the performance govenor
Hope it helped!
