Nils' Business Sense 4 - HTC Rezound

Was wondering if anyone has downloaded this Rom or could perhaps provide me with some guidance. I am currently on my first Rom, Scott's CleanRom Pro 4.5, this is a very good Rom and simple to install. My question is, Nils' states not to flash over another Rom, what does this mean and how do i go about doing this correctly. Additionally, he mentions not restoring apps, what then is the point of Titanium if not to restore apps. I would like to preemptively thank anyone who can help, also thank you Scott for a great Rom, and Nils' for the work put in on this new Rom.

Ok first boot into recovery , wipe everything . Then flash Nils Rom , and old software patch and kernel if you are s-on, otherwise you will have issues . You may have issues when restoring apps do to the android version and sense version and it may cause force closes not related to the Rom . When complete enjoy .

Sounds easy enough, as far as apps go I was more curious about non-system apps, i.e. Angry Birds progress

You should be fine restoring non system apps . If you have problems just uninstall and then re install . But you should be good to go .

I recommend restoring app only, then data, when switching ROMs.
Normally not a big deal, but I have had the occasional issue, and this seems to make it go silky smooth.
One extra step, less headache.

Thanks for the tip... I've overlooked the distinction of "system apps" in the past and avoided doing TB restores at all. Knowing that it's okay with some apps, and staging the data later will make things much smoother after my install of Nils' latest ROM build in a few minutes.

Im done with this (Cant Flash Correctly)

Hello guys, first I will like to thank all of you for supporting the forum and for helping me a lot. I been trying by far do the list below and I cant get it to work correctly in more then 20 attempts and Im afraid I will totally brick my vibrant.
Done Procedures;
I have ROOTed the Phone
BackUp all my files using Titanium
Flashed ClockWorkMod with Rom Manager
Flashed with ROM Bionix V 1.3.1
Delete Cache and Dalvik...
Rebooted system
At that point everything is good but once I install a kernel I start having problems with the SD recognition by PC and Installing or un-installing apps to device
Any tips or step by step how should do to install Bionix 1.3.1 with kernel Tigers Blood with Voodoo sound and colors without a problem?
or maybe to install Axura with out been so lagging.
Any reason for not testing Trigger, with OverStock 2.2?
Try trigger, or a 2.2.1 port. Pne of those may work faster.

I will try this mate and report back. I just did an back up and now lets just see how this setup does it for me. All I want is a good theme ROM, fast and stable, Honestly I loved the Axura ROM but is to lagging for me for some reason.
Bionix is great but I have the same problem with all the roms I install. When the USB is not detected then is the apps cant be install or un-install.
Will try this one as I havent yet and besides it gives me more experience nothing to loose.
Thanks mate

OMG here we go again, I think Im doing something wrong. I have the same issue as the more same I do like the How to's state I have the problem with installing and un-installing soft. When i even try to restore my back up for apps from Titanium it wont let me since all the apps stay like computing. I think is something wrong with the apps system or something.
I havent flashed yet the kernel.
I will try to install the ROM again
Not to sound rude, but did you follow the instructions in the noob guide on the proper way to backup, flash and restore?
Perhaps you should just ODIN back to stock and start over if you have.
Let me know if I can help, try and be detailed in your posts though... that last one, I really have no clue what you were trying to say.
Odin root cwm flash...... I hope your only flashing one thing at a time... Not rom+kernel+theme+ boot animation or somthing wildly stupid

I really love this ROM looks great and very smooth. I will use ODIN and go back to stock then I will root and then will flash with CWM and comeback here for some tips. I want to get this right for the first time at least.
TY so much mate
Ok, Im done, I have installed the ROM and let it sit for 10 mins at least then rebooted. What step should I do now to flash a kernel like Tiger blood or OverStock.
Or what will be the next step other then configuring the login for google?

I did used the ODIN to Stock Flash my phone and then one out a time after reboot ect...
you may want to stay stock trigger for awhile and test it out.
when ready, download overstock 2.2, move it to sdcard/, reboot to CWR, install from zip (like a rom), after you flash it, reboot.... you'll notice a new splash screen for overstock, all done.

Ok, I have seen enough of this. lol I so sad to see how easy this is but frustrated when I get problems like the one I still have. Everything was great until I started installing the apps from the Titanium back up i made. It did installed about 15 apps but after those been installed successfully it just got stocked loading and it wont install any more apps or even un-install. Cant even install apps from the market.
What is wrong with this thing, is very stressful try and try and get the same result on 4 different ROMS I have tested already. I really hate to ask for help as I like to read and try it for myself so I can about a new hobby.
But this one is biting my hand very hard. Can you please tell me ehat can I do in this case mate to trouble shoot this?
Thank you for your time friend
Something I have done a bit different is that I have put the files in separate folders for more organize.
Like for sample; at sd_root/ I have a folder name Download which it have sub-folders that look like this tree below
Download
//
-Kernels/
-Metamorhp Mods/
-Misc Mods/Apps
-Modems
-Mods
-Roms
-Themes
Do you think that will be a problem by not having the Files at the root location at SD?
When you are restoring your titanium back ups, are you only restoring apps? I mean, are you restoring system data too? You don't want to restore system data, and only restore apps. Sometimes restoring system data from previous roms can cause problems.
If this still doesn't help, you might just want to redownload all your apps, and then make a backup. Sounds like your issue is linked to titanium back up.

