Help! I can't receive a charge. - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there
I have a Galaxy II with Siyah 3.3.2 and CM9 RC1
Since my battery died my phone refuses to receive a charge.
When the battery and charger are connected the phone does not respond to anything and the screen stays blank.
If the battery is removed I can turn the phone on. The battery logo flashes up and shows it at 100%. It then cuts out. If I press the power button shortly after CM9 will start to load then the power cuts out and I go back to a blank screen.
If I connect the battery at any point while booting it resets
I can boot into recovery mode and have tried resetting the battery stats
The phone boots fine when a battery with power is installed.
I'm stumped how to get this working again. Can I get some help?
Thanks

Day 2 using a 3210!

Could REALLY DO with some help

Hi,
Plug in a micro USB and try to recharge the battery from USB. Have you tried that? What happened exactly? Did you flash a Rom or Kernel to cause what happened? Since you can get into recovery mode have you tried flashing a stock kernel and Rom?

[Q] Vibrant won't power on, no battery screen

So I attempted upgrading to JPM today and ended up in a situation where I needed to restore the phone using odin. I flashed everything using s1_odin_20100512.pit and the T969 PDA/Phone/CSC files as I have before (this is the 2nd time I've had to roll the phone back). Odin reported the restore/upgrade as a "pass" but my phone won't power on AT ALL.
I've tried the download & recovery mode boot sequences, removed the battery, plugged into my computer and my wall outlet, done the boot sequences with the battery removed and then plugged it back in while holding the buttons, pretty much everything I've seen to fix an issue like this. It still won't turn on. I know the battery is charged, the phone was fine before this most recent flash.
Anyone have any ideas?

My friend, you have a brick!!!!!
Same happened to me, just keep trying to get into DL mode. I got it to eventually work with the normal key combo.

xperia x10a not boot or power on, just continuously vibrating.

hi!! my xperia x10a not boot or power on after flashing. the battery charge was poor during flashing and now the phone doesn't boot up, when i push the power key the phone vibrate but no power on and then the phone vibrate continuosly.
i charged the battery and refhlasing the phone using flashtool but nothing at all.
what can i do?
need help please!!
What did you flash to it exactly? Try flashing the original firmware.
i flashed the phone because when i update from 1.6 to 2.1 the phone restarted it self everytime! i need to get an externar charger to charge the battery before reflashing to the original firmware.
Flash back a 2.1 or 2.3.3 firmware, see if it helps, if it is atleast coming on a bit, do a repair via SE. Do check the files you're using and make sure they're legit before flashing them to your phone.

I had the same problem.
Infact what I found is that charging itself need the firmware to be properly installed.
You have 2 ways to fix the problem.
First is that find a frnd who have an x10 and put ur phone battery into his and charge it for sometime.
Second is open flashtool, remove battery from ur phone, then connect the USB cable to PC and ur phone, and then press the back button and hold it and then insert the battery.
U will see the green light (means the phone is in flash mode) and also ur flashtool should be detecting the phone.
Now keep the phone like that for atleast 30 mins.
When phone is in flash mode, it actually charges the battery. (thats what I did).
After atleast 30 mins, remove the phone and check if its switching on.
All the best,
Also, while ur flashing a new ROM, always make sure that u wipe ur battery stats...
i charged the battery and flash the phone with flashtool to 2.1 and 2.3.3 but still the same problem.
by the way, the green light power on even without hold the back button, is like always be in flash mode.
+1
i got the same problem as you. When i press on/off button, it vibrates and green led flashes once, but then nothing more happends.
I tried to put in it flash mode, but it bootloops when i do that.
this is exact my phone problem, but i can't find any solution!
do you have any sugestion?

[Q] Phone not switching on after charge!!

Hi
I just flashed UI-One MIUI 4.0 PORT [BETA 1] by TEAM MAC (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1517939) and the new baseband yesterday night and the phone was working fine. But when i went to sleep the phone had about 25% charge so in the morning it was switched off. Here's what i've done
-I have charged my phone for an hour now via usb/ac adapter and tried removing the battery , sdcard and putting it back in ( some post said to try it) but still the phone doesnt switch on.
- All it shows is the battery indicator when switched off (the really big one being charged) and about 50% is done.
-That screen comes on even if i press and hold power button
-Not able to go into recovery
Anyone any ideas????

well battery drain has been the biggest issue in miui rom as it doesnt get into sleep mode so the soultion just put ur phone in charging for some time on plug socket not via pc .
now use adb to boot into recovery using command or just press the 3 button combo home+vol down+ power and check if it loads into recovery if not than adb is best method to boot into recovery ,
your bootloader is corrupted.. if you can somehow made it to emergyency mode then the situation is undercontrol.. if u can't then take your fone to cc

Thanks for the replies guys. You were right. I manual forced emergency mode . Now repairing.

