The App Breakdown
Faceniff
FaceNiff is an Android app that allows you to sniff and intercept web session profiles over the WiFi that your mobile is connected to.
It is possible to hijack sessions only when WiFi is not using EAP, but it should work over any private networks (Open/WEP/WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK)
It's kind of like Firesheep for android. Maybe a bit easier to use (and it works on WPA2!).
Anti
ZImperium LTD is proud to annonce Android Network Toolkit - Anti.
Anti consists of 2 parts: The Anti version itself and extendable plugins. Upcoming updates will add functionality, plugins or vulnerabilities/exploits to Anti[
Using Anti is very intuitive - on each run, Anti will map your network, scan for active devices and vulnerabilities, and will display the information accordingly: Green led signals an 'Active device', Yellow led signals "Available ports", and Red led signals "Vulnerability found". Also, each device will have an icon representing the type of the device. When finished scanning, Anti will produce an automatic report specifying which vulnerabilities you have or bad practices used, and how to fix each one of them.
Droidsniff
little brother of DroidSheep
Droidsheep
is an Android app for Security analysis in wireless networks and capturing facebook, twitter, linkedin and other accounts.
fling
???
UsbClever
takes google chrom passwords
WiFi kill
Well, with this app you can disable internet connection for a device on the same network. So if someone (anyone) is abusing the internet wasting precious bandwidth for a Justin Bieber videoclips you could just kill their connection and stay happy with a full bandwidth just for yourself.
NetSpoof
Network Spoofer lets you change websites on other people’s computers – from your phone
Droid Sheep Guard
DroidSheep Guard runs silently and monitores your phones ARP-Table. As long as everything looks normal, it will be invisible. But in case it detects suspicious entries in your phones ARP-Table, it will pop up and warn you. If you want, the WiFi connection is disabled immediately to protect your accounts.
EvilOperator
Prank call
Shark App Pack (shark & shark reader)
Shark
Traffic sniffer, works on 3G and WiFi (works on FroYo tethered mode too).
To open dump use WireShark or similar software, for preview dump on phone use Shark Reader.
Shark reader
Application for reading pcap files
SMS Combo
The SMS Combo allows you to send a simple SMS by touching a single button. This is a lightweight and simple application. You can send multiple SMS by touching the button many times in a row.
It’s very useful for voting to support your favorite candidate with multiple SMS!
WARNING: This is not a SMS bomber or flooder, so don’t comment anything about that.
SMS Retaliator
How many of us receive lots of unwanted messages on a daily basis? With the “SMS Retaliator”, you get to have unique features unlike any other app. This “SMS Retaliator” is a one of a kind Android application that is well tested and easy to make use of for the end user. It does following items:
SMS Block List – This is the first feature, from your smartphone, this feature is going to help you block the unknown/unwanted message sender. All you need to do is update the number in your contact list, and then click on the “SMS Retaliator”. Update the “SMS Retaliator” and you will no longer receive a single message from that particular number. Once you block this person the messages sent by them will not be displayed in your smartphone anymore. These messages will be hidden from your view, as long as you don’t deactivate the contact from the list. Every time you activate or deactivate a contact, you will need to select the “SMS block” button to confirm. Usually in such applications you will be able to block all the messages or bar all the calls, with the “SMS Retaliator”, you get to personally select and blacklist each number.
Reciprocate SMS – This is the second feature, with the “SMS Retaliator”, you can send to either loved one or bothering one with the same message as many times as you want and at any time interval you want. All you need to do is select the “Reciprocate SMS” button, and you are good to go. If you want to play a harmless prank or give the person bothering you a taste of their own medicine, you can make use of this feature.
This application is simple and easy to download from the Android market and effortless to set up. The application is fully secure and all the messages sent are done so only after your personal consent. The application is very fast to use, and is completely trustworthy. There is not a single number that will be blocked on its own, so you can rest assured that you will be blacklisting only those messages that you don’t want to view. Once you install and set up the “SMS Retaliator”, you will realize how effortless the entire process is. Our future versions have a ton of other fantastic features that are sure to make your life problem free, so make sure you keep an eye out for them as well. (The cost of sms depends on your service provider)

