I just installed T Donut HD 2.2.6 on my Xperia X10 Everything is working fine, I have just one problem with my GPS accurancy, the pointer is about 500 meters away from my real location or more and sometimes show me like if i were moving when i'm not. :silly:
what should I do? is there any fix? The problem occurs in google maps, and compass apps.
thnks
Just to be sure - you dont use it at home? If not try different app which using GPS or reflash ROM if you just installed it with all wipe.

You won't get signal if You're in a building. Instead of gps location the phone uses network location (wifi or data) which isn't so accurate

I was using the GPS outside.
if network location is enabled the pointer accurancy is higher, only with wifi. I tried with different apps, and the same, sometimes the pointer is 2 km away fro my real location, and it moves even if I'm not,

So this is the first GPS device I'm using so bear with me.
Google Maps seems to get my location even without GPS. Cell network triangulation I guess. It says accuracy upto 100m.
Then if I switch GPS on, then I see the blinking GPS icon at the top. Does this mean GPS is locked? Or does it mean it's in the process of locking? It never seems to stop blinking. Anyway, I get around 'accuracy upto 70m' with GPS, and it never seems to update it's position if I'm say, going in my car.
Maybe I'm using it wrong, I dunno. Any help will be appreciated.
A blinking GPS icon signifies that GPS is not locked on. Try turning on GPS and then going outside. GPS lock insides can be a problem.

Sent from my LG-P500 using XDA App
Try using navigation and driving around for a bit

I also had problems with the GPS and i discovered that when I could not do a "lock" the phone has to be restarted.
After that i was able to do a "lock " quickly.

So i have buy a new Xperia mini (sk17a) and install first ndrive to see how the GPS works... but it never catch a GPS signal (i have already a X10 mini and it was very fast), i already download a apps in the market for the GPS and it only shows 1 satellite as visible for the GPS and most of the time dont found anything... anyone with this problem?

Yes, already enabled, other way ndrive or other apps say "enable GPS"
Me too on a sk17i (as signed) it could take up to five minutes to catch the signal but sometimes in the open, it's immediate. I think it's the GPS sensor which is not the best...

use fasterfix , if ur phone's rooted.
No rooted phone :-/ and no nearby plans to do it, another solution?
I have already tested the GPS with the ndrive and it works, but works really slow and with very bad accuracy :-S hope a software update fix this

dude plz where can i find fasterfix, have no access to the market through the phone, thanks in advance

in fact this saturday started to install GPS apps from the market, and GPS status was one of them, after that it works better... but still slow and with poor accuracy, miss the GPS of my x10 mini, was very fast and with good accuracy
Hello.
GPS problems on my sk17a too.
I use google navigation daily. I've had several Android devices, with varying degrees of success with GPS. Using navigation on the mini pro, I found at times the GPS sluggish to update my position and speed, hence my further investigations.
Using GPS test from market, I've observed the following:
Overall GPS signal strength is up to 10 DB below average signal strength on several simultaneous Android test devices, including nexus s, all set in airplane mode. GSM and wifi off, to prevent interference.
Then if you extend the physical keyboard on the mini, signals drop even more, dropping some sats along the way.
Poor GPS operation in my opinion as a subject matter expert in mobile communications and GPS.

Having issues getting smart actions to come on with location settings. I am trying with leaving gps on as well. Any tips? For example I wanted to turn wifi on at home but I can't seem to get it to recognize "home" location.
I found that you must leave wifi and gps on for location based rules to work correctly.

Thanks. I will give it a try. Seems the GPS isn't very accurate as well, however I am in a heavily wooded area and low signal.
If you intend to save some juice by disabling WiFi, don't use a location-based SmartAction to do this. It will eat as much battery as leaving WiFi on, a Motorola location services will keep your WiFi on regardless of your system settings.

Try Llama app. It uses mobile phone towers to ascertain location so no extra battery drain. And it has many more options than smart actions.

hi guys i have been testing my galaxy s3's GPS. i am using osmand app as my GPS app. sadly the app could not find any satellites and pin point my current location. even if i leave my S3's GPS active for a more than 5 minutes it could not get any satellites even if i am standing on a open area.
what should i do? how can i reset my GPS?
thanks in advance
Turn mobile data/wifi on and then try to use GPS. If GPS receiver doesn't have fresh AGPS data, cold start will take from 10 minutes to infinity.

Agree with you. Turn mobile data on. GPS or Glonass receiver use mobile network to fix the signal. When your position is done, you can turn off mobile data.
oh do you really need the mobile data active? was it possible to get your exact location without the use of wifi or mobile data? just your GPS? because osmand can download the maps offline then just use the GPs data to pin point your location. have you guys tried using the osmand app?
thanks
GPS receiver needs to download some (4-5 kilobytes) of data from server. This is called A-GPS, Assisted GPS. Without it, GPS still will lock onto satellites, but it will be 20-30 minutes instead of 2-3 seconds.

