Hi guys, I was trying to flash new ROM via CWM. However, cwm wasn't able to read the zip file saying something about script is not supported blah blah blah... Browsing thru xda forum, I found out that this problem has caused due to the cwm version(recently updated to cwm3.0.0.8) , or at least I want to believe it this way. So lastnight I ended up finding a thread started by jt1134 which I basically helped out lots of ppl who were struggling with similar problem as mine. But the thing is when I was trying to download the files, cwm-recovery-ALL.zip and cwm-recovery-ALL odin. The download links were broken giving me an error message. So guys, if anyone has the files I beg of you to share it pleaseeeeeeeee.
to shorten it down, the link is broken, I think. So if anyone has the files I beg of you to share it thank you..............
Hello jjalhjy
I will make this easy for the both of us!
Direct your browser to this link:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=999802
Once there scroll down to the 5th post (#5) where I linked both the page you referenced (broken links) and a link to a working download of the ".tar" file (was earlier! ).
If you need the .zip file scroll down to post 9 (#9) where I have linked it.
A quick guide to getting you flashed.
*note* I am assuming you cannot use .zip files due to the incompatible script error! This is for using odin.
1. Put phone in download mode via the power menu if on superclean. If not turn off the power, pull battery, plug into computer, hold "down" on the volume rocker till the yellow triangle "download" screen appears
2. download the ".tar" version of cwr all
3. Launch odin
4. Click the PDA button and search for the ".tar" file and select it -> then hit "ok"
5. Run the file in odin, wait for the phone to reboot.
6. put your battery back in and test recovery mode to see how it looks!
*whew*
good luck!
Wow that was a fast reply! Thank you! A quick question tho, 1. Do you know if I have to uninstall ROMmanager and delete update.zip file in my sd card before I even start flashing via using odin. 2. After following your instruction step by step, and let's say if it works. Do I still need to download ROMmanager? 3. I remember reading someone's thread in xda saying it is always necessary to flash new cwm after flashing a ROM (I always have it done using ROMmanager but now things have changed, obvisouly. So yea, how would I flash new CWM after flashing a ROM from now?
Sorry if these questions sound so newbyyyy hehe and thanks again!

It is advised (so I have read) that you should not use ROM manager with the Fascinate. While it is a powerful tool, it is just not 100% Fascinate friendly yet. Also I have never had to remove/mess with the update.zip on my SD card. Heck as far as I know you can delete it after using ODIN with the new cwr-all.

No. I would use the Development Thread here in the fascinate section for your ROMS. ROM manager is just not made for us.....yet!

I personally have never done this. To the best of my knowledge (and real life experience) cwr-all (red version) is the current and most up-to-date version (for the Fascinate). Once I ODIN-ed over the cwr-all I have not updated it once. You should be fine to flash it and flash ROMs as you please!
Dude, thanks A LOTTTTTT
Back up everything, I'm not responsible for anything you do to your phone. These steps have helped everyone who has come to IRC. Just made a one stop guide.
You shouldn't need to post anything in this thread other than to mention if there is a broken link. If you want to thank me, thank the developers instead. They did all the real work. If you really feel like thanking me after that, you can thank me on IRC instead of making a post. I don't like runaway threads and clutter.
You will need these following files:
On computer:
Odin: http://goo.gl/JT9uU
Stock ED05: http://goo.gl/RC28q
Atlas_v2.2 PIT: http://goo.gl/Hktky
CWM4: http://goo.gl/7DmxF

B)Install the Nexus S drivers. You will have to download the Android SDK in order to do so.
STEP 2
A)Start Odin.
B)Make sure Repartition is checked on the left.
C)Make sure atlas_v2.2.pit is in the PIT section
D)Make sure CI500_VZW_ED05_FROYO_REL.tar.md5 is in the PDA section with it checked off
STEP 3
Double check Step 2 and connect your phone into download mode and press start. (Download mode = take out battery, connect phone to computer using USB, hold down volume button and a yellow triangle symbol will pop up)
STEP 4
After it passes in Odin, boot up to stock.
STEP 5
A)Turn off phone and go back into download mode.
B)In Odin press reset and DESELECT repartition on the left.
C)Make sure cwm4_fixed_for_cm7-ODIN is in the PDA section
D)Press Start
STEP 6
Three finger (Volume up + Volume down + Power button) into recovery. If you let it boot up normally it will overwrite CWM and you will have to repeat STEP 5.