22.Spy kit universal mailer
One mail to spoof them all!
A tool you can use to send e-mails from any address in the world. And sometimes get back an answer.
This is what your briefing for today will be about, agent.
As you know, e-mail communication has become an intrinsic part of modern life. It is present in the lives of all, from teenagers to presidents. As such, it can be a very powerful tool in the hands of a capable agent.
Therefore, I would like to introduce you to an important tool of your Spy Kit - the Universal Mailer.
There are similar civilian tools called Fake E-mail, Fake Mailer, Fake Mail, Anonymous E-mail, Anonymous Mail, False Mail, and others. These emulate some of the functions of the Universal Mailer. However, the Agency cannot guarantee their success rate.
With this tool, you can take the e-mail identity of whoever you want, or simply make a new one up. For example you can send someone a mail from Rovio, asking them to help in making the next Angry Birds, or from Tony Stark, asking for some upgrade ideas for the Iron Man suite.
After choosing your sender identity, you can use the rest of the tool as a normal e-mail application. It even has conveniences such as Cc and Bcc, as well as a contact list which automatically stores any new addresses you enter. It's quick, easy, and convenient, and may just be the thing to turn your mission into a successful one.
The tool also has a powerful function called Reply To, which allows you to get responses for the sent e-mail. Basically, it sets a return path for any replies. However it is a tricky function to use, that can sometimes create more problems than solutions, so be sure to read more about it by touching the switch in the Reply To field.
When you start up with the Universal Mailer, your e-mails are limited to 10 per day, in order to prevent misuse. However, as you use the tool, you will level up, and your limit will rise more and more.
This completes the briefing on the Universal Mailer, agent. I would like to add just one more thing. You are solely responsible for the use of this tool, however, always take the time to consider the possible negative consequences of every e-mail you send. And make sure not to use it for negative motives since you will surely be discovered and caught.
Dissmissed!

Hi everyone! Thank you for your help in getting CM up to a flawless standard! We are now almost ready to deploy CM 1.5 - it will include MMS blocking, Class0 auto replies and many other new and very cool features.
We need your help now to iron out any remaining bugs before we embark on a daemon rebuild. Please download the app from the market and get testing! Here are the issues we want to address specifically:
- If you have problems regaining 3G after the telephony restart. This should have been fixed. If not, please try "Slow radio restart" in Debugging and report your results!
- Issues moving list priorities on Light or Dark theme. Again, if you have issues, please switch to the other theme, try again and then report back.
- Notification color schemes. We are interested if the new notifications comply with the majority of frameworks.
Thank you in advance for all your great work, this ultra-awesome app is as much a child of yours as it is of ours

Call Master is the most advanced call and text message firewall available for Android. With unique, powerful features and the proven reliability

★ Your screen will never turn on
★ Private call and SMS sandbox with log sweeper

★ Powerful widget
Features:
☆ Ultra flexible list creation
☆ Seven reject methods
☆ Filter SMS by content
☆ Automatic text routing and replies

This is a fully functional application. However, after a 24 hour demo period it will start nagging you to buy the Key, which will remove all nag
screens and timeouts from the interface. The nag screens are pretty light though, so users who dont want to spend can live with them.

Guys, an update has been rolled out. It contains an important new workaround thast needs to be tested.
It may help those people who have data issues, especially on LTE enabled phones sometimes.
Please help me test this by installing the app, rebooting and waiting for data to return with the screen on. Please wait 3 minutes at least before sending logs via "Write to developer" in the app.
Dont forget to include a description. Thanks!
Well? Any comments?
Any issues to report?
None here, app is working flawlessly!
Any issues to report? We are working on a new build, so now is the time...
So, has anyone had a chance to do some testing?
Any issues to report with 1.2?

I see... its a complicated app, not for average users.
I installed it again and with a good nights sleep was able to add a couple of numbers to the blocknumbers list. The sliding left and right menu screen was hard to find, and some of help buttons didn't help much.
Give it a try you might be younger and sharper than me. ;')

Considering that i built it... the more menu is hard to find, i agree. I will create an overlay to point people there. The help for those dialogs does say what they are thought!
Ok so I pick up my phone and I see it's blocking calls so do I have too white list the people I want to hear from???