[Q] GSII won't turn on

Hi. for the longest time i've been running Cyanogen 10.1 on my device. Recently I've updated to 10.2. IN the instructions, it just said flash the new zip and the gapps then reboot. I did just that and my phone initially loaded well. it was able to update and such. However, I noticed that after booting, it would hang at the lockscreen for 2-3 seconds then reboot. To end the loop, i tried pulling out the battery. I then tried turning it on but it would only stop at the sII splash screen. I then pulled out the battery again. When plugged in, it would go to the battery charging screen but would hang after awhile so i pulled the batt once again. Now, even plugged, the battery screen won't load anymore. the screen would just open w/ a battery and hang there, then the screen would close and repeat. I tried entering download mode by the button-combo or the USB jig but still none. can anyone help me?
No download mode = not good. Try searching through king_rat (xda user) posts for his method to jump start into download mode.
You can also try:
1. Pull the battery, leave it out for a minute.
2. Replace the battery, but don't turn it on.
3. Hold the button combo for DL mode.
4. Get a friend to plug in the phone charger.
On a working phone, the above procedure would boot into DL mode.

flashing a zip wont make ur phone dead... u should try another battery and make sure the combo u are trying to enter download mode is correct
usb jig i guess doesnt works wid jb or later (due to bootloader updates bt i may b wrong so plz pardon)

Infinite battery loop

The phone seems to be stuck in an infinite battery loop.
1) With the battery in, not using the charger.
It first boots into a grey battery for a couple of seconds and then it gets to a green charging battery. I can hear a short vibration, and it boots again into the grey battery and then into the green one. The phone is stuck into that loop until the battery drains.
2) With the battery in and the USB cable plugged in.
The phone boots into the grey battery and then into the green one. It stays there forever. No vibration sound and no rebooting. It keeps charging until hitting the 100% message.
Now, a few days ago I was able to hold the power button down and the phone would reboot normally. I could use the phone for a few hours until, all of a sudden, it would turn off and boot again into the battery loop. Holding the power button and rebooting normally would ONLY work with the USB cable in. If I unplugged the USB cable, the phone would be stuck in the battery loop.
A couple of days ago, I noticed that when I managed to reboot normally and pressed the power button, the phone would ask me if I wanted to restart, and a couple of seconds after that it would reboot into the battery loop.
Now holding the power button down with the USB cable in won't do the trick anymore. It is as if the power button is disabled or something.
Is there a fix for this? If I hold the volume button down I can get to the download mode (Odin Mode). THe info I get is as follows:
Product name: SGH-i777
Custom Binary Download: Yes (1 counts)
Current Binary: Samsung Official
The only way to get out of the download mode is by removing the battery.
Any ideas as to what's going on here?
thanks!
Looks like the culprit is the power button.
I flashed the newest Samsung firmware using Odin in download mode, and I could reboot normally after flashing. I'm using Auto Screen On/Off to wake up the phone, and it does a good job. The Power Off Button apps didn't seem to work, though.
Thing is, if I power off the phone or restart it, it goes into the battery loop again, and the only way to reboot normally that I know is by flashing the stock firmware again.
Is there any easier, faster way to reboot normally with a broken power button?
thanks!

You could try this (it's another power button app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.painless.pc). I've used it in the past with great success.
If it doesn't work for you you're currently not rooted - I know your stats show you've downloaded a custom binary, so you shouldn't have any problems.
Post back if you do, and also give us more information regarding which rom you're on.
Thanks, that app is really useful.
I used a custom rom a while ago but then I switched back to stock. I'm using the latest one from Kies (4.1.2, I think to recall). I use Framaroot to root the phone so I can use some apps I like.
Phone still reboots randomly. Maybe I need to clean the cache. Is there an app for doing that while running Android?
Alternatively, is there a kernel/rom that allows me to reboot normally, bypassing the battery loop? The Odin download mode takes too long because I have to flash the stock firmware, and the stock Recovery mode is useless to me because my power button is broken.
IS it possible to access Recovery mode with a broken power button?
thanks!
Sure, but the app I linked allows you to boot to recovery also.
A good custom kernel for a rooted 4.1.2 would be AJK 4.9, the No Swap version I believe. You'd be better off reading the op in the AJK thread.
Thanks, I'll take a good look at the AJK thread. Is it any better than the Siyah kernel?
Problem is, if the phone reboots randomly, then I'm stuck in the battery loop again and I need to flash the stock firmware yet again to be able to reboot normally and bypass the battery loop. I would need some sort of custom boot which I could access pressing the volume button, and which would allow me to reboot bypassing the battery loop.

Just flashed AJK 4.9 and no more random rebootings as of now... Plus, if I reboot manually, it does not get into the dreaded battery loop. So far so good. Thanks a lot for the tip.

AJK's Kernel is based off Siyah.