STEP 15
Reboot
STEP 16
Profit
If you want to put on CM7 or MIUI, then substitute that ROM for vgb. MIUI doesn't need GAPPS.
If you want to flash a custom kernel such as Glitch and use Adrenaline Shot, reboot into recovery using the reboot menu. Wipe dalvik, flash kernel first, make sure it's for MTD ROMs and not EH09. Let it boot up all the way before rebooting back into recovery using the reboot menu. Then flash Adrenaline shot.
Glitch's kernel : http://goo.gl/DnGkT
dsexton702's Adrenaline Shot: http://goo.gl/NKJ4P
MAKE SURE YOU USE A UNIVERSAL ANDROID VERSION OF THE TWEAK
Thanks to Jt1134 for sharing his personal ROM and his continued efforts. Also the other devs, Team Hacksung, TeamSbrissenMod, people on IRC, and other people who have contributed and made our phone so damn sexy.
Honestly best written tutorial I have ever witnessed. Definitely helped me with this and on IRC. THANKS A LOT BRWNSUPERMAN!
So I did this with MIUI so do I have to install the latest kernel or can I still use glitch?
Even if you are on CM7 already and still have to do all of that..wow

This basically makes sure you won't have any problems. You can skip steps, but you better be damn sure of what you're doing.
Does flashing the GB bootloader remove the risk of frying the SD-card, or is there still a risk?
Other than that, thanks for the awesome guide!

It's helped most people. A battery pull also has been found to work.
Thanks for the guide! I got onto vGB without too much of a problem using this. I substituted v6 since it was out.

Really all you need is to flash a froyo package(the pit file is good if you are coming from one back to FRoyo but its really not needed) I just, 30 minutes ago, went from Miui by Froyo by just using the EB01 Froyo package (No Pit) and it worked fine.
To get back to MIUI I just odined the CWM tar booted up,went back to Recovery and flashed MIUI.
When you flash it the first time it does a quick flash then reboots and then goes into the "checking bml/mtd.' It can take awhile and looks like its doing nothing so make sure you give it some time. good luck
Oh and the OP instructions are great and very complete but like he said you can cut out parts of it so I don't want to sound like I'm knocking them, but sometime short and simple works better.
Have you tried the GB Odin package and flashing from there? I just noticed I had it on my PC and was wondering if it would work...seems like it should and may help get you past what ever it is that's stopping you.
I got it FINALLY. Now on MIUI, I installed a new SD card and got it to work. MY main problem was the fact with my previous Sd card, I didn't wipe it or in particular, I suspect the old update.zip was the problem.
I followed this to a "T" as well to go to MIUI from bare-bones stock ED05 package....and it still doesn't see my brand new SD card!!! It sees an old 2GB FAT sd card just fine in MIUI, but no go for my 16GB FAT32 card. Its so weird, b/c the stock ED05 (tw based) OS sees my 16GB all day...even CWR 4.x.x.x saw it until after you flash the MIUI rom.
Please advise. Thanks!!!

Have you guys formatted the cards with sd formatter or tried a battery pull?
I have very limited experience w/ MIUI. You'd get better help from that thread.
Great guide btw but im having a little bit of trouble and cant figure out what to do.
After putting the cwm4 file in the pda slot after hitting reset. I then press start but it is failing with an error: cant open the specified line 1455
any ideas?
Edit: I got it figured out. Seriously amazing guide. The only thing i might say that i had a problem with, is the first time you say to click reset in odin, it still leaves the re-partition box checked. And my Cwm4 wouldnt install with it checked. I did some googling and a couple people has success just by unchecking it and so did I. After that whenever you said reset odin, i just closed the app and repopened it so it was a fresh open with nothing checked.
Also towards the bottom my connection icon was white even through toggling airplane i had to open the market first, once again could be just me.\
Other than that.... everything was spot on, great job!

Thanks, updated it. I was meaning to do it earlier, usually Odin just skips the repartition if there is no pit file in place. Didn't know it caused problems, but it got me off my lazy ass.
Wow!
Only did step 2, the phone close and there is no power at all now!
Totally bricked!
Ooops! I did the jig trick and it come back! I was a little bit afraid!
The only problem I have is the home button and reverse button are switched.
And the volume down is not working too, I'm sure it is because I have a fascinate, any patch for this?
Thanks
And I lost the unlock function on my phone, are you able to tell me how to unlock it again?
I may be wrong, but I think V7 for JT's Vanilla GB is up on Rootzwiki dated 8/29?
I have been trying since yesterday evening to install the CM9 nightly build. I've read through every single post in the thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1778170 ) and I still can't seem to do it. I've flashed a few ROMs in the past with no issues, but for some reason this one is not making any sense. Maybe it's a good thing because I've learned so much and had my heart drop a few times thinking my phone is ruined. My issue seems to be with my version of CWM I guess? The first step of the instructions says to: 1. Install ClockworkMod Recovery for "quincyatt".
I don't understand this. I click on the link in the thread and the CWM file is a .img file, so I don't understand how to flash it to my phone. I've downloaded ROM manager (and paid for the premium version) and flashed the newest version through there. When I do that, it completely messes up CWM and keeps giving me errors anytime I try to install any ROM. It freezes on most things I do, keeps giving cache errors, etc. It seems like there's an issue with flashing the newest version through ROM manager. So how do I get CM9 on my phone? Do I need to update CWM someway? I currently have the version in the CWM thread ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1584576 ) with the latest release 04-14. If someone can please give me an explanation for what I'm missing here, that would help greatly. I've been on this forum for a few years and always read and search. I actually just made my first post yesterday to help someone when I was encountering the same issue with CWM that they were and finally figured it out after hours of reading.
THANK YOU!