I think you should just stick to RCB mate... there are no whitelists in this application. Look here: http://bit.ly/lDvCoi

Your app would be the best app of its kind if it had a built in private chat style sms. But since it doesnt I left to using RCB for the muted/ignore call function and Extreme Call Blocker invisible for everything else. That muted call function is what sets your app apart from the rest in my opinion....everything else you have is just regurgitation....which makes the app way more complex than it has to be.
And the daemon thing is an issue but worth it to have some radio troubles a couple times a day in exchange for the mute/ignore function you have. The only other MAJOR issue with your app is your attitude.....you support your apps but your responses are extemely disrespectful when they dont need to be. But halfdriven was also being an asshole for no reason about your app!!
We already have private SMS mate! Its just virtual - add the "Make private" action to your list, long press on the list to sweep the system logs and that's it. You can chat through your SMS app and dialer of choice and the app will move all the logs into Call Master.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
I will try it again.the l fast time I tried it the sweep action took a while and was not consistently removing private texts....but that was several revisions back....I'll give it another go....thanks.
That's not possible. It ALWAYS works. It may simply take up to 15 seconds. You don't even have to have the messenger open.
Sent from my GT-P7500 using xda premium
Should I remove root call blocker before using this?
Its not necessary. But you should at least disable it.
Updated OP - impressions please!!!
This thing is rock solid thanks very much
Thanks, but what about my questions in the OP?
By the way we released a new app today some of you might also find useful, you can find it here:

Touch Blocker Beta - a simple but useful app that makes holding and using your device easier
There are two basic functions:
- create dead zones where touches do not register
- filter the screen when reading in low light
We are already in a relatively stable Beta release - whats left now is adding new features and making it all look pretty. You can follow this process at the thread here.
Please be sure to write suggestions - we are looking forward to engaging the community and building a useful and nifty application that many will enjoy!

Be sure to let me knwo if you do, and of course if you have some suggestions!
Im confused, do we need to purchase this app in order to test it out? If you need testers why would you make them pay to test this app? I looked through the thread and didnt find anything addressing this issue.
Hi guys. Below is an intro for those that are not familiar with the app. What I really need is a few testers to check some new features that were recently introduced to help deal with issues restarting the RIL (radio layer) on a few phones.
We have recently added a new method of debugging this and really need some users to test them for us. Especially on stock and ICS builds.
If you are willing to help, just download CM from the link above (its free) and if you cannot get data to return after the initial reboot of the telephony service, click "Restart radio" in Settings.
Then wait for the restart (about 1 minute). If it doesnt work, please post here and also send some logs through the "Write to us" item in the application's Settings.
You can also visit the main thread here, but please post about this particular issue in this thread so that i can track the problems better!
Thanks very much!

Anything to report?
Did you put this in the Android App section too?
Edit: Never mind. You did.
This is for testing on this particular device. Please perform the tests described above!
Any issues with 1.2.0?
Any issues to report with 1.2?
Been testing it out for about 4 days now. For the past 2 weeks I have had a loan company calling 2-4 times a day. Haven't heard them call since I set this up. Have it set to answer and hold, and I haven't received a voicemail either. So far so good! Great work, thank you.
EDIT: Almost forgot, I have had no problems with my service/data since install. Works same as before.
Excellent. Please consider leaving a rating on the market - that can help us a lot and this app really doesnt deserve a 4 star rating. Its the best on android.
By the way guys, we have just released a new app that lets you securely switch between multiple installations of android on one device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1465661
Check it out please!
Installed the app, works well.

This is a great app I used the beta throughly, however it wasn't of much use to me. I don't really need to block anyone so there was no point for me to continue. But for those who do this app is the best.
Suggestion: I know you have a trial version, but maybe a lite version would be a hit as well. Some people don't need all the crazy features and a cheaper app with standard features might go over well. I'm not being a cheap ass but IMO it would entice more people and we wouldn't have to deal with the ad in notification bar...just a thought.

We have some experience making call blockers and i assure you a free version is sufficient. Those who have need will spend $5 - personally i feel we have done a $10 job with it, but market economics are a harsh mistress.

Hi, I have been writing pc based software in .net for a few years now and want to make the jump to android. I worked with java at uni and the syntax is almost identical to c# so language and concepts are fine.
I have had a loose idea for a game and was hoping some more experienced developers could help me iron out some points I'm struggling with. It's a resource builder game (farm ville / tiny tower / crime city type of thing) where you collect resources and use them to boost the amount you collect and progress through game. Biggest quandary I have at the moment is "should it be single player offline or server hosted multilayer?".
I like the idea of doing it online and having the usual features that allows like push notifications of game events, visiting friends, minimal footprint on device as all data is stored on server. I don't like the idea that you then require an Internet connection to play, it always frustrates me when I can't use an app because it can't get online to authenticate or access data.
Sorry for wall of text :-\ short version is: in today's market, should I be looking at making the game offline, or online with the usual social trimmings?