That makes sence!! I will load the ROM again and start over and see how it goes installing just the apps. I was restoring the apps and data
If it doenst help I will continue your suggestion to install the apps one by one NOT from the Titanium as it was back up from a different ROM.
thanks i will let know how it goes.
stay away from restoring system data when flashing roms. Just the apps with the app data. Hope this helps man. If not, let's go over the entire order of what you are doing and we will figure out what is going on.

Ok here goes to nothing. I have dont everything correctly like the Guide's stating and everything works great at first but them it just stop working the whole file system apparently. Is just works great and after few app installs it just fail. When I go to check the files from the File management it just say Computing instead of loading and give the file size info ect....
What can it be I dont have a clue as I have search the whole forum and I dont see this problem posted by any other. Its just wont install, un-install or even cant stop any app from working.
What else can i do?
When backing up with Titanium, its okay to back up user apps and their data. As far as system data, Titanium has it sorted by what is and isn't safe to restore. Green entries are all good, don't back up any entries with red text.
This is how I've been backing up stuff since before 2.2 dropped, and I've never run into any strange issues.
Just a shot in the dark, but it might be a bad sd card, or just needing a format. Try backing up all your sd files on your computer, and format your sd card and see if that helps. I had some funky stuff going on with my phone, and it went away after I did that.

Upgrade with data?

I am new to these forms and was wondering if there was a good walk-through/guide for changing your phone data over when you are upgrading to a newer version of the same rom.
Thanks to your forms already I have no problem switching roms but I do have a few favorites I would like to keep updated without starting fresh. Pointing me in the right direction or any advice would be much appreciated!

Don't know what you mean by the "Recovery Mod".
I use the method I outline in my post here; about the middle of my post, in response to PieceKeepr, starting with my third paragraph to him.
"TB" in my post is "Titanium Backup" on the Android Market.
Ya what I ment by "Recovery Mod" was the Rom Manager ClockworkMod. Will check out your post, thanks for the advice.

I'm still not sure what ClockworkMod has to do with merging data, but as long as you know what you mean, that's what's important! Maybe you meant you did a no wipe (Dalvik wipe only) update? Sorry I'm having trouble understanding.
Not quite what I ment but probably the same result. What I did was Backup the whole current system (nand) currently running GSB 2.1 then did a system/data/dalvic wipe and installed the new GSB 2.4 CM7 booted it up with gapps etc. Made sure it was working. Then rebooted and went into recovery and restored just the user data.

Also thanks again for the advice on Titanium Backup it works good and I really like their use of just being able to restore data. I was looking for just an app, however because I am a Designer by trait I only overlooked their program because I didn't like the icon... silly me.

You're welcome. For a long time I swore by My Backup but once Titanium Backup was updated for Gingerbread it actually works better for me than it ever did all the other times I tried it before. Especially with the option in TB's preferences to restore apps to the locations that it backed them up from, since I use Apps2SD to move a lot of my apps to the SD card, so that's just one more thing I don't have to do.

I do like the data restore better on TB and of course MyBackup I did use before but it didn't have the options I was trying to find. Anyways what I did was make a complete system backup using ClockworkMod Recovery, then like I said installed the new version. Booted back to recovery and from the menu:
- backup and restore > - Advanced Restore >
Then I choose my backup "date bla bla"
- Restore data
Thats about it, hope that helps ~ let me know what you think.
I'm lazy, I just overlay my roms each time. I think I've been doing it this round since about GSB 1.6 or 1.7 when I had to do a full wipe because something got glitchy.
Previously when I was on KF, I went quite a while with flashovers.

Ya, it seems to work pretty good, haven't found much wrong with it I do the same as you for the new versions.
1. Make a backup
2. Wipe
3. Install new version
4. Install gapps
5. Boot it
6. Reboot into recovery do the cache2cache
7. Restore data...

Problems after Titanium Restore

I knew I might have problems when using Titanium Backup to restore my apps and data from my Captivate to my new SGS2. I did some research prior and could not find any information that said there would be a problem for sure, so I went ahead.
Now I am having a bunch of force closes... Messenging, e-mail, bunch of things not working at all. Suggestions?
Information: Rooted SGS2 running 2.3.4, build GB.UCKH7
I think the best thing to do now is a complete wipe... But I am not sure how to do that without messing up my phone since it is rooted. Also, even if I do wipe it, how do I restore my text messages, phone log, etc, without messing it up again? Is this even possible or should I give up?
FYI: I have never restored to a different phone before, only from Captivate to Captivate.
Thanks in advance.
It is not recommended to restore system apps going from one rom to another, so I can only assume coming from another phone is such a bad idea.
Restoring user apps is all you should do, but from another phone I don't know how that works exactly.
For messages, call logs, check the market for a few apps that will do that for you.
Did you try to restore your mms and phone log by restoring the apk? I do not think you can do that from one phone to a different phone.
You should backup and restore with something like "SMS Backup +" from Google Play.
EDIT// Damn I'm too slow
restoring from device to device is fine...however it would appear that you restored SYSTEM data
or
you restored all apps + data instead of MISSING apps+data....big difference.