Try using TWRP recovery. I believe it flashes successfully.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1647575
It is a zip not a. Img i just clicked it myself. Dont use the stock browser. Download dolphon browser hd. And click the link. The zip file you download is there. Flash it in cwm recovery. Easy easy stuff.
Download rom manager from the market. From within the app you can install CWM. This is what the post means.
Oops, sorry didn't read your whole post at first.
I had the same problem. What I did to fix it was purchase the touch recovery upgrade from within rom manager and that fixed my problems. If you have $2 to spare give it a shot. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I finally got it to work with TWRP. Now of course when it loads up everywhere I click I get an error saying 'Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped. Here we go again.
Do what i said in my post above. Make sure to wipe data cache and dalvik cache in CWM recovery. Or dont listen and continue to enjoy the issues. Also dont use rom manager. Its more problems then its worth. Good luck
Thank you, I appreciate your help. Well I figured out how to get that error to stop. Now just need to figure out how to get all my contacts on here that were only saved on my SIM and I'll be good to go. This was a really good learning experience. I'm really liking TWRP
Do yourself a favor and put all contacts on your Gmail account. You can enter them on a PC quickly. Just be sure to always select your Gmail account to sync.
Another option is to use Titanium Back Up and restore the contacts once moving to a new ROM.

Thanks, I synced them all to Gmail. Much faster now! Finally got it all up and running. Just a question about using the 'touch key notification lights' Does this kill the battery? It seems like it stays on until you read your text, so if you get one while asleep those lights just stay on?

Yes I have searched, yes I have tried google and yes I am still stuck...
I *think* I have tried just about everything and I have read through about 10 "soft brick" or "stuck on samsung screen after rooting on stock ICS" (and most combinations of) but nothing is working. I'm sure it's probably an easy fix but I just can't seem to get anywhere. Here's what happened.....
I googled rooting galaxy not after ICS update and found this http://rootgalaxynote.com/galaxy-no...y-note-sgh-i717-icsgingerbreadeasiest-method/
It was all I could find about rooting after the ICS OTA update, so I did it. Everything seemed fine. I had CW but no superuser so I DL it from the market as well as my old Titanium pro from back when I rooted my HTC. I rebooted my phone to get it all settled in and decided to run Titanium and get this party started. I got an error message that busybox was not installed so.... I installed it but when I clicked the app on my phone it said it would not install because I didn't have root access.... This is where the confusion starts to set in.
So I restarted to see if I could get into CW but when I rebooted the soft brick started.... I was stuck at the "samsung" screen.
I IMMEDIATELY ran to XDA and began my search. I can still get to DL mode, Odin and CW so I know there is hope. I tried the files listed in the "All in one guide for noobs" and the "Galaxy Note Super Everything Thread (I717)".
There was a suggestion to use Kies but when I put in my serial # and model name i get the "galaxy note does not support initializing" message.
I'm not new to flashing/rooting, although things are a bit different, I have a basic understanding of the process but I ain't no Einstein either...
I also tried to flash the stock Telus ICS rom but I got an error message and my lil droid guy went belly up....
Any help would be greatly appreciated! I love my note and this is killing me...
I have to go to work so if I don't reply immediately its because I have no email access at work.... Especially without my Note....
The steps are correct in the link you gave.
Did Odin3 say success?
Did you get CWM installed?
Did you flash superuser?
Is there a superuser icon in your apps?
Ranger is on it....
I'm thinking we dont have CWM on the device....????
And no SU flash, from within the recovery that doesnt exist....g
He has cwm, he did not flash superuser, Looks like he assumed flashing cwm would automatically root him.
Since you can get into recovery... i would just go ahead and download a Rom zip, transfer to phone by mounting in cwm (mounts and storage if you didn't know) and flash that sumbitch
Oh yep...found that.......Thanks brother....g
That means do or redo steps 13 to 16 in the guide you posted.
agreed....g
im back...
Just got in, thanks for the replies.
Yes I have CWM and can access it. I have tried to flash the CM roms as well as the stock telus ICS rom but was denied at install. I got a "assert failed getprop (ro.build.device)" message and 2 other "ro." error messages when I install the cm nightly quincyatt rom.