50 reads, not 1 suggestion? Not even a "that's a terrible idea"...
Sent from my GT-N7000 using xda app-developers app
Well, why not make it both? Make it so that you play in SP and when you decide, you can take your SP world into MP, and join the other players. How does that sound?
I like the idea and I think you should go for it. The other thing to keep in mind is that with multiplayer comes server costs for hosting files, and other networking related aspects, plus making sure things run smoothly for players and expanding your server infrastructure to match the demand people put on it.

Hey,
When I turned on my phone the RAM it was taking was 300 MB, after a days use it is now 500MB (even after pressing 'clear RAM' button).
I've entered Settings->apps->running and it shows only two small things (the keyboard and some weather widget) which combined take only 20 MB.
So what is the rest of the memory is beign allocated for?
Thank you.
Does your rom have Usage Manager in the app drawer?

Thank you, indeed I see some more RAM guzzlers, but It seems like they make up most of the addition but not all of it ... plus funny thing, when I try to close everything (in 'running' and 'cache) and I reenter- here it is there again...
1) Can I see all of the elements that take up my ram (the system as well)?
2) Can I close them properly?
Thank you very much.
PS. Is there some comfortable way to jump between apps? Like in the Iphone where by pressing the 'Home' button will show you a bar with a row of icons of the currently active processes....
For your PS question, it's a long press on the Home button (below the GS3 screen).

The closest app I'm running to that option is Android Tuner Free. I got it for its storage optimization functions.
The busy interface has a learning curve, but it is a comprehensive & poweful app. I recommend Advanced mode & the One Click home screen.
For what you want, see both the Tasks & Kill All tiles. The first is a Task Mgr., the second is a quick 1 click. The app can teach a lot about what runs & why. It also offers a lot of fine control.
I also use the root app Startup Manager which is self explanatory & efficient.

I was hoping there is a way to avoid using apps...
Ok, I suppose it opens another question which I thought about creating a new thread for, but if the opportunity already arose...
How do you actually know if you can trust an app?
I'm kinda new to android and I'm much more used to the opennes of windows, also I'm pretty paranoid (a cellphone contains information 100 times more sensitive than a PC (At least my PC is like that)). I look at the permissions every app want to have and I'm simply aghast, I know of the logic behind those requests (at least for most of those I've seen) but I have zero transparency over what actions the app takes.
That really stress me a great deal...

Digital Privacy
Well it certainly stresses the last remaining fiber of your privacy. I just watched the latest "60 Minutes Overtime" piece on data brokers framing this as a lifestyle issue. Step back from the small screen & consider that your actions on board the PC have a ripple effect on your smartphone. "NAI Opt out" & "Disconnect software" are useful PC search words.
Where it Went
I rarely hear from a tech guru or even a lawyer who can decipher a EULA, TOS or Privacy agreement they didn't author themselves; yet online, we are steeped in the cumulative concessions we have accepted from them and the affiliates and partners they enable for.
The Biggest Brother?
Google is a data harvester, not a broker. They are the custodians of much of our imprint online across all platforms. check your settings accordingly; within each Google service / app/ platform you use and adjust them to taste. Know, for example, that persistent login to Gmail will append any collocated G-Search activity to your G profile if Web Data | Web History remains on. I read recently that simply joining Plus has a similar but more comprehensive effect by default, by unifying the G tracking across your entire electronic imprint.
Android Permissions
Yes. The most invasive part of Android is its permissions free for all. They are demands, not requests that each app poses. The logic is sometimes one sided and self serving to the developers at our disadvantage. What can we do?
1. Know something about your developer. XDA membership in an app developer helps define their role in a community. Check their website, reviews, accessibility, postings etc.
2. Consider lower permission alternative apps listed in the play store.
3. For each app you review in the Play Store, (have you checked play store settings yet?) assess its longevity in the marketplace to decide if you are willing to be an early adopter.
4. Resist resorting to apps to broker built-in functions your system already has. Learn your OS.
5. Weigh the logic of each permission demanded, based on risk / reward and your intended uses. Example: On my phone Google search leads the field with 59 permissions. App Permisssions by FSecure is in the low end group with zero. How do I know? App Permissions. What can I do? More on that later.
6. Debloat. I have frozen over 60 apps/services/processes using a combination of tools ranging from built in (no root) Application Management to Startup Manager and the App Quarantine app.
7. Don't be lazy about toggling settings as needed. One stock default has the GPS always enabled which may not be necessary for you.
8. Learn about the types of location services in your OS. Check location settings in affected apps and consider toggling location services as needed. Apps will prompt if the needed service is off when you use them.
9. Review your synch settings. Mine are off on the OS. I use a 3rd party mail app and manually back up contacts using Super Backup when needed.
10. Review background data settings. they are visible in Settings / Data usage, by selecting Mobile Data, and scrolling to the list of apps to tap through each and set Restrict background data if appropriate. It saves battery by reducing tower hunting and focuses you on which apps pose the highest demands.
I promised more. Learn about App Ops if you haven't. I have the luxury of running a 4.3 version that supports it so I can use a client app to filter and toggle various permissions on a per app basis. There are other, and perhaps more thorough approaches to this but I'm staying with this one for now.