I selected the option "Backup all user apps + system data," which I already figured out was the WRONG option. Grrr.
What is the best way to fix this situation I am in? Since my phone is rooted, I am hesitant to use the menu systems to reset since that might mess up my phone.
I suppose installing a custom rom will fix the issue for sure, right? I was not sure I wanted to get into that with this phone.
Install a custom rom and be done with it.
If you like stock give that latest leak a try and enjoy ICS.
I'm with lilchris on this one. Just do a clean install of a custom rom then only restore user apps. In my experience restoring system data is just way more trouble then its worth. Google stores your critical information (contacts etc.) and everything else is not worth the pain.

Would you recommend stock or your ICS Rom? I actually prefer custom roms, I was just not sure I wanted to spend all the time putting one on... I guess I have to now!!!! Might as well get a custom one. I miss the custom one I had on my Captivate already!!!
As far as ICS roms go, how does yours rank? It looks pretty awesome.
Thanks.
Phone Bricker ICS Rom
Just installed Chris's Phone Bricker ICS Rom and it truly is AMAZING!!!! ICS has got to be the best Android Rom I have seen yet. I am loving it so much.
Thanks Christ, you are awesome. As soon as my phone finished downloading all my apps (which is did automatically!!! never had that happen with any prior Android Rom!), I will install the update you provided.

[Q] changing roms

I have downgraded bootloader to 1.40 and got s-off. I've been using meanrom for about a week and its alright but i would like to try something different. Are there any way to change roms without losing all your data? When I had my rooted hero, every time I changed roms i would have to reinstall all my apps. Is there anyway to avoid this? Any recommendations on good rom and theme?

I wouldn't suggest just wiping caches when flashing Roms. Unless its the same Rom, ie viperrom beta 2 to viperrom beta 3. I use titanimum backup pro to install all my apps after flashes. Try that its way better then downloading from the market.
Go sms pro is good to back up your sms, and you can export your contacts to your sd card if you don't sync them to google.. beyond that, titanium backup is good for apps.. l

Yea, it IS possible to flash a rom without wiping data, however you will DEFINITELY run into a lot of problems, especially when going from GB to ICS. Just backup texts with SMS Backup and Restore, and backup apps with Titanium. Flash the new rom, download Titanium from the Market, and restore your apps and homescreen layouts. I've flashed many roms, and it takes me less than 45 minutes to flash and get everything back to the way I like it.

Yes you will run into problems but this is how you can do it *DO THIS AT YOU OWN RISK+. Go to Backup and Restore menu, pick advance restore, pick a backup from another ROM, pick Restore DATA and wait! I herd that it worked for SOME people
For me I always go for a fresh install, wipe everything, format all, with the exception of sd cards. As for the backups. I use Titanium, Sms backup pro (or Go sms), and google. Let me know if any of this helped.

fastest way if you want avoid bugs is installing Titanium Backup pro, backup all apps and system data(its good to have everything if you will be returning to same rom), via recovery wipe everything, flash new rom, install TB pro again, restore all missing apps and data, and there mark only green(things like call logs, sms, mms, settings, widgets, wifi spots etc.) and grey (not installed apps, for example games). Recovering everything including all red system data and services may cause some compatibility problems becouse of different roms, especially if comming to another sense/android version. sry for my english

I currently have 1.06.00.1216 but I'm not successful at figuring out how to do the scan for meid locations so far and the aforementioned radio has a list of such floating around. The goal is to boostm.....

[Q] Removable Apps

I'm looking for a list of apps that are safe to remove from the 4.03.605.2 update on the rezound that wont cause any system problems. In other words a list so that I can debloat my device manually. I'm S-OFF and I've been running ViperRez for awhile now but I think im going to go to stock for awhile and theme myself until an update for VR is released. This might seem like a dumb question, I don't have much experience with flashing just kernels, but can I flash 2 different kernels and have them both function? For example, flashing the super charged kernel and the overclock kernel. Or does it have to be one or the other?
U can only flash one kernel at a time....and u can remove anything u don't need.use titanium backup for that.

I'm pretty sure there are certain apps that are required for system functionality. I'm not just talking about the basic removable apps like AmazonMP3, etc. I want to know if there is a detailed list anywhere of system apps, sense widgets and sense components that are safe to remove. I usually don't mess much with Titanium, on previous devices I like to make a "bloat" folder on my SD card and place any unwanted apps in it. Then if I need any of them I can place them back into the /system folder and reset the permissions.
I have TB on my phone and just froze the system apps. But with TB you can back up the system apps first and then remove them. If something starts to not function just restore the app. Hope that helps.
searching would have directed you to here.