U only need data/wifi for first location fix and to dl. extra GPS data.when your location is found,u can turn of data/wifi and never use it again if u got downloaded maps.
Its just to get faster location fix on first GPS fix
I just tested my s3's GPS today in open air and got a lock within two seconds. phone locked 15 satellites. My phone is running completely stock rom and kernel.
So as others suggested, you should turn wifi or mobile data on so that A-GPS could work.
If you are worried about your app downloading more data and cost you money eventually then you may try app named "GPS Test". Its a very simple app and gives you some key info like satellites in view and locked to plus accuracy etc. It doesn't download any maps etc. Once you get locked, you can close the app and open your desired maps app.

hey thanks, because last night i was testing my s3's GPS if i have wifi connection my S3 can fix my current location around 2~3 seconds. i also saw my cousin's s3 and he also gets a fix location within 2~3 seconds. but i am not sure if his mobile data is active. that i would like to ask him again.
hehe thanks guys
Hi there,
I also have an issue with my GPS. Navigation is stuck at Searching for GPS.
Also when I run GPS test, it does not see any Satellites. I have my mobile data and WIFI on, and also tried to update the agps data with fastergps.
I have found different threads suggesting to uninstall maps but that did not help either.
Any ideas? (the issue existed on 4.0.4 stock, and also on latest aokp 4.1.1 build 3)
Thanks.
Also the GPS icon flashes briefly (like twice) and then disappears. Watching the notifications the same thing happens - Searching for GPS- appears briefly and then dissappears.
Is this the normal behaviour?

That usually means the phone has stopped searching for satellites for any reason, these usually are app-related.
Please download GPS TEST from Play store and report if it can find and lock on any satellites. If not or if it keeps loosing the connections, then something is wrong.
Make sure you don't let the screen turn off during the fix since that will disable the GPS.

I have tried GPS Test and it sees 0 satellites. I have also tried a couple of other apps with no success.
Even with GPS test running, display on, I still observe the same flashing of the icon and notification popping up, then disappearing after 2 seconds and reappearing again...
Have same problem. I tried GPS test. It take about 5-10s to lock the GPS. However, it will dropped after sometimes.
If some of you guys are not running stock ROM, then there might be kernel related.
I tried Temasek's newest kernel yesterday on my AOSP MIUI ROM, but couldn’t get a gsp fix.
Went back to siyah kernel and got fix within seconds.
Also try setting your regional pool with fasterfix

Aluminum Case
I thought my GPS was busted as it showed which satelites were available (agps had downloaded) but it woudn't lock.
I then took my aluminum case off the phone and discovered that this was interfering with the GPS lock.
So take your case off before assuming that the GPS is buggered. *sigh*
"My gps wasn't working on my phone. I took it to the Verizon store after I had flashed back to stock, they messed with it for a little while and then ordered me a refurbished one. I received it the next day and when I powered it on guess what the gps didn't work. So I called tech support and to my surprise the person that answered the phone actually knew what she was talking about.
She told me the gps issue is a Samsung issue, (even though is only effects Verizon and sprint phones) they are working on an update to fix it. But in the mean time she told me how to do a work around to get it working. Here is what she had me do."
Go to Settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to Google services framework
clear data
go to settings
Application manager
click all at top
go to maps
clear data
uninstall updates
Go to location services
turn off VZW Location service(leave it off to)
Power cycle phone
update maps from android market
now the gps should be working.
Hi,
I am on Stock JB kernel with Hunami Moonwalker 5.5...Xperia P
My GPS always shows searching for GPS .... is that expected? Basic question is data connection needed for GPS to work?
Even I turn on Wifi it shows the same message... Searching for GPS...

No it's not like that, when you switch on GPS, the GPS only receives the signal from at least 3 satellites, in case of A-GPS at least 2, the fourth position lock should be achieved from the earth's sphere. It just gives the fix, not the details. If you want to locate yourself using your mobile you must need 'data connection' to download such details, after that only the mobile can fix your position based on the data it got from net and the gps time signals received from the sats. In case of pre-loaded maps it is possible to show your location without data, even though you need a current positions of satellites to calculate your position...
To be short, you need to enable your data connection for your first fix, theoretically after that you can switch off your mobile data until few days(may be from 2 days to a week)
And try it from a roof top, not covered by many tall buildings. GPS may not work in many areas, sometimes even in cities(some places).
Enable wifi, Google has a spatial database for almost all wifi routers in the world, this will makes the possibility of positioning twice.
If you don't get a GPS fix, even after these testings, then you can conclude the problem in your mobile. After that we can dig whether it is a s/w bug or h/w bug...

It means you may have problem with your ROM or Kernel installation. No body in MoonWalker ROM posted this bug.
Try reflashing the ROM after flashing stock FW 6.2.A.1.100.
If you are in unlocked boot loader, try some other kernels.
I'm having the same problem with Xperia P CM11 nightly 11 by percy_g2. At the forum it says that GPS works A-GPS does not but my GPS does not work and always searches for location. Please tell a fix!
Thank You!