Thank you very much for the comprehensive reply!
Indeed some of the things here are common sense but some were fairly new to me, like the close contact you are suggesting with the developer.
I have to ask though, what reviews are you reffering to? the ones in the app market or the ones on here? Also, from what I have seen in the play market, all of the reviews are about functionality but no one actualy checks the veracity of the code.
Like for instance some song recognition&download software that requires internet access permission (makes sense) and SD card access permission (also makes sense), but besides doing what it does (in a splendid manner, leaving tons of happy customers) it also steals your Whatsapp chat logs (just read an article about that breach 10 mins ago)...
How can people catch on that (otherwise the app will linger for 2 years, giving you the impression you're not an early adopter)?
Hrmph, you have given some very sound advice which I obviously intend to follow through and for that I thank you. However it seems to me like the underlying foundation is still trust in the publisher (not to abuse the permissions you had to enable for functionality sake), and the trust should stem from how well the author presents itself to the community. I suppose it is the nature of the beast, it is just that if I were to sneakily attack someone I would make sure to present myself in th best way possible .
thx.
PS. my version is 4.1 but I'll see what I can do about Appops.
P.P.S I just searched for "Tasks" on google market and all I see is an organizer. Did you mean "Task Killer"?

Both sources really. There's no hard & fast divide as to what aspect reviewers might respond to at either venue. More often, Play Store reviews have alerted me when my device or my Android version gets poor results from an app. Granted code integrity issues are raised more frequently at XDA.

Interesting example. I will look for the article. I wonder if the app declared that permission in their Play Store disclosure. If not, it challenged Google's policing system. I read somewhere that SELinux in newer ROMs, set to "Enforcing" brokers applicable policies from each host domain and also restricts apps from exceeding their declared permissions. (See also my note on 4.3+ below)

You're welcome! Placing that trust is ultimately a leap of faith, so we ask ourselves:
Does my configuration already offer this function at the OS or existing app level?
Can I justify each declared permission here?
Is there a less invasive equivalent to this app?
Have I gone over the settings thoroughly once installed?
What does my installed anti-virus say about this?
Do I need this to auto launch or only on demand?
Is it using excessive data or uptime as I monitor?
Am I getting all the Android security I could be with my current rom image?
You get the picture. Common sense, best practices & due diligence can go a long way toward closing the security gap.
PS. my version is 4.1 but I'll see what I can do about Appops.
Google only exposed it (to client apps like App Ops Starter) in 4.3 & 4.4.0, before & after that I believe an Xposed Framework module is the main alternative.

The "Tasks & Kill All tiles" I referred to appear on Android Tuner Free's One Click advanced mode home screen. BTW certain apps on my phone are "frozen" when not in use.
I forgot to mention. 4.3 I'm running is on the 4.1.2 bootloader, completely avoiding lopsided knox security. I hope I didn't appear to recommend the OTA update. That's a personal choice.

You're welcome. To be fair, most times I've seen postings by people who background checked code it was in rom threads, or over root exploits or security apps. In most other cases due diligence is our best defense.