I appreciate the help by the way, I know how frustrating it can be to try and help with tech situations from emails and messages (Hi Mom ).
Thanks has been pushed....
That assert error is in the script used by CWM to flash and it is saying 'wrong rom for your device'. So for sure you have the correct CWM and rom for your phone? Just checking because errors at this point make your phone useless.

Holy McCrappy dance!
Okay... so I flashed the stock ATT with odin. just at start screen now.... Don't think it is rooted so now.... How do I get back to telus and root right the first time?
Edit: so it appears the ATT rom was a GB ver so I am assuming that I was somehow reverted to GB instead of my stock ICS. Now to try and flash a stock Telus GB rom, update then try to root.... AGAIN! Thank gawd I don't have a $600 paperweight now!

Ok, take it easy for a few days. Just read up and, now that you've survived the worst scenerio, you might want to try a more custom rom or other modifications. Pretty soon you will be pulling someone else's a$$ out of the fire. Good luck.
I think I'm okay now. Was a skeerty one though. Lol
Yesterday I updated my S2 i777 to KitKat with OmniRom, but I did something really dumb. Omni rom does not come with root so i tried to install root and used a kernel from jellybean. While I was mucking around with CWM i also turned on signature verification. The result was my phone was bricked, which i fixed, but now i am stuck on ginger bread (rooted) and when I try to launch CWM it says it failed to verify the whole-file signature and stays in stock recovery mode. When I try to install CWM or any other package in stock recovery I also get the signature error. Because it is in stock recovery and not CWM I am not able to change the setting either. Does anyone know how I fix this or get around it? Maybe by somehow manually changing the setting in a file?
Thanks.
Stock recovery will not install any unsigned firmware. You will need to follow one of many guides available here, that will walk you through the process of going from stock to custom firmware.
Your shortest path to omni is using the "mobile Odin method" listed in the notes of the omni OP. But I seriously suggest familiarizing yourself with the process -othermark has an up to date guide in the "General" section.

The problem with mobile odin is that it costs money, which i would rather not pay. On top of that, I am using the same steps on the same firmware that i used to have to upgrade my phone. I am allready rooted too, and have clockwork mod, but when I try and boot into clockwork it also gives me that error and goes to stock recovery. For somereason launching clockwork mod is installing a package on stock recovery. I am launching clockwork mod from rom manager btw.

There is a free version that gets the job done just as well as the paid version. That free version is available here on XDA.

You haven't described those steps, so I cannot say whether they are useful or not. I suggest trying a different method, as the one you are following doesn't seem to be achieving the desired result.

ROM MANAGER is known to cause issues with these phones. You should avoid using it from here on.
Whenever you are ready, the advice in my first response will get you where you want to be (free of charge)
Happy flashing

@ConnorBP,
I don't think cyril279's warning about Rom Manager is strong enough. Rom Manager is not only known to cause problems, it has in some cases caused damage to the low level firmware which is very difficult to recover from. There is a sticky right at the top of this forum.

I saw that sticky, but it has worked for me so far, and I only use it to boot into clockwork mod and sometimes install clockwork. I can't seem to get into clockwork by doing the key combinations so i use that.

I got the free mobile odin, but it does not let me do anything except flash the kernel. What I need to do is update to a new version :/ (I can allready flash kernels with heimdall or odin)
Once you decide to follow the instructions provided, you'll be a happy camper. If you do it your own way, or take short cuts, then this session may continue for much longer than it needs to.
MobileOdin Install:
(procedure verified working from stock rooted AT&T firmware by @cyril279):
With your phone on fully booted into (whatever ROM)
1) Gather all necessary flash files onto internal sdcard before performing these steps.
---a) Boot.IMG (extracted from omni-4.4.x-latesti777-nightly.zip)
---b) MrCook's ROM wipe.zip
---c) Omni-nightly.zip
---d) PA GApps (optional)
---e) SuperSU (optional)
2)Mobile-odin flash Omni's boot.img
>>the phone will try to reboot, but will likely fail. Three-finger salute (with the USB cable UNPLUGGED), until you are in TWRP recovery<<
3) [install] > [COOK'S ROM WIPE.zip] > [add more zips] > [omni-4.4.x-latesti777-nightly.zip] > [add more zips as desired] >>swipe to confirm flash>> [reboot system]

I ended up finding a kernel with CWM installed and using odin to flash it, and I used it to flash a new version of clockwork mod and then install the latest omni rom. So all is resolved. Thanks for your help! :good::laugh:
